I've noticed DRAMATIC worsened signal and slower data speeds since HSPA+ got turned on. The whole reason I switched to T-mobile has turned against me, I now experience the connectivity issues from holding the phone that were previously non existent to me and I'm almost always on EDGE. If it does connect to HSPA its unusably slow whereas it used to be close to 2mb speeds prior to their "upgrade" anyone else experiencing this?

Yes I was near Beverly hills today off the 10 and I particularly had zero 3g, lost service completely, then it stayed on edge. This area never did this before. I bet they are doing network maintenance or something. Which area are you having problems?
Hopefully that's what the issue is, maintenance. I'm in downtown-hollywood most of the time and have always had great service, until the pay few days, always dropping calls, slow data, etc...

YES same exact thing with my buddy's t-mo N1 when we were downtown.
Compared each others device (got an att vers.) he didnt even have access to maps. But he's been crying about it for a while now, even in Santa Monica he would have some reception trouble and connecting to EDGE.
Last time he told me he found a work-around and got a widget turning the thing on and off to reset but I honestly don't believe that's a workaround..
maintenance, yeah better chance. found an article stating t-mo working on 4G, hopefully itll make you feel better. Try and keep your phone nice and clean b/c hopefully the N1 is rockin by then.
t-mo to 4g maintenance.
Other cities have reported similar issues while upgrading to hspa + so I'm confident it'll get better, i mean before this is was fantastic for meso I don't really see how it would get worse

i have unlimited minute plan allready do they charge you more just to use the device or do you just buy the device and if youre voice plan was unlimited before you bought the microcell there is no extra charge?
You pay for it, that's it. They have a plan you can pay monthly for, but it isn't needed.

so the scenario is now, i have unlimited talk&text&2gig of web which i barely touch i download everything off my home wifi, so my bill wont go up 1 cent except for the cost of the device?? i mean i still have unlimited talk and text even if it goes through the device?? i know about the data but i avoid that by useing my wifi... they still charging 150 for it???
the answer is yes. Your choice: unlimited everything and weak signal or unlimited everything with micro cell using your broadband service. Just to get strong cell signal.

If you don't have unlimited minutes, it's $20 per month to allow unlimited microcell usage.
Make sure you get a good GPS lock on the microcell, otherwise your phone will flip out. I had to exchange my first unit. Once I put the second unit on a UPS I've not had any problems.

at&t has been giving out microcells recently - mostly to iphone owners to keep them from going to Verizon. I would make a run at getting a free one. Just tell them the iphone on Verizon is looking really good

Wish I'd known that. Had to buy one after being an att customer for 6 years and my house didn't get their signal, although they stated it did. Oh well, now I get full bars so it's all good I guess...but at $150...ouch!
The $20 per month is not required but if you add it it helps you get a rebate for the micro cell...so add it, cubit the rebate and then remove it once you've paid it for the first month...that'd my advice.
...jeepers creepers mofo.s...
Just a word of warning on the MicroCell. I had one for a while (I'm selling it now on eBay). A couple of times a month our cell phones would all stop working at the house. I would have to go to the web site to un-register and re-register the MicroCell to get things working again. There was no way to tell that anything was wrong (you still had 5 bars) you just couldn't place or receive calls.
How to get a free microcell and additional $ from att
It is a pain, but it worked for me.
I contacted att on/about 5 -6 times, spoke to various tech support people. Proved to att that I get very poor reception (no 3g), live beyond 5 miles from a tower, etc.
Took a little bit of time, but found the right person who would deal. They gave me $200+ due to poor reception from when I purchased my captivate (3 months)(of course, I've had poor reception for years)
Purchased the microcell for $150, participated in their $100 rebate plan. I had to pay for the $20 service until the rebate came through...=$40 cost.
Instead of paying for the microcell, I netted $110.
I find that att always deals...just need to find the right contact at the company.
does the rom or modem have any bearing on the microcell working? in other words i have paragon 5.1 on my cell and modem i9000bvjjpd does that matter or will it work anyways and if modem is a issue which should i go back to?
i got the microcell running, works good pretty good clarity, manager at store asked me if i wanted a job, she said she had never seen someone belittle the at&t reps into giveing a full cost credit i had to pay 220 but i had a 220 credit on my account before i left the store, something about thee microcell did NOT like the modem i was useing sucker went into reboot loop finaly loaded another modem and ran clock work recovery and flashed new modem and problem vanished
Do any of you know, if you have a microcell in your house can a family member with a non-data, voice only phone, like a go-phone say, receive and make phone calls over the microcell?
As far as I know, if they are an AT&T customer, they can use it, as long as you give them access

Their phone also has to be 3G. You may laugh, but my mom's phone is an old Nokia that isn't 3G, so her phone won't see my Microcell.
When I first got my Microcell I had problems about once a week - that was with a Linksys router. My Linksys started giving me a lot of problems, so I replaced it with a NetGear. I haven't had any problems with the Microcell since. It was expensive because I couldn't talk anyone into cutting me a break (and I called several times), but it is SO worth it to have full bars at my house.
I got a Microcell for free - I've been an AT&T customer since before Cingular - I think I started with them in 1986. The local corporate store owner lives right nearby, he has a Microcell because the reception here is so bad. I called AT&T and politely but firmly insisted they give me one - and after a day's review, they called me and told me to go to that store and pick one up. They had discussed it with the manager and he confirmed how bad our reception is. It works well
Has anyone else with a Microcell noticed that the battery drains very quickly? I've had mine for a couple of months now, and the battery in my Captivate drains at the rate of about 5-8% in an hour. That's with little to no activity.
Shouldn't it be the opposite? Full signal, less battery drain? I've seen the opposite before I got the Microcell.
Interesting you should say that, I've been wondering the same thing (battery drain since the Microcell installation). Maybe it isn't SpeedMod 13c after all.
Yep. I was using SpeedMod 13a when I was running Cog 3.04. It was great paired with the modem I had (jk4 if I remember correctly). It was sipping very little power, until I got home to the Microcell and then it dropped like a rock like I mentioned before. It's happening for me again with Cog 4, so I think it might be something with the MicroCell. No way to really troubleshoot it either, since AT&T have locked these things down pretty tight (no UI, etc.).
I'd be curious to see how many of us are having this same issue or if anyone is having the opposite (no battery drain).

I'm calling ATT tomorrow. Years I've been putting up with crap signal at my house...I'm gonna use the Iphone to Verizon routine
I've mentioned this in another post but I'm really struggling with this phone in "weak" signal areas. I have weak in quotes because I don't think it's that weak. Whilst everyone is using their phones around me I can't even get a signal. In weak areas where I usually get two bars on the iphone, this phone is showing no signal at all. Even if I get a signal the call quality on the other end is really bad and keeps cutting out.
Is anyone else having any issues? I'm specifically on about 3G and 2G.
Hopefully it's just my phone and an exchange will sort this out... I hope so because I love this phone but I can't cope with a phone that only works in high signal areas!
Thanks

Yeah i agree with this, phone service has been second to none, best i've had on a phone in recent memory
I am using a UK version in the USA and I am having exactly the same issues on 3G...
I posted a new thread on this about 20 minutes ago..
I hope someone has a suggestion, or I will have to send it back...
Too bad, I really like the phone.
1) a microsd slot, because what happens if your phone craps? BOOM everything lost right there. Its happened to my sisters iphone. "Blahblahblah just back it up everyday blablahblah" be realistic bro. BUT!!!! The fact that its otg capable is a good thing because that means we can use usb sticks right? Idk, I'm coming from the samsung epic 4g
2) A CHIN!! I can't be the only one who thinks this phone should've been the return of the chin? It looks so sexy, like an upgraded hero, a chin would've made it even sexier imo!
What do y'all think about the chin?

I think the HTC backup program is beautiful. I've used it between ROMs with no problem at all. Pretty much negates my need for an SD card.
II will say they need more accessories though. Am I the only one who uses desktop docks anymore?

Hey Brian, just as an FYI, I called Sprint yesterday to complain about the lack of anything in Central Florida, and two things came up. First, I received a $15.00 credit, and second, they're saying that (this is obvious) they're working on LTE in the area. Taken with a grain of salt, they said they're anticipating a release this summer for LTE in our area. Fingers crossed.

I'm just taking it in stride man..Im up and down about it and get close to leaving now and again but thinking about what the network is going to become keeps me from doing anything stupid...I don't even really care about LTE anymore,I just need a decent connection with decent speeds consistently(1.5-2.0Mb/sec)..Sad that in order to keep this HTC One from freaking out with all the driving I do I had to leave it set on CDMA Only so it doesn't try to connect to to weak 4G Signal areas(switching from 3G to 4G and back to 3G is so slow on this phone)
I had a chat with Sprint a few days/maybe a week ago..And they said the issues i'm having are because of the tower being worked on 4th street behind AOK Tires..Well that's BS because I drive by that tower every day heading out to the office and it has NOT been touched.Old legacy cabinets still in place/no workers/no panels and s4Gru also shows no work being done on any towers currently in Apopka.

I hear what you're saying. They told me there is work being done on the towers out off Sandpiper and that could be reason I'm having problems, but I'm all the way over by Home Depot and Lowe's. I can sit in my house on Lake Anne and get an LTE signal, but it bounces in and out. So, pointless pretty much. They had no response for when I'm at my office in South Orlando.

There is no offical LTE in Orlando and that they are doing full network upgrades... This requires them to screw with the towers for some time.
As for the comment about "I don't see any tower work"... Most of the tower work is done at the base. The only tower upgrade is when they install Network Vision (replace the copper up to the cell with fiber and replace the base modules). So even when they are doing a network vision, the only "visible" upgrade is when they are replacing the copper. http://newsroom.sprint.com/press_kits.cfm?presskit_id=19
Just be happy you can get LTE anywhere in an unofficial market... I am in Tallahassee and we still barely have 3g eventho we are on the LTE rollout list.

That's all fine and dandy that they're working on the upgrades now and that's why the speeds are slow. But for as long as I can remember, I've never had a good speed with Sprint. I'd hit a spot once in a while that would put me close or over 1mbps, but every other time, it's literally below .5mbps. It's ridiculous.

That is about standard for half max distance from the tower... The theoretical Rev. A high is based upon a high SNR (that was never really achievable at distance with copper).
really? before they started working on lte I always got fantastic speeds. When I got my OG Evo I pulled 2-3 mbps on 3g, and 5-20 on wimax. I really only get pissed when they are working on towers in my area, then my connection drops to .2-.5mbps, but I stay because after its done Im back to the good old 3g speeds, and 10-30 mbps on LTE. I love sprint, and most of all I love my unlimited data. I know youve heard it 1000 times, but hold on, its getting a lot better.

That is max burst (not sustainable). There is a lot to it, but one of the main things is degredation of the SNR (which is why they switched from copper to fiber). Also channel interference. Most users will experience between 500 - 1000 kbit sustained speeds. You are also limited by the reverse link when submitted requests.
All I got to say is if the reason my speeds are so bad is because they are working on towers in my area. Then it's been one hell of a process upgrading 1 single tower for over 3 years.

Sad to say, I won't be a user of this section anymore, as I have made some changes to my mobile phone...
I have switched to T-Mobile, for a cheaper plan that offers me more with fast data that actually works. The last 3 days that I've been with T-Mobile have been the best I've ever had on a mobile phone since WiFi! Ha They even paid my ETF, so I really had nothing to lose.

I used to be on Sprint and when I moved to T-Mobile I was amazed that things loaded so fast. It's just so much easier to get things done. Sprint really needs to address their data speeds. What good is unlimited data when it comes in so slowly?

I agree, I am loving T-Mobile, and still have an unlimited plan, including data. Usually, my Sprint data would be so slow I'd have to just not use my phone or have WiFi. I used to only have 1.5-2 gigs of data use, now I'm barely over a week on T-Mobile and have over 4 gigs of data used. Loving it!

T-Mobile is selling more and more towers to AT&T... My dad has T-Mobile and he went from having full coverage to not even making a phone call outside. I don't understand how you guys see an improved service through them.
I have to agree with the OP. Ive had sprint for 12 years and been through alot of ups and downs. Living in baltimore ive been lucky bc it seems everytime they updated the networks we were one of the 1st to see improvements. But working with 2 guys that have t-mobile really frustrates me. There able to stream videos and music from anywhere in the bldg where i on the other hand cant even download pics from text unless i walk outside. And dont even get me started on the poor service at my house. If it wasnt for the airrave i wouldnt even be able to use my phone at home. And every time i get a new phone it acts stupid for about a week until its fully synced with the airrave. Ive always dealt with sprint bc of how cheap they are but the 4 lines for $99 from t-mobile is calling my name. Luckily i buy all my phones off craigslist so i can just walk away from sprint
