I've managed to get the icons into vending.apk and it worked the first time I tried it, but I updated to perception 10.2 (from perception 10, everything was stock perception 10.2 after I flashed it) and now every time I try to replace it, nothing is different. I'm changing the notification icons for updates and installed with the ones from classical gas's GB theme for his desire ROM. Anyone know what the problem is?
EDIT: Nevermind, I found the problem. When I first opened the market, com.android.vending-1.apk was put into /data/app. I edited the images there and everything's working fine now.

I have searched everywhere and tried everything to get Spare parts to work on stock froyo rom. I've extracted the .apk from other roms with no luck, then I figured I would extract the .apk from a froyo built rom, and that didn't work. All I want to do is customize my status (notification) bar. Does anyone know if this is even possible or is their a different program I can use? I used to have it on CM 5.0.7.1 and it worked great.
Thanks
Anyone? I just need to be pointed in the right direction. Can someone explain why the spare parts apk in CM 5.0.7.1 can change notification bar, but when you use the same apk on a different rom it installs and displays, but doesn't work. Does it have something to do with the framework?
I'm posting here because I don't know what else to do, my phone freezes using any froyo rom. It happens randomly and sometimes will not happen until I reboot the phone, but it makes my phone pretty much unusable. I've tried the leaked froyo rom, BB, CM 6 1&2 and countless others. I've tried wiping data / cache and formating the SD card (worked until i put my music back on), and I'm about to just try stock 2.2 and exchange it for a new one if it wont work.
Anyone else have this problem that could help me?
One thing I didn't see you do...
Have you at all root your phone to install the desired froyo rom for your phone?
Yes I am rooted, I'm currently on CM 5.0.8 and very happy but I would really like to get froyo working.
Alright. This is what I've done to get Froyo working on my Droid: I rooted my phone, downloaded BB v4 and changed the name of the file to update, installed Rom Manager on my phone(then found out I can download the roms from here as well), reboot into recovery through rom manager, wiped data & cache, selected install zip, then selected reboot phone. It took a bit to register but it converted over with BB v4.
I think I've found my problem
droidforums.net/forum/tech-issues-bug-reports-suggestions/67526-music-sd-card-causes-bb-4-freeze.html
this sounds like my exact problem, I'm going to look through my library and see if there is a corrupt file then try again
Hopefully that is the source of the issue and that'll be solved quickly. Good luck to ya
Ok so this problem has just happens to me for the first time and it is ticking the hell out of me. I flashed cm6.1 rc1 first day of its release, everything working fine. Went back to cm6 final for awhile, everything working good as well. Got tired went back to cm6.1 rc1 full wipe. And whenever i try install HTC_ime mod via astro or root explorer and set the keyboard via setting>keyboard and languages>check mark, and select input method nothing pops up. Went back to astro, launched it from there and a message pops up tell me activity not found eventhough the app is installed. Mind you though I have also tried installing rori's smoke adw. Restoring apps via a backup can cause huge problems. the best advice I can give you it to install the apk from scratch. Also for keyboards to remain as your "default", it must be installed on your internal memory
i am getting a similar thing.
i have installed swype (internal memory) it is ticked in keyboard settings but when i select input method to change keyboards nothing happens
CM6.1 RC1
EDIT bit more research found this: http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/8900-cannot-switch-input-method-cm-61-rc1-to-swift-key/
So I have my nookcolor set up just the way I like it with CM7 7.0.2 and D's OC kernal.
It occurred to me that one of my favorite pastimes before I flashed CM7 was to play the original Crosswords that shipped with the nook. Short of reflashing back to stock, and risking an unintended (and unwanted) 'upgrade', and pulling the apk from that image, I no longer have the crosswords apk that shipped with the nookcolor.
Does anyone have that apk or a link to the file so I could put it on my nook? I've tried the other crosswords from the market, the B&N was the favorite.
Thanks
EDIT:
That's a big never mind. Found them in the right sub forum. duh.
1 can of egg remover, please.
looking for the same thing
hello, i'm looking for the same thing. I even tried to pull the original apk off of my nook color prior to rooting it and installing CM7 on it. But everytime I try to run the crossword apk it gives me an error. I'll let you know if I can figure this out.

Do you have a link to it? I'm kind of interested now. I searched in the Apps sub-forum but it didn't return anything.

How are you "installing" it?
You all know many of the original apps were customized for the stock Nook ROM....
I run it fine under CM7. I just grabbed the .apk from the stock ROM and installed it under CM7 a long time ago. Ever since then it just comes back from my Titanium Backup restore when I switch/upgrade ROMs. I don't feel comfortable posting the .apk here for legal reasons, but I did want to chime in that it works fine under CM7 and MIUI.
Shortyz crosswords is a great market alternative. It automatically downloads several national crosswords every day.
Using 7-zip, you can extract the crossword apk from one of the the original roms, and like the prev poster said, it installs and runs perfectly on cm7.

I downloaded the app, put it in my dropbox and downloaded it to the NC, then installed it.
got it
Thanks for the great replies everyone. I ended up going back to the stock ROM and then used the ManualNooter to root my device. Now I have both the capabilities of CM7 and the stock Nook Apps as well.
I still also have all my shelves and original ebooks installed and have access to everything on the market as well.
Thanks to GabrialDestruir for the great walkthrough

got it
i ended up going back to a CM7 to test this out. And after pulling the original Crossword.apk from the stock 1.3 ROM I was able to get it installed and running with no problems.
However, now that I have the latest nightly build of 214. http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=encore&type=nightly
I am having boatloads of force close errors. Mainly on startup I am getting force closes on the google apps (gapps), google framework, and one of the apps i installed from the market as well. I am also unable to run the Facebook for Android app. I tried re-running the Set Permissions, and tried to clear the Davlik Cache as well.
Should I try one of the stable builds to fix these issues?
CM7.1 is out now try that

Hello Everyone!
I just yesterday took the plunge and upgraded my stock i897 Captivate from 2.3.5 to CM10.1; what a fantastic decision that was. I actually don't hate my phone anymore! Everything went smoothly for the most part, even restoring previous data. Much love for all the developers!
There's just one thing bothering me now.. for reasons I can not discover after scouring the web and this forum, I can not change my background to a static wallpaper. I can apply Live Wallpapers without a problem, but I can not apply an image from the gallery or even the wallpapers CM comes with.
When I try and apply a wallpaper from let's say, the gallery, it will bring up the cropping tool and after clicking ok will display "Setting wallpaper..." but it never does. The background remains black.
Perhaps its a permissions issue? I'm kind of new at this, so I don't even know where the wallpaper folders would be located.
Here's my phone specs:
Phone model: SGH-i897
Radio (baseband): i9000ugkg3
CM version: 10.1-20130129-Nightly-captivatemtd
Gapps version: latest as of Jan 29
Build Date: Monday, Jan 28
Thanks in advance for all your help

I just did a complete wipe and flashed the same nightly that you're using. Once I was up and running I didn't have any trouble setting my own photos or the CM wallpapers. At least on my end it works without issue on a clean flash. That being said the only thing you've done that I can see causing problems is when you restored your data. Something could have been restored that's causing issues with the gallery/wallpaper apps. I would suggest doing a full wipe and reflashing your rom to see if that doesn't correct the issue. Also there are two more nightlies that have been released since you flashed so you might look into one of them.

Hey M1Batt, thanks for the reply!
Funny thing, after flashing and the phone rebooted it was using the wallpaper from my stock 2.3.5. It wasn't until after I tried to change it that the background went all black and wouldn't change to anything besides live wallpapers. This was after I restored most of my apps, contacts, sms, etc. It could have very well had to do with that.
I think I'll try and flash the latest nightly when I'm back on wifi tonight and see if that helps. If not.. well I'm not entirely happy with my folder structure anyway, so I guess I'll wipe and start from scratch again.
