So I love froyo and for the past week that I've had it (via ota) it has been really great, but today I began having these sudden problems:
I can't install certain apps (market or sideloaded), even though I have plenty of room for them.
Random apps that are normally stable just crash out of the blue.
The phone just keeps slowing down and things are taking longer than they should for both 2.1 and 2.2.
The phone crashed today, meaning it decided to reboot on its own accord, once when I was running a few apps at once (something that I do almost every time I pick up the phone) and was switching between them, the second time was when I had some background processes and I was browsing the web.
I was just wondering if anyone else was experiencing these problems, and if you are did it just happen suddenly one day like me or was it from the beginning? I also want to know if anyone has suggestions or a diagnosis that I should consider before emailing google.
Thanks for all the help,
Liam
Try resetting the phone to Factory (Settings-Privacy). Or if you're rooted...Wipe.

Does that wipe apps, settings and all other data, and is there a way to get it all back?
Anyone heard of an issue where apps in internal storage just start fc'ing then are essentially deleted? I am running cm6 rc2 which I flashed about 6 weeks ago. I haven't had too many issues outside of the bugginess of the ads launcher which I replaced with launcher pro. This afternoon, I try to start up dogcatcher and it immediately force closes, I tried to access the podcast I was looking for through music mod and that fails as well. I thought I might need to reboot, but when I get back into the system two more apps fail as well as the original failed apps not working. Curious, I look in my application list and the apps are mostly gone except for a few apps that show the generic market app icon, which I take to mean corrupted apps. I was able to go into titanium and restore some of the apps to work again, but I have had a pop up stating mytracks has stopped working, but I haven't even started mytracks since the reboot. I guess what I am worried about is If my phone's internal storage is failing? Is it even possible? Any suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I had the same thing happen, everytime I rebooted more apps would become corrupt, I was worried that my internal storage was failing, so I wiped everything and started again from scratch, and haven't had a problem since.
When you say start from scratch are you talking about reflashing cm6? I had been holding out since I have been reading about a lot of issues with the 6 stable version.
I formatted the phone, deleting cache and dalvic cache, and then reinstalled. I was using CM6 at the time so reflashed it, did everything by the book to be sure and it has been smooth sailing since.
Only time I have ever had this issue, on the N1 or G1 was after flashing a ROM and not wiping. Sometimes I could get away with it, sometimes not. Wipe and reflash is what I would do.
Hey Thanks guys.
I went ahead and wiped everything and started fresh with cm6 stable.
I am not sure what was going on . I had done a complete wipe and install from stock to rc2 and it worked great for 4-5 weeks. The only thing I could think of was possibly an issue with K-9 mail. One of things I saw happen fairly regularly (3-4 times a week) after rc2 was installed was that K-9 would suddenly just fc. That in and of itself wasn't too weird, but every time it would fc I would get a low space notification right after, where I kew I had 40-50 mbs of space free. Memory leak or something? Dunno.
All weirdness aside, so far CM6 stable is running great...
I've seen this happen when my the /cache filesystem was full. ('App not installed' , FCs etc). Run a 'df' command in a shell to check.
Clearing the cache would be a temporary solution. Moving the /cache to the sd card using DarkTremor Apps2SD is a permanent solution.
I currently have 178 apps.
OK I thought i could start a thread with ways that we can minimize the replay of reboot or freeze problems. Just a solution till LG comes up with a magic patch!
I managed to minimize the reboots by installing Launcher Pro and by not start (after Reset) the Antivirus Crap.
Also I managed to minimize to 1 freezing per 10 charges by charging with different method. (ex. USB , Hub to PC, or other manufacturer) .
Newest CM7 is very stable, not a hiccup all day
I never got the black screen of death early on while owning my phone. It wasn't until a few days in it began happening. It got particularly bad yesterday so I reinstalled CM7 nightly and wiped my battery stats through clockwork recovery. I haven't had a blackscreen for 10 hours now.
Yesterday, did you install #15 by any chance? I found it to be really unstable, #16 is miles better.
Yea, 15 was quite unstable until I reinstalled it a 2nd time. 16 is quite stable so far. I think a general rule to follow would be to reinstall if you find it unstable. If it keeps messing up just hop back to the last stable build.
I haven't has a reboot or lock up since UNINSTALLING juice defender. If that helps
Mine started rebooting after 2 weeks. I had about 10 reboots a day.
But uninstalling juicedefender did the trick for me as well! Finally no reboots anymore!
I havent used Juice Defender, and i dont have any reboots, no lockups or anything..
I just rooted the device + used Root Explorer to remove all the bloatware

Did you rooted from day 1?
Why you didn't update to 10d?
i dont even know how to update lol
i just rooted it with 1click (link in signature) and removed all the crap
it was about a week after i got the phone i think..
without the rooting i also didnt have any reboots or whatsoever.. a little lag occasionally but thats all
after I removed all those memory management apps, task killer apps,
I have no problem again. just try it yourself.
I was advised by a friend whos been using android for a long time NOT to use TaskKiller and stuff..
By just letting all the Apps run, the system is more stable..
Just remove the unnecessary ****
I'm using the stock v10b ( v10d not available in belgium... ) and i had several freeze after using some intensive apps like games or navigation ( screen keep working but nothing respond ). The wierdest is that i can play on the app for long time and once i come back to the home, my phone freeze.
I would like to remove all the crap stuff running but i couldn't find how to uninstall permantly some apps ( like the twitter app ... ). Do i need to root it ?
About reboot. I put some video file on SD card and my phone starts rebooting. I deleted that file and everything is ok. The reboot is started by SD Media Scan. Since then(1-2 months), no reboots.
After I rooted the phone and frooze some bloatware. I didn't have any freezes or reboots at all. U use also juice defender and autokiller. So I can do two days without a charge.

I have a N6 purchased Dec 2015 new from Amazon. The only mods, if you can call it that is, I have unlocked the boot loader. I am currently running N6F26Y sideloaded via ADB.
The phone was great when I first got it but now after about a day or so of usage it becomes slow and sluggish and unresponsive I have to restart it to use it. I have done a factory reset a couple of times which gets it back to normal for a week or so and then the problem recurs. Occasionally I will delete the cache which also helps. Snapchat is one of the worse apps - crashes the phone regularly and is a very slow app.
Also the camera can get very slow often taking seconds to take one photo.
I love the phone but it's becoming unusable now. The contrast between this and a new phone (I have purchased a Moto Z) is like night and day. The Moto Z runs instantly, has no lag and is a nice phone. But what I like about the N6 is the large screen which makes it great for videos etc.
Short of perhaps flashing some custom ROM is there anything I could be doing?
I'd recommend flashing a rom like pure nexus, super stable that should fix your problem, otherwise you've done all you can and is the easiest fix

Hello,
It seems like some apps are really slowing down your phone. I use my N6 at home for web browsing mostly as I have a Pixel XL now. Just like you I love the screen size.
The camera has always been slow fore, because of the time it takes to focus...
Did you try using your phone a few days without Snapchat installed? Maybe you also have other misbehaving apps installed.
Uninstall Snapchat and other apps and start from here. Reinstall one per one with a few days interval. See if the issue still occurs.
Installing a custom ROM + kernel will likely speed up things a little bit. I second @Dugaldrob with Pure Nexus and I'd suggest ElementalX kernel on top. Running this combo on N6, N6P and Pixel XL and they work flawlessly.
I don't believe installing a custom ROM alone will fix your issue though. Stock ROM shouldn't cause the phone to slow down to the point you need to reboot to use it.
Finding the culprit will...
Good luck...

First step is to remove Snapchat. I rarely use the app and only because my daughter sends stuff on it. I am going to tell her to send me stuff via another method
If that doesn't work then it's a new ROM. I have performed ROM installs before but have never flashed a new kernel on a phone before so that will be a new experience. Hopefully I won't brick the phone

Hello,
Don't worry, it's really easy. Also, if you are lost, there must be a ton of tutorials in general section. If you are lost yet, just ask and someone will point you in the right direction...

I've been running Pure Nexus and wanted to let peeps know I put Nitrogen on and man it's so smooth, my wifi tether is back and I went to sleep last night with 50% battery still. When I installed it I opted for the nano gapps I think so like 175mb for minimal apps and maybe that's why it's running so efficient. Maybe I could have re-installed Pure Nexus with a clean install and it would have gotten better but it was a good time to try something else. Also when Nitrogen got an update I was notified just like stock and it downloaded. I didn't even know these could do that. Anyways give it a try and you might just switch back. I was looking into new phones but if it keeps working so smooth with battery longer than a day then I'm fine for now.
Snap chat is not that big of an issue. What I have found to cause the device to slow down is normally almost full device storage and a crappy cache release code in apps. Some apps don't release their cache properly. So it causes lag. This is why a reboot seems to fix it.
While a custom rom may fix this issue it is not the solution. The proper solution is to find what is causing it and fix/repair/ditch it.
Worst offenders for crappy code in my thoughts. Other will disagree with one on this list I am sure. So don't bother. I know people swear by it. It runs like crap for me at times and causes my whole device to lag until I close it out.
1 Facebook
2 FB messenger
3 Google Chrome ( don't do it lol)
4 whatsapp
5 Hangouts
Mind you this is just a list on my usage. It may very per user and even device (considering different hardware)

I can confirm this, because I've removed these apps (-whatsapp) and also decrypted the data partition...
My N6 is fast.
Maybe a lite stock ROM and an other kernel is a good start.

Currently I have FB, FB messenger, and Chrome but when I installed gapps I chose a super lite install so tons of bloat and google apps were not installed and my battery has gone way up and it's so smooth. I'm sure even when we don't use apps they're always doing something in the background. I bet you're right and a stock lite ROM would be good too with the minimal bs apps.

Thanks for the advice. Of the list of apps above I have only Chrome and Hangouts. I really can't see replacing either of them.
I also should have pointed out that the phone locks up randomly requiring a hard reset. I wonder if an errant app could cause that or I have some RAM problem. Certainly on a PC bad RAM can use in Windows a blue screen or something but perhaps Android isn't so forgiving?

I would flash TWRP, flash supersu in TWRP to root, make a complete backup in twrp, then remove whatever Google apps you're not using with a system app removal app. Getting some of that bloat off the device should help. If it's still laggy, then look into a custom ROM. I run Tesla on my Nexus 6 with none of the issues you're having. I don't decrypt it either
Running abdroid 7.1 here. I dont get any slowdowns, at leas until the battery doesnt drop below 50 and 25 percent.
Im running a custom kernel and my phone is rooted. Everything else is stock.
Can you flash a custom kernel and presumably TWRP without wiping the phone? If so then might try that before a custom ROM

Hello,
Since your bootloader is unlocked, flash TWRP and install the kernel, no problem.
Might give you a slight boost at first sight, but your device will likely slow down over time anyway...
Cheers...
I'm on 7.0 with the April SP. I have dozens of apps installed, including Hangouts. I use Firefox for browsing, I like it better than chrome (and you can install an ad blocker).
My camera slows down when the battery is under 40%, and the whole device slows dramatically, though not unusable, at or below 5%. But otherwise, no issues what so ever.
One solution that I have not seen suggested here is resetting the device and NOT taking the Google account backup of all your apps. I would suggest making a completely clean install of the factory rom you have and installing one or two apps at a time, most important to you first. And do this for a few days/weeks until you find the app that's misbehaving.
Although there are general bad players out there, this bad app could be unique to your device. Just because all devices of the same model have the same specs and components, doesn't mean that there isn't variability in parts quality.
I would do this before trying any new roms or kernels. Find the true problem first.
Good luck!
edit:
I had another idea: Go into your battery stats and network stats and storage stats and see if any app seems to be using too much of any, or all of the 3. This may get you the answer more quickly.
My UI freezes for 5 - 15 seconds, particularly when the phone regains network connectivity (reconnecting wifi or mobile network going from 0 to 1 bars). It's much improved after removing FB and Insta but. My launcher is even getting closed when the phone frequently, although the phone has ~500MB free RAM.
I dropped this poor phone one too many times, so before I replace it with another z3 compact, I'm wondering if everyone else on Marshmallow is seeing poor responsiveness as well.
I did have slow downs before but not like that,I have switched to Lineage and it works very well so I don't have any plans going back to stock Marshmallow.
yeah same here, i advice you to switch to lineage, you will feel like butter on the screen.
I don't have any lags at all, no launcher refreshes or whatever on stock MM. ( I don't use the horrible Facebook application)
Until 3 weeks ago, I used to have no lags at all on my stock Marshmallow 6.0.1 Z3C. I had uptime of 50 days and more and it didn't lag. Now, it happened twice in a row that my System RAM usage grew in last 5 days to 1,3 GB! It seems like a memory leak in kernel space. It's hard to pinpoint particular process. The phone is slow, multitasking doesn't work (reloads every app), my stock launcher redraws and the phone is unable to make/receive GSM calls - probably a symptom of low on memory state. I wonder, if it's caused by bluetooth driver, because I've transfered 100MB file on both occasions. I need more time to analyze this, this time I won't turn bluetooth on, so I can see if it is the cause.
Edit: I'm confident the cause is not bluetooth. Symptoms now appear after just 65 hours of uptime - . Now I tried to get rid of ES File Explorer, let's see what this bloatware did to system performace.
Edit 2: It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Thanks all. I was avoiding Lineage because I wanted the stock camera / DRM and their description makes it sound very unstable... "random reboots while charging", etc. I'll try it out anyway and add the stock camera back in if it runs well.

Do share the source of the issue if you find it. I'm still seeing UI lockups when the phone loses internet connectivity.

camera works like stock in lineage, don't worry about that. you can face with other small bugs but still worth to use, it is better than stock in most cases.
having the same issue since a few weeks.

Even did a factory reset, which only helped for ~2 days ...

there must be a reason that it is slow as hell in stock while it works with jet speed in lineage. something related to sony software, hardware is okay.
Wipe cache (Power and vol+ until 3 Vibrations) helped a little, but i don't put too much hope in it.
It's my gf's Phone so i kind of hesitate to install some unstable beta on it. Or is there any real stable release out there?
Sony haven't pushed out any updates for over a year, so not sure how you can blame it on MM build.
It'll be an app.
My money's on Facebook or Messanger.
No lags or slowdowns on my phone, had the same build on it for a year now.
Autoupdates turned OFF.
No Facebook/Messanger.

Last year Facbook deliberatly broke their app, made it run slow and heat your phone up, as an experiment, to see what people would do. They honestly don't give a sh*t about what you think of thier app.
Uninstall it and use your browser, see if it makes a difference.
Try SD Maid from the playstore, that does some good basic houskeeping

I read in an italian forum that it's the Google app fault, you should unistall updates and disable automatic updates until it's fixed.

It seems the problem is gone after uninstalling ES File Explorer. Before uninstalling it had data storage set to external SD card. I replaced this piece of bloatware by open-source explorer called Amaze.
Now I have an uptime of 125 hours and counting, my System RAM usage is 0.90 GB and it isn't rising to 1.3 GB as it did before. So the phone is really smooth again. When I was checking my LogCat using DDMS, there seemed to be recurring message of ES File Explorer (estrong) leaking something, I don't remember if it was a window or an activity. What a piece of chinese malware it became. Interestingly, ES File Explorer's memory footprint was low (3 processes, 10MB total user space memory), even when leaking memory and this made debugging harder. Although I killed it, when the phone had problem (1.3 GB system memory), only a reboot worked. It totally seems like a memory leak to me.
GL debugging yours.
it works good with me ..
try to make clean install
I'm not going back to this crappy app. Once, it used to be outstanding, but they probably sold the app to another company in China and from there it went downhill. A lot of popups and ads for things I don't need. Their only purpose is to make your phone slower (bloatware) and optionally, to get money from you. I like simple, minimalistic apps, which do things they are designed for and do it right. Just this Linux approach and also "less is sometimes more".
It's confirmed that ES File Explorer makes network connections to China in background, no thanks!
