[Q] Wi-fi Problem - ANNOYING! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, hope I'm not repeating a past thread.. But I updated my Galaxy S to 2.2 and now my wifi doesnt work. It worked perfectly up until a couple of days ago, after I factory reset the phone (2/3 weeks after updating), I have checked several times and my password is correct. I searched this issue up, and it appears I'm not the only one who has this annoying problem.
If any one could help me out, I would greatly appreciate it! Would love a nice easy fix, bit of a noob
Ken

thanks!

Be brave and try another rom like darkys 8.1 if you dont like it you can always flash it back to stock with odin as long is your phone can get into download mode by press vol down+homekey+power button at same time if not theres a fix for that done it for my mate phone works like a treat, hes now rom happy lol

try http://192.168.100.1/ to get in then just clear logs

use to hack modems with Haxorware had 4 at 20meg going love virgin lol

Apparently Android is not behaving correctly with respect to DHCP lease times. Sometimes my Galaxy is unable to connect (it tries to connect, but immediately gets disconnected). I either solve it by turning WIFI off/on or of that doesn't help: a reboot of the phone. After a reboot I can always connect to my wireless network.
These DHCP issues can be worked around if you use static ip-configuration.

[Q] Need Help with WiFi

I am running aospmod 9.7.
deca's latest kernel ( CFS )
Setcpu set at 710 max-245min
i can connect to almost any router except for one
I am sitting a few feet from a buffalo nfinity highpower router and I can't even see it with my hero.
The bad part is that the two Iphones that co-workers have can connect without a problem

I am using aosp's stock kernel and I have that exact same router with no issues. I am using WEP encryption. I have no suggestions, but thought if you know what is working it might help.
i got it fixed. that router for some reason doesn't show up if it is configured as an access point.

I can't see the router anymore.
if i restart it i can see it for a few min and connect to it but then it fails.
I tried to wipe and re install 9.7 but that didn't help either.
I am taking a lot of abuse from these Iphone guys.....

I have two Buffalos, both set up as access points, and I can connect to both with my Hero.
Firmware issue with the Buffalo?
Unfortunately This is a work router so the IT guy is not giving me access to the router settings. I am going to try a different ROM and see if it is truly the router or the phone.
The IT guy has an Iphone so he is really laughing at me now.
Try changing the wifi setting channel in CM6 go to wifi settings and hit the home button then hit advance and choose try a different channel its 11 by default hope it helps
Root-Hack-Mod-Always™
i did and nothing.
i was wondering if there was something i could change in the build.prop or some other file.
I would try a different rom also I remember being @ a hotel in Houston and I could connect to the network but no access until I realized I had to go open up my browser and accept the terms and what not of there network don't know if this will help but thought I'd post it in case it might also try a diffent kernel good luck

[Q] Wifi - problems..

Hi,
let me thank you for all the help you may give me.
The problem is i get stuck on obtaining ip address or the cell doesn't even try to connect automatically so i have to manually start the wifi connection to the network after turning on wifi.
The problem of my SGS not connecting automatically is rare, the first is not, it's actually quite often.
I looked through all the guides and sugestions but i couldn't find any permanent solution for this problem.
Note: I've used the AllShare app but sometimes even that doesn't work.
Thank you for all help
The same problem kept happening with me. Some of the fixes which I tried were
Change channel on router - didnt work for me
Use the allshare app first - worked
Set up a static ip in advanced settings - almost always worked
But I have found that I didnt have this problem with other routers, only mine, maybe because of a power problem with the router.
Many of baffling errors are usually caused by bad input power to devices.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the reply, the problem is that i use it alot on my university, where i can't do any changes to their router (or use static IP).
Also the AllShare app is indeed a fix, but only if used every time i think. I'll do some more testing, this problem is really annoying and that's a shame because it complicates the use of most of the smartphone capabilities.
So if anyone else as another solution i would be glad to hear it.
Also i'm on stock rom installed by my operator Vodafone (had the same problem on JPY).
Edit: After a very quick test, it seems that using Allshare once does work, but i had the impression that sometimes it would be needed more than once (even without rebooting). TY for the tip.
Update:
After some more tests i came to the conclusion that at home i need to use AllShare every time i want to connect to my network.
This seems to be a problem affecting several users of SGS, does anyone know the answer to this problem? Or at least an app that minimizes it?
It's quite bad and very frustrating. Thanks, for any and all help.
I had the same problem with stock Android 2.2.1 on 3 phones all Galaxy S. Dropping the packages on voip calling, internet was slow most of the time. I use a linksys wrt54g with dd-wrt, I never had problems with any other devices.
My problem was solved when I installed GingerReal. Also on Miui I didn't had any problems with the wifi connection.
Maybe is just the stock driver incompatibility with some devices.
Thanks for the reply,
I've only had bad experiences with flashing, last time i did everytime right and Odin just hanged, i almost had a serious problem in my hands.
Since this is probably the first and last good phone i'll ever have, i would really like not to kill it (also some people in my family would be very disappointed, it was a gift).
So any workaround? Sorry i'm so insistent but i think that are a lot more people interested in this. TY.

[Q] Wifi Disconnecting in Gingerbread

My wifi is constantly getting disconnected. I have to reconnect many times a day. This is really getting frustrating. It was working fine(very much FINE) on froyo 2.2.1 xxkb3 rooted and deodexed but after i updated to 2.3.4 gingerbread, this problem began! Is there someone who might be knowing what the problem is????
First i tried stock XXKPH, then i tried after CF root and after that i thought a custom ROM might help so i installed GanaROM but wifi is not working properly in any one of them. It is getting diconnected if i don't use it for like 5-10 minutes. And i have even turned the wifi sleep policy in the advanced wifi settings to NEVER. But still!!

I have the problem like this. Can you try to ping 8.8.8.8 from console of your phone? I have almost 80% of lost packets. If you will see this, you have to change your WiFi router. I've tested my phone with 3 routers and only with Asus 520GU I can't use WiFi with GB (with Froyo all is perfect)

Yes, I have this problem and still don't have solution. That's why I'm at Froyo. I don't want to change my home WiFi router if I'm not sure that the phone will work with new one.

Serious Wifi Problem rooted Captivate with stock 2.1 Eclair

I have had my Captivate for a couple months now and the wifi has been working great without any problems. Today I power it on and try to connect to my wifi home network and it doesnt connect. I knew there was a real problem when I noticed that it is not finding any wifi networks and there are many around here.
My computer and xbox are on my home network and the net works fine so I ruled out a problem with the router.
I tried to use the wps button route and that didnt work.
I also tried to manually input the connection and it gives the the "not in range" message. I did a factory reset and still the same problems.
I have not downloaded any apps or flashed the rom....this just started out of nowhere. My Captivate is rooted and it is stock Eclair 2.1.
I hope you guys can help me with this problem.
Thank you.

If you unroot, does that change the outcome?
Are there any other steps you did on the phone recently?
There is/was a thread in the development section that dealt with this. It had to do with the dhcp file. I had this problem when I was on 2.1 and used the new dhcp file to fix it and it never failed again.
I'll poke around and see if I have it yet on my pc. Failing that I'd suggest upgrading to GB.
Well I'll be....
here is the post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907772
Warning.... Not sure if this is a 2.1 or 2.2 fix. I can't remember that far back! I'd just upgrade if I were you.
Yeah, I would just upgrade to the latest official release from Samsung.
Then re-root on that release.
If the problem persists with out root, you can then contact Samsung or your provider for assistance.
Or it may just fix the issue for you

Wi-Fi poblem in JB ROMS

After the wifi fix ( thanks to all devs who worked hard for that ) I am able to connect to my wifi.
But the problem is, I am not able to access my internet. The problem is the same for all JB ROMS(CM 10, miui v5). All I get is short bursts of access to internet during which webpage loads for a bit and just sticks there. Can't access the playstore too. It just gets stuck at signing in.
My wi-fi is good as I am using the same on my laptop.
Can't seem to figure out what the problem is and am sadly stuck on ICS.
Any help would be great...

That's what confuses me...How come is it only me having this problem..
I have tried flashing the ROM for 4-5 times now but each time it's the same...
Have tried doing complete wipe, with and without wiping /system, tried both prometheus and NOPE kernels but the problem persists.
And its the same for cm10 and MIUI v5...haven't tried any other JB based ROMS.
Maybe i shall try to turn off security in my wifi..(can that by any chance be causing it??)
Tunring off wifi security can only cause people freeloading on your wifi. I dont know about the problem.
You could turn off password authentication and filter by MAC address, just to be safe and be able to test at the same time. Although, I had no problems on connecting to secure networks. There is an authentication problem on reconnect, though.
Finally solved..
Got my wi-fi to work finally....
The problem apparently was with encryption....got an idea from this HOX thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989203
I earlier used to have a AES+TKIP encryption with WPA-PSK authentication....changing network authentication mode to OPEN made it work instantly.
But open connection = freeloaders...so tried a combination of WPA-PSK and TKIP and it worked too...haven't checked it with AES...
Finally wi-fi is working...
Thanks to everyone who tried to help out....i really appreciate it...

Further the wifi now disconnects only if no wifi related task is continuing and the phones locks up.
If a download is going on, it continues even after phone gets locked.
Just thought I should share that...
EDIT: airplane mode trick + wifi keep alive app (kudos to webhijacker for finding it out) does solve the Wi-fi issues..
