On my HD2 I'm using a Desire HD based rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907387 , but I don't like that HTC news is linked to Google reader and there are some other bugs. The HTC News app in HTC Desire (not Desire HD) based roms is great and I really like it.
So is it possible to remove the current HTC News (application and widget) and install the older one from Desire? If yes, how can I remove them and where can I find the old app and widget? Thanks!
I'm not 100% sure about this, as I don't use Sense ROMs, but all the "system" apps are in \System\Apps\
You could try just copying the apk file from a Desire build and putting it the same folder on yours. I've not had much luck copying these kind of apps from one build to another though, so it may well not work.
I'm sure some kind Desire ROM user will be able to post the apk for you.
Alternatively, get a Desire SD build and run that, just to get the file yourself.
Hope this helps
Thanks, I'll try. Can somebody please post the apk from Desire based build.
Anyone please?
And I didn't see News in system/apps
Update: I found it. It's called HTC Greader. Now I only need HTC News files from Desire build.

does it work if u rip it out and paste into another build?
Try out MiniRead news app. It shows the news updates in moving text style like TV news channels shows on the bottom screen(News ticker style).
It is very much customizable mini window and can be placed anywhere on the screen.
Just click on any news highlight and it'll open up in browser or youtube app depending on its web content or video.
Give it a try.

Although I love the way sense UI feels, I decided to go with froyo, and will stay with stock android until somebody ports sense to 2.2 . However, I really like the news widget that sense UI has. I've looked and found the apk, here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6447678&postcount=10, but it doesn't install correctly. Can anybody help me figure out what's wrong or direct me to a working solution? Thanks!!
Before someone rips you a new one for not searching the forum, ill answer your question.
Simply... no. All sense widgets rely on the sense UI framework which cannot be ported over to a normal nexus one rom. So any widget seen on a desire rom cannot be ported over... period. Sorry bro
Laaame. Anyone know of a full page news widget similar to that of sense?
I dunno about a full page one, but NewsRoom is really nice.
Greetings, Me and my Co-devs here in xda devs already agreed to start a little project. (Actually we are only 2 and he doesn't want to reveal his username here).
We already started this project last week, and so far we successfully able to port the HTCCamera to CM6.1 Beta and OpenFire 2.2 but it force closes at sometime..
Here's our priority list:
1. HTCCamera --> in progress and ported already but force close sometime
2. HTC Album
3. HTC Calendar
4. HTC Radio
5. HTC Sense UI
6. Entire HTC Apps
we might discontinue this project anytime because we have both a very limited time to develop. But we are trying our best (2 of us) to have some time and continue what we started.
The credit of this whole project goes to my partner who doesn't want to introduce himself here..
and we need more developers..
UPDATES
October 10, 2010 --> Project Started
October 16, 2010 --> Camera ported but force close
November 1, 2010 --> HTC Framework ported but haven't tested yet
Sounds good!
I really like some of the HTC apps more than their AOSP counterparts.

This looks like a good project. Good luck guys
We definitely need a better Calender and Album than the Vanilla one and I think the HTC Sense stuff is the best looking and easiest.
Calender would be awesome. Keep this good work up!
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
That would be very appreciated.

There was a Swype apk with an HTC like keyboard. I still have it installed on my phone but I think they shut the thread down with the links
I still got that one, pm me. I also made a multilanguage version of swype with the qvga fix and the new skin, I can do another one with the htc skin.
Sent from my HTC Wildfire
I would like to use some htc apps in openfire too. I got some questions about that...I am nearly a noob but I like to try something on my self...which parts in ROMs are responsible for "phone signature"? I tried to make a new openfire zip with htc apps copied from wildpuzzle folders into openfire folders->means I have extracted the Roms into seperate folders and copied the htc files from wildpuzzle into openfire folders and created a new zip. When I had flashed it, htc apps where installed but did not open. One time I got the message "This application is only for HTC phone".
Progress updated, see first post.. sorry for slow progress we are only few in developing and limited time..
best of luck guys.. hope more developers join you

Is there a way to get the footprint widget from HTC Desire to DHD?
The location widget currently in DHD takes up a whole screen 4x4.
The Footprint widget only took 2x2.
Is there an .APK to download from somewere?
This would indeed be nice
Try it and let me know???
here is the apk but it didn't install on mine .
it is taking from the Desire Rom.
I couldnt install the apk-files.
They must probably be modified in some way first.
Had my hopes up for a fast install.

I would imagine they would have to be modified slightly, like the Notes and Tasks widget was

Does anyone know where I can get the buddies now widget for captivate? I lost it when I flashed cognition's rom and would like to have it back on my phone. Thanks in advance for all of the help!
Look for the JI6 2.2 system dump somewhere in these forums. It has it in there. I'd point you to it but being on my phone that's a little hard

The Buddies now widget is part of the TW Launcher. You won't be able to use the widget without using the launcher. The last few Cog Roms have not had the TW Launcher included. However Launcher Pro+ has a widget called friends that is essentially the same thing.
I too have been wondering if anyone has had the inclination, knowledge, or time to separate the widget from TW.
I like the BN widget better than the Friends widget in LPro. I like the one-touch call/message feature, the facebook/twitter updates, and especially the overall ui. I've looked in Market, AppBrain, throughout XDA and Googled it. Nothing that has that roladex-like action to it that isn't really buggy. (Tried Ultimate Faves Pro...didn't work so well).
Anyone working on something...?

Theres not much that the devs can do without the source code. You can go to the Samsung Open Source site and see the 2.1 source is posted but there won't be anything for 2.2 until it gets officially released.
Even when you put TouchWiz30LAuncher.apk on the phone, the widget chooser still is not present. I've tried transferring over the widget .apks and placing them in system/apps with no luck. If anyone knows which file is the widget chooser, it would certainly help the cause. For reference, I've been extracting files from the the JH7_OTA.zip file that's on here somewhere.
Hi!
I'm very new to the Galaxy S (i9000) forum, I had a T-mobile Pulse before so i'm not new to android. And here is my question, is it somehow possible to install Buddies now widget on Darky's V8.1 rom. I searched the i9000 forum for it but the only topic I found for buddies now is this one. I hope i asked at the right place.
Hello from Croatia!
now i installed rom "PPC-SHIFTPDA GingerBread 2.3.2 V7", but i would like to use HTC sense on home screen and HTC photo album that can slide and see picture on screen without open album.
Anybody give me app.apk for HTC sense and HTC photo album? I've found it but nothing.

htc sense is not compatible for gingerbread , if it was someone would have cooked it in a rom by now, and no you won't find an apk for it. your best bet is to use something like launcher pro.
