Anyone help ????
I have set my Hero Email app so that when I get and email, it informs me, and I can open, and read it, This is when I set the pop and smtp settings. But I also get another notification icon, which only lets me read the email, not reply to it, so I get two notifications.....
I only want the one from the email app, pop account, how do I cancel the other notification ????
Thanks all
Ian
That's a notification from the Gmail app.
It seems to me that either you're picking up your Gmail via POP in the Email app, or you use something other than Gmail for your email, but have set up a Gmail account which is also picking up your email via POP.
In either case, if you want to switch of notifications from Gmail, go into the Gmail app and then "Menu"->"Settings" and untick "Email Notifications" which will switch of the Gmail notification.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks Dave,, thats just what I was hoping someone would say....

Hey Ian, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but my question is applicable here.
I am using the Gmail notification widget from the Market. When I get an email, the widget reflects the number of unread items. So, I no longer have a need for the notification in the taskbar. Problem is, there seems to be no way to disable the taskbar notification without disabling the sound and vibrate as well! (where is my "banging head against the wall" smilie?)
Anyone know how to resolve this. Handcent is the same way. Disable the taskbar notification and you lose your sound notification as well.
MissedIt!
Text-based notification widget for missed calls/SMS/e-mails/apps
Link to the app on Google Play
Get information about the number of missed calls, unread SMS, unread e-mail messages and notifications from virtually any application a glance with this simple yet very customizable widget. You can use it with any lockscreen replacement app to access all this information without need to unlock your phone.
Missed It! must be enabled as an Accessibility Service to be able to receive application notifications ('Settings » Accessibility » Accessibility services'). If enabled and application notifications not detected, try disabling and then re-enabling.
Requirements
Android version 2.2 and up.
Features
Reports number of missed calls, unread SMS and pending voicemails.
If you use Gmail or K-9 Mail, you can obtain the number of unread messages of each account individually. In the case of Gmail, you can also select which label to monitor.
Also reports notifications from any application that uses the notification bar to report events (including WhatsApp, Tweetdeck, e-mail clients, etc).
Customization of font and background color and transparency. Also font faces (can use fonts stored in external SD card) and styles (bold, italic, underline).
Customization of the layout (alignments, margins, etc).
Text messages can be customized to show whatever phrase you want.
Represent numbers as text.
Resizable widget on ICS. With previous Android versions, there are multiple widget sizes available (user can select which sizes appears in widget list).
-- PERMISSIONS USED --
READ_PHONE_STATE, to get the voicemail state.
CALL_PHONE, to directly call to voicemail if there is any pending message.
This looks promising! I wanted TxMissed to break into two lines, and you've got that going on here already. I'll give it a try!
Edited to say - it would be nice if the background could be made transparent, if it can be, I'm not sure how to do it. I do like that it only shows the pertinent info, right now I have one missed text, and that's all that shows. It would be nice if the number of missed itens could be spelled out, like 'one txt missed', rather than '1 txt missed', or am I also missing how to do that, too?

You can. Go to the appearance settings and click on "color" under background, and when the color picker comes up, drag the alpha slider over to the right. Alpha is the level of transparency. Farther to the right, you'll get zero transparency, while the left is more opaque.
Does anyone know how I can get this app to check my TweetDeck notifications? Is it even possible?
Tested Gmail support. The notification works but after checking my Gmail MissedIt! constantly force closes. Stock 2.2 Samsung Captivate I896.

It doesn't say anywhere that it supports TweetDeck so I would assume that it doesn't so far.
SMS seems to be working great, but it's not getting my email. Stock Thunderbolt w/ Go Launcher.

Currently you can't. But I think it could be possible in a near future using the notification abilities of ADW.Notifier.

The help shows all the parameters the application currently supports.
To all of you getting problems with the email, the application may not be querying the correct account. I will post today an updated version to fix this.
BTW, can you send me an extract of the logcat showing the error?
Edited: To temporarily disable checks on email account, go to Appearance, disable the Default output format and edit the Custom format to delete the [mails] parameter from the string. The application will know that we are no interested in that information and will not check for it.
new line not working

But the new line command doesn't work.

Are you using the default format string or a custom one? If so, please check that [nl] is correctly written (n-ew l-ine).

seems working but havent tested intensively yet. some comments:
1) it doesn't display the messages until the event happenned? ie, it will only show "1 missed call", but nothing when there isn't any missed calls?
2) is it possible to enable starting the relevant apps (call log, default sms app, default email app) when we click on the message?
It's finally in the making! What I've been looking for for quite some time now.. Awesome! Definitely following this.

Exactly. However, I plan to add an option to show the message even if no event happened.

OP, nice work. If you want help and (hopefully) would consider open sourcing it, I can get you some new features added
New version published
I was assuming that the first account returned by AccountManager was a Gmail account. If you was getting a FC when trying to get unread e-mails, please try this new version.
And now a question. Currently the application only handles the first gmail account returned by AccountManager. In the case of having multiple Gmail acounts on the phone, how do you prefer this to be handled? Let the user select what account to use or add the possibility of handle all of them? Please take in consideration that the last option will undoubtedly increase not only the complexity of the code, but also the UI, so before taking any action on this, I need to know if users will consider this option interesting.
okay this maybe a dumb question but its sure is annoying. Whenever i get an email the phone led light start to blink and the Email Notification Sound play like it should, but after 10 minutes it plays again and again. Like if i don't touch the phone it will ding every 10 minutes.
Its not an event reminder or alarm as email sounds are very different then anything else and only happens when i don't touch my phone. Like i got an email late last night and it kept dinging all night long until i unlocked the phone and cleared the notification.
Its super annoying, It just play the email notification sound and then let the led blink for 10 minutes but not play notification sound sound every 10 minutes.
Does anyone know how to stop this?

Unfortunately, this will take out the sound altogether.
yeah thats what i thought, you guys don't find this weird about the phone?
not sure about the native HTC email program.. but here's how to achieved what you're after using GMAIL appz
/ open up Gmail
/ menu button
/ More-->>Settings-->> Account Settings-->> [email protected]
/ Scroll down to "Labels to notify"
/ select "inbox" then a pop up notification settings box will appear
/ There is an option at the bottom for "notify once"
That will do it
when a new email arrived... you'll get a notification... you get to choose to have SOUNDS/VIBRATE...etc
and subsequence mail arrival won't have any more sounds
Just curious what ROM you're running that's giving you this issue?
Sent from my HTC Vivid 4G using xda premium
I sent an e-mail to my G-Mail account. When it came it, I left it alone to see what would happen. As described in another post, the alert sound occurred only one time. The LED flashed for a while but eventually stopped. I confirmed that the G-Mails allowed a once only notification.
I have had situations occur, but not always, where I will get alerts from both G-Mail and the native HTC e-mail app. However, it did not occur this time. So, I can't say for now what the native e-mail account will do.
I'm running stock ROM and have not had consistent email notifications. I have it set to sound every time I receive an email. But I may hear it only once for several emails and then once for every email received. I may also get a sound for emails that I don't seem to have received.
Just one of those things.
I'm running stock rom and using the native htc email app
Not to mention, it gets frustrating after habitually only reading the SMS from the lockscreen notification.
Any way to change the email notification sound?

Changing it is specific to the application you are using. Check the settings for the application in question. I'm using the Gmail app. The settings for each account has an area for changing the sound and frequency.
Was this issue solved?

For a regular (non-gmail) account (which uses the stock Mail app), I could not find where to set it's specific notification sound... BUT, everything else has its own notification sound setting (GMail, WhatsApp, Text Messaging), so I just go into phone Settings, Sound, and pick a notification sound there (which will play when I get an email in my regular mail). All the other apps have their own sounds assigned, so I guess technically, my Mail has its own sound.

SNAP. That is so simple. I suck. LOL

Disa and the Galaxy Gear
So I have a Galaxy Gear and Note 3. If any of you out there own a Galaxy Gear you will know that you can only use the stock messaging app if you want the ability to reply to text messages directly from the watch, without rooting and using a custom rom. But now there is a new alternative to the hideous stock messaging app and that is Disa.im. Disa.im is a new messaging app that is currently in open beta phase.
Disa is based off the Hangouts design principles and is a very good looking messaging app. Disa is also absolutely unique in the fact that it allows for integration of messaging and WhatsApp messages within the one app. They are currently working on including other messengers as well including but potentially not limited to Facebook Messenger and Hangouts.
How does it work?
1. What gives Disa.im the ability to allow for stock messaging notifications to be sent to the Gear is the option within the app to allow for SMS Fall Through. What this means is that all new received SMS will fall through to the stock app, triggering the stock notification hence sending that notification to the Gear. You can then reply to the messages from the Gear and the new message will be created and sent through the stock messaging app.
2. Normally this would create an issue in the fact that the new SMS sent from the Gear through through the stock messaging app would not show within the new messaging app, Disa, which is the case with a number of other after market messaging apps. But the good news is, Disa has another option which allows for Syncing of SMS/MMS with the Android message database. This allows for the apps to work in ‘Hybrid Mode’, so any messages sent from stock app will be in Disa and vice versa.
3. Having messages received by Disa, and falling through to the stock app, this would generate 2 notifications on the actual handset. If you turn off notifications within the stock messaging app, they won’t get generated and sent to the Gear, making this solution not really a solution at all. But… within Settings>General>Application Manager there is the option to turn off notifications for individual application. This seems to actually only turn off the visibility of the notification not the generation of the notification itself. So if we deactivate that for the stock messaging app, it still gets generated by the system and sent to the Gear, so when you get a text message, you only see the Disa notification on the phone and the stock messaging notification on the Gear.
4. Within Gear Manager you will only have to have notifications for stock Messaging app turned on. If you have Disa notifications turned on also you will get 2 notifications of a message on the Gear
IMPORTANT: Please be aware that Disa was not designed this way specifically for the Galaxy Gear, this is just something I noticed and worked through to come up with this particular solution. Please do not ask the Disa developers for support with issues with notifications on your Galaxy Gear.
Limitations:
The above will work perfectly if you choose to just use Disa.im as a SMS replacement app. If you choose to use Disa.im to have What’sapp messages as well then a choice needs to be made. The options are as follows:
1. Don’t turn on Disa.im notifications within Gear Manager. This will continue to work as mentioned above, but you wont get any notifications for What’sapp messages received through Disa.im
2. Turn on Disa.im notifications within Gear Manager. This will allow you to get Disa.im What’sapp notifications on the Gear but will cause you to also get Disa.im SMS notifications as well as stock messaging notifications. So every SMS you receive will have 2 notifications on the Gear. A good thing is though, the stock messaging notification will show on the Gear before the Disa.im one, so the only time you know that Disa.im one is there is when you go to Notifications area. So in practice, its not too bad.
To get it working you need the following:
Samsung Device running 4.3 Touchwiz
Galaxy Gear
Galaxy Gear Manager 1.6
Disa.im - Disa is currently in Beta and can be downloaded through their Google+ Community https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/114009566886187417546
Google+ App
Steps to installation and Setup
When choosing which number to go down to, please see limitations above
Disa.im with text messages
1. Ensure device meets the above requirements
2. Go to Disa group above and apply for Beta Tester status and download the Disa app to your mobile device
3. Once Disa.im is downloaded, open the app and go to Settings, and click on ‘Add Service’.
4. Let the app find the relevant APN and then select ‘Sync SMS/MMS’ and ‘Fall Through’
5. Close the app
6. Open Android Settings, click General, Click Application Manager, swipe until you get to ‘All’ and find the Messages app in the list
7. Click it, and then uncheck the ‘Show Notifications’ check box
8. Open Gear Manager, select Notifications, ensure that Messages is ticked
9. Send yourself a test text message. Remember that the Gear only receives notifications when the phones screen is off.
Disa.im with text and WhatsApp but no WhatsApp notification on Gear
10. Do all of the steps above
11. If you have WhatsApp currently installed, uninstall it
12. Within the Google+ app, go to the Disa.im Community Group, click on Plugin Release (DO NOT POST) subsection
13. Find the latest WhatsApp plugin release post, click on the link and download the plugin
14. Once downloaded, Open Disa.im, go to Settings, and click on ‘Add Service’ and select WhatsApp
15. Set up the service the same way you do in the standard WhatsApp
16. Get a friend to send you a test WhatsApp
Disa.im with Text and WhatsApp and Notifications for both on Gear (double text message notif)
17. Do all of the steps above
18. Open Gear Manager, select Notifications, select More Notifications, ensure that Disa is ticked
19. Get a friend to send you a test WhatsApp. Remember that the Gear only receives notifications when the phones screen is off
I hope the above helps anyone that is over the stock messaging apps but wants the extra functions on the Galaxy Gear.
Hit thanks if this helped
Regards,
Dylan
Nice, will have to check it out
post screenshots please.
I followed your instructions and I get the notification sent to my gear. But how do I reply. I don't see anywhere to type a reply. Thought that was the whole idea of installing this.
Hi,
What do you need screen shots of? Disa? Or the whole process.
In relation to the notification on the gear, is it a notification from Disa or from the messaging app, you should be able to tell from the icon. Also, are you talking about reply to a normal text message? If your talking about a whatsapp notification then you still won't be able to reply. The solution is only for replying to text messages.
If the notification if for text messages and is a normal message notification on the gear, there is a button in the top right inside the notification, click that and you will get the option to reply.

Replying on the galaxy gear is never typed unless you are rooted and have a keyboard installed. The reply can be done through s voice or through the preset replies.

Personally I have been using Verizon Messages. Can't reply on Gear but get the notifications and able to read as normal. Plus syncs between stock app as well as cross platform. It also syncs all messages between my iPad and phone seamlessly. Its VZW's version of iMessage I suppose.

When i press the button my GM freezes so i can´t select any app to send or not notification to my gear, i only can check or uncheck the button to enable o disable all notifications. Also i tried to reinstall GM 1.6, do a hard reset on my gear (i have null19 installed) nd nothing :S
Any ideas? Thanks
EDIT: the problem was the null addon hehehe
So, how do I reply to whatsapps and text messages trough the Gear? I have to install Disa.im on the Gear?

I am sure this topic has been raised before but I just cant find anything. Anyone that has had an iphone before may be aware of the VIP feature which is nicely intergrated with the mail app. If a contact is a VIP the email is presented as a popup on the lock and home screen. I have been looking high and low for something like this, either in a mail app that has exchange active sync capabilities or an secondary app, for example a great example of such an app is popup notifier (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nlucas.popupnotificationslite) but its filtering simply sucks. In other words its all or nothing you can not nominate contacts to see notifications from.
Does anyone know of such an app, free or otherwise its something that I live by.
for anyone looking for this enotify seems to do the job ok - does not work with active-sync (exchange) but has EWS and IMAP.

I use Touchdown for my corporate mail. Not quite what you're looking for feature wise but it does have one neat trick up it's sleeve I find useful. You can create a client rule (based on subject, sender etc) that speaks who it's from & optionally the subject line.
I regularly do on call so find it useful to get an audible alert if mails arrive into a specific folder or from a specific set of users.
Also if I connect my phone to my motorycle helmet via my Garmin and put it in Car Mode I also get audible alerts if I'm on the road.
