Voodoo lagfix problem - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first post so since I need 10 to post in Developers forum I have no choice but put this here. I downloaded the link form the voodoo development thread here on page 90 I think. It will not let me post the link till I have 8 posts. Too many rules if you ask me. I have a Captivate with 2.2-update1, I897UCJH7, 2.6.29 kernl, Eclare.UCJH7.
Is the above link workable on my phone. I have put it into my root folder. I am rooted with z4root. I have used Odin before and tried different ROMS and went back to stock to just try The Voodoo Lag Fix with the original ATT System.
My problem is when I put the download into my root and change it to update zip. Then use the 3 button operation to go into Download which works. Still when I go to re-install packages it says failed.
When I look on my computer with the root drive it shows that the file is showing has update.zip. When I use the File app on the phone it is showing has update.zip.zip....Is this the problem. I tried to change it to just update .zip but it will not allow me because the file already exists.
I have ROM Manager and Titanium Backup and Super-User rights so I know I am rooted.
Thank You for any help in advance.

there are threads about update.zip.zip, delete the original update.zip, rename .zip.zip to .zip. Then reboot into recovery mode and say reinstall packages. I haven't done this specifically for lag fix but the double .zip is a problem others have had and posted about.
BTW, welcome to XDA developers. Don't worry, you'll hit 10 posts in no time.

If your using jh7 then you are on eclair my friend.... you need to find the version of voodoo that supports eclair.... the voodoo stable kernel that is in the dev section is for froyo and will not work on jh7

Ok..after reading this about 5 times I think I understand what you are doing.
You are trying to flash a clockwork recovery (update.zip) file. If you have not flashed clockwork recovery (using rom manager or downloading the cwm update.zip file ) and flashing using the stock recovery, you cannot install clockwork flashable zips
So, I would:
Go to ur sdcard and delete the update.zip files (all spellings)
Open rom manager and at the top, select flash clockwork
Re download the file u are trying to flash
Turn off the phone
Hold vol up and down, then hold power button for 3 seconds (while still holding vol buttons)
You should now be in clockwork recovery
Select zip file u want to flash

Thank you for the replies.
I went to the Voodoo developers site and I downloaded the ordinal link from there for the Eclair OS. I do have ROM Manager installed but isn't the file in the /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery-update.zip just for the ROM? I will delete it if necessary. But I do have the voodoo zip file that I renamed on the root drive and not in a folder. Besides it being a zip.zip are the interfering with each other?
I am trying to rename .zip.zip to just .zip but it will not allow me to do it. Like I said when my phone is connected to the computer and my drive is mounted it shows it is just a update.zip file. But when I DC the phone and look in the files folder it is there where it is showing update.zip.zip. When I try to rename it to just update.zip it will not allow me too. It keeps saying file already exists has update.zip.
I will do a search for the .zip.zip problem..All I did was search voodoo lag fix in the search here and didn't see anything. My other option is to do it through Odin but I really do not want to reinstall the ROM from there and I never tried the PDA before. It says in the Voodoo website it is not reliable to do it that way.
I also have SDK tools. Is it possible to do has a abd command? Understand I have only been fooling around with rooting for 3 days and I have watched all the videos and have been reading from the Android Central and Android Forums. To me this is the Big Boys Forum where the Developers hang out and I feel a little out of my realm since I am not a programmer or Developer. That is not to say the people on the other forums are not up to standards, because they are way above my pay grade there also......
Again Thank you for the fast replies

If u have already flashed clockwork recovery, then you do not need to rename ANY FILES to update.zip - once you enter clockwork recovery, you navigate to the file you want to flash..
Can you direct us as to what you have downloaded and are trying to install?
Sorry if u have, but I do not see this using xda app

Thanks all I did a search for update.zip.zip and I see what I needed to do. I just named it update and then saw it is a update.zip only file. It is now rebooting and I hear the voice. WIll let you know if all is working...Thanks again for the help

10-4 see what you mean now that I have been reading the guidelines for the different forums. For some reason this Site is overwhelming, guess when I know how to navigate a little better here it will become more natural. I don't mean to sound nasty or disrespectful like I know what the rules should be...

Cognition install hung at "finding update package"

My first ROM install. It's been trying to find that package for 10 minutes. Have I done something wrong or is this normal? I've done my googling, but it doesn't seem to be a very common place for it to hang.
Wrong section.
Just pull the battery and start over.
ah, sorry and thanks.
Development is for development.
Q&A is for questions.

Do you have a PC? If so pull battery and try and reboot. Did you move the cognition file to the root of your sd our did you leave it in the download folder? Did you flash clockwork recovery through rom manager?
If the phone will not reboot you will have to use odin to flash back to stock. You can find the thread in development.
If it does reboot let me know the steps you did prior to flashing

[Q] CWM not flashing on my phone...PLEASE HELP!

Hi Everybody,
So it goes like this. I rooted my phone for the first time and I backed up using Titanium Backup. then i downloaded rom manager. Within rom manager i flashed CWM. When i get to recovery mode and i try to reinstall packages it starts a download and a quarter of the way it gives me an error like "Failed to verify whole file signature"...and installation was aborted. After trying other varius methods posted like uninstall rom manager and rebot your phone and try again. I still had no success. So in recovery mode i thought maybe if i delete my internal storage and user data with cache data it might work (not knowing what deleting user data did). after my process of getting the phone on track i checked to see if my phone was still rooted. In my applications folder i had superuser permissions so i assumed it was still rooted. I went straight to market and downloaded Rom Manager, and tried again to flash CWM. Went into recovery and i had no success, it still gave me the same error message. I downloaded Titanium Backup to restore my files (i copied my internal storage device so i have titanium backup's files that i backed up) and when it loaded up the application said that the phone is not rooted.
So to get to the point. HOw can i get CWM on my phone? and Why was titanium backup saying my phone is not rooted when i have superuser permissions and rom manager was also using it?
Thank you.
Is your stock recovery 3e?....
That is what it is, you need to look in the development section for the modded 3e recovery thread, and follow those directions!

Its a sticky. Look in the "Read BEFORE flashing!!" thread and "The Captivate Directory |Guides|ROMs|Themes|Etc.| READ BEFORE POSTING(Updated 9/7/11)" thread.... use the search as well....

[Solved] Recovery 5.0.2.6 samurai..........

Ive got a stock 2.2? froyo captivate and did the new [Guide] How To flash Captivate ROMs from Stock by TRusselo and when i go into recovery i cant access external sd. I put the latest nightly and gapps on the root of sd card and for some reason I cant see it? I did a clean wipe and everything. Is there something wrong that I'm doing. I've mounted everything and still nothing.
Read the instructions again INTERNAL SD not EXTERNAL and you can access it, browse sdcard to /external_sd folder, it takes you to your external sd.
you mounted what? why? dont.
BUT YOU CANT FLASH FROM EXTERNAL SD!!!!
thats why the instructions say INTERAL SD
So instead of downloading through the browser.....I'd like to move the new nightly and gapps on internal memory with a pc transfer....where would i put it in? so that CWM can see it? Thxs man. I appreciate it. noober here. htc aria was a breeze to root and flash custom roms, I'm not use to this puppy.
ANYWHERE internal sd in the root, or any folder (except external_sd)
what browser are you using? the stock brower downloads to sdcard/downloads not sdcard/external_sd/*whatever*
if you downloaded with stock browser it should be there... not in root. unless you moved it after.
Thanks so much..... I found the files I needed but when I try to flash nightly it gives me this craziness....what's going on! Thxs for the help though.
edit: Did a factory one click by odin.
seems like an error with the zip file. try a nightly from a day or two before.
The build prop doesn't match the built asserts in the Zip, they have to match for it to flash... what ROM are you currently on?

that would make scene by the error. hmm he said he went to stock odin one click...
which odin one click?
Maybe he just did that...

So I did the one click to revert back to stock. Then I did a one click root and now have SU. 10 hours later and a freakin home made jig that I've made i'm still on 2.1 with root. Please for the love of God I'd like to install current nightly of cm7 and CWM. There are soooooo many ways I've read to install. Now from you pro's can you hook me up with some links or direction to get this going. I've literally killed my Saturday reading my a$$ off. Thanks guys for replying to my lame noobness.

Just clear ROM managers data and then flash the original Captivate CWM not MTD and the reboot into recovery... reinstall packages 2 times, and flash in CWM
Sent from my I897 using xda premium
Thanks for the fast reply. I bought ROM manager premium and will try it out. Install twice I guess to be on the safe side right? Thanks again. My wife hates my life right now being i've spent all day doing this. So i'm down to try anything on her cappy at this point.
Not "to be on the safe side"...the first time you choose reinstall packages in stock recovery it'll boot back into stock recovery, then reinstall packages again and it'll boot into cwm.
yeah thats a must do.
So i've cleared cache and selecting captivate recovery galaxy s 2.5.1.x booted into recovery ROM manger and did reinstall twice and got this.......I don't understand why i'm getting this.
Edit: I got it to work! I kept trying to go through the recovery from ROM manager after installing and it hung up a couple times. Then when selecting install packages with which I did it twice...it was in cwm 2.5.1.7. Installed nightly after full wipe a couple times and it boot looped. Then if I remember correctly I pulled battery booting into recovery, the 3 button way. it booted into Cwm 5.x.x.x. What the heck!!! That was a fun ride, why did it do this? Anyways, glad to join your guys community. you guys are awesome. Thanks buttons hit. changing first post and thread to.....solved.
When you flashed the nightly it contained a kernel with cwm 5 baked into it.
from what i have heard sometimes the cm install needs to be done twice.. too. i dunno dont mess with cm7
Sorry

Go in the Dev section (stickies) and get Odin KK4 without bootloaders. Flash it in download mode.
From there, Get Corn kernel, which you'll flash with Odin 1.85 and finally, you can get back to your ROM.

Dont use rom manager!! It had brick many devices! Install cwm 5 touch from squad thru stock recovery its the easyest way to get cwm!!

ROM manager is killing our mini's depending on its mood, don't use it. Flash either CWM4.0.0.5 using Odin (harder way) or just flash CWM5 touch recovery by Squadzone in stock recovery (easy way). The last easy solution has the least chance to something go wrong

mmm, this looks like an update, guess i need the correct installable version first.
got a new problem going on.
i did an "update.zip" file put on the sd-card, after realizing it was not a correct file and did delete the zip file.
Now after reboot into (orriginal recovery mode) the "update.zip" is still an option to use while the cwm-update.zip (wich is actually on the sd-card) is not mentioned.
When trying to use the listed update file i get an error saying "file can't be found on the sd-card"
what to do?

the update-cwm zip is put on the sd-card but won't be seen by the orriginal recovery mode.
it still sees the other one, wich is actually not on the sd-card anymore

[Q] I can't root my Galaxy Ace

Hi guys, I have been trying to root my phone for a while now but i cant seem to root it whatsoever. I've went on every threads looking for the problem I have but haven't found any.
I have followed every steps hubix has told me to do, download the zip file and transfer it to sd card and not decompressing it. However, When I go on recovery mode, I never find the .zip file I downloaded a few seconds ago. In fact, theres no .zip files at all, all there are is files starting with a dot then the apps name like .91calender. I've tried this for several times but the results never change- I guess it is insanity.
Could you please very kindly help me and try to figure out why my phone wont root?
Thanks
PS: I have once rooted my phone, I don't know what sorcery I used. I installed a rom which bricked my phone then flashed it with odin. I'm not sure if I unrooted it 100% but I dont see superuser anywhere.
