Random character rrror4uy - Nook Color General

Lately i have been experiencing keybooard errors as the titell/ suggests. As you Canon see the keyboard n my noopk enters random characters. It acts like it is possesseod. Sometimes I can alleviate the problem by resetting the nook. I've tried several different keyboards with no success.
It appears to start after about 30sec after boot.
Suggestions?

Is it plugged in? Some people, my husband included, have this problem when the nook is plugged in

This is my second nook and does not do what you are describing but the first one I had did this but only when plugged in. I think they fixed the problem with the newer nooks.

Two things I would suggest:
1) clean the screen. try to get in the space under the bezel as well a bit, sometimes gunk on the screen can cause odd errors
2) go through a re-calibration of the screen as well: http://nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen

My NC did this exact same thing when I first powerd it up on that glorious christmas morning. My wifes on the other hand did not have this problem at all.
I did a quick off/on and never had this problem again. To me it just seemed like a "hiccup" between the hardware and software. But then again my problem was easily fixed and may be different form the next...

Nook Color Won't Charge

Recently, at times, my Nook stopped charging via wall and USB. When its plugged in, charging or not, the entire device is very jumpy and sporatic. Any ideas? Its stock, but rooted.

I think I may have solved the charging issue by clearing the USB port out with an unplugged USB cable. I swear, the Nook cable is the death of this device. I still get the touchscreen wigging out while charging though.

Or not. I can't even press a letter on the keyboard without it inserting 4 other random letters. What a POS.

Yeah the touch screen freeking out while charging is a known issue. It happens on mine. Though, there are reports that it may be the charger it self. I remember a post a week or so back where someone said that they warranty returned their charger and then the screen issues were fixed. I wonder if b&n changed it's hardware. If it's a make-or-break issue for you, you may want to try that.

Thanks for the tip! I also just updated to the latest firmware release after being lazy about it. That seems to have helped....at least for now.

Mine stop charging a little while ago too. The only way to charge it is to turn it off. Not a huge inconvenience, but if anyone has ideas on why this is it would be appreciated.
Currently im running CM7, but the issue started when I was stock and rooted.

The same thing happened to me after Auton00tering it. I was too lazy to re-root so I just lived with it. After a week or so it started charging again on it's own.

Help! Nook always thinks its charging

Even if I remove the charging cable the nook always says "charging" any idea why it would do this?
The major problem is because I believe its causing the battery to drain way faster!

Reboot your nook. That should reset it.

I'd see that problem on occasion when running CM7.1, but it usually cleared up on its own, so I'm not sure what fix will work. What firmware are you running. The usb mode issue might be a clue. If you're on firmware that allows it, try changing your USB port mode and see if it kicks loose.
I'm on rooted stock - is there a way to access it with that?

Any help for my Captivate?

I had to do the UnbrickableMod on my Captivate. That went perfectly, however, a couple days afterwards my screen turned to this. The color is like this from boot, even the AT&T animation has this color. I tried flashing to stock with Odin and doing a master clear, that didn't help. Anyone have any ideas?

Shoot, I have no clue.... :banghead:

Not knowing fully the internals of the Captivate, is it possible that the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard isn't attached fully? Your picture looks similar to what happens when a component video cable doesn't have one of its plugs in all the way.
Thinking back to my old 8525, it had a ribbon cable that was directly under the directional pad. After a while, it would come loose and make the screen go all white, looking similar to yours prior to doing that.
Ill check that out, I'm pretty sure all the cable are tight. Thanks for the idea!

Nope, I tore it completely apart again. It still looks the same.

Popping noise when unlocking screen?

Has anyone heard a popping noise when unlocking the kindle. Its happened to me a couple times now. Wonder if its software or hardware issue. Thanks

I get the same thing from time to time. Doesn't seem to be an issue if the volume is turned down halfway or lower, but over about halfway and I get it.

I have this issue too
a ha~ it really happen in users' hands ,software issue, I am sure.
It keeps happening to me,sort of frustrating.

I was having the same issue. Turned off Dolby Digital in sound settings and seems to have fixed it.
Sent from my EVO using xda app-developers app
Of course now the volume level seems much lower. I hope they fix this issue soon since it doesn't sound nearly as good without Dolby. I sent amazon some feedback on the issue. Hopefully everyone else who has this issue will let amazon know.

I get this on occasion on my rooted fire HD. It was getting me worried that there was something wrong with mine.
I had the same problem in class today. My volume was turned all the way down, and I also had it in air plane mode. It didn't happen every time I unlocked the screen... maybe four times out of ten. Enough to be very annoying

I am also getting this and in fact returned my original device for that, screen bleed and one other thing that was specific to me. Unfortunately the 2nd one is doing it as well.

Help!!! My phone was hacked!

OK so the weirdest thing happened just now. I was charging my atrix HD when I went on it to check a phone number. Then it started opening apps and going on xda then other apps. I had no control over it. I couldn't even turn it off. I had to do the power and volume down thing to shut off. It was very creepy. I was just looking for a minute while the person did what they did. It was like when a person from dell controls your computer if something isn't working right. At first I thought it was being laggy but no! It kept going settings were changed and the person tried playing music on it! I turned it off before he could but the wierdest part is that I had turned of my wifi and set my phone on airplane mode so it can charge faster. No communication what so ever. Right now its off and I plan to keep it that way until someone can tell me what to do to protect myself. Also this could have been happening before i went to go check my phone. Which was like 15 minutes before I checked it. Please help

Maybe you installed an app that had a RAT or some other virus in it
Sent from my Atrix HD using Tapatalk 4
That's what I'm thinking. A bad app. The likely hood of it being hacked are slim.

What apps have you installed recently? And have you sideloaded any apps?

I haven't installed any new apps. Just updated.

I'm guessing you handle it like you would handle a virus on a computer and just wipe everything and start over.

Did you use any Samsung charger?

android is very hard to hack probably a virus delete data in cwm
Best thing to do is just wipe.
Easy way to do it is to go to Settings->Privacy->Factory Reset
It was probably a bad app.
Click thanks if I helped!

Another thing to be aware of is I've noticed Motorola's screens (at least on the Atrix models) are kind of finnicky. If there's a little bit of moisture around they just start registering touches on their own sometimes.
With my battery life being... less than ideal.. I find myself plugging into all kinds of chargers along my travels. Some non moto chargers make my phone go nuts, exactly like what was described - apps opening etc. Have experienced this several times. Feel the other explanations are possible of course but highly unlikely.

There was a story on the news recently that someone's iPhone was hacked by trying to charge at a public charging station. I would be weary of these charging stations.

Airport WiFi connections are VERY insecure. Basically they monitor everything that goes through. Text messages, calls, anything. Maybe they also have access to control phones?

I agree with above post non oem chargers can make the phone act funny especially the cheap dollar store chargers get an oem cable the you will know that it will work for charging and data.
