Wall charger and charging time - Nexus S Accessories

After I read several infos about this topic ...
Is that true that the Nexus S has limit of the amount of power it takes from the wall charger?
Suppose, it has limit of 750 mA.
Even if we use 1000 mA or 2000 mA, the Nexus S will take 750 mA during charging.
So, having much bigger mA charging rate will NOT speed up the charging time.
Am I correct?
Yesterday, I checked my Nexus S during wall charging:
65% charged at 01:57
87% charged at 02:48
So, it is about 22% per 50 minutes.
100% = 227 minutes (3 hours 47 minutes) ... almost 4 hours.
No task was performed, except turning on screen to check batt %.
And I was using HTC Desire charger (5v 1000 mA).
How long is yours?

Using an iPhone (1000mA) nubby it takes sometimes over four hours to charge mine

It definitely seems limited to me - though it seems that 1-2A chargers do cut 10-20% off of the charging time of the .7A stock charger. I said 30% in another thread, but further testing indicates that's not the case. Maybe the limit is around 750 or 800mA, and the stock charger doesn't really give .7 ?

if you want to charge the battery real fast
don't charge inside the phone
use a Wall charger for the battery, and it charges 100% in a little over 2 hours
the ones you find on eBay or Deal Extreme
find the ones that charges at 1000 mAh
you wont find any wall chargers for 2000 mAh (only available for cars)
the highest i've seen for wall is 1200 mAh
in my case it came in a combo so i got 2 extra batteries + wall charger

Same 1000 mA charger, but different charging time, help me choose ...

Hi,
I have 2 wall chargers:
- Original HTC Desire wall charger, rated 5V - 1000 mA
- Unbranded, rated 5V - 1000 mA
I made some tests to measure the charging time of my Nexus S using both wall charges.
While the HTC one, charged from 4% to 100% for about 4 hours:
* 20:40 - start at 4%
* 21:46 - 40%
* 22:01 - 48%
* 22:30 - 64%
* 22:51 - 76%
* 23:13 - 85%
* 23:32 - 90%
* I felt sleep
The unbranded one, charged from 4% to 100% for about 6 hours (I dont have the breakdown).
All tests were done with same condition (phone display off, no wifi, no GPS, nothing, only 3G stand-by).
Now, I want to sell my HTC Desire and for all honesty I must include the HTC charger.
And because of this test, I am not sure which 1000 mA wall charger to buy.
Even though both chargers that I own have 1000 mA, certainly the output result is different. I like the HTC charger because it cut down the charging time to just about 4 hours which I think is good for Nexus S.
Of course, I could buy another HTC charger, but the retail price is 36 euro here in The Netherlands
So, how fast is your wall charger? and what brand/model? And if possible how much?
PS: I did not test the original Nexus S charger because I am skeptical with 700 mA. I read some users here reported 6 hours charging time.
PSS: So far, my Nexus S battery is OK. I could get 1 day 11 hours usage time (on battery time).

[Q] Does your razr I charge very slowly?

I've noticed that if I try to charge my razr I with my car charger (2000ma USB griffin cigarette ) it charges quickly.
If I try the same with my ipad charger it seems to go really slow?
The ipad charger should also output 2000ma so I don't know why it's charging slowly unless the razr i is limiting the amount of current it is drawing?
Bigger battery, more charging to do. One guy, somewhere on here, posted a chart showing the speed and duration of his charging. It took about 2 hours for a full charge. Know that generally, phones are made to accept a charge faster for the first 30/40/50% of the cycle and to charge more normally after that.
You just have to make some counts. The charger charges at 900 mAh. So you need 2 hours and 10 minutes (more or less) to charge all the 2000 mAh battery. Maybe you use a different charger that charges more mAh.

Problem with HTC One charger, defective?

i am using an app called battery monitor widge from the play store t and have logs for the past day .
its showing different values when charging with the stock HTC charger.
Not sure if the phone or battery circuit does this , it seems the charging on the htc charger is on/off... like charging in pulses
sometimes +600 mah, stops , sometimes _ +300 mah stops , sometimes - xxx mah ...
i think its trickle charging they say the phone trickle charges after 80%. but the prob here is on the HTC charger the charge is fluctuating even below 80%
i tried a note 1 charger which has the same rating as the HTC charger. same behaviour
so it tells me the battery does not like 1A
then i switched to a 700 ma samsung charger . so far it shows a constant current of 800 mah...there is no on/off behaviour
and there is a constant charging current applied except that around 90% onwards the charge tapers off
I seem to recall reading something on the web a long time ago that said that charging at less than 1C could actually result in a faster charge to 80-90% charge.
The rationale being that if you charge at a higher rate, it forces the voltage up to the maximum faster and then the charger has to ramp down the current faster.
If you charge at say 0.7C then it takes longer for the voltage to hit the maximum and then, counterintuitively, the average current for the duration of the charge is actually higher.
I am tested this theory now... but it seems like it could be true.
using samsung charger rated @ 7C and using the battery monitor app, the samsung charger is keeping the phone charged at a constant 700 mah but the HTC charger is fluctuating from 500+ mah to 600 mah ten sometimes to 900 mah
not sure why the samsung charger seems to charge the HTC one faster than the HTC charger..
cant explain why though
They say there are different chargers behave differently with different batteries.
can someone care to share some light here?

Droid Turbo Turbo Charge , Quick Charge 2.0 question

So few days ago got the phone , but always charged it through USB port. Now finally tried turbo charger and it definitely isn't "turbo". I know most of those Turbo claims what I saw were just selling strategy , but I'm pretty sure I'm not even getting 1% - 1 minute. Latest Marshmallow OTA.
So , on a relatively new battery , how fast does your phones charge ? You can write with phone turned off and on..
Also looking at the charger it says for output :
Standard output :5V =1.6A
Turbo output :9v=1.6A
Turbo2 output :12v = 1.2A
This deosn't make any sense to me, while raising volts may solve some power losses through cable , amps are what charges your phone faster or slower , and 1.6A , isn't really a big deal not to mention 1.2A. Reading somewhere that quick charge 2,0 supports up to 3amps draw..
I have One Plus one and it's original charger is 2.1A (quick charge 1.0 ) , with custom kernel bumped charging rate all the way up and good cable I'm seeing about 2Amps of charging in real life , or little more than 1% per minute . I was expecting motorola to charge faster or at least even , even though they are 3100 vs 3900mAh batteries.. Not to mention I can easily mod OnePlus One and get same SOT and battery overall as motorola's, while on motorola I'm stuck with stupid locked bootloader . Original idea was to sell OnePlus One because of Motorola, but I don't know now anymore..
The volts and amps listed on an electrical device are typically its max or rated output, NOT what it "always" delivers. That being said, most power supplies will deliver their rated voltage most of the time, but the current is determined by the charged device (through it's effective resistance)... so as long as you run below the rated current, you'd be fine.
Secondly, from what I'm reading, the OPO doesn't have quick-charge technology (ref: https://www.reddit.com/r/oneplus/co...lcomm_quickcharge_20/?st=ix64k1gy&sh=6d7492c9 ) so I'm not sure what you're talking about there. Again, the charger may say 2.1A, but that doesn't mean it's actually delivering that much all the time. I have a relatively old Kindle Fire with a 2.1A charger, but I know it doesn't charge very fast even with that device.
If you want to talk about Volts and Amps, you need to use actual volt/amp meters to see what you're getting.. Note, there is an app for Android (called Ampere) that claims to report amp-rates, but it also has a caveat saying that the current should not be taken as completely accurate, for various reasons.
Lastly, note that QC doesn't actually run when you are at higher charge levels... I think it's above 80% or something? After that level, it returns to "standard charging" mode for this "top-off" phase of the battery charge cycle. So, if you're seeing slow charge rates there, it's to be expected.
The Turbo has a relatively massive battery. Mine takes...somewhere upwards of 3ish hours on turbo charging to replenish.
1 hour 15 minutes
that's what it takes to go from 0 to 100% using Turbo Charger 2.0
Thank you all for answering, this is exactly why I started this thread. Already see here some interesting results!

Thanks! Actually, OnePlus ONE DOES have quick charge 1.0 which is 5v up to 2.1A. Snapdragon 801 supports quick charge 2.0 but OPO didn't implement it with phone. There are billions of topic on this at OPO forum and a lot of people done tests including myself. The problem with OPO is it's very sensitive on cable so it works best with OEM cable and it somehow recognizes it. There is app called OPO charging current so I monitored with it and synapse . Kernel setup hardware to be able to recive very max 2100mA no mather which cable. Stock ONEplus charger. Some cheap cables gave me from 300 - 600 mA max with screen on . I found at home some cable that looked cheap but said charge only, tried and it charged around 1600mA with screen on and around 1800 screen off. Later got Anker 21 AWG and results were even better , aroun 1800-1900mA screen on and close to maximum 2000mA screen off. Phone was charging 1% in less than a minute. Thought turbo can charge at same rate. After all , it's "boosted" lol.
I know it doesn't do quick charge after around 75% , I tried at 30%. Given all that , 1600mA which is maximum I see on the Motorola's charger is not something special if we disregard Voltage..

Because if you charge from 0-100 in 1h 15min, thats around 3.2Amps charging current , while our buddy Einsteindks here gets around 1.3Amps and max amp I see on "rola's charger is 1.6Amps. I'm confused now.
Also can somebody post picof stock droid turbo USB cable shipped in bundle? I think I don't have stock cable, it says right at the plug phone side "be hello". No other labels or anything..

According to your guess-timate and max rated power I see on the charger, that seems about right and realistic guess BUT there also isn't anything TURBO about it. I'ts the average charging speed of every device today (1.5A) which doesn't have any kind of quick charge option. Even quick charge 1.0 is faster with 2.1A at 5v . Thats why I opened this topic, I'm confused.
Only voltage is higher on turbo charger than let's say my OPO charger but amps are lower and voltage doesn't have that much of an impact on charging speed, amps do!
When I have my Turbo in my truck at night, and running about a dozen things at once, in addition to all the background stuff, NO 'regular' charger can keep up with the power demand, and the battery undergoes a insanely slow discharge. By itself, the battery lasts 3 or 4 hours, tops. With the turbocharger, the battery charges at a modest rate, maybe 10% per 30 minutes...while under high demand.

Since no other turbo users jumped in...
At the time of starting the topic I have disabled some Verizon's bloatware (completely stock, locked turbo). After reflashing completely stock FW , and with untouched software, droid really did charged turbo fast. More than 1% per minute and around 0-60% for 30min just as advertised for quick charge 2.0 . So if anyone was wondering, that should be benchmark.
On the other hand, phone is almost impossible to charge with any other type of "normal" charger..
My Turbo, running stock MM/root/Xposed with a large load of apps, will charge 20-30% per hour on a normal 1A charger, while lying on the desk with the screen off. It charges at a similar rate via Qi wireless charging. This is plenty for daily overnight charging. My usage habits are such that I usually have 20-40% battery left when I get home from work in the evening.
In a different usage case, when I play Ingress (a real battery eater, screen on + 3D animated graphics + GPS + data) the Qi charger in my car holds discharge to about 5-10% per hour.
I've never had a turbo charger to compare, but I've never found the normal charger or Qi charger to be significantly lacking.

Right, I've also used "normal" charger before. Now, I have all QuickCharge plug chargers -- but I still use Qi wireless charging every day, as does my wife.
I also plug in via USB port on my computer and it charges fine.
okay the way the turbo charging works is that it's like a tier system at very very low charge percentages it works the fastest and slows off after about 60 or 70 percent it just charges like a regular charger all the magic happens at the lower charges. another thing is that unless the cable you are using is total garbage it won't matter at all. it is all the phone and the ac adapter that do the work any variations in the cable will be negligible. I am monitoring my battery through the custom kernel (bhb27 and its app) and it says right now at 81% charge on a turbo charging that I am getting +1172.x mA if my battery was lower this value would be much much higher
lastly I recommend only using the turbo charger when you really need power quickly. if you are just plugging in your phone for the night it makes no sense and will actually be bad for your battery health. the faster it charges the more it heats up and heat is not good for the battery health when I plug my phone in at night I use a .5 amp charger and my phone says that it will need like 8 or 9 hours to charge (this may be exsessive but the quick chargers heat up my phone a lot I also use a 1 and 2 amp charger nearby

i prefer the 18 w fast charged since it wont degrade the battery as fast as 30 w fast charger. of course a 6000 mah is more difficult to degrade, but the life span will be better with 18w charger
the tencent edition 8/128 is a best buy.. not worth the global 12/512gb . only it has little more bands, all glass body, some new accessory and fast charged. reccomended only for people that use more than 128gb.
128gb is more than enough for me and an almost 1000$ 512gb global model is not giustified!

Proper fast charging shouldn't degrade a battery any faster than normal charging, as long as it doesn't cause the battery to heat up more than normal or charge to a higher finished voltage than normal. What degrades a battery is charging it to 100% all the time, because that last 5 to 10 percent of the charge is up in the 4.15 to 4.2+ volts per cell, which causes the damage that we see as degradation. If you limited the charge to 80%, or even 90% you'd get a MUCH slower degradation of the battery.

And what's nice about the phone is that it gives you a way to mitigate this right from settings. Go to Settings, Battery, PowerMaster, Battery Care. Here you can set times for dynamic charging between hours X and Y to get to 100% instead of as fast as you can. Mine is set 10 pm to 7 am for now.

It takes 4 hours with the phone off or on. If it's on make sure that scheduled charging isn't activated during the period you try to charge the phone.
If non of what I suggested is useful, it's better you take your device to ASUS service center.

There is a problem with your device battery mate either this or your charger is the issue. From 50% to 100% it shouldn't take more than 1 hour and that's with the default charger that comes with the device itself 18W. Try to charge the device with another charger and compare. Otherwise I advice you to taking it to the service center.

Thank you for your advice, I will try charging using my Sony Xperia 1 charger & see if it makes any difference.
Otherwise the battery holds charge very well. I will update you shortly as I've only had the device for 3 days...
I will also order this and see if it helps:
JuicEBitz® 25W 3 Port USB FAST QC3.0 Mains Charger Adapter +
It should provide me with the fastest supported charge. I'll order it next week & once tested I will report back.

I already have an update and know what the problem is.
Around 30 minutes back, I had 60% battery. Just now I unplugged it and it was 96%
I used original Sony Xperia 1 18w charger and cable. This means that there is an issue with the supplied Asus charger, it is charging very slowly. The 18W Sony charger is charging much faster than the 30W Asus...
Anyway to charge only to 80% in software? With a 6000 mAh battery, I don't really need to charge to full if I can increase longevity of the battery life.
