How to change IP configuration on WiFi connection

Hi,
I'm having problems with the configuration of the WIFI lan. I need to configure an IP Adress because the network does't support DHCP.
I need help with that. Does anyone knows how to do that? Or the 2020i only conects to networks with DHCP?
TIA
Joao
Under Settings go to the Connections tab and tap on Network Cards. Select the Wireless Ethernet (2nd from the bottom on my Qtek 2020i) and select the "Use specific IP adress" option. Enter your own addresses and then modify the DNS addresses on the next tab.
Et voila ..
The second adapter that i have in my 2020i is L2TP NDISWAN Miniport. Is this the correct on? I have the option "My network card connects to:" set to The Internet. Is this correct? Or should I connect to Work? I don't understand the diference between this two concepts...
Thanks
On my Alpine, it's the tiacxlwn compatible wireless ethernet adaptor. The difference between 'Work' and 'Internet' is that if you connect via Work, you can define a proxy server (which is what I have to do when I connect via my University's wifi, as we're proxied through an authenticating proxy server) - Internet just tries to connect straight to the Internet, and won't allow you to define a proxy.

Wifi internet

I have a wireless network from which I can use two laptops to access the internet. I am able to access some web sites from my xdaIIi when it is connected with my laptop, but it tries to use GPRS to connect. All I want to do is use the xda to surf while both laptops are being used. I can connect to the network. Please will someone tell me All of the settings required for internet access.
Really appreciate any help.
Wifi the simplest to do.
I really dont know what the fuss about connecting via wifi is all about.
I am by no means a technical person on such issues but here I have tried to explain step by step to get wifi on XDA 2i & the laptop.
PLEASE DONT TURN ON THE WIFI until the steps are completed
Step 1
Click Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> Connections -> Advanced Tab -
Select Networks -> Select MY WORK NETWORK for both (from the drop down menu) -> OK -> OK.
Step 2
This is the most important part & most people I feel get confused here becuase of some numbers involved.
Click Start -> Settings -> Network Cards -> My network card connects to: The Internet (from drop down menu) - click tiacxwln Compatible Wireless Ethernet -> Use specific IP ADDRESS
IP ADDRESS : 192.168.X.xx -> X is mostly 0 or 1 (check in the laptop),xx= any number other than the one in your laptop
Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.X.1 -> X = 0 or 1
-> Click Name Servers tab
DNS : 192.168.X.1 -> SAME AS DEFAULT GATEWAY
ALT DNS : CHECK LAPTOP,put in the same numbers (not necessary to fill)
WINS : 192.168.X.1 -> SAME AS DNS & DEFAULT GATEWAY
Here is my settings in INDIA.
LAPTOP XDA 2i
IP ADDRESS : 192.168.1.32 IP ADDRESS: 192.168.1.33
Subnet Mask :255.255.255.0 Subnet Mask:255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 Default Gateway:192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1
ALT DNS
WINS :192.168.1.1 WINS :192.168.1.1
Please remember these are the settings for India .I think 192.168 is common through the world I guess ,only the last two numbers are different,i dont know
STEP 3
Click Start -> Settings -> WLAN -> turn on by clicking the [w] in the bottom
voila!!! (I HOPE ) Connected to NETWORK appears in STATUS.If you are using a WEP key on the laptop ,use the same key on the XDA 2i when prompted.
(If the network connection doesnt appear as connected in status)
Below the Main,Settings,LEAP tab there are 2 icons - PDA & W
click on the PDA icon
Configure Wireless Networks appears under which find your network & click on that
Network Name :
Connects to : WORK
Click Network key tab
Authentication : OPEN,SHARED among other choices in the drop down menu.(If you dont know then look it up in the laptop under wireless connections )
Data Encryption : WEP (MOSTLY)
(unselect the key is provided automatically if it is ticked)
Network key : ********(The WEP key as you enter in the laptop)
Key Index : 1
click 802.1x tab
Tick the selection & select PEAP from dropdown menu.
OK ->OK -> OK
FINALLY
CLICK START -> Programmes -> Internet explorer -> HAPPY SURFING
P.S - Must agree easy to do but tough to explain .
Nicely explain by nannlp
For me, just follow the Step 1 and after that turn ON the WIFI and get connected....
Most of the time, leaving your wireless adapter settings configured for DHCP will work fine - you just make sure your wireless profiles are set to connect to the Internet (when it finds a new network, it shows the box "which does this connect to?" and you have the choice of Work or Internet) and it should work fine, provided you don't have any hardware issues.
You can have hardware issues, though; my Alpine can't connect to some wifi routers (such as the wifi-enabled Thomson SpeedTouch 780WL modem/router which my ISP gave me, and which I HAVE to use to access the Internet at home) - it'll connect to my Linksys router fine, but that has no modem in it (I'm using it as a wireless repeater) but it just passes all traffic to the SpeedTouch anyway, so the SpeedTouch assigns IP addresses and does all the configuration work when new devices connect, and I've had problem elsewhere too - the device either doesn't connect at all, or it connects but then just goes round and round in circles not connecting properly.
It's a pain in the arse, and it's definitely a hardware fault (I've tried Hitchhiker and various other apps to try and make the device connect, and I can only get as far as "assigning an IP address" and it falls over). My new Hermes works fine on everything though, so I assume it's a definite hardware flaw.
Idiot's guide to getting my XDA 11i to connect to the home WiFi
My XDA 11i has recently stopped connecting to our home wiFi ... any SIMPLE suggestions .
Thanks !!
Anyone ?????
Thanks for advice councils guys
i REALY dont know why you need to run though all those setting, just turn your wifi on using the tab at the bottom right of the screen, then click on wirless manager (bottom left a square with a W in it), then the wlan icon to trun on the wifi, click on settings, its bottom right looks like a phone with a wire. find your wifi network and hold on it then click connect, if it comes up with network type, chose interet. then enter your wifi security key if needed, click okay and go back to main, then u can surf the net all you want the next time u just have to turn on your wifi and it will auto connect.

repeat the first part to turn off wifi ad save your battery.
this is how u use hotspots, just hunt out the best connection.

Which network adaptor

The way my home network is set up (dhcp turned off on the wireless router) I need to specify a static ip on my phone. But there are so many of them that include WAN as part of there name I don't know which one is in use for the WLAN. Any advice appreciated
Found the answer

For anyone else goto Comm Manager/Settings/Wireless LAN/change network/ Network Adapters/IEE 802.11 b/g Compatible/ Set ip and default gateway. Then /Name Servers/DNS and alt DNS (get these from gateway pc by going to a dos box and typing ipconfig /all)

Wifi connection issues

Hi all,
After connected to wifi, I still could not get any internet connection. Anyone knows why? Is there any additional settings i need to check/uncheck?
Thanks.
If your router/access point has DHCP enabled, there shouldn't be any additional settings.
On the TFLO Settings tab, open "Menu" -> "Wireless Networks", then "Advanced". Is "Status" associated, and a valid IP for your network?
DHCP IP assignment
I had a hard work of IP assignment with my Diamond initially. Could connect to Wifi with all of those security configs (WEP/WPA/WPA2) but could not fix IP. I had to change IP lease time from 3 weeks to 3 hours with my D-Link 624. Than it worked perfectly.
Hope it helps.

Hi,
My status is associated, and there is IP address assigned. I wonder what's wrong. The funny thing is, my Asus P750 is able to connect and surf.
Did you solve your issue? If not, try to change WIFI power management to max performance.

WLAN with static IP

I can connect my WLAN at home without problems. But a DHCP server is running there.
At work I have WLAN to but without DHCP server so I need to set a static IP.
So how can I set dynamic IP for WLAN at home and static IP for WLAN at work?
On Wifi settings first card I can see both WLAN (home and work). I habe tried to set "home" on "internet" and "work" on "firm" (network device setting).
On the second card I can select "internet" and "firm" as network devices. For "internet" I have selected "dynamic IP" and for "firm" it is "static IP" with the right addresses.
But if I want to connect the WLAN at work I cant get a connection. And I cant see the static IP set on network device (it shows 0.0.0.0 every time).
Any help? Have nothing found at manual und nothing here with search.
Thx & regards,
Purzel
Same here.
I have to set up a manual wlan (IP and DNS). How?

any news ?
You cannot set Static or Dynamic DNS per connection.
The WiFi adapter is either running in DHCP mode, or static IP mode.
you'll have to change it every time you connect.
When yopu went into the network card while set to internet, you set it to dynamic.
when you then went into it while set to work, you set it to static.
when you set it back to internet, it stayed at static as that was the last change you made.
there may be some third party stuff out there that will allow you to do what you want, but i don't know of any of the top of my head as i've never had to use any.
Hi.
I have a question to the network adapter settings.
At home i use a static ip to connect to WLAN. But if i try to connect to the internet via GPRS-Connection, it failed. When i set the network adapter to dynamic ip, the GPRS-Connection works. Is it right, that the GPRS-Connection use the same network adapter that i use for the WiFi ?!
Perhaps i only must change the settings and everthing is good
thx
