setup hotmail as Exchange, using manual setup
email address: [email protected]
password: yourhotmailpassword
domain: [email protected]
exchange server: m.hotmail.com
[x] Use secure connection (SSL)
if you setup your hotmail this way, it will allow push.
Hope this helps.

heres a stock email.zip(attached)
cwm works
hope this works for your hotmail

Connect to stock yahoo email client app

I'm having a problem connecting my phone to the stock email client. Does anyone have an idea on how to get yahoo to connect.

I am 99% certain you need to pay for it by upgrading your yahoo account.

Open email, type in user name and password, click manual setup, click imap, type in imap.mail.yahoo.com, leave port same, click next, type in smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com, click next... that should get you going, it worked for me!

I don't think you have to pay to do IMAP connect - only if you want POP3. For me Yahoo worked even with auto settings. Only thing is, I have not been able to get it to push email. I have to set it to check regularly.
I had it set up before I started using cognition but more it won't let me. It keeps saying wrong user name or password and I know their both right

Any ideas

Yahoo is free for pop3 email but you have to pay for imap (push email) the same reason I gave it up and never suggest yahoo to anyone. Dont believe me check THIS out

actually hotmail now supports activesync, so it will push emails your android.
setup:
1. in the email setup, add account, put your hotmail address and password, and use manual setup;
2. select microsoft exchange activesync
3. URL - m.hotmail.com
Username - Enter full name with domain info, e.g. [email protected]
SSL - Enabled
Certificate - Accept the SSL certificate when prompted
Contacts, Calendar can be enabled.
4. enjoy the push email

[app] hotmail?

Anyone found an APP that will work with Hotmail with a Captivate? Stock, tablet and even K-9 don't support it. There must be a decent one out there! Thanks!

I just forward my live account to my gmail.

Stock email app works like a charm with hotmail. I got 2 accounts configured under it and my local provider email also. Never had issues getting hotmail.
If you want to fully managed your hotmail (delete mails on server) then your right default email app on the cappy cannot do it but it can fetch the mail.
EDIT: Tried delete on the server option and it works. Fluke bug probably.
Do a Google search on "Hotmail activesync android" and you should be on your way use stock email to do push Hotmail. server deletion is supported last time I checked.

Correct .. last time i tried it failed miserably.. maybe just a bug or a bad connection.
Haven't tried it personally, but I do use Maildroid for gmail,Yahoo, and my ISP email. All set to push, even free Yahoo.
I used the exchange server for hotmail on my Captivate, worked fine with the stock email. Set it up as exchange, using m.hotmail.com as the server. Your username is your full email address. I don't have a Captivate anymore so I don't know if you need anything else (like port numbers). Google should give you the rest.
Also, if you set it up as exchange you can choose to sync your contacts and calendar with hotmail.

[Q] Mail and secure (SSL) SMTP and POP3 connections

I cannot configure an email account using the stock "mail program" when both the incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) servers are SSL secure.
Does anyone else experience the same problem?
Thank you.
If you have a yahoo email address set it up like this
Incoming
Email
Password
Imap.mail.yahoo.com
Ssl
993
Outgoing
Email
Password
Stmp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Ssl
465

Thank you for your detailed response. However, mine is a corporate email server. The problem could be with its SSL certificate.

Is it an exchange server? If it is make sure you use the exchange active sync option instead of the mail one when adding your account. Mine uses SSL with no problems whatsoever.
Oops, just saw you said it was pop3. Nevermind.

No, it's not an Exchange server.
I've tried various mail APPs:
1. K-9 Mail fails with a Java exception.
2. stock mail goes into an indefinite loop upon the POP3 and SMTP SSL setup.
3. Enhanced mail works fine.
4. MailDroid works fine -- I've decided to go with the MailDroid APP after these past few days.
Thank you jayv81 and pside15 for responding.

What you mean with "push"? Original mail client always have pop3, imap and exchange protocols.

Email clients usually pull (sync) from the servers at intervalls set by the user.
Push gets the messages in realtime.

Yeah - it's ActiveSync. Just select Exchange and you will get push email if your server supports it.
Hi guys, I'm a noob so just jumping in on this thread with my question. I have stock 4.0.3 on my Note and while I love the native email app it doesn't seem to have push capabilities for my Gmail account. Someone mentioned using exchange-how should I do this? I let it do the automatic setup when I registered my email-should I do the manual setup instead?

1. Why use email app for gmail, when gmail app supports push?
2. If you need it anyway, it shouldn't be too hard to find on google (i hope) search for gmail and exchange

Gmail Exchange ActiveSync server address: m.google.com
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync domain: google
Gmail Exchange ActiveSync user name: Your full Gmail address ([email protected], e.g.)

I don't particularly like the Gmail app. No reason why, I just prefer the style of the stock email app.
As for push, it works fine now. I just had to do a manual setup rather than the automatic setup.
