Hi guys, I didn't see this asked anywhere else. If I missed it, feel free to lock or delete this post.
Rooted my Nook with AutoNooter, all has been perfect for days. Now, all of a sudden, none of my apps will rotate to landscape: Market, Gmail, built in browser, Opera, nothing. The weird thing is my homescreens will rotate (I'm using Zeam), and things like angry birds that load in landscape are fine. Any suggestions?
Have you checked your settings? There is a setting that can be toggled under display to enable auto rotation. I would give you the specifics but my NC is at home.
I saw that option in the Zeam settings, and it is enabled, that's why my homescreen still rotates. I can't find a setting that would control the apps rotation. I don't know if this is a Zeam issue, since everything on my homescreen is okay. And it happened all of a sudden, I hadn't changed any settings or fiddled with anything anywhere else. All I did yesterday was check my email and play angry birds
It should be a setting for your Nook Color not Zeam. In your apps drawer find NookColorTools. Then look for a display setting.
Okay, here is another stupid question... when I go into my nook color tools, my "back" and "menu" buttons dissappear from the bottom of my screen, so how do I back out of a menu? The only thing I can do is hit my n button to go back to the home screen, and when I go BACK into nook color tools, it is still in the same menu I was at before. I can't find a way to get to the main color tools menu. I've killed all my running apps, and color tools still wont go back to it's main menu. Shutting the nook off works, but that's a pain in the butt. I don't want to remap my volume buttons, because I use them all the time. Is that my only option? I don't have this problem with any other app, just nook color tools.
Thanks guys!
Edit: Found the setting in Color tools, so that problem is fixed. I don't know how that setting got "unchecked" I haven't been in the settings recently???? oh well, it's fixed.
...but I still don't know how to back out of a menu in nook color tools without shutting down the device.

You can go back a screen anywhere as long as you can see the black bar on the bottom of the screen. All you have to do is swipe your finger from right to left and it will go back. You can also get Button Savior or SoftKeys from the market and they will allow you to have buttons display over the top on the screen so they are always there
Thanks! I forgot about the swipe feature. I have softkeys but i don't like the additional buttons hovering. I just use the back and menu buttons on my status bar and have my n button programmed to go to my launchers homescreen. Nice and clean and simple. Just the way i like it
Thanks again everyone!!

All of a sudden, (perhaps due to an update of softkeys?), when I reboot, I get the swipe screen OK, then swipe in and am sitting at a black screen with SoftKeys running, and the words "Recent Tasks" on the screen - with nothing actually showing. The only way around this is to go into the Nook "Extras" apps drawer and select Zeam, my launcher of choice. Up until yesterday, I would have to just hit the Nook hard button after a reboot/swipe to get into Zeam.
How can I tell the Nook to go straight into Zeam on a reboot, and not SoftKeys? I have a single press of the Nook hard key set to go to SoftKeys, so I can get to a Back button when I need it, or use it as a Task Switcher.
Thanks for any help!! I think I've tried every setting here.
It was a bug in version 3. Get the latest from the market.

I have the latest: 3.06. We're talking about SoftKeys, right?
Thats strange, I was talking about SoftKeys. The developer mention that it was a bug in a previous version but 3.06 should work just fine for you. Try uninstalling it and putting it back on. Make sure to set your default lancher in the SoftKeys settings, it is under virtual home button, normal press.

No good. I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same issue. Im giving this to my 75 yr old Mom, so i really hope to fix this before i do. Thanks
I assume you don't have Softkeys calling itself as the launcher in its prefs, right?
I haven't noticed this myself, but then again, mine hasn't rebooted in 4 days.

Not sure what you mean here. In SoftKeys prefs... I see a Tools menu which pops up Settings... is that what you mean? There's nowhere in there to specify SoftKeys as the default Launcher. I do, however, have SoftKeys as the Default Launcher in NookColor Tools... When I change it to Zeam or Home, then SoftKeys doesn't work at all, like when I press the Nook button.

OK, I fixed it, sort of. Got it back to what it was doing before - which is still a bug, but when you hit the Recent Activity on a black screen thing, you just hit the Nook Home button and it will get you into Zeam. Still a bug, but the workaround is less painful for Mom.
I'm an amateur at all this I've managed to get my nook color rooted, and I've installed a few apps. I've tried softkeys, but I'm not 100% happy with the result. First it wouldn't start on its own after a reboot. I reconfigured it following some directions form another user, and it starts now, but it's still too "busy", with bars and buttons popping up all over.
ALL I WANT is an app or some way to configure a "back" button and "menu" button in the lower black bar where the clock, bettery meter, etc are? Any ideas?
Either that, or is there a way to turn off ALL THE OTHER FUNCTIONS AND DISPLAYS of softkeys EXCEPT the ability to go "back" when pressing the physical "N"/home button, which is how I have it now.
In the end, I don't want any "back" or "menu" buttons on the actual viewable screen except the lower black bar.
THANKS a million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
not quite what you asked for but i remapped my volume keys for menu and back. works great for my needs. i control volume with a widget now.

Well, if all you want is a back button on the notification bar..... you have one. Not talking about the back button that appears on there either. Just swipe left on the notification bar and it should always work as a back button.
Other than that, there's an app you can try called Button Savior you can get from the Market. It has a small launcher button that appears on the edge of the screen. You can move it around a limited range as you see fit. It's not as complicated or as "busy" as Softkeys.
If you find the visible button not to your liking, you can try this modded version of Button Savior. The button is invisible. You can see where the button actually lies by switching to the Sense UI theme. Then back to the default or Froyo theme to make it invisible once more. The modded version of Button Savior can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=897253
I suggest you try the Market version of Button Savior first.
I'm going to second Button Savior. It hasn't let me down once

You don't have Softkeys set up properly..

I understand what you are looking for. I would like the same thing, but I do not believe there is anything out there for us..
I may end up remapping the volume keys myself.

With SoftKeys you can put the menu and back buttons in the notification area, since ver. 1.0.8 I believe. Then, disable the popper, and you are good to go.
Hi folks. I have CM7 running off an SD card in my nook. I turned it on right now and for some reason the App menu icon in the launcher bar at the bottom of the screen now opens a different app (Gmail). For the life of me I cant figure out how to put it back to normal so that I can open my apps by pressing that button. Can anyone help me with this?
**Edit**
Forget it. I just figured it out. Guess its just too early and was seeing an option right under my nose.
Out of nowhere my three dots in Google Play have disappeared and I'm unable to pull up the menu/settings. All I have in the top corner is the search funtion. How do I retrieve this? I use LMT instead of the stock bars for navigation. I even tried freezing 'Soft Key Bar' in apps. Rebooted, and no change. Any help would be kindly appreciated.

It depends on how you set up LMT. Did you assign a menu option to your pie? The three dots on the pie was mine and I used that to access menu options inside of apps
Thanks for the quick response. I've setup my pie with the home, back, menu (which I thought would access all menus within all apps) and OpenNotificationBar. Is there another menu command within LMT that I'm missing?
Lower your dpi in the build.prop
Open build.prop file and edit this line only.
ro.sf.lcd_density=240 <--------Set this value to 180. Back out of build.prop, save when asked. Reboot. Check.

I'm a little hesitant about editing the build.prop. Is there another way? What about re-installing the Play Store?
If you are hesitant about it that's ok. I don't know any other way. But the edit is harmless, I promise. You just have to be careful that you don't accidentally edit anything else.
You will notice that the lock screen is different.... but that's OK. You can download 2 apps to have a custom lock screen like widget locker or magic locker. I'll post links if you so desire.
If you want to skip my advice all together... well that's your prerogative. But you may be waiting a while for another fix.
Here's 2 pictures showing the difference. The top is with dpi of 240. The bottom is dpi 180. With mainkeys =1
****UPDATE****
This is with
A) softbar.apk removed from /system/app,
B) qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
C) dpi set at 180.
Perfect.
I should mention that I have go keyboard installed and xSettings installed with stock locker option disabled. With widget locker installed. And LMT soft keys installed.

I tried both, widget locker and magic locker, neither seemed to work for me after changing my DPI. Any suggestions?

Oddly enough, I have an app called Fullscreen Toggle that I installed to take away the soft key bar, which has been working just fine. In this app, I decided to try re-enabling the stock soft keys to see if it would bring back the menu button in Google Play (not sure why I thought it would, just effing around with it). Well, when I re-enabled the soft key bar in Fullscreen Toggle it didn't bring the soft keys back up, but I DID get my menu button in Google Play back along with other menu buttons in other apps! Weirdness..

Yes, several times. I'd forgotten that I also froze the system app 'Soft Key Bar'. I'm assuming that's why it didn't come back up. Not sure why enabling that in Fullscreen Toggle brought back the app menus though. Either way, it's doing what I want it to do now.
Thank god for this forum or I wouldn't be attempting any of this crap, lol.

A tad, yes. Is there any way to fix that and still keep my Google Play menu? Here you go:

Had this problem but found a setting
I had this problem in a rom I was using and tried all kinds of dpi settings without any luck getting the menu drop-down for the playstore settings. Then while I was in the interface settings of the rom control, there was a setting called "Statusbar Behavior" and that was turned off, and when turned on, the three dots that allow menu settings was available. This is late for this case, but I wanted to share so if others down the road had a similar problem and came across this thread as I did trying to resolve this kind of issue it would give another option to check. Hope this helps.
I recently rooted my NST with NookManager, and was looking to run a "stealth" root under stock. I used the Nook Touch Mod Manager to change the LONG PRESS on the 'n' button to launch THIS. After some fiddling with the options, it pops up a single 5 x 8 grid of apps on a white background with black text. You can long press on an app to hide it. Simple and fast.
I'll be happy to post a screenshot if I can figure out how to take one! :cyclops:
This is the best app for a rooted NSTG No need to fiddle with different launchers, it just works as an extension to the B&N homescreen. Thanks for the tip!

Pardon my ignorance, but how exactly do you 'fiddle with the options'? The app opens in fullscreen mode, and i can't find the way to get the status bar to show up, tried everything...
my nook simple touch rooted with nook manager, so relaunch is the shell(or whatever it's called) from which i run app drawer...
Thanks!

I had this issue with another app and here is what I did:
Temporarily assign the "Menu" function to one of the hardware keys using NookTouchModManager (unless you have it set up that way already for other purposes--I keep a long-press on one button this way just in case).
When you launch your app you will now have a way to access menu functions even though it is running full-screen. In my case I was able to change the settings on my app so it would *not* run full-screen by default, but that is probably not what you want in this instance. After you have made your adjustments, you can change the hardware key back to its default, although I think keeping both a "Back" and "Menu" option around is not a bad idea.
VERY late reply...
I use an app called Button Savior which lets you add a set of software buttons which expand or collapse when you touch an assigned target point on your screen. (I have mine set to a long press in the lower left corner, and since I bought the pro version I can customize my target to be invisible.) That way I can always get to a menu button if I need one.
Don't have my NST with me, so I can't tall you what version I'm running, but I'm pretty sure it's the current version on Google Play.
I came across this old post and thought I'd look up the app to see what it was like. I've attached a copy below.
This is not actually a "launcher" despite what the thread title says. It is plain-and-simple an App Drawer. But as the OP said, it can provide almost a "stealth" modification of the NST. To me it seems ideal for the person who says "I only want to root so I can run app x--I don't want a lot of stuff on it."
There are a few hurdles to get to that point, so here is a brief outline of steps to get it working:
1. Root with NookManager (update it first if you're rooting FW 1.2.2)
2. Install the app along with a good file manager like ES File Explorer which will give you root access when you need it (ReLaunch can't).
3. Use Nook Touch Mod Manager to assign a button press (maybe a long-press?) to the MIUI app. You can use one of the hardware buttons or (less "stealth") one of the QuickNav buttons you don't use like Social, or Shop or Search.
4. Temporarily assign one of the hardware buttons to "Menu". This is needed because the MIUI app opens in full screen by default and you can't get at the settings without the Menu button.
5. Run the MIUI app and configure as you want (there is an option not to hide the status bar). Once you have the appearance you are after note that you can long-press on an app to (among other things) hide it from the drawer or even uninstall it. I suggest you uninstall ReLaunch.
6. Go back to Nook Touch Mod Manager and remove the temporary "Menu" button assignment.
And you're good! Your NST still looks and works like its old self but you're one button-press away from accessing any apps you may want to install. And you have a decent file manager
