I have deleted the stock messaging app and installed Handcent. Whenever I receive a text message, I receive two notifications. The first is the stock messaging envelope icon, followed by the Handcent icon. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Go to the messenger menu and click on the notification and that should fix it

You need to reinstall the stock mms.apk, then go in and uncheck the notifications. Just leave the mms.apk alone, there isn't a reason to remove it, it's tied into other things with the phone

I just rooted/cyan'ed my phone and when reinstalling handscent sms I found that both handscent and stock sms notify. I solved this before by uninstalling messaging, but with cyanogen/donut 1.6 doesn't give me the option.
Does anyone know what I can do to disable stock messaging or manually uninstall it.
at all threads in messaging >menu>settings>uncheck "notifications"
Ahhhh...I'm a genious, thankyou!!!!
I have the EVO and I uncehcked notifications and set Handset to auto recieve and mine were still coming to my main one. I just deleted the message icon on my home screen and replaced it with Handscent. I'm only getting one notification but the message was still going to my HTC message one. But it's ok since I replaced the Handscent SMS icon with the messaging one. Handscent is cute.

I have the same problem with the Droid Eris. The screens shots that Hanscent sends are not the same as the phone, when trying to disable the Droid messaging software vs. Handscent. Does anyone know how to disable the Droid messaging software?? I would be more than willing to pay someone who can set up my phone correctly. I live 10 mins. south of LAX in L.A.
Hey guys. So I was in terminal deleting the stock apps that I don't need to have and one of those apps which I deleted was the stock messaging app, I did this because I was using hancent. Well now I am not receiving text messages
- It all started after I deleted the stock app, I am not sure if it started immediately after or a while after
- I was using handcent and I noticed that I was getting the pop up received thing and the quick reply option but in the actual handcent app under each conversation the incoming message was not there.
- I then switched to chomp sms to see if that would fix it. Now I am not getting the quick reply popup message received (in chomp)
Are there any suggestions to fix this or knowledge about this topic? Do you need to have the stock messaging app inorder to have other messaging apps work? Oh ya, outgoing messages still work.
Hi,
I'm running Cyanogens rom 4.2.12.2
I use handcent for messages but the standard messaging app is also receiving and sending messages - this is the same for contacts i use acontacts but both contacts and acontacts being updated with the same information
do i need to re-wipe or is there an easier way that only one will do what i want
regards
Handcent
Are they being sent twice, or are you just receiving a notification twice?
Did you go into the default messaging app and disable the notifications under menu>settings?
I hope this is the right section to ask this, so here goes:
I have Handcent SMS installed on my G1 running Eclair. When running Cupcake, I easily disabled the built in messaging notifications so that I did not get that 'white envelope' in the notification bar. But, for some reason, in Eclair, when I disable notifications in the default messaing app, I am still getting the white envelope in the notification bar that says I have unread messages...I have that in addition to the Handcent icon...
Does anyone have any idea how to completely disable the notification for messaging in Eclair?
You can uninstall/delete the messaging apk.
I always wondered if that could be done...didnt know if removing that would remove the SMS capabilities of the phone (IE: if Handcent relied on it for API calls or something)

I wouldn't remove the Messaging app, some people have had problems. As in, no text messages AT ALL. The sms replacements rely on the messaging app for the actualt texts, they just read them from there
Don't think so because I used to just use handcent w/o the default messaging app when I was running a hero rom a while back and never heard anyone complain about me not getting their messages.
Worst case, just push the original back.
So I was having stability issues with Ecliar, and dropped down to Cupcake for a while until the Eclair dust settles and a few more stable releases are made. But, I am experiencing the same problems now, as I was with Eclair.
I installed Handcent, as I prefer it over the stock SMS/MMS application. In the default Messaging application, I have disabled everything regarding notifications, and I am still receiving the white envelope in the notification bar alongside the Handcent icon, indicating a new message. The only way for me to rid myself of the white envelope is to open the notification bar, and press the Clear button.
Can anyone point out what I may be missing? That while envelope is really irritating, heh.
Like the title says i'm using Chomp SMS as my default SMS app and it works great. However, the stock messaging app notification won't go away, even if i open the app. I'm on 4.4 rooted t-mobile if it matters.
Thanks

if you open the stock messaging app and set it back as the default msg app then open settings and uncheck the notification box then check all the msg in the stock app to make sure it goes away.
then back in chomp set it as default again and everything should be OK if you are still having issues then you can try freezing the stock MSG app with titanium Backup and that should def stop it.
I have a Sprint Moto x and i froze the stock msg app and it has not caused any issues receiving msg's so it should not on yours.
hope that fixes your issue
