Deleting is fine but if you need it up you won't have it on your sd to flash again

This is exactly why I leave it. If I screw something up it is easy to reflash.
Wow.... just wow. I can understand most of the questions posted in development. But this...

sorry about not posting it in q&a guys i have done it a few times half asleep and go into wrong forum
Do a nandroid backup, and a titanium backup and this ROM zip too. In case u mess up real bad, and even ur nandroid can't help, u could install this ROM back, and use TiBu to restore apps and data.

First off, Thanks for all the knowledge on this forum. My Hero has become my friend! My question is am I able to get rid of files off my SD? The installation zips? I am trying to clear out some room so I can put some music back on.
Thanks in advance!

Things like your rom, kernel or theme zips? Yes, you can....once you flash them they have done their job....

Keep the nandroid folder and any folder created by apps unless you no longer use those apps. Any .zip you flashed can be removed but I always keep one on the card just on case something happens.

Hello I just started flashing roms from my phone with astro manager and everytime I download a new rom it doesn't flash the entire rom. It flashes part of it and leaves half if the other roms on my phone. Its not that they are the same because if see all of them before and now they look different and don't have all the cool stuff

Not really sure how you're flashing ROM's with Astro?
Go to the Dev section and read through the guides. You should be using ClockworkMod Recovery to flash. Install Clockwork, reboot into recovery, wipe data, flash your Rom.zip, enjoy.

Where to begin?
I told you astro allows you to download roms to your phone directly, not actually flash a rom.
You should take a step back, I think it would be in your best interest to read more, ask more questions, and understand what you are trying before you try it.
You recovered from one soft brick, but that was only with step by step instructions. Knowledge will help prevent that from happening again
Yes guys I'm sorry, I meant I'm using astro but I'm flashing like im supposed to. The reason I asked the question was to find out how delete all my data work deleting important stuff. In recovery mode, I see delete cache data and delete user data (or something like that) and I didn't want to screw it up, bit i also want all of the rom, which I'm not getting. Please just tell me how and ill read the dev stuff asap

but that still didnt answer the question that was asked.
what do you think you are missing? apps? thats by design, you need to restore them with titanium backup.
stock bloat? by design
what specifically do you think you are missing on these roms?
I realize its a stupid answer but I don't really exactly know. The only thing I know is that I had a very long list of apps FROM THE ROM and now I dont. Maybe its just me but has anyone seen anything like this? If not then so be it, close the thread and ill deal with it.

So to summarize you are upset you are missing apps that you can't remember what they were. How important could they on been?

Titanium backup
My mom has a captivate running stock android 2.1.
I only enabled lagfix on her phone and nothing else.
After the official froyo came out I was thinking about updating it.
I have a few questions about it. Please answer as many as you can...
1. Will all apps disappear?
2. If yes for #1 do I need to get titanium backup?
3. Do I disable lagfix?
Please help.. thank you

Here's your answer, search the forums. You will find it.
1. All apps will dissapear! Be warned
2. You should use titanium backup thats a good idea but the kb1 must be rooted and sideloading enable to get them all back (use super one click) also put the titanium backup folder on external sd or on computer just in case
3. YES DISABLE THE LAGFIX VERY IMPORTANT

Thanks for the reply!. Would have caused a great trouble if I didn't question this...
Anyway just wondering, if I just had the captivate and did not know anything about root/flash/etc I would have just updated and gotten everything deleted right?
Did Samsung mention the fact that all my apps would have disappeared?. I just think its unfair to some people....

With normal android devices this would not have been an issue as the apps reinstall when you light into your Google account but that feature is missing from the Galaxy line

Yea, you should take all the important folders off your internal sd card like the titanium backup folder and put them spmewhere on you computer, that's what I did and once I updated I got all my files back, I still needed to root/enable sideloading to get my apps from TiBu back
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes, it would have gotten deleted even if you hadn't upgraded to the ji6 build of froyo

Is that true? Now it makes sense why nothing seems to happen when I go to a new rom.
No clue... Probably a comp or browser

What are all the system apps I can delete?
Anything that doesn't run or help to run system functions(core stuff). So basically anything that is just a normal app. Like the Cricket apps and the preinstalled games. Protips. Its hard to remember all the stuff really. Make sure to do a Nand back up before deleting anything, that way if you delete something you shouldnt have you can run a restore! Other then the bloats(preinstalled Cricket apps and games) I wouldn't recommend deleting much fron system.

Hi there. After deleting the clock app from my note I have been sent the apk again to reinstall. However aftrr pushing file into system/app i cannot get it to install and it does not show up in app drawer. I have permissions set at RW R R but still nothing.
Am I doing something wrong? All help appreciated.

Bit more info on this. I am on LQ2 with Root and standard kernel.
Only thing i havent done that I can think of is to simply reload LQ2 and start again but this seems a bit much for the sake of an alarm clock. I have installed a basic clock from market but i much predfered the stock clock.

Haven't you got a backup which includes the clock? Always do backups with titanium backup before removing system apps.
In case you got titanium backup pm me your email address and I will send you my backup of the clock. I think this is the simplest way.

Yeah i realise now that i should have done a back up but i deleted the wrong app whilst i was cleaning up and didnt realise till later.

Did you reboot after pushing the apk and setting permissions? It has to be done for changes to take effect.
Yeah rebooted and cleared davlik cache as well.
I think the problem might be that there is still parts of the alarm or clock app left in the the registry or system/app folder but I cant find them. For time being i downloaded a copy of the Clock app from tge Nexus and it works fine.

Sending you titanium backup of clock, place it to titanium backup folder and restore it.
Check PM after some time.

I did exactly the same. Sent it to him by email. No response yet whether it worked or not.

Ok so tried to do a backup and titanium says its reinstalling app but just stays at that sort of buffering circle for as long as i care to leave the phone to run. In titanium the backup shows being available for backup with the smiley face etc. I can see titanium getting su access etc as well but just not reinstalling.
Might need to admit defeat lol.
