Hey guys I just flashed Darky's Rom v8.1 on my Samsung Captivate and i really like it but I have two problems. The first one is an auto rotation opposite rotation problem. The screen auto rotates the 90 degrees the wrong way so if i hold it vertically, the screen is horizontal. I calibrated the horizontal axis but it didnt work. The only solution I have found is to turn off auto rotation but then i cant use the qwerty keyboard when emailing or texting. My second problem is that when i download apps it restarts into the Darky's rom screen and reboots back to the home screen with the app no where to be found. Is there anyway you guys can solve one or both of my problems, or even suggest a better rom because im up it P.S. please keep in mind this is my first android phone and Im more or less a noob with this phone (not technology but just the phone)
Sounds like a bad flash.
You can, reflash the rom
Our try a different one
What kernel are you using?
I have not used darkeys but this is not a common issue with the rom

The problem you have with autorotation is because you loaded Darkyys ROM from the I9000 forums. To resolve this issue, use a captivate Kernel. Use the K12O kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893880
Flash it in CWM Recovery.
Hopefully your second problem gets resolved after resolving the first issue. I have Darkyys 8 and using it with the SpeedMod kernel, without any issue..
@rickysa2000 your kernal worked amazing and my phone is mega fast and the auto rotation is back to normal but I still can't download an app successfully. Since i downloaded the kernal, half the time the download is successful and installs and half the time it goes back to the Darky's screen but for both, the app still isn't on my menu. Maybe I'm just being dumb and it's right under my nose, but either way I still cant find it!
Try this
Go to settings
Applications
Manage
market
Clear data
I tried it and it didnt work. I also tried to download other apps besides quadrant standard and that sent it into the darky's screen as well. Any other suggestions? Is there a place where I can see my downloads besides the pull down menu (which doesn't show it) to see if it got downloaded to some obscure place?
Just an idea, but why not download gaskets from the captivate section, and flash it again. I have never encountered your issue but if I did I would either reflash, or flash stock then reflash
Try flashing ytt3r's Captivate port, as he mentioned fixing several bugs present in the I9000 version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10133066&postcount=1
(it's the big "DOWNLOAD HERE" link)
Thanks everyone! I'm downloading the newest Darky rom from ytt3r but for the mean time I just flashed phoenix which works great. But as I was flashing it, I noticed a nice scratch. AHHHH

Hello everybody,
I've searched around this and other fora for my problem, but I found nothing. I bought my SGS about 2 months ago. It came with Android 2.1 installed and, through Kies, I updated it to 2.2 Froyo. After that, I decided to flash Darky's 9.2, as I heard a lot of good things about it.
After flashing everything was fine for a couple of days, 'till I started installing some camera-based apps, like Barcode Scanner and Google Goggles: I used them about three times, then they started force closing (Google Goggles) or showing a black screen instead of the camera view (Barcode Scanner). The situation grew worst and worst as my camera app started giving me a "Warning - Camera Failed" as soon as i switched to video mode. I read on Android Forums this problem could be caused by some of those camera-using apps, so I uninstalled both Barcode Scanner and Google Goggles, but nothing changed.
Other listed solutions were to disable lagfixes, change ROM/firmware, reset the phone, but none of this helped.
After experiencing those problem with Darky's 9.2, I upgraded to the new Darky's 9.3, but I still experienced the same damned issue. Thinking of some software issue with Darky's, I formatted the phone, disabled any lagfix I had and tried to flash Jimmy's/Hamster's v6.3. Well it's blazing fast, but I still have a similar problem: both camera and video mode work flawlessly, but both Barcode Scanner and Google Goggles force close, while Layar reports it is "unable to access camera hardware".
And now here I am, asking for your help. Thanks in advance.
Loads of posts on this subject on Darky posts suggest one you search them two you delete the rom and go back to stock .Then use another custom rom of your choice .

Thank you for your post, but, as I stated, I've already searched for my problem and no solution worked. Also, I've already flashed to another ROM (Darky's-> Hamster's).
I also have the problem with camera. Try to find the newest firmware and update it, maybe that will solve the problem.
When i updated fw, camera worked fine for a couple of hours, and then, iI don't know how, phone automatically switched to my old fw (about 1-2 hours after rebooting).
Then I have to restart the phone and camera works fine again with new fw.
It's so annoying, but i don't have the complete solution yet. Btw, i'm on Darkys 9.6.6.
Sounds like you're missing the stock email.apk

Opened home switcher app. Set homeswitcher to ‘Launcher’
Checked camera. Pressed home key and phone went back to original setup wizard screen, the one you see when you wipe your phone. I continued to press next to get through the sequence. Home screen switched back to ‘TwLauncher’ appeared to be the only change.
Pressed home button. Ticked box to set default. Selected ‘Launcher’
Tested camera again. I pressed the home key to get out of the app and the home switcher option came up again. Once again, selected to tick box to set the action as a default and picked ‘Launcher’.
Tested camera again. The home button properly went to the default this time.
The Places app does not launch.
Modified some settings inside Spare Parts app. Animation and wifi sleep policy.
Changed faster fix app to show China.
Opened Gmail app, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message. Force close.
Tried to respond to an SMS message, rec’d ‘stopped unexpectedly’ message when I tapped the box to bring up the keyboard. Force close.
Opened Messaging app and tried again to respond to SMS message with same result.
Went to settings, modified input method to ‘Touch Input Chinese’, the device shutdown immediately.
Restarted phone. Unlocked screen and rec’d message ‘Process system is not responding’. It stayed there momentarily and then did a very quick reboot. I unlocked the screen and rec’d the same message.
I selected force close. The home screen was black with no wifi or phone service. Touching the applications button opened the list of app icons but the phone eventually the device did its very quick reboot.
I held the power button down for several seconds to force the device to turn off. I pressed the power button in hopes of it starting up normally… with the exception of having no phone service, it did seem to start normally.

Flashed stock ROM and returned to starting point noted at beginning of the post.
Please forgive the post above if you find it offensively long. I have spent the past week reading anything I can as it relates to Darky’s ROM and can’t find anything that seems to relate to the problems I am finding. Admittedly, I am a n00b and this is my very first experience with custom ROM in the android OS. (I made the switch from iOS a month or so ago where the game of JB and unlocks became to frustrating.)
I have installed Darky’s ROM many times over the past week and cannot get anywhere near what I consider a stable platform. Events such as ‘force close’ and system reboots are so frequent, surely that can’t be the norm. Is this to be expected?
From the description in the post above, have I done something wrong? It seems like the most frequent response and solution is to flash the ROM again. I have done that and never seem to get the same response.
I realize this is a custom ROM. I just don’t hear others mentioning the issues I have described so I am guessing they don’t exist for anyone else.
You should tell Darky .
Majority of helps posted on this forum are for Darky roms fact not fiction .

Possibly if you hang around a bit someone may come up with an answer .
Not an answer but you can build your own rom .

This is not an answer, but for me Darky's ROM v9.5 wasn't stable either. It just stopped working every few hours, just turned off my phone without notice etc.
I'm not sure what the problems was but I think there are some unresolved issues with v9.5.
After flashing stock JVK + darky10kernel + Darky's ROM v10.0 RC3, all my problems were gone tho and my phone has never been smoother. But v9.5.. I just don't know.

quite weird how so many people say 9.5 is good, and so many other people say 9.5 is bad
i upgraded to 9.5 from 9.2 about 4 hours ago and so far it seems fine
I did a no-wipe upgrade and am using dark core kernel 1.0 that came with the mod itself
not switching to 10.0 because it requires a wipe cant be bothered till 2.3 goes official
Try flashing kernel 1.2 darkcore
9.5 not rock solid, but not that bad either
I'm running 9.5 for a couple of days now, and although I ran into some minor problems, I cannot say it is that bad. It hang once, sometimes I have a small problem installing apps from the Market, but apart from that, it's OK. I think 9.3 had less problems, so if you want to go for a more stable Darky's ROM, go for 9.3. Or wait until 10 is official released.
Go through resurection
One more tip: I noticed you started from a non-Darky ROM. What you can do (and it's what I did) is install the Resurection edition of Darky's ROM. It's essentially the 9.2 version and you can flash it with Odin. After doing that, you can be sure to have a clean Darky environment. You can even see how that one works, I know a few colleagues who are still on 9.2 and fully happy with that. But if you want to upgrade, it's much easier from there. Just use Darky's configurator after you copied the ZIP file to you SD card. It's easy, and like I said, for me it is pretty stable!
Flash 9.3 first then flash over that with 9.5. I have used a lot of Darky's roms and never once had any major issues with them. 9.5 is a good rom

I want to go backwards (I am on 9.5 and battery life sucks).
How do I go from 9.5 to 9.4? Can I just download 9.4 and use the Darky's Rom Configurator and install it the same way I went from 9.4. to 9.5?
9.4 was deprecated due to heavy issues. The previous stable one is 9.3. You can install it with Darky's configurator, indeed.
Bugs will be fixed step by step ....
But I prefer Ultimate v8.2 with Tegrak Kernel ...
Hello.
Im having the weirdest problem and i am going insane.
In Gingerbread roms, stock or custom (darky rc3,rc4,CriskeloRom) when i try to make a call or when i receive a call, the screen turns immediately black and never ever wakes up.
No button works, nore do they lit,nothing...
I have to pull out the battery and restart.
Some times when i plug the cable in kies mode, its ok,it comes back the screen but thats seldom.
I tried to keep the screen on,nothing...
This happens only in gingerbread,if i return to froyo, everything is ok.
PLEASE HELP ME
Wait for official Gingerbread .

You could try installing the official (NEE) Gingerbread.
Or flash back to 2.2 and forward from there.
thanx guys but did that too...
i installed official ginger xee and the same thing...in froyo everything works ok.
insane!!!!
Sucks to hear Hope it will be ok when the official Gingerbread gets released for your country. Allthough that probably wont work either.
ps. how do you update from Froyo to Gingerbread? Odin? Maybe try updating from Froyo with KIES using the registry spoofing tool and then installing NEE.

No such issues for me, had stock JVK now on stock JVB. Remove any lag fixes and do a factory reset + Format SD card and try.

No question is too noobish, but please look/search for your answer first so that the same questions do not become redundant.
We need your info in order to help you. Please make sure to included the version of the rom you are using, modem, kernel, ext...
Also please give it some time for your question to be answered, believe it or not, we do not live here.

Just flashed his new GR9 and i'm curious to know, when locking the phone (tapping power button once) is the screen supposed to have a white flash-like shut off? sort of like powering of an oldschool TV. Not that big of a deal, but can get annoying.
Any good reason why the stock sms will not send txt? downloaded handcent sms and it will send just fine. but not both receive incoming, is there a way to fix this or to disable the stock sms?

That is a gingerbread thing. If you dont like it turn off animations in the display setting or use spare parts and set them to fast, that will disable that animation but increase the speed of the others.

Did you unzip the 7Z file? You'll see them then. It includes Odin 1.7 too.
Quick Question Regarding 3 Button Fix
Hey all. Getting ready to flash this Awesome new ROM from Serendipity 6.4. My question is do I need the 3 Button Fix working before I flash this? My phone lost that ability and was wondering if I should:
1)Return to stock using ODIN w/3 button fix
2)Reflash over that with ODINoneclick (saw that this might be required for GB roms)
3)Then Follow Mikey's instructions
Any input or advice is greatly appreciated!
If you use one click after the 3 button fix you'll probably lose the combo ... Just use the 3 button combo fix. You'll be on stock from there you can proceed to gingerbread.
DO NOT use that to get to stock from gingerbread!! Use one click for that.
gr 10 running now

I am wondering if anyone is having a reboot issue. My phone after installing this ROM reboots after sitting idle for any length of time... battery is at 93% (battery life is fantastic with this ROM). This is on GR 11, all flashed according to unstructions and working properly. I thought this may have been due to flashing Talon and converting to EXT4. However I re-did the installation from stock, and am still having the issue.
Anyone else having the same issue?
my galaxy s3 lte sometimes the screen freezes and it is unresponsive to touch. As soon as I turn the screen off and back on with the lock button then it works fine. It does it randomly, for instance when somebody calls I can't answer it sometimes I have to hurry up and turn the screen off and back on so I can swipe to answer. Also when I'm playing games is the same. Everything solves when turn off and then on screen
Thanks for tips
