be happy you have wp7..
go to:
wpcentral.com/rumor-january-windows-phone-7-update-be-massive-catches-iphone
copy paste that on your browser and read it
Excellent news! This is exactly what the market needs to hear. People who are upset by the initial release and believe it is all WP7 would ever be will be able to ease up a bit on the nay-saying.
The forces opposed to WP7 will be active all the way to the release of the update. They will actually be even more pronounced because of this information. So I hope MS does impress. Because if they don't, the system will suffer massively because of the heightened opposition.
Great news indeed
Hope to see this for real in January.
no one can exactly says that wp7 is selling poorly in the market,, i read an article that android is outselling wp7 by ratio of 15:1, and by symbian at 3:1.. but this is only on their stores or he maybe a android fanboy!
i am monitoring a facebook page of windows phone 7, the first day i monitored it there where 250,000 plus people who like it that was 3 weeks ago and now it grows to 500,000 plus likes, from this we can see that windows phone 7 is getting lots of user or maybe people are liking it and waiting to get their own in the future.

I don't think your comment is fair. I've been using MS products since MS DOS 2.0 right up till Windows 7. Never missed a release. Likewise the same with Windows Mobile or Pocket PC 2000 as it may be and as you can see from my sig.
All that being said WP7 was abysmal for a 1.0 release. It's nothing to do with nay-sayers. They released a great OS with too missing out of the box. This update if it comes to fruition would prove those 'nay sayers' as you called them right. In fact we may need to thank them because if MS went with people like you (no offense intended) who thought it was a great 1.0 release we may never get that update.
What exactly makes WP7 in its current state "abysmal"? And MartyLK's statement is spot on, WP7's detractors focused solely on the missing features and completely ignored the things WP7 does well OOB compared to other OS's, like multimedia playback, Office, gaming, new UI that doesnt clone the alternatives and dont forget making phone calls (which some high profile phones struggled to do when they were released). So where exactly is the "abysmal" part of WP7?

LOL! You seem to have answered your own question buddy. You've got to understand that no one is calling WM crap; nor am I comparing it to other OS's. I'm actually comparing it to PPCPE; the first generation.
If you feel WP7 is better compared to other OS's then you are probably right. My 2nd cellphone that I owned in 2001 was the Pocket PC phone Edition. Even that iteration had more functionality and features than WP7.
What people are upset about is not the promising factor of WP7; its going to be a great OS no doubt about it but that doesn't elude the fact that significant features were held back till an 'update'.

Whatever its compared to, PPCPE, android or ios I dont see how adding features later in its life cycle makes it so abhorrent. Doesnt account for your statement that its "abysmal". Lets not forget, previous versions of WM were feature packed but for various reasons performed poorly so they are hardly a model to compare to WP7 which seeks to put performance first.

You must be one of the few who never kept up with the news about WP7 from before it was released. It was widely known that the features absent currently would not be in the release version. I knew that and a great many knew that. I also know that what WP7 is currently is pure quality. I also expect future features for it, as well.
The ppl who are crying and moaning that WP7 is short-lived and bad because of the lack of these features are the ones that are referenced. They have zero excuse for saying what they say, if they are in-the-know. They are vocal and heard. How is it possible when someone like myself, who is nothing in the industry knows more than the ones who are centered in the industry? How is it possible that I and the multitude of XDA'ers know these features would be missing in the release version and they do not know that?

I have a feeling that no matter how I repeat myself my words will still get twisted. I don't recall ever stating that I wasn't aware that numerous features would be missing from WP7 on release. Nor do I recall dismissing them. I am simply stating a criticism of the current OS from an urban masses perspective.
You are looking at WP7 from your perspective of understanding. Remember your view make sense to you and me and probably every other geek or tech inclined person out there. However MS is in the business of making money not satisfying the tech fetishes of geeks.
Let me simplify my point. if you took your grandma to an ATT store. What phone do you think the store rep would sell her and why if she had an option between a WP7 and an iPhone. Take a moment before you reply and note I said "store rep"?

Here is what I responded to. You say (the red words). I say it has everything to do with these "nay-sayers". They are in-the-know and are complaining that WP7 is crap because of it's lack of features. If they are in-the-know, they knew it would lack these features. They are in fact treating WP7 as if it is all it will ever be. The fact that they are in-the-know and no doubt knew about its lack of features at launch means they are opposed to WP7 no matter what. They are the ones who will be even more vocal in opposition to WP7 now that the public knows there is a huge update planned.
The nay-sayers aren't fair-minded common users. They are the opposition to WP7.

Dont you feel (if not agree); that it's these flood of people that are forcing MS to release this update of missing features in early 2011. Meaning that if you keep saying something is perfect then how will the manufacturer know. Why do you think every store, website, business aske for surveys.
Without the so called Apple "nay sayers" complaining about copy/paste it would have never happened. Now ask yourself. How many people do you know who use an iPhone use copy/paste?

I understand what you are saying but I disagree with you in intent of purpose. Nay-saying from general, user, public is what will drive the OS to loftier heights, if MS does in fact listen to them. I'm not fully certain of that. I think of MS as doing their own thing, to their own drumbeat rather than catering to the public. The nay-sayers you are referring to are an obstacle to survival because they are -in-the-know and the general public listens to them. They will not ever like WP7 because they oppose it, no matter what. They will twist everything they can to destroy it before it's up and running.
People... people... people... Microsoft rushed this phone to market. They new exactly what they were doing. They wanted to capture a piece of the Christmas shopping pie. And we jumped in because we are sick of Apple and their iPhone. I mean really a battery that you can't replace???? Get with it Apple !!!! I digress... As I stated in a previous thread Microsoft will do what Apple did and in half the time. In fact it wouldn't surprise me at all if it surpasses iPhone in less than a year. I mean why oh why did Microsoft come out with a totally new Phone OS ? Because they know the current platforms will not support future funtionality and cloud services. They sank millions into this and they are not going to play second fiddle to Apple or Google in this space. So did we buy our WP7 phones for what it can do? No.... we bought it because of what it will be able to do. Yes it is lacking some defacto funtionality (copy/paste) but would you have rather spent your money and upgraded to iPhone4 and have a nice paper weight in 6 months? Yes there will be nay sayers. Heck I even say iPhone still sucks despite their advances. And if you think iPhone is so great, talk to me when you can swap the battery in 20 seconds or less. So bring on the the releases Microsoft and make us smile ! We know you have done the market research and we know you are going to bring great things to this platform.
I am a big MS fan and waited very patiently for WP7. I must say I was rather underwhelmed with the initial release and cannot wait for numerous updates that will bring it atleast on par with the functionality in W6.5
Exchange-
No settings to decide how you want the phone to behave after a delete

All of the above are painful ommisions for me. if the hardware on my Imagio wasnt so damn slow I would be back using it.
for search .... in the program you are in, mail, music, phone, click on the bottom right hand search symbol (last one on right). Type what you are searching. If there is a match it will find it quickly... yes some of the other features are not there yet (release coming soon). Not sure by the last one? No Swype ?
I've read many reviews on this device and so far it seems like it's the perfect fit for me, especially since LTE isn't available in my area. Cheap, well built and uses stock Android... Fantastic. Then I come here and I'm starting to read that it might not be the awesome device I thought it was... Overheating, poor benchmarks, bad battery life... These sound like deal-breakers. So before I retire my MyTouch 3G Slide (yes, I know it's incredibly old...) and buy one of these I must ask if this really does have some major flaws that can't be fixed by a custom rom. It still seems like the bargain of the century, but if it's not going to work like an android-powered quad core phone then maybe I should reconsider.
Sorry if this has been beaten to death but I haven't seen a post that sums up all of the issues with this phone yet.
There are no problems with it, these people just like to whine.. It will be a great upgrade for you
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda premium
There have been plenty of posts that sum up the issues and answer your question
1. All reviewers were testing on pre-release builds of the software
2. Maybe all the issues get quashed by the time they release the N4 to the public. Then again, maybe not.
Since you have held out so long, I suggest you stick with it for a week or two more. But if thats something you can't do (I know I can't ), just go ahead and get one.
Given the fact that Google has oriented the Nexus more towards users than towards the devs unlike the previous versions, I doubt they will overlook any hardware issues with the phone. Software glitches, if any, will be fixed soon.
We can't see a ''verdict'' until we see the final product and ppl get their hands on it, as everything being told right now must be taken as speculation as it aint the final version of the phone...
Plus these phones being reviewed are not the final version being released on the 13th
Buy it. You won't be sorry. There's nothing else like it out there. I'm also coming from a very old phone (not as old as yours though) an Optimus V. The way I see it, ANY phone, even one with a few minor flaws, will be better than what we have.
Tapatalk² from my Optimus V
In before lock.
People in this forum don't even have the phone. This phone is going to kick ass. You think Google would choose a phone that had poor benchmarks, poor battery life for their Nexus line. All of this is coordinated and tested ahead of time.
Apparently this whole project was completed in 6 months.
Since they havent made a huge change from the physical interior and exterior of the optimus g, it really can only be better than it with the software.
Patience...
Petraman,
Wait for real reviews after a few weeks the phone is released on Nov 13, 2012. A good review takes time for the reviewer to actually "use" the phone daily and give us a first hand experience. That is what we are looking for when we read the reviews. The early reviews information you should take from them is the hardware analysis only. The software needs time test.
I think it's going to be a great device. I'm coming from an LG G2x, and believe me when I say that LG makes GREAT hardware. It was just the software which sucked. All the reviewers are biased, whether it's towards Samsung or Apple. If anything, you can just return the Nexus or get it exchanged if anything is wrong with it.

This. If anything (on the software front) could be fixed, it would be fixed by the XDA first. :good::good:
The verdict is that its not released yet.
Even from the reviews I don't see a single 1 dramatising even one of those problems as much as the people who cry on the forums (and haven't even held one).
Plus, any day of the year, only Anandtechs review is worth anything. They have always been unbiased, transparent and complete. Anand is like a robot.
What verdict? It's not released for consumers yet, order starts on Nov 13th.
Pretty sure we've got enough of these types of threads OP, feel free to continue the discussion in one of them :good:

Yes it is funny, that 5% of people that probably have branded phone cry all the time that they didnt get update, where everyone else have it...
Its annoying that minority make so much noise about it that for people who watch that from side its look like its some major problem, where in reality its just small group of people who didnt get that update because of their region or branding...
Also, again, to everyone who cry about updates: GET A LIFE. Update will not make your phone super-mega-ultra better, its juts a bigger number in phone info and few random UI features... What do you expect from updating your phone? You could have damn 4.0 in it that just look like 7.0 and you would not notice difference...

Simple statistic math system: look for posts of people who have and dont have update, and to make it better, look for other forums too. It should took you about 10-15min because of magic of search engines(obviously use key words to speed it up). Or if you check such forums often you will get overall idea of how many people whine that they dont have update and people who say that they have.
And because of standard statistic reasoning that most of companies use, one person typically have the same opinion as 3-5 others people in group, so we round it up to some nice number(you should easily have 100 person that posted if they have/dont have update), and after that you will get that only about 5-15% of them dont have update, and biggest part of them didnt get it because they have branded device or live in specific region where even other companies dont push update so fast.
Of course statistics are statistics. They say only half of truth, but they give you basic idea of something without checking whole group, like for example group of people that own P9.
Also you can take in to the account Official Google statistics regarding Android:
https://developer.android.com/about/dashboards/index.html
And as you see here, only 8.9% of users have nougat on their devices.... it just prove that Huawei is not that bad at pushing updates, its just common problem with Android update system that google literally F### up at the beginning and didnt fix it for all those years(read: separating system components) :]
All the stats in the world aren't going to change the fact that it sucks, that despite promises of a "global" roll-out by the end of Q1 there are still 15% of us (according to your statistic) that didn't get the update.
If your company promised everyone bonus pay and in the end 15% of you didn't get it, you'd think that sucks too.
I've given up hope of receiving the update, seeing as the P10's been out for a few months already. And that sucks even more, because that means my Huawei "flagship" didn't even get ONE major Android update. And even though EMUI 4.1 is all right, there were a few features and improvements in EMUI 5.0 I was looking forward to.

So we should bash company because minority didnt get update, mostly because they have branded phone?
I got all updates that they roll out. And when you look at other brands and their update policy you will see that all companies promise fast updates and then for most of time they need to wait, OR WORST, they get that update but its bugged as hell and they need to wait even more to fix those bugs.
Also as I said, what do you really expect from those updates? Your phone doesnt work? it lack some features?
Because I had lots of devices, and Huawei P9 is not different here: new updates doesnt change much. More battery? More power? Nope. Most of people that say such thing say that because of clean install or lack of proper comparison(read: placebo).
All you will get is few random changes in UI that doesnt really matter in everyday usage and... thats it. Rest is just "something on changelog that you dont see anyway"
I'm not bashing anything.
You received all the updates and you think nothing important's been changed. Great for you. All I'm saying is: it's not up to you to decide what should or shouldn't be important for other people.
Some of the UI changes in EMUI 5.0 would make a difference to me in my daily use of the phone. But that's probably never going to happen. So yes, regardless of what you say: the fact that we still don't have an update sucks.
It's a flagship device. Very expensive device. And I still can't get the latest firmware update after 10 months of Nougat availability. They are completely incompetent if you admit it or not. It's embarrassing. This is my first and last phone from Huawei.
I think it's reasonable for owners of a machine that cost them the upper side of $500 to at least feel like the company respects them and is appreciative of their business.
You're right - updates aren't all that - however, they DO allow it's owners to feel connected to their devices, and foster the feeling that, yes, indeed, the machine was worth buying.
This is really the difference between Android and Apple and it does not help to excuse Android OEMs.
An update to 7.0 is not the same as an update within a particular series - it's a step upgrade to the current OS.
I also get upset with the constant whining for updates, however, it is reasonable, in JUNE for the Mate 9 owner to expect an update to Nougat.... And certainly to complain LOUDLY for not having received it. O is around the corner.
For Huawei and for the Mate 9, it's not too much to ask, PARTICULARLY when there are Mate 9s around the world that received updates half a year ago.
Let them complain is all I'm saying. People come here to feel like they've at least been heard. I know the frustration and sometimes just coming here and saying it, helps.
But also, really, if you had an update last month, don't come in and talk about how you'll 'never buy it again' because b300 has been out for at least two weeks, you've seen it, and the updates suck, you'll check again tonight and let us all know tomorrow. It cheapens the experience of an excellent phone and the hard work of the people behind it.
For those who haven't received the update, I'm sorry, I feel you, just remember you have a great, great phone - don't let the S8s and OnePlus's fool you, nor allow the lack of updates to degrade your enjoyment of the phone. The update will come, don't worry.
P.S. OMG - I've posted in the wrong topic...I thought this was Mate 9!! Oooops.
Why bash Huawei for it? In the case where providers didn't roll out the update, it is their fault, not Huawei's...
The update will come, don't worry. - Well no update since september 2016 when it comes to Vodafone Huawei P9, they keep saying they have not received the firmware from Huawei yet. Which means it's up to huawei to send the firmware to Vodafone for testing.
I bet most people debrand and update to nougat when their service provider seems to never be able to release an nougat firmware update because of huawei not giving it to them for testing. It should of been released months ago like a normal flagship phone.
I don't want Nougat anyway. All the builds I have used so far have been gash.
Quite happy on MM.
my advice is contact your local huawei support. I did a few weeks ago to be told that they have no intention of releasing the update in New Zealand to the p9 lite, and that they basically stopped supporting it in NZ last septemeber. This includes not patching the trustzone vulnerability. Have been working with the place I brought it from to get a refund

I agree, I got the P9 under EE... I couldn't believe no upgrade to nougat, and yes there is a big difference in the way new OS works with the phone... and the UI improvements help a lot in day to day usage of phone compared the crappy huawei marshmallow version... (very narrow minded of others to say you won't get any improvements..you do, I experienced the obvious difference!) .
I decided I wouldn't wait for the upgrade when I knew it was out... So I very very painfully upgraded the phone to nougat by spending stupid amounts of hours gaining knowledge. At the end I felt I got a new phone as responsiveness improved and the new emui 5 nougat OS was so much better and more usable. (fixed a lot of bugs)
So I feel for a lot of people who spend money to get flagship phones that never see the light of day with any upgrades/security patches, feels like we are cheated... Never owned (or will ever own) any apple ? IPhones but the OS ecosystem is rock solid... I wish the new OS version of Android that separates core OS from providers helps improve this.
Piece!
1 month and 7 days later - still nothing.
I wouldnt worry about the 7 builds either, battery life is as good as halved.

I thought this too but since updating to b386 directly (skipped 361) battery life is far better than on MM. Been browsing Reddit and Facebook n WiFi for 2hr 44min and still have 71% battery left.
I dont know whats wrong with oneplus with the monthly updates and security patches, but that was the most importat thing that i wanted on my new phone and i switched from samsung note 9. Generally im happy with the performance but without the updates i noticed that the battery life and a little lag comes after a while.

I'm not entirely sure why people are bent out of shape over not getting monthly updates. I guess I'm missing something. For me the updates come when they come, and in the meantime I just use the device and never think about what security patch it's on.
But that's me.
Its says open beta 7 on your first screen ! (Please give a cookie to this guy)
Latest stable(9.0.12) is on janury security patch, stop drug man you are already on the latest beta, that's why you have more telemetry, more battery drain, less stability but you are on latest security patch... (omegalul)
PS : Stop to play with your phone If you do not know what you're doing with.
Omagad, poor xda...

Well original poster never said he was on stable. So that's why I said, if you want latest and are concerned, beta gives it. If you don't want to do that, stop complaining Imo. OnePlus still does better than majority of companies

?
Im talking about you (and your screenshot when you say not sure why) and not the original poster.
Beta gives it definitly with more telemetry, more battery drain and less stability, it's paradoxal for a homogeneous ROMs focused on security.
Actually, I bought all the smartphones of the brand and Oneplus are funny about the speed of deployment of security patches.
Essential, Nokia and Google are 15x faster to deploy an update on their terminals, it's not just a fanboy response, we're in the factual there.
So yes clearly Oneplus is at the top of the table and I never say otherwise however it is just correct for the deployment of updates, i'm sorry for Oneplus but how many smartphones to manage ?
Essential, Nokia and Google are more responsive, end of the story.
Did everyone forget that the entire staff took a few weeks off for religious holiday. The pipeline of updates doesn't just start dripping out the other end instantly.

Never noticed any difference in stability or anything going stable to beta. Maybe you do, but I do not and have only had better results running beta VS stable. I have no extra telemetry VS stable so cut the crap with That please and thank it.
OnePlus providing updates for a lot longer these days than even Google is supplying for there phones. OnePlus 3,still getting pie and its 3 years old coming up. That's far longer than Google gives updates. Essential has one phone to take care so come on,don't go there, that's not fair to compare to, unless you know of more than one phone that essential builds that no one else seems to have purchased.... Google to OnePlus is similar in asking of devices to support especially considering size of Google as a whole.
I think it's very easy to criticize OnePlus when they're supporting MULTIPLE devices as much as they are. Look at companies like Samsung, LG, Google, Motorola, and others. Their update cycles are slower, less frequent, and don't last as long in the long-term. Yes, OnePlus has always been known as an enthusiast brand and was for us who like to tinker with their phones. But they're a company who need to make a profit, and they've really had to restructure as they grow to keep up with demand. They also release phones every 6 months, and I'm sure they've had to spend enormous resources to design the 7, while still supporting devices like the 3. No company is perfect, but they're far superior, in my eyes, at maintaining devices that can compete with other manufacturers, while also having to follow guidelines of other companies like T-Mobile and Google who require them to follow their rules in order to stay in business. As someone who works in Telecom, I see more issues from other companies than OnePlus. While it's important to voice our concerns on forums and towards the company, I think they deserve some credit for not venturing too far from their roots, despite their evolution as a company.
I agree that no company is perfect. But, monthly updates, at least for security patches are very important nowadays, especially since the exploits that are patched on the security fixes become known and thus leave people vulnerable.
For those complaining, you guys DO realize that we're on the better side of things when it comes to updates, right... ? Lmao

The really sad part is if OnePlus did give monthly updates (or any manufacturer), these same people would be complaining that there are no new features, or nothing was updated just the security. Me, me, me, give, give, give, want, want, want. There was a time when XDA was fun, you learned things and there was always new development and it has changed over the years for various reasons. I have backed off because of all the *****ing and complaining. It's just a phone guys, nothing else, it's a hobby for me and nothing else. Can we stop with all the complaining?
I read through this thread and nearly couldnt help but laugh, People complaining because OP doesnt give them a snappy security patch, which is all in crazy anyhow.. I mean.. you act like some hacker is going to hack into your device and take your stuff within the next 5 mins or so...... I used to be a ONEPLUS hater, Then After LG and Company screwed me over, then my Carrier started selling the OP, I decided why not, lets give
it a try, and I must say I been very satisfied with it so far, everyone complaining, I wonder what you did on your old devices that didnt get patches but maybe a few times a year..
I dont get it. I personally think OP has gone above and beyond what nearly any other OEM would do. and your still not happy....... I hear more complaints about the OP then I do any other OEM,
and OP gives you a hell of alot more then any other OEM would do. you get a Flagship device for half of the price any other OEM flagship device would cost, and you still complain, not to mention you complain because
hardware isnt 100% perfect, The reason they can give you the device for half the cost of all other OEM flagship devices, because they learned to retard on some things, If you want a perfect 100% everything, and all hardware top shape, then get another device with all that and pay $1,200.00 + for it...........
Sorry just adding my 2 cents..........
This is the main reason I kinda stopped using XDA too.... Half the time it feels like Romper Room in here.
I was randomly browsing youtube when I suddenly felt the urge to search for this device however, with a filter to only get videos posted in the past 24 hours.
And I found this particular video which caught my attention immediately.
I watched it and within the first minute, my e-boner died. Apparently, this user contacted the support from Nubia who confirmed that the Global versions won't get anymore updates, like literally none. Not even security updates, let alone major patches.
I'm shocked and curious if anybody else knows anything else about this. I mean... those security patches mean a lot and I was expecting a minimum of guaranteed android Q update in the future. Yet... apparently the phone is practically dead, unless you force punch the chinese ROM down it's throat.
Can anybody confirm any of this? For me it would be a 100% deal breaker.
First, they completely cut off whatever piece of software they were using for the phone and gave us a very stock feel/look with cut down features and abilities. Now this? Nubia come on.
Don't worry about updates. You are worrying about a guy who spoke to a CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. Those people are paid hourly wages and don't know ANYTHING about when or if devices will get updates. Relax and enjoy this awesome phone.
Hi,
Given the past of ZTE/Nubia, I would not put too high expectations on updates.
Maybe we will have 2 or 3 updates in the phones lifetime.
But I would expect a major update like to Android Q (I am pretty sure this will not happen).
There's no secret : to release a device with those features at that price and with all bonuses (earphones + USB-C cable + external battery + joystick) they ahve to save some expenses. Where do they make those savings ?
Yeah, you guessed correctly : in support.
So ask a question to customer support => 3 days to get an answer to a really simple question.
And of course support of software : non existent. Probably made by interns but in no way some pros working there... If there were, they would never have released this totaly useless global software...
As far as I am concerned : the device is used only for GPS guiding when I am on the way. But for nothing else... That makes a 480€ GPS. Probably the most expensive device I've ever had...
Jesus. So the basic global software is so... basic that it fully cancels out it's usability?
Have you considered going through the pain of flashing the chinese ROM?
It's really worrying to see that there are quite a few people stating that this device might not see more than 3 to 4 software updates in it's life. It's fascinating to see that the device is in fact not really a priority...

I dont know what people have but the global rom is okay, i have no Bugs, battery lifetime is good and so on.
I totally agree with the previous poster.
I'm on global, which is basically Vanilla Android Pie.
The phone is smooth as butter and I have about 11 hours of SOT time.
Yes, at the moment it doesn't have Dark mode and the themes engine. I'm sure it will receive these soon.
I don't care about updates at the moment, will see about that in the future.
But I can assure you that at the moment global is quite ok.
