Just rooted my Nook Color and love the added functionality. Now which web browser do you suggest specifically for the NC?
I tried a couple and settled on Opera. Skyfire isn't bad but has screen scaling issues. Give them all shot.

Browser for Nook Color
So far I have been using the Dolphin HD browser and like it, I have also tried Skyfire and of the two of them Dolphin gets my vote.
Does Opera go to landscape for anyone? I can't get it to switch.
The stock browser is working fine for me, after trying the alternatives I didn't see enough of a speed increase to make up for the other issues they introduce into the browsing experience on the NC (formatting errors, artifacts etc) to make me switch.
I'm using dolphin IMHO it works way better that the stock app. I don't know what artefacts the above poster is talking about.

Dolphin HD is leaps and bounds better than the stock browser.

Opera mini for basic surfing just because of the speed. Do not use it for picture quality, video or anything where you care about the password, its proxied and compressed.
I've been starting to use Dolphin mini and am liking it so far. regular Dolphin HD just seems slow but it is better then stock.
I use dolphin hd, i like the full web pages, opposed to mobile versions. As well as bookmarks to sd, it just has more features than any other browser and was meant to be used with tabs.

I am pretty sure that you can turn off the compression in Opera in the settings the opera mini works great.

Dolphin hd
Tried Opera and Skyfire. Both had one problem or another. Plus, while Opera might be faster, it did not look as nice. It is a browser after all!

Dolphin HD
How can I configure the search results from the address bar or the search widget on the home screen? The results are always the mobile version of Google.
I'm enjoying the Firefox beta. I like the look and functionality over Dolphin.
I use Miren Browser. It's got a nice interface and is pretty fast. You can download from the market for free.
Those of you using Dolphin mini, does multi-touch work for you? It does in Dolphin HD for me, but not in Dolphin Mini.
I have installed the multi-touch hack, but it still didn't work for Dolphin mini...

Dolphin HD - Mini didn't do pinch zoom for me either. I created gestures for my top 5 sites - works terrific.
I'm currently using the Firefox beta, its really smooth, although maybe not the fastest. I would use Miren browser if pinch to zoom worked in it. Does anyone know why it doesn't work?
Firefox/Fennec all the way.
It's smooth, has a nice interface and syncs with firefox sync. There are even addons you can install.
If you want to check it out, here's a link.

Xsope is more responsive and swiping between tabs is nice too. I also like the way it fills the screen better but I have to admit: dolphins gesture function for jumping to a site by drawing a letter on the screen rocks. I wish I could combine the two but I'm thinking of keeping both.
Dolphin Browser HD v4.2
Pros:
Screen gestures
Organize bookmarks in folders
Cons:
Once the bookmarks are organized in folders, neither the bookmarks, nor the folders containing them are visible on the Bookmarks Bar. What's the use of organizing them?
Flash panels seem to float above other web page elements and at times these panels appear to cover up some other elements.
When scrolling these Flash panels cover the status bar at the top of the screen.
Tabs are too narrow. It is easy to close a tab when you want to turn over to it.
xScope v6 Trial
Pros:
Speed/responsiveness throughout the browser.
Fewer FCs.
Wider tabs.
Better use of the limited screen space.
Cons:
Cannot organize bookmarks.
Flash stopped working. Still works in the stock browser and in Dolphin Browser HD
No gestures.
I personalty like Opra mini but I have messed with both the others opra has been relyable using it for bout a year an no problems

The topic is "Throwdown dolphin vs xsope".
I've tried both, but keep coming back to dolphin, the bookmark organizing and gestures make for a more pleasant experience. Plus on xscope kept having were I would be scrolling and randomly my movements would start zooming instead.
I find this is very much like the old "Netscape and IE" days. I use Dolphin for 95% of my browsing and if it's slow or frustrating I switch to XScope.
Unfortunately, I can't see XScope with my Market hacked to think it's a Galaxy Tab (I do this for Swype keybaord) so I can't update it. ><
I'm partial to Dolphin HD. I never had a problem with it. I tried Xscope a couple of times but I didn't really like it.
Dolphin feels like a more polished experience to me.
For example:
Tab management "feels" more intuitive in Dolphin. The active tab has a close button right on the tab. You have to make other tabs active or longpress them to close, which I'll admit is a little cumbersome (ideally there'd probably be an x on each tab), but it looks and feels better than xScope's tab button, then hunting for the x for each tab's thumbnail (which are overlapped, making it harder to see).
xScope allows you to shrink text pretty much as small as you want. This might be good for a few specific use cases, but I find it preferable for the browser to lock a minimum zoom level like Dolphin.
I will admit that xScope feels quicker than Dolphin but at this point I'd consider it analogous to the initial Chrome browser release. I think it will do well in the future and probably surpass Dolphin and other mobile browsers, but right now it's not something that's enjoyable to use for mainstream (not that this forum is anything near mainstream lol).
I use and love xscope as flash has worked flawlessly for me on everything from hulu, youtube, ch131 and surfthechannel. I love bein able to stream any videos I want on my gtab
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I didn't care for the swipe to change tabs in xscope because I kept accidentally triggering it. Dolphin lets you map the volume keys as tab switcher, and I much prefer that.
Out of the blue, xScope Flash has suddenly stopped working for some folks and I am one of them. The most bizarre issue is it DID work and there was no update in between it working and not working.
As a result and by default, Dolphin wins. No funky a55 problems like xScope. I bought the app, so I have the right to beeeeeuuch!

You mean, any except for silverlight right? (Stupid xbox preview videos!!!!)
Dolphin works for me
i like Dolphin the best, never had an issue with it myself
Dolphin vs.......
Have used both on both my EVO and G-tablet and find I like Dolphin better, just seems more polished. The only problem that I have with both my EVO and G-tablet is that when I post to Facebook for some reason the keyboard will not display. A minor irritation but can be a little frustrating.
Dolphin is definitely a better experience, less FCs and the flow is much close to Firefox to me. This is only my opinion!
Dolphin HD gets my vote
xScope, a long press let's me download images. Wallpapers of course.
Dolphon wins for me since Flash does NOT work using xScope. Has not for a few months, regardless of xScop or TnT version. Works fine on my Incredible.
Perhaps the goobers at xScope will fix the issue now that more Tegra tablets coming.
I've been using xscope for a few weeks now and love it. Flash didn't work at first, but all I had to do was reinstall flash from the market. Has worked ever since. I love how going back is instant. Dolphin would reload the page which was annoying. I do miss the swipe right to see your bookmarks. Also, if you like dolphin, try miren, its nice.
Yeah xscope has problem with flash from time to time. I think it's an issue with the cache. To solve this clear up the applications cache from androids settings.
I rooted my nook with the auto-nooter for update 1.01 i have already set up alot if my apps like dolphin and launcher pro. Unfortunatly i dont have multi touch at all in the browser none of them. Any fix for this?

Google next time. The NC browser doesn't have support for multi touch. If you want multi touch then try one of the browsers in the market. My suggestion is Dolphin HD.
He states that he already has Dolphin browser.
to clarify i have Dolphin mini running on my nook color. i have also tried xscope and for some strange reason it works. is there an explination?

Did you use Nooter or AutoNooter? The former doesn't enable multitouch by default. You can enable it by following these instructions: http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Enable_MultiTouch
Dolphin Mini doesn't have multi touch for me either but Dolphin HD does.
Dolphin Mini does have multi touch on my DROID though.
For me, xScope is the browser that has the best pinch to zoom and multi touch.
Either way, Google would've solved it. Dolphin Mini doesn't have support for pinch to zoom. Opera Mini does though if you simply must have something miniature.
Dolphin HD is my favorite thus far.
i used auto nooter and have multi touch when using Dolphin HD or Xscope. i like them but i prefer the simplicity and speed of dolphin mini. and i get multitouch on all of the others i try.
I previously rooted from NC 1.0 with AutoNooter and multitouch in Dolphin HD worked great.
I erased and started over after upgrading NC to 1.0.1. Used the appropriate AutoNooter and now multitouch in Dolphin HD does not work. I checked the android.hardware.touchscreen.multitouch.xml file and it was correct.
What am I missing. Why is pinch to zoom not working in Dolphin HD?
latest dolphin versions broke multitouch when used on NC.
version 4.2 of dolphin hd multitouch still works

Same thing happened to me. No pinch/zoom in 4.3, but had it in a prior version. Any known reason for this?

I don't suppose there is a way to uninstall the latest and install 4.2?

Just confirming that downloading to Dolphin HD 4.2 using the link above indeed restored pinch-to-zoom. Thanks!
Have the same issue too with pinch to zoom. Just uninstalled Dolphine HD v4.3 and downloaded and installed Dolphine HD v4.2
All of a sudden on autonootered NC, pinch and zoom in Dolphin HD OR Opera browsers doesn't work. It works in other apps, though. This is weird. I uninstalled both browsers, and still no good. Tap-zoom works.
Any ideas? This is a major reason I rooted the thing.
Thanks!
Eric

Theres also a link in the dolphinhd market notes fot the downgrade version.
The issue is that installing 1.1 seems to cause DolphinHD to adopt the same pinch-zoom behavior as the stock browser. It is noticeably more laggy and seems to constantly try to do some sort of scaling/page formatting/text wrap or something that adds an extra half second to every simple zoom action. It also seems to "grab" links as I'm zooming and registers them as long presses, something it doesn't do with 1.0.1. It feels less precise and just wonky, which is frustrating because I'm 100% happy with the way it works before I upgrade.
1.1 has some very tangible benefits that I would like to have, but I use my NC primarily as a web browsing tablet when I'm not reading and this issue has been a deal-breaker for me in regards to leaving 1.0.1. I've upgraded to 1.1 several different times, using several different methods, but always end up switching back after using DolphinHD for a few minutes.
Am I the only one that notices this? Is there some sort of system-wide "engine" that handles pinch-zoom? And if there is, would it be possible to block those related files from updating?
EDIT: I've made a short/sloppy video to demonstrate the problem I'm having a little better. The quality is pretty bad, but it shows the lag and link "grabbing" issues fairly well. I should also mention that I've now tried DolphinHD 4.2/4.3/4.4, Dolphin Mini and the stock browser on 1.1 and they all behave identically in this regard. The only change between the first clip and the second is the upgrade from 1.0.1 to 1.1.
Here's the video.
I'm on 1.1 autonooter 3. My NC was shipped with 1.0.1 and I spent little to no time on 1.0.1 before I upgraded and rooted.
For what it's worth, the stock browser does pinch zoom on 1.1.
However, If you prefer Dolphin, I can understand that.
I have read that if you downgrade dolphin, you can get more stability. Not sure if you will retain pinch zoom or not. I do not use dolphin so I can't confirm.
I should have mentioned that this is with DolphinHD 4.2 on both 1.0.1 and 1.1.
Basically,
DolphinHD 4.2 + 1.0.1 = perfect, lag free pinch-zoom
DolphinHD 4.2 OR 4.3 OR 4.4 OR Mini + 1.1 = weird, laggy pinch-zoom
My uneducated guess is that there is some sort of underlying engine that handles pinch-zoom and page formatting/scaling that gets changed during the 1.1 upgrade. I've fiddled with all of the settings in the stock browser and Dolphin and none of them change this behavior. I haven't tested with any of the other 3rd party browsers.
Miemens, it is in the changelog of the app in the marketplace. Looks like they are working on a fix and workaround is last version.

That is a different issue. My problem is that pinch-zoom behaves completely differently between 1.0.1 and 1.1, both running the identical version (4.2) of DolphinHD.
Have you tried Dolphin Mini? I found that while it doesn't have pinch to zoom on 1.0.1, it is much faster and smoother when compared to any other browser. However, I did read that Dolphin Mini's pinch to zoom works on 1.1, so perhaps it would behoove you to try it out.

I just gave Mini a try and it does the same thing. I also tried DolphinHD 4.3 and the brand new 4.4 and they do it as well.
Have you tried another browser?? I found Dolphin slow and quirky, where Opera 10 works awesome on the NC (and on my Nexus One).
I've tried Opera Mobile under 1.0.1 and didn't like it. I'm mainly trying to figure out what it is exactly that changes between 1.0.1 and 1.1 to cause a behavior difference in Dolphin. I'm very very satisfied with Dolphin HD 4.2 under 1.0.1.
Dolphin HD is awesome...but...no pinch to zoom

Hey there, i have NC 1.0.1. rooted via auto-nooter, i've been taking care of random issues, and i'm stuck on this zoom thing. I can use the gestures with Dolphin and created one that will zoom the screen, but i thought from reading about Dolphin, and by reading this post which i searched to find if this was already being discussed that this browser indeed should do pinch to zoom. For me though, it isn't working. I looked at Dolphin's menu for a setup area where maybe it wasn't enabled right away, but no dice. Anybody know how to get it if it's not immediately working?
thanks in advance!!

With 1.0.1 you have to downgrade to DolphinHD 4.2, which is available on their website (though that seems to be down right now) to keep pinch-zoom from breaking altogether.
