[Q] YouTube not playing videos on Froyo - Nook Color General

Hi !
I've installed Froyo on the micro-SD card of my Nook Color as explained in the forum and on nookdevs.com.
It works quite well, except that I'm not able to play videos on Youtube: I get a "There was a problem while playing" message each time I click a thumbnail. :-/
I've installed signed_YouTube.apk as explained below :
Code:
$ adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
$ adb push signed_YouTube.apk /system/app/YouTube.apk
Anyone here having the same problem? Any idea? TIA

Ya, I think you can only watch youtube from the browser, not natively in the application. That being said, it still doesn't play for me either and I have the signed Youtube installed as well.

A simple click on the Nookie Froyo thread would have stated that the YouTube application doesn't work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10003824&postcount=1
That being said, there was a good article in the XDA Portal about posting on the forum. You should read this http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/important-xda-announcement-regarding-new-users/
I understand that this can be confusing at times and even tedious but that is what makes the whole process fun, discovering for yourself! Good luck.

I'm back to your earlier answer. I found the following on nookdevs.com:
YouTube
Once you install your Google apps, YouTube will be installed, but not work (it force closes). Replace the /system/app/YouTube.apk with this version. Place the downloaded file in the same directory as your adb.exe
$ adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk1p2 /system
$ adb push signed_YouTube.apk /system/app/YouTube.apk
No need to reboot, it will just work.

So what?! Any chance YouTube could work on a "Froyo'ed" Nook?

I tried that and it didn't work for me. I would say Youtube is not playable as an app at this point.

JAVA app from HERO

I've just pushed new Hero Java app into my rogers build and it works fine.
What you basically need is:
Jbed.apk (install with adb install)
libjbedvm.so (adb push /system/lib) - remember to remount as RW.
I strongly suggest to run linux-swap (as it killed all my applications and hanged for some time without it).
Files taken from Drizzy's build.
I just went to getjar.com and d/l the jbed runner, installed and it worked perfectly without pushing it but I haven't found any good use for it, must java programs are worthless on our phones since they were made for regular phones and not smartphones like ours
I have a .jar file on sd, but it doesn't read. Anyone know for what OS i have to download it for (ei: motorola razr)

What is remount as RW? Just want to make sure I get this done correctly.
So I just download it and then:
adb install jbed.apk
adb remount
adb push libjbedvm.so /system/lib
adb shell reboot

Correct?

/system is originally read only, you can't write files to it. It's for protection/security reasons. Run the following command, which remounts it as RW (read-write, instead of read only).
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

Wanting to know the same thing..
You don't need to do all this, I posted before that, go to getjar.com and find the j2me runner and install, it works the same and does work on cyan's roms
Put both files on root of sdcard.. and do this on terminal
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
cp /sdcard/jbed.apk /system/app
cp /sdcard/libjbedvm.so /system/lib
reboot
Or download it from getjar.com like gridlock32404 said..
And yes it works on cyan's rooms..

Chances are you will need to run a fully compliant j2me jad or jar file. as for a jad u need to make sure the jar file has the full path or else it will fail.
java apps made specifically for Blackberries and not for universal j2me devices will not work as well as most java apps for Symbian based Nokia phones and specific Ericsson models.
Also a lot of Nokia apps will not have properly built manifests but those u can go in and correct or build yourself and repack the jar
your best option for downloads are any Motorola or Samsung since 99% of them are purely java based with the exception of the few Win Mob

As hinted at in the other thread, the solution is to delete some stuff from your /system/ directory.
I deleted about 20 ringtones I never use from /system/media/audio/ringtones and then repeated the adb push command. Worked a treat.

google maps 3.2 not 3.1.2 [faster loading]

anyways im against piracy but on another forums someone got the map apk from 2.0 built eclair. and it works. heres the link to the 2.0 built downloa it and pull it and just install on your fone.

It would make sense, 4.0.4 is on the 1.5 kernal not 1.6.

Through terminal and the general file manager way.
Code:
cp /system/app/Maps.apk /sdcard/Maps.bak
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/Maps.apk
gracias...seems a little slow on mine
Lemme take that back...locked up on first use...now working very nicely. just seems like a "pretty-fied" maps with layers...still nice though
So what is the real difference between 3.1.2 and 3.2?
It seems faster overall and includes layers so you can have multiple map modes active at the same time, ie: sat+traffic+locale.
sacrifice a few lambs and it should work fine.
Works Great on TheOfficial AOSP1.6_r1.2......
i think it only works on 1.6 only and not 1.5. its just a minor update, but ive notice gps works when on edge and 3g i get pin point acuarrcy .
its a great upgrade..
Sorry for the noob question but how do I do this through terminal?

Well if you extract the file from the Build, then get it on your sdcard... it would probably look like this:
cp /system/app/GoogleMaps.apk /sdcard/GoogleMaps.bak
mount -o rw,remount /system
cp /sdcard/Maps.apk /system/app/GoogleMaps.apk
Click to collapse
Then Remember that the GoogleMaps.bak on your sdcard, is a backup.. and to put it back if your phone cant handle it, would be:
cp /sdcard/GoogleMaps.bak /system/app/GoogleMaps.apk
give it a try and post back
Well try Adb, make sure you: mount -o rw,remount /system....

I need help about rooting

Hello everyone.
First off all i hope this post is in the right section.
Let me get this out off the way first:
Im not good at english, and im not good at cmd files and so on.
But! i can succecsfully root my phone and get the # in cmd.
The reason im rooting is becouse i want the market patch so i can see all apps.
Here is my questions:
1. Whenever i try to adb push vending......
It says "the file is read-only" i cheked its not read only
So how do i fix that?
2. In the guide to root the phone he says:
"You can do anything then! Look at /system, /data, etc etc. You're broken free, my friend"
Where can i see the /system and so on? he says look at, but where can i look at it? how can i like acces the folders?.
So on the easy way, i search a way to install the market patch.
Thank you everyone
Bump, i really hope someone will help
Anyone? please?
When you have root, you need to mount r/w partition:
- adb push tattoo-hack.ko ./data/local/bin/tattoo-hack.ko (if you haven't did it before)
- adb shell
$
- su
#
- # insmod /data/local/bin/tattoo-hack.ko
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock5 /data
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
And now you have mounted in r/w, so:
- adb push Vending-Tattoo-patched.apk /system/app/Vending.apk
p.s. ah...you can access system folders with Root Explore (it needs root)
I never had to mount anything. I did the latest root hack in the sticky at top of forum and then i installed the full market apk. Worked a treat.

Of course, it's normal
You have to write "adb push vending....." non in "adb shell" but in "adb" (open another cmd and as for example "cd c:\android\tools", then "adb push" etc.)

Am so thankfull to you guys, you really helped me alot Thank you really much!
Okay, now i get "permisson denied" when im trying to "adb push vending..."

You don't have to close the first cmd.
Try. If it doesn't work, probably there are some problems with the root procedure, in that case try that solution: Root in 1 click. It contains: root, boot.img, market (also recovery if you choose it).
Yea, i have tryed root in 1 click, but does it really include market?
Root in 1 click gives me the same error ?
Okay maybe this is alot to ask for but is there anyone out there that can make a video of it all from rooting to push market. i would be so thankfull.
And its not just for me, it would help alot out there. im so thank full

You have to repeate that every time you reboot:
- adb shell
$
- su
#
- # insmod /data/local/bin/tattoo-hack.ko
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock5 /data
- # mount -o rw,remount /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system

- adb push Vending-Tattoo-patched.apk /system/app/Vending.apk
(one time)

Inverted Google talk app?

I have read the discussions about amoled screens not using battery on pixels which are meant to be black because it simply doesn't light anything up in the case. I was wondering if its possible for someone to make a Google talk app that is black with white text. Since that's my most used app I'd be interested in seeing if it makes any battery savings.

I could have sworn that it had a black background in the Eclair days... or at least on CM5.x Eclair. I could be mistaken, though.
Its been done, along with gvoice.

Maybe you can help answer a problem I'm having, I have 2 nexus ones, one for Tmo and one for ATT. The ATT is just a backup in case I move to ATT someday, and it's like my wifi tablet lol.
Anyways, when I originally figured out how to push the talk apk to my TMo nexus one, it worked perfectly. However, when I pushed it to the ATT one, it looked like it worked fine, it showed that the 1032 kb were pushed (I'm just guessing the amount)...and I rebooted the phone...the google talk is still white :S....I did it again, and again it looked like it worked fine, but the google talk is still white! Any idea how to check to see what I'm doing wrong? The command I'm entering is fine..
The talk.apk is in my sdk tools folder..and the command I'm using is
adb push talk.apk /system/app/talk.apk
The command you're entering is wrong. Linux is case sensitive, so is Android. Copy the command I gave above EXACTLY. And you might be pushing the wrong file, since you don't have it named right.
Thanks,
I had just figured it out last night. I needed to capitalize the T in talk....however, now when I do
adb shell
cd /system/app
ls
I see in the files that there is a Talk.apk, and also a talk.apk. How do I remove the "talk.apk"?
adb pull talk.apk /c:/talk.apk ?
Pull doesn't remove, only copies to PC.
adb shell
cd /system/app
rm talk.apk
Once you execute "adb shell", you get to Linux shell. SH, specifically. Work with files and folders like you would in Linux.

Any way to install this via terminal emulator?
I am running Enom's 2.14.1, and I have apps2ext enabled...
I tried to use the command "mount -o rw, remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system"

So I'm trying to figure out how to install these without the computer. I don't have root explorer but I'm not sure how it would work considering I have apps2ext enabled.
Any suggestions?

should work

2)command: cp /sdcard/Talk_Mod.apk /system/app/Talk.apk
Thanks,

Make sure you're running compatible version. This is for Froyo, you're running CM7 - not the same Gtalk.

No, I didn't make one. Try to look for various dark CM7 themes, you'll probably find it there.

OLYFR_U4_1.5.2 Market Fix

sed -i 's!OLYFR_U4_1.5.2/1298398352!OLYFR_U4_1.2.6/1296900353!' /system/build.prop

Ahhh, you must have already run something that re-mounted it rw for you. It would have failed otherwise... You can always try to put it back, and let the market update, and then change it again to get the apps back. I seriously doubt that is what is keeping your market from updating though.

Thats exactly what I'm thinking. That doesn't have to do anything with the Market updating... Stupid market... -kicks-

should be able to reverse by switching up this part:
sed -i 's!OLYFR_U4_1.5.2/1298398352!OLYFR_U4_1.2.6/1296900353!' /system/build.prop
to:
sed -i 's!OLYFR_U4_1.2.6/1296900353!OLYFR_U4_1.5.2/1298398352!' /system/build.prop
then have the market update without a problem and then reapply the fix, though I'm sure you thought of this already XD

Yeah I tried that with no success... I wonder if it was the Gingerblur.
Works great. I was wondering where some of my apps had ran off to!
sed: write error
Hey, I was wondering if anyone here could help me.
I've reflashed from GingerBLUR 6.5, and can't seem to apply the market fix. I keep getting a write error when I apply the sed command.
You have to be rooted, and remount /system as read/write prior. The mount command right before the serd command is needed. Also, make sure your "su" command is successful. If not, the rest will not work..
