Blue Pull-Down Status Bar Mod [DK28] - Epic 4G Themes

This is my first mod
Tell me how you like it and don't forget to thank if you like it
**REQUIRES ROOT** I am not responsible for any damage done to your device.
Never tried it in 2.1 or DI18, probably would work but not positive. If anyone tries it tell us how it works
-------------------------------
(You will need SDK & ADB)
Instructions:
1. Download the twframework-res.apk
2. Move the twframework-res.apk to the tools folder in the SDK (Usually in C:/Program Files/Android/sdk...or something in that range) [Where ever your SDK is]
*If adb is in platform tools, cut and paste the 3 adb files into tools*
3. In the tools folder, make sure no files are selected and hold shift and right click, then select open command window here.
4. Enter the following 6 commands in this order (ignore # signs or $ signs):
*Your device should ask to allow something SU permissions be sure to accept*
adb push twframework-res.apk sdcard/twframework-res.apk
adb shell
su
remount rw
cat sdcard/twframework-res.apk > system/framework/twframework-res.apk
reboot
Congratulations!!! Your phone should reboot and everything will look as it did in screenshot

I like the look. Might want to put it in a flashable .zip to get more users.

I been away from stock for so long I don't see what exactly the mod is

I hear that lol. Hes got 3 mods in that pic, the short cut buttons on press, status bar background, and the bottom of the status bar
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk

Sweet, its short and to the point, but if you click here you can customize it a little more. Some of the wording is similar to this OP as well.

I would love this on my phone but I'm still to new to flashing and roms and tweaking. It would go great with my current layout and color theme

What, I dont get any credit? Kidding. I wanna be in the credits though, I helped. >.> <.<

[GUIDE] How to downgrade from OTA RUU 2.2 to 2.1

Fixed the typo's in the code, thanks to Contempt4You for pointing it out for me.
Note, i had to remove the links due to the restrictions of being a new user, but the tools can be found fairly easily, you will need the revert.zip that contains flash_image and mtd0.img, the evo-root.zip from the how to root android 2.2 on the evo 4g on this forums and all you need is the rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin, and an original PB31IMG.zip from the RUU 2.1
I adapted this guide from these instructions
As always, I have no responsibility when you try this things go really foobar, and you have a nice paper weight.
I am going to copy and paste much of the instructions off of the page above, make the changes specific to the DInc, and will try to update the links for the stuff to download as I can. Everything that is needed is already hosted somewhere on the internet.
Make sure your phone is unplugged from your computer until I tell you to plug it in!
If you already have the Android SDK and HTC Sync set up on your computer, skip to Step 4 now
Step 1: Download the Android SDK here
Step 2: Extract the Android SDK zip. Move the contents of the extracted zip to C:\
Your Android tools folder path should now be C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Step 3: Download HTC Sync 2.0.40
Run the installer. Move on once installed. If reboot is required, do so and then move on.
Windows 7 Users:
Go to your start menu, then control panel. When that is open, (if you are in category view mode) click on "Uninstall a program" and then choose HTC Sync to uninstall. If you are in Icon view mode choose "Programs and Features" and then click on HTC Sync to uninstall. This will load the proper drivers needed for unrevoked3.
Other Windows Version Users:
Go to your start menu, then control panel. When that is open, select Add/Remove Programs, and then choose HTC Sync to uninstall. This will load the proper drivers needed for unrevoked3.
next download
It contains a few files necessary to root the DInc.
Unzip the contents of the zip to your android sdk tools folder.
Also download the original 2.1 PB31IMG.zip file, or is a download link to the RUU 2.1.
Put this zip in your sdk tools folder as well, as a zip, not extracted.
After unzipping the contents of revert.zip to your android sdk tools folder and placing the PC31IMG.zip move on.
Step 4: Make sure USB Debugging is ON (checked) on your EVO. Go to Settings > Applications > Development > and make sure it is checked.
Step 5: Plug your phone into the computer via USB, Make sure that the connection type in the Notification Pull-Down Bar is "Charge Only", not "Disk Drive" or else this won't work.
If your computer asks you to restart after the new drivers were installed, do that now.
Step 6: Open up a command promt from your android-sdk/tools folder.
Windows 7 users:
Open up the android sdk folder and hold shift and right click on the tools folder. You will see an option that says "Open command window here" Choose that one and you will be set. the command prompt should read something like C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>
Other Windows Version Users:
Go to the start menu, go to All Programs, then Accessories, and click on command prompt. Once open type
Code:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
Once ready, type these commands in cmd prompt from your adb tools directory. After every line press enter.
Code:
adb push unrevoked-forever.zip /sdcard/
adb push flash_image /data/local/
adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/
adb push mtd0.img /sdcard/
adb push PB31IMG.zip /sdcard/
Note: the PB31IMG.zip will take longer than expected to transfer to the sdcard. It is a BIG file.
Now we chmod a few things. After every line press enter. It should repeat what you typed in and then return you to a blank line with an $ for everything in adb shell
Code:
adb shell
cd /data/local/tmp
chmod 0755 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
cd /data/local
chmod 0755 /data/local/flash_image
Ok now for the root shell.
*
(still in adb shell)
Code:
cd /data/local/tmp
./rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
You will now see some text on your cmd prompt screen explaining the exploit.
Wait for the adb shell to go away, and it will dump you into your windows command prompt again (no shell) should look something like this:
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>
Once that dumps you out of the shell, type
Code:
adb shell
and you will see you now have a
Code:
#
instead of a
Code:
$
now type
Code:
cd /data/local
./flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd0.img
that will flash your misc partition with Toast's mtd-eng.img.
This should return you to a blank line with #.
If you get an "Out of memory error" with a huge list of weird lines, here's how to fix it.
Reboot your phone normally.
Open a command prompt and go backwards in this guide until you see the big red * and start from there.
Once it is flashed correctly, move on:
Type
Code:
reboot bootloader
Remember how you pushed that huge PB31IMG.zip to your sdcard earlier? This is where that comes in handy. Once you booted into hboot, Select "bootloader" with your volume up/down buttons and hit the power button. Let it sit for a little bit while it loads the PB31IMG.zip. This can take up to 5 minutes. When it finally asks if you want to apply this zip, choose YES. (Remember, this is the same as running an RUU, so it will delete all of your user data).
Once it is finished, select restart. You now are on the stock 2.1 build of Android.
From here you can root your phone and do unrevoked forever and what not for the people that updated to 2.2 without being s=off
Confirmed Works.
Thank You So much
I have been tyring to find a way to do this all day...works perfectly...took a little effort to find the files but overall great right up....
If someone who has enough post wants to post the links to the files, please do.

well really all you have to do now is flash a original PB31IMG.zip in HBOOT if you have s-off which you should if you're hacking in the first place.

Don't you think the whole point of his post was for people who didn't do S-OFF and did the latest leaked RUU and are stuck now because they fail to read.
Yeah, that is what this guide is about is for the people who were not s-off. At the time I did the ruu update I didn't feel comfortable doing s-off and then I learned about it, felt better, but then it was too late, I already updated to froyo. This is how I solved that problem so I could s-off my phone after the update.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
nice man so this is for people who didn't do s-off before doing the 2.2 RUU and can now go back to 2.1 so essentially they could now s-off to get root for 2.2? great work, bro!
** would this work for new phones, or say a refurb that came with 2.2 already, and unrevoked hasn't come out with a new root method yet, so you could use this method to get back to 2.1, s-off, then ota to 2.2 and attain root. even better.
excellent post assuming it works
lots of people will want this if they need to root now.
In theory it should work, I don't see why it wouldn't. I don't have one that came with 2.2 so I don't know for sure.

I took a quick glance at this and stopped because right away I noticed errors and didn't wanna screw anything up. Glad to see it works, thanks.
here you go!
Android SDK
HTC Sync 2.0.40
revert.zip that contains flash_image and mtd0.img
the evo-root.zip contains rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
original PB31IMG.zip from the RUU 2.1 or if you prefer rapishare, here you go
I believe he used this guide
sorry if this is a stupid question, but to confirm, does this process downgrade the radio too? The radio is what worries me the most, and presumably because the 2.15 radio was in the RUU, this process would downgrade it back to 1.x? Is it contained in the PCI...zip file? thanks all (used the RUU and now don't have any sound from internal speaker, trying to get back)
If you will send me a PM with what typos I made, I will fix them. I am currently in AIT with the guard and don't have much time. The code should be correct, I believe the typos is where I wrote it up, and then had to remove the links because of the forums restriction of posting links when you are new.
Yes, this does downgrade the radio too. You are making your phone exactly like it came originally.
Thank you so much for posting he links.

Hey smwoodward, I hope you don't mind but I posted a reiteration of your guide on my blog. I see this being needed in the future for the new DInc's that will come with flavor of 2.2 out the box.

[MOD/GUIDE]This is HOW TO Remove HTC Lockscreen and Get Default Android one.

Hello Everyone,
This is Just a small and easy mod/guide for all those who want Default Android Lockscreen and like me hate the HTC slide down Lockscreen:
Usual Warning : I am not responsible if by doing the steps below ::
You brick your phone (Highly unlikely if you follow only given steps).
Your GF starts loving your phone and wants it.
Your GF gets pregnant. Its you who did it .. well hopefully
Let's not delete your lockscreen just keep it in case you want it back. yeah yeah i am all for safety just like my rom.
(Always be safe)
STEP BY STEP GUIDE
Connect your phone and use ROM manager to reboot into recovery alternatively you can disconnect your phone reboot into recovery (vol down+power) and then connect your cable when you can see the green text.
Select partition menu or mount ** (dont remember the option its mount something something) depending on your recovery version and Mount system
Now i hope you know how to use adb. (Download and install android sdk)
Open command prompt (cd "path to android-sdk-windows/tools" without quotes) on my pc for example it is
Code:
cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
If you're on LINUX i am sure you know what to do.next all instructions are same:for Windows and Linux
Run following commands
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.apk HtcLockScreen.bak
exit
Now you will get a nice transparent default android lockscreen.
In case you want your stock HTC lockscreen back do this
Code:
adb remount
adb shell
cd /system/app
mv HtcLockScreen.bak HtcLockScreen.apk
exit
I have tried this with SUnAaBh ROM and it works flawlessly and ideally should work with every ROM including those not meant for HTC Wildfire.
The suggestion in the next post i.e post No.2 will cause your framework to change i.e your Theme and look of icons on notification bar, dropdown bar, battery icon etc SO to Preserve your framework just INSTALL THIS FILE..its same from attachment.
Hit Thanks if it helped.
This doesnt fix the Alarm clock bug that appears when removing the HTC lockscreen.
This does:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10192875&postcount=2
Using it on Wildpuzzle 0.1 with no problems.
Will using this work:
- If you set a alarm ( for waking up or something ), does it work then?
- If you start Angry Birds, to make it working I must power off my screen, go to lockscreen and unlock it. And then I could play. Does this work too with this lockscreen?
Thanks in advance!

I've tried this a minute ago! And it's really simple.
1. Download the android-sdk-windows folder and place it anywhere
2. start cmd.exe ( open it via start > cmd.exe )
2. Enter: cd: C:\whatever\whatever\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools
3. enter: adb.exe
4. then enter the things from the first page ( the adb commands )
5. unmount system ( ! ) on phone
6. reboot phone.
And you got it! I really don't ever used adb! So it's really simple with instructions. Maybe you could include my instructions?

[SCRIPT/MOD] Deodexed files for Bell (06/05/11)

If you are looking for how to get back to stock Bell, go HERE.
Disclaimer: I have not tested this on anything but my phone. This is a development section of a hacking website. Make backups. Know what you are doing.
Credits:
Brut.all for apktool
edgan for 2nd-init
designgears for aroot inspiration.
xda for being a source of info.

Requirements:
Windows 7 or Ubuntu 10.10+ (10.10 and 11.04 tested)
Java installed. (For applymods, it uses apktool)
Running Phone, not in recovery mode, etc.
Tips:
Don't factory reset please if something goes wrong, it just erases your personal settings, it doesn't write to the system partition. It also deletes your data partition, making it harder to get back to stock.
Early usb mode, turn your phone on while holding down the lower volume button, when it says fastboot, release and press volume down repeatedly until it says early usb enumeration, then press up volume. It takes 30 seconds or so before adb is ready.

Version 9:
Download it here.
What's new:
Added support for 2nd-int (WIP, tested on stock Bell only)
shsu updated to allow a super user to become a super user, acts like sh in that case.
fixed linux install_recovery.sh and uninstall_recovery.sh scripts to use shsu instead of remaining using su. Ditto with ApplyMods.sh
Boot animation now smaller, using jpegs instead of png files, no difference in appearance.

Version 8:
Download it here.
What's new:
Added full phone backup and full restore phone options to the menu. It will download a backup if there is none found.
root script more universal, tries psneuter first, then gingerbreak.
Early usb recovery updated, now uses a tmpfs for system, also mounts /sdcard and /sdcard-ext.
Deodexed French 2.1.1 files incorporated.
Misc fixes

Version 7:
What's new:
New Menu script for windows and linux in the top folder, double click Menu and enter options.
ApplyMods and other scripts updated to use /data/local/tmp/system, this means I can update system.tar.gz and add folders to be copied into system.
Early USB enumeration recovery option. (experimental but useful as is)
Fixed bugs in windows scripts. Can't get user input from bat file while in a parenthesis block apparently.
Bloat backed up to sdcard now
root and unroot scripts updated with more prompts for rebooting phone.

Version 6:
What's new:
Support for Telstra 1.4.2.
ApplyMods can create signed update.zips now, Create_update.bat updated. both using basic ready made scripts in main bin folder instead of creating them on the fly, CR LF issues.
Updated root and unroot scripts, more fool proofing, has to be Bell stock firmware (psneuter doesn't work on telstra).
Includes basic boot animation, and mod for Bell apn on telstra firmware. (Have to reset to default under access point names in settings.)
transparent status bar, yellow tinted white for text color, matches front buttons somewhat.

Version 5.1:
Features:
Works under Linux and Windows 7
Includes root and no ads scripts
Patch system for applying modifications.
What's new:
New scripts for doing mods, fixes issues with patch 9 images.
Updated root and unroot scripts, more fool proofing.
New RestoreSystemPartition script
Custom apktool for more [hopefully] bug free installations.
How to use:
Extract archive, keeping folder structure intact.
run a command prompt/terminal (There is a link to one in the windows folder)
run root.bat or root.sh from the linux or windows folders, depending on which one you are using.
Turn the phone off after that is done and turn it back on again.
The rest of the scripts shouldn't be run with psneuter affecting the phone.
run ApplyMods.bat (.sh) [OPTIONAL] This applies webtop hack and translucent status bar, translucent notification drop down, etc. Select update system.tar.gz.
run install_bell_deodex.bat or .sh
System image of stock Bell.
Mirror of above
Cheers!

I wouldn't try theming with ATT files, I would take what was done to them and apply them myself to the deodexed files here. There may or may not be differences that are not obvious. I am never really sure if there is any benefit to this stuff, it's fun to do, about it.

The soft_brick.bat script is specific to the folders I am using for transferring data to /system/app and /system/framework. It tries to get root via psneuter, mounts system read write, deletes dalvik-cache files, and tries to copy the files already on the phone to the right folders. It could be that just one file caused the phone to crash mid copy and copying it again will fix things. This avoids trying to do a usb data transfer of all the files which you don't have time to do otherwise. I was also thinking that install-recovery.sh would be a good place to do this, (and then clobber it later with the init.d hack) but I couldn't find setprop and I wasn't in need enough to select a file to use as a semaphore.

Thanks, a lot, really, 10 chars..
How do I recover from a softbrick from this? Thanks.
Before anything is done, all the files are extracted to /data/local/tmp/app and /data/local/tmp/framework. If you run into problems put the phone into fastboot/early usb enumeration mode (see here) and run soft_brick.bat (.sh for linux)
Quote:
A soft brick, in this case, is when you make a bad edit to your framework files and the phone won't fully boot and starts flashing a red LED at you.
There is one catch, you only get about 1-2min to do all of this before the phone reboots on its own. If that happens, do SuperOneClick steps again and continue where you left off. Better yet, build a script to do it all for you
Power off your device
Enter Fastboot:
Hold Volume down + power until you see Fastboot at the top left
Use volume down to scroll down to "Early USB Enumeration" (only shows one item at a time, if you pass it, keep going down, up selects)
Press Volume up to select
This is the message I get when i run the batch file.
This is of course when invoking Early USB Enumeration.
Wait for the count down to finish ...

The timeout message means you are running a version of windows without timeout, see adeo thread.
The lines for rm just mean there are no files to delete in the Dalvik-cache, which is normal, you should see that the second time around.
The cp lines are saying that there are no files in /data/local/tmp/app (/framework).
So, that's unusual, in order to get soft bricked using my script you would to have copied files from /data/local/tmp to /system, and if you are bricked would be unable to delete the files afterword.
sequence:
cd /system
cp /data/local/tmp/app/* app/
sync
reboot now
**brick**
So, how are the /data/local/tmp/app files being deleted?
No clue. I'm not sure what to do here? Is my phone permanently bricked? Any other way to recover from this? The one thing that could have gone wrong is I tried installing from my behind my works firewall. Maybe I could not download the proper files.
No, you are soft bricked, you only made a change (that I know of) in system files.
Were you rooted before you tried this?
If you copy the soft_brick.bat files and change the last line to be adb.exe shell ls -R /data/local/tmp, what do you get?
Basically, it sounds like to need to get the files copied over to data/local/tmp, how they are missing/inaccessible is odd. So, create a script to copy the files over bit by bit, might take a while but it should be able to be done.
EDIT:
Do this:
from command prompt:
adb.exe shell ./data/local/tmp/psneuter
wait a few seconds
type this:
adb shell ls -l -R /data/local/tmp
if psneuter fails, it isn't in /data/local/tmp, which is also odd.
I was rooted before this. So I should attempt all these commands while Early USB Enumeration right? That doesn't give me much time Lol.
OK, here's the output.
C:\bell_deodex>adb.exe shell ./data/local/tmp/psneuter
* daemon not running. starting it now on port 5037 *
* daemon started successfully *
property service neutered.
killing adbd. (should restart in a second or two)
C:\bell_deodex>adb shell ls -l -R /data/local/tmp
/data/local/tmp:
-rwxr-xr-x root root 585731 2011-01-09 02:02 psneuter
-rw-r--r-- mot_tcmd mot_tcmd 4 2011-03-30 21:00 ap_tcmd.pid
C:\bell_deodex>^A
And sorry to be a pain. How would I create the script? What are the files that need to be copied? Are they included in your script?

ADB How-To

Ok so Ive seen a few people posting in the dev section that they cant get adb working. So heres a quick write up on how to get it working on windows and linux (ubuntu) machines. Follow these directions and you should have no problems. If you notice any errors dont hesitate to point them out to me! This is meant to help, not confuse.
First you need to download ADB.
Click here and select the download appropriate for your operating system: Android SDK
For Windows:
1.Extract the .zip file you downloaded and make a note of where you extracted to.
2.Go into the extracted android-sdk_r12-windows folder.
(if you go into this folder and have another folder named 'android-sdk_r12-windows' then cut and paste it outside of the extracted folder)
3.Open SDK Manager. Let it do its thing and then make sure 'Select All' is checked and click 'Install'
4.When its done it will say ADB has been updated and needs to restart. Select OK.
5.Now go back to your android-sdk_r12-windows folder and you should have a new folder called 'platform-tools'
6.Go into that folder and you should see 'adb'
7.Now to make things easy you're going to create an adb shortcut:
Right click your desktop and choose to create a new shortcut.
It will ask you to type a location for the shortcut. Enter "CMD" without the "".
Click 'Next'
For the name type "ADB" without the "".
Now right click the shortcut you just created and select 'Properties'
Now in the Properties dialog where it says Start In, type the path to your Android SDK foler. In my case I extracted the folder to my desktop, so my path would be C:\Users\Jason\Desktop\android-sdk_r12-windows.
Then click 'OK'
Now all you have to do is click this shortcut and you're automatically in adb in the command prompt.
For Linux:
Everything above is going to be pretty much the same except for the way you get into adb.
So do steps 1-6 above.
Now, instead of a shortcut you're going to open terminal and type the following:
sudo cp <path to your sdk platform-tools folder> /usr/bin
(for <path to your sdk platform-tools folder> it will depend on where you extracted the .zip to. In my case it would look like this because I extracted it to my desktop on MY computer:
sudo cp /home/jason/Desktop/android-sdk-linux_x86/platform-tools/adb /usr/bin
now you can access adb directly from Terminal.
Now I dont own a Mac so Im not going to put a writeup for that. But someone can feel free to post one and I can add it to my original post.
Thats it you now have access to adb on your computer! Go flash alternate recoveries and roms and be merry in 3D!
I am on my mobile app right now and haven't been able to find the link yet in the development section, but can pretty much guarantee that most ppl are having the issue I had with error messages about being denied BC u don't have permission. You have to change the permissions to get read and write access. If someone with better knowledge than me knows about it, then please feel free to elaborate. I spent hours trying to find answers before I stumbled across how to fix permissions. I know it requires u to enter adb shell and the into su to enter the code to change permissions so u can use adb push as well as adb root, etc. If no one addresses this shortly then I will find the link on my laptop and update.

Holy cow! I have a new found respect for developers. I wanted the adb tools just so I can flash CWM recovery. Now I'm having to download updated java and there's a ton of stuff to download for the SDK tools.
I'll have to admit that I loved my Captivate in how easy it was to flash CWM and roms and really anything else.
how can i do this if my phone is bricked stuck on lg logo

[HOW-TO] Enable USB Charging

This guide is to enable USB charging on your Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Requirements:
- Any rooted ROM with Pershoot's kernel
- ScriptManager (free market app)
- USB Charging Script
Procedures
- Ensure you have a rooted rom/custom rom with pershoot's kernel like task650 and PhantomHacker's In Paris rom. Download and install ScriptManager from Android Market. Download the script using the link above and store it anywhere on your tab.
- Open script manager
- Navigate to wherever you stored the script and choose it. Tick run as root and run on boot. Press run.
- If it asks for superuser/root access, please allow it.
- you're done. Press home to exit. Reboot.
Note
Please read and follow all instructions and I am not responsible if anything goes wrong. this should not damage your battery. the reason why samsung disabled usb charging is not because they were worried it would damage the battery. it is because the tab charges very slowly over usb, so they didnt want people to leave a zero battery tablet charging overnight on their pc usb to wake up and find that its only charged 50%.
The common USB connections provide 5 volts DC and between 500mAh to 1,000mAh at most whereas the main power supply provides 12 volts DC and between 1200mAh to 2400mAh. Our Samsung Galaxy Tab needs about 2,000mAh for normal charging. This mod just lets you charge using that low voltage and current from the usb anyways. It is useful for someone like me who never lets the battery drain to zero and I am almost always next to a laptop so when I am watching tv or doing something else, it is always charging.
thanks to pershoot for his kernel, developers on this forum for their excellent roms.
thanks to Giblet-dono for his help and pointers in this thread

Requirements:
- Any ROM with Pershoot's kernel
- Samsung Mobile drivers (most of you should already have them)
- Latest Android SDK (download the zip file)
- ADB files
Procedure:
- Dont plug in your Galaxy Tab via USB yet. Make a nandroid backup just incase something goes wrong. (Boot into clockworkmod recovery -> backup and restore -> backup)
- Install the Samsung Mobile drivers
- Extract the contents of the sdk zip file onto your desktop. you should get a folder called android-sdk-windows.
- Open this folder and copy all its contents. Go to your C: drive and create a folder called androidsdk and paste the files into this folder.
- Extract the contents of the ADB files zip file you downloaded to C:\androidsdk\tools
- On your tablet, go to Settings->Applications->Development and enable USB debugging. Plug in your Galaxy Tab now.
- On your Windows computer, click on Start and type in cmd in the search bar and press enter.
- type the following and press enter after each line
cd\
cd androidsdk\tools
adb devices
- you should see a combinations of letters and numbers followed by the word device. this means that the adb can interact with your tablet.
- type in the following to enable usb charging (ensure that command prompt is still in the C:\androidsdk\tools folder). again press enter after each line.
adb shell
echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
exit
you should now be able to charge your tablet via usb.
thanks to pershoot for his kernel, developers on this forum for their excellent roms, and a whole bunch of online guides i looked up on how to access adb lol

Will this work on my viewsonic gtablet as well?
hi sorry. like i said in the "requirements", for this to work you need a kernel made by a developer called pershoot. i dont know if hes made any for the viewsonic tablets. please visit his website and see if he has kernels for viewonic tablets and if he has included the option to enable usb charging on them
thats amazing, will try it as soon as possible

Hi thanks. If there's an easier way of ddoing this can you please tell us the steps. I did what you suggested but it says permission denied. Thanks
I have put the line in a init.d script which automatically runs on boot!
You can also use script manager (free) to make a script which does this on boot !
Goodluck!

Hi thanks. So did you jjust created a script with the following line -
echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
OK figured it out thx

Your welcome. Are you following the old instructions or the new ones? If you follow the new instructions the usb charging is always set to on even after you restart

Adding to an existing script works for me. Could not get it working for a new script. Must be missing something. Ironically I just made two cables up tonight with resistors as per other forums. Both hardware and software setups work well! Screw you Samsung
Oh and, THANK YOU for the tip. Go Blacks!
Do you leave the #!... Line in there or delete that?
Keep getting permission denied when I run it. A superhero issue?

Yep leave that line there. Press enter to go to the next line. Then type in
su
Press enter again. It should ask for superuser permission which requires root. Allow it root access. Now type in
echo 1 > /sys/class/power_supply/battery/force_usb_charging
And save it and follow the rest of the steps in OP
I'm not getting a su request when I'm typing the script. Getting a notification when I run it, then says su isn't found

Make sure of the following -
- your tablet is rooted
- you have busybox v1.18.2 or lower by downloading busybox installer from market
running in Paris, so that's taken care of.
Su gave permission now. It's just sitting there saying it's running [email protected]:/ #. should it stay like that or will it finish at some point. Thanks for the script, once I figure this out it'll be great.

Yep its supposed to just sit there. Once you have saved it, just press the back key and choose the file you created. Tick run as root and run on boot and click run. Again it won't do much and it will just show you a command prompt screen. Press home. It should work.
If its getting too complicated for you to follow, I just uploaded my script in the OP. just download it to your tab and run it using ScriptManager. Just tick run as root and run on boot and run it. Thats all. Dont need to type anything.
I tried it, it's working. Thanks for the mod
I'm curious about one thing regarding this mod.
Would it be possible that this can hurt the battery? I mean, what happends to the battery if it gets fed with a current and voltage that is not the current and voltage it was made for? Could that damage the cells?
I'm a computer engineering student but unfortunately we do not study much electronics, perhaps someone with deep electronics and/or chemical knowledge could write something about this? Would be awesome to know more on why/why not it can/can not harm the battery.
