I'm trying to use the computer's wifi connection to send TO the Captivate; the phone is having those wifi issues with the school's internet and until I get that fixed I can't really use that much data.
I was wondering if there was a way to use the computer's wifi through usb or it's own wifi connection? Thanks in advance.
Oh and I'm using a custom 2.2.1 rom
Like ftp? If so, try On Air from the market.
What OS are you using on your computer. If you are using a Windows machine and are have it plugged into the LAN you can set up an AD/HOC network. Google the process as the process varies per XP Vista and Win 7. However if you are using your computers wifi to connect to the schools wireless then I am not sure on what you can do.
Thanks for the input guys; and yea charlier, I thought about making an ad hoc network but sadly I'm using my computer's wifi to connect to the internet so that won't work.
Yesterday I bit the bullet and upgraded to the 2gb data plan and I'm loving it; with the ROM I'm getting better battery life, OC/UV benefits, the ability to side load, and ATT's network speed is amazing here (H+).

So my laptops internal wireless card gave out, and while I don't mind using 3g.. wifi is a little faster, so is there a way to use that instead of 3g? I do not see it as an option in the internet sharing app.
thanks
hmm, i think ICS could do that.......... connect via wifi then connect ICS with USB or bluetooth..... hmm, i was thinking wmwifirouter could do it but i am not sure
already tried that. I think that wmwifirouter is for sharing 3g over wireless
simple..I do that all the time.
Turn off Data Connection
Turn On WiFi
Turn On Internet Sharing
..wah-la !
i tried that but under network connection wifi does not appear and it tries to connect to 3g?
I know we can simply connect my HTC via my wireless connection,
but is there a way, presumeably if we want to connect our phone
to the internet via PC. anyone care to share the tricks? thx.
Hi,
I have Windows Vista and use Windows Mobile Device Center to connect to my TyTN II using USB. Can I use my PC's internet via USB on my PPC?
I was also thinking of turning my PC into WiFi access point so that my Kaiser could connect to it using Wifi
Any ideas
Thanks
As long as you are connected through activesync (sorry WMDC) you can use your PC's internet on your phone. As for your second question you should just get a wireless router if you want wi fi for your kaiser.
Thanks for the quick response.

But that never seems to work ... it used to work with activesync on Windows XP on my home PC but not on my laptop with Windows Vista.

Hmmmm... I have been using Wifi on Kaiser without a problem. I was just thinking if I could use my Laptop as access point so that my Kaiser could connect to it over wireless connection... Or any other idea for internet connection sharing (of PC for PPC).
Yasir
anyone? ...
You want to keep your laptop on to use it as a Wifi AP for your kaiser?? Might as well use your laptop already and not ruin your eyes.
Haha... yeah right... actually I was a bit unclear in my statment.. let me try to put it a little differently..
laptop uses internet via LAN cable... I want to share that internet with Kaiser over Wireless ... is it possible... (now that's more of a PC related question that Kaiser, so I have a Kaiser related question too)..
I can't use internet via WMDC on Vista ... what could be the possible reason?

Yes, but for that you need to have your laptop powered on... his point was that if your laptop is on you might as well use the net on it rather than on the obviously much less comfortable phone.
I never tried it, but could be possible by making a ad-hoc wireless network on your laptop, and making your laptop a gateway.
There are settings hidden away that need ticking for sharing the internet connection of the PC, although I thought they defaulted to "on". I'm not sure, I haven't touched a vista machine in months!
Ad-hoc wifi would be the way to go, but good luck getting it working; it's a royal pain in the arse half the time, and for the rest it works like magic. Depends on the devices.
If you're browsing on your phone I hope you've got a copy of Opera Mini; using wifi my phone can nearly outpace my PC at browsing the net.

Open wmdc
choose mobile device settings >> Connection settings
Set: " this computer is connected to" to either "automatic" or "the internet"
That should do it.
Hi...
It's already set to "automatic" and changing to "internet" didn't work either..
thanks for the suggestion on wifi adhoc..i'll try to find more about it...
Hi,
I was wondering if it is posible to share the Pcs internet with the Kaiser with a Bluetooth set up?
Not sure if this is the right place for this...
Hi I have a G1 running the TheOfficial TMO DRC83 - US v2.2.1 + Expansion Pack and I can connect to the phone via WIFI tether, but I cannot get to the internet on the laptop that I am connecting from. I tried enabling Access Control and Authorizing the laptop, and I have tried disabling Access Control all together. I have tried connecting to an XP laptop, a Vista laptop, and an Ubuntu laptop. No glory... Help?
Sounds like you aren't using any software, which would be required for tethering.

I don't understand what you mean, I am using Wireless Tether for Root Users (my G1 is properly rooted), and I am trying to browse from Firefox on the laptop... I have also tried pinging a number of addresses. I have a good IP on the laptop, but it seems that the G1 is not forwarding the connection properly.
...scrap that...
misread
try downloading wifi tether. not wireless tether, WIFI TETHER. try this link
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
over on the right hand side there's the file section. download the one for htc, NOT GALAXY.
tethering wifi
try "anetshare" i already had a problems like u had at the beginning... the operating system included didn't works (DRC83)
thanks
Well, I've done some digging around and can't really find anything specific so I thought I'd ask..
The stock USB tethering built-in to Froyo & GB.. I was wondering if it was possible to use it for, let's say VNC?
I tried to connect in to a computer that was tethered to my phone using VNC.. But it didn't work, connecting out seems to be just fine but using my phone's internet to HOST the connection wasn't workin..
It's probably a Tmo port thing, but I was just curious if it was controlled with the app itself?
its most likely the way the tethering works, it sort of makes the phone act as a router at home works, it acts as the central point to your modem and then assigns everything behind it in its own network its own address. if you check the ip of the pc that is connected to your phone youre probably going to show 192.168 something. whatever tethering method youre using would need to incorporate some sort of port forwarding so you can direct the vnc traffic to the pc that is tethered to the phone. i use my phone to tether a bit while im out on the road and as you say, i can remote out a lot and quite freely, i cant see really if this would be reliable at all to connect into the pc that is tethered since the cell networks can go in and out and will probably pretty frequently change the ip address of the phone. ive never really kept track of my phones cell network ip...
Hello,
I am using gueste rom with spica kernel, but I think it is independent of rom/kernel.
When I have internet on 3G on my o2x, I connect it to my laptop and use usbtethering. It works.
When I have internet on wifi on my o2x, I do the same thing but I don't have internet on my laptop.
Wireshark shows that my laptop send packet through my phone and I can ping my phone. But I can't ping website. However dns works (I can see dns packet). On my phone, internet works well.
I don't really know how does tethering work. Maybe it uses iptables/nat ? How can I have working tethering? Thank you.
What WiFi device is your phone connected to and why can't your laptop just connect direct to that? (I'm assuming the laptop has wifi). It's also possible to set your phone up as a WiFi Access Point, that would allow you to connect your laptop wirelessly. As I understand, however, if you use your phone as an Access Point, it won't be able to connect to the internet via WiFi - eg, you could be in field with good 3G, connect your laptop via WiFi to the phone and then surf via WiFi and out via the phone's 3G signal.
The author of Gueste does warn about using spica's "performance packs" for stability issues.

It is a public wifi emitted by a router. It is possible that the router blocks tethering?

I could, the reason is that my wifi signal is weak but at my door. It is just more convenient that my phone is near my door and connected to my laptop. Moreover, I'm studying networks and this issue arouses my curiosity
