[Q] Theming? - HTC Aria Themes and Apps

Ive had my Aria for months but just switched to the cm7 ROM(Ive been running FR008 for a while and I know its not themable) and I was wondering how I could change the icons and colors of my status bar. I saw this picture with a blue status bar and thought it looked really nice. So can anyone help me get started? Thanks in advance.

In CM6 you used to be able to customize through the ROM. Since that hasn't been added [yet] to CM7, you'll probably have to pull your framework-res.apk from /system/framework (or use root explorer to copy it to your SD card and then email it to yourself or use some other method to get it to your computer). Once you get it on the computer you'll need to extract the files with WinRAR or some other alternative and then go into the folders and edit what you want with your image manipulation program of choice. After that, zip it back up (as a .APK) then make a flashable zip, copy it to your phone and flash it with clockwork.
This is all speculation (because it's with CM7) and may not work, so as always, do not forget to make an android back up.

ThemePro is a great little tool that can help you pull files, has some basic ADB commands, and other theming stuff. It is really great--I have been using it for awhile now:

i am just that good. i saw this thread a minute ago and already have the file for you uploaded and everything.
http://www.4shared.com/file/132234151/543640f1/blackbar_signed.html
its a small file because all it is framework-res.apk (that has the black statusbar_background.png and the statusbar.xml with white notification text) and services.jar which has the classes.dex file that has be changed so that the clock and date will be white.

it was based off of the 4.0.4 template and has a services.jar not compatible with the one for stericsons lockscreen, so no it won't. sorry when cyanogen releases a stable version if you would like this i will do one for you then, just pm me when the time comes around and i will make you one
i need to test out the new colorChanger.jar anyways so i can go ahead and make one real quick for 4.1.11.1 give me about 10 minutes or so and i will have a link
and here is one for 4.1.11.1 with the status bar inverted so it should retain the curved look from the donut one.
http://www.4shared.com/file/134673715/a3acd40b/blackbar41111-new.html
i know there are people using this (its kind of obvious with my 4shared account showing how many times it gets downloaded), so my question is should i start a thread like this that has black status bars for people that want them? that way those that do want a black status bar know where to look to find it? if so, let me know and i will, its not like it takes any sort of time to make one. like 10 minutes at the most.
i can make them for well any rom (i think, not tested on rogers but i could try) just give me your rom (with a link to it would be nice) and i will see what i can make happen
Thanks a lot for this. I have been wanting this for quite some time, but kept telling myself I should just learn how to sign the zip on Linux and do it myself.
I was excited for this, but had some real issues. Number one, it will overwrite Stericsson's lock screen (makes sense since we replace the framework-res.apk and services.jar). Secondly, each time I use this, even after a fresh wipe and install, gmail force closes (and yes, I have tried fix_permissions).

I'll look into stericson's lockscreen when i get home from work tonight ,and i don't know why it would mess up gmail since it doesn't touch the .apk. i will look into this and see if i can get gmail to force close.

Thank you very much. I was very confused why Gmail would close myself. I tried many combinations of wiping and flashing, but each time my gmail would force close.
I tried this on 4.2.11.1 and I ended up doing a backup recovery. I would really like to have a black notification bar. Please help me in achieving this goal...

[ICON THEME] Coloured status bar icons

Well I never thought I would find myself contributing anything to XDA-Dev but I liked these icons so much I decided to share!
These icons are either hand made by myself, or edited from various sources. They feature a transparent background, so they should work well with most statusbar's out there. I am currently working on finishing the blue style icons across the board, and perhaps the purple as well (like the battery).
I have tested these on VanillaEclaire 4 and FroydVillan 1.1, and these work without MetaMorph etc etc.
These are fairly simple to install:
- Pull your framework-res.apk (should be in /system/framework) to the folder of your choice.
- Open framework-res.apk with WinRAR or 7zip and navigate to res\drawable-mdpi (some may be called drawable-hdpi). Just find the .png files that match the ones in my zip files.
- Drag your favourite .png files into the WinRAR/7zip window and click OK to save
- Push updated framework-res.apk to your device and reboot. (adb remount, then, adb push ..., adb reboot)
- If you wish to include the gmail, email, or sms icons like in the screenshot, please also update gmail.apk, email.apk, mms.apk as appropriate!
Update: Pictures! Tons more icons!
Update 2: Vending.apk icons (Market download notifications) See post
Mass spam of the icons, pick and choose!
Disclaimer:
Please update the filenames of the .png's as appropriate. I have created/included several copies that can be used as you please, so the names don't always match the .apk files.
Please make backups before pushing to /system
I have read posts on this forum regarding editing .apk files and the need to re-sign them, or issues with endless reboots after editing .apk files. I used WinRAR and did not create a new framework file, only edited it. I have had 0 issues.
Mega pack attachment below contains all icons from the other 3 zip files!
Update: Pink/Purple pack!
Reserved.
Hopefully I can upload pictures now.

Hi Jen, sorry was this when you were pushing or pulling the file? Rebooting?
I use a vanilla rom, and the location of framework-res.apk is exactly where you mentioned. I use a program called "ADB File Explorer" to find things on my device.

I haven't tried it since I last posted, just don't have the time at the momment i'll give it another try tomorrow..But im really excited on getting this to work <3 i've been looking for something like this for the longest.
Ok sounds good! If it keeps failing to push, try ADB file explorer:

Jen, you're not repacking the apk are you? Just need to update, If you look at my sig i've made a video on how to update images on the phone, might help =o)
SpeeDemon, I really like your battery icons, would it be ok to use them on my next video? I'm making a video on how to change the look of the battery status bar icon and rather than making crappy images myself would like to use your ones, I would of course give credit to you for the icons.

Hi Dennis. These icons should work with most ROM's out there available for your device, rooted or otherwise. You will need to familiarise yourself with any of the various methods of pulling framework-res.apk from your phone, and placing the .png files into their correct folder (as outlined in my first post). Then you will need to update the file on the phone with your modified .apk (Google/Android call this "push").

If root explorer can pull a copy to your SD card, you may be able to pull it and just do a normal file copy to your PC. You would then need to push it back from SD > /system using root explorer. I have never used the app before, but I just googled it now and some screenshots hint at this possibility.
I would still suggest trying to get ADB working - it is worth the hassle and much quicker than mounting/unmounting an SD card all the time!
i made it with root explorer. I made a copy from the system folder to SD card. then i sent the file via bluetooth to my pc. then i replaced some pictures and clicked OK. after this i sent the framework-res.apk back to my device. then i copied this and pasted it in System/framework and replaced the old one.
and now i cant boot anymore.
it just shows the startupshow (modified) and then there is a black screen which is illuminated a little bit..
so what can I do?
hope for a quick answer.
kind regards from sad DauL

[Q] How do you theme Captivate notification bar?

I have JI6 (unofficial froyo) version of Captivate (i897)...
I like to theme the notification bar (Transparent, icons, etc.) without any ROM.
I have tried Cognition ROM, but random shutdown was killing me...
So, anyone know how?
by SDK/ADB, root manager, metromorph, Odin, or whatever you can do - THAT WORKS!!!

It depends on what you want and where you want it. Certain changes require changes to the xml codebehind and some do not. It is not as easy as it may seem for the average user.
You have to use winrar to open the theme or rom you are using.go to the twframework-res.apk.open that DO NOT UN ZIP ANYTHING!! then look for status bar background.9 drag and drop onto desk top or folder whatever then edit in photoshop or whatever you have and put back save and put it back in the folder. If I can get by a computer today there is thread out the will tell you do to do it that is big help.I you have some problems I can do some editing for you but would have to wait until I get home I am out of town.oh and when you put the edit status backgroung.9 back into the zip file make sure it is stored and compressed

Along this same line of questioning........
All I want to do is remove the transparency from the notification drop down in my current rom / theme. Is there a single value in an xml file to adjust this feature?
It's a .png that you'll need to change the opacity of.

Thanks for the thread been looking for something like that but someone psoted somethign saying that you had to use a cpativate rom for it because the i9000 roms have different file types in them
Now there is theme kitchen, upload a apk and you can apply themes. Then after some time, you get a new apk in a cwm flashable zip.

[Q] Need to locate these files? Help please

Hi i would like some help which would be nice from any Theme Creator or Dev because they will probably know where to look.
So can anyone tell me which files need to be changed to make the volume & brightness bars in quicksettings pulldown bar to change the bar color? i have changed the color via framework, system ui or htc res, rosie, settings files but.... not sure which files i changed in what location that did that?
Also which file do i need to locate to change the button pressed on the home screen? Cause i wanna get rid of the green sense look to my phone, my phone is looking pretty modded & i know how to use Photoshop to change PNGs & know how to mod APKs too.
Any help would be great i have tried the search bar on here & also in google but didnt get any results & to be honest i know people on XDA will know this.... thanks in advance
The progress bar color in quick settings is defined by this file: common_progress_full.9.png (in SystemUI.apk/res/drawable-hdpi)
Are you using a Gingerbread 2.3.5 or Sense 3.5 rom? If yes, the button press color in the homescreens can't be changed. At the moment all available tools fail with decoding the images.
In Sense 2.1, you have to edit Rosie.apk. For Sense 3 (+ GB 2.3.3 or .4), fusion.apk has to be edited with m10 tool.
I can give you more details if you want to.
Thanks
Thanks for that but i cant locate it in my system ui/res/drawable-hdpi? i tried looking in htc/rs/draw-hdpi too? cant find that common_progress_full.9.png? could you check again for me or if have time upload the file? i cant see why it would be missing though?
I havent had a chance to mess with the m10 editor? is it easy enough to use when editing the fusion.apk?
I love XDA.... its the best for phone modding & has many helpful members

You have to load the Rosie.apk with m10 editor, then decompile the Rosie_navbar.m10 file and change the following opacity values from 1 to 0.0099999998. If you set them to 0, pressing on the buttons will have no effect.

Need Help with Editing XMLs

I've been looking around for a few hours now trying to figure out how to edit these xml files with no luck. I've found numerous tutorials but none of them seem to get me in the right direction. I can't get passed opening the files.
I've tried TextWrangler on my Mac and Notepad++ in Windows ... both give me a bunch of giberish.
I am able to see a few lines of txt like layout_height and textColor but there are no values listed to edit??? Maybe I'm looking at the wrong xml files?
Ultimately I'm trying to see if I can adjust the layout and txt color of the notification pulldown.
Any suggestions?

When you go to extract the apk, just decompile, DO NOT extract. (If using apkmanager)
Then I use Notepad++ for any changes. Just remember to not extract the apk, just decompile it, then go into the projects folder and it will be in there.

ah, I see now ... I extracted instead of decompiling. I'll give that a try.
I'm not sure which ones to edit ... I started with status_bar_expanded.xml
I want to see if I can adjust the size of the section with the toggles and change the color of the text.
Which brings up another question ... do I edit the ones in framework-res or lge-res? or both?

I believe you can actually adjust the size of that by adjusting the size of the images. Try making the images wider, and leave the height the same, and it "should" shrink the images, and in turn shrink the bar.

Then I use Notepad++ for any changes. Just remember to not extract the apk, just decompile it, then go into the projects folder and it will be in there.
What XML files are you trying to edit?

ah, I see now ... I extracted instead of decompiling. I'll give that a try.
I'm not sure which ones to edit ... I started with status_bar_expanded.xml
I want to see if I can adjust the size of the section with the toggles and change the color of the text.
Which brings up another question ... do I edit the ones in framework-res or lge-res? or both?

I have been working on something myself and after several failed attempts I used UOT Kitchen, edited some files in both framework-res.apk, lge-res.apk,(using paint.net) added a wallpaper I found, installed an adw themed launcher I just have no freakin idea how to put everything in a zip to flash it in cwm. (I can add files and folders to a .zip, just need help with the scripts and all)

Looks good! Come on irc tonight and I can help you with the cwm script, or send me a zip with the .apks that you edited, and I can make a zip for you.

Looks good so far... How did you change the color of the app labels to red? Was that in UOT Kitchen?
As far as the update zip... I couldn't quite figure it out but I got it to work. There's probably an easier way, but i extracted a zip I downloaded from UOT and replaced the framework_res with my updated one. Then I used testsign.jar (requires java SDK) to sign the update.
I dont have access to the links I found for this, if someone else has a better way please let us know.

You do not have to sign the zip for cwm.

Try 33B5E5 for the color, it'll match better ;-) haven't been anywhere near home or my laptop, and won't be until Sunday... I like the tiny button idea a lot!
Revolting Revolution. Tapatalk.
Definitely want to release it, also I've already changed the color to match the theme but haven't had a chance to flash it yet

Thanks MT.. I will try to get on.. what site and channel? The app labels I can't take credit for. I installed adw launcher and a free red theme.. would have to look it up again. That takes care of the dock and app drawer and icons and labels. I guess you would have to install adw and the theme yourself to get the whole effect.
The notification pull down menu I edited in UOT except for the gps, bt, airplane ect was just MT's Revolt icons I just colored them red from green using paint.net. I want to change the top bar icons.. just have to find some I like. The battery mod was in UOT Kitchen.
I tried to set the wallpaper as "default_wallpaper" in lge-res.apk but after replacing the lge-res.apk in /system/framework it doesn't actually set the wallpaper after rebooting. Wonder if it would after flashing if that makes a difference? or would that be in the script? Or could I only do that if I were modding a entire ROM?
I will try to do something with adw launcher so I can call it my own but lacking time right now. Thanks for the help!!
