Backup TouchWiz 3.0 icon position - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
is there any Way to backup the icon app position from the Stock SGS launcher. Want to enable the ext4 lagfix with binds but this only work after a factory reset for me. Got around 10 pages (one for navigation, internet, multimedia...) and sort the apps after a titanium backup takes to long.

im looking for the same thing and have checked every where, i mean how hard is it for some to sort this out

Look for the database for TWLauncher under /dbdata and back it up. Not sure if restoring this would work but I don't see why it wouldn't. Looking at the contents of the database I can confirm that this is where the icon positions are stored. Also maybe saving the settings for TWlauncher with Titanium Backup would work too?
EDIT: you would need root to do this.

did anyone figure this one out?

You should be able to back up TWLauncher data in Titanium Backup and restore it either by batch system data restore or finding it manually on your list of apps and restoring it's data.

i tried that but i ended up getting a bunch of FCs, and theyre still there once i reboot

Titanium hanging on some restores?

I made backups of some of my system apps with Titanium, then deleted them from the phone (don't worry, I didn't delete anything mission-critical). I was going through and restoring some of these apps, just to make sure that I could get everything back to stock if I wanted to, and while almost everything got restored without a hitch, there were a few apps that Titanium would hang on when I hit the restore button.
I'm certainly not screwed or anything. I'll just grab what I need from the system dump. I was just curious if this behavior was consistent across devices. The apps I've been having trouble restoring are News, IM, and Guided Tours. Anybody else having trouble with these?

Why can't I restore certain app data with Titanium?

I've noticed that I can't restore my ADW EX desktop configuration with Titanium, and I can't manually restore the backup files from my SD. Anyone know what is up with this?

Titanium while being able to back up system data won't back up your desktop. ADW has the option to back up your desktop setting. Just go in to the ADW Settings and you'll see an option for back up and restore. then just hit the button that says back up desktop configuration. However I'm not sure if you end up having to wipe the data completely that the back up you made would stick. I would assume that the Desktop back up from ADW would be saved as system data which you can back up with Titanium. Please someone correct me if i'm wrong. Hope that helps.

Doesn't work. I tried restoring with the built-in backup, but it wouldn't work. Titanium restores certain parts of the data for my apps, but others aren't touched. I'm guessing this may have something to do with coming from HTC to Motorola or Titanium not being fully compatible with the Bionic yet.
Edit: Titanium does backup your desktop configuration (just not your widgets). I've had a bit of experience with this.

Use the ADW built in restore option. It'll restore everything, but it'll show grey boxes where your widgets were, you'll know the positions and can simply reapply the widgets from there.

That's a negative. Don't you think I would have tried that? I ended up re-doing it by hand.

[Q] Titanium Backup Freezing

Anyone having Titanium Backup freeze on random apps during a batch restore? It's driving me nuts... Any help would be appreciated. I'm rooted and deodexed.
I had this issue, I suspect I should have waited longer during the batch but....I was impatient, restarted. The one it got stuck on I had to manually do that one and then the batch worked.
I've had this issue as well. It's been with specific games.
Zenonia 2, for instance. Every now and then, when restoring this game, it will freeze and I will have to kill Titanium and restart the batch. I know it's freezing/hanging because when I kill it and start the batch again, Zenonia 2 takes nowhere near as long to restore as I had waited for it to finish the first time.
I've been having the disappearing apps issue with a select few games (Zenonia 2 being one of them). I will reboot for something, and suddenly certain games will be gone from my app drawer. Reboot again and they will reappear (most of the time, sometimes not all of them). I wonder if it's related....
I also have this, mostly game related. However, it hung on the XDA one today.

If you click on problems on the bottom of the app it will yell you how to fix the hanging issue

Good call.....this worked for me.
Sorry to bump a thread, but the suggestion did not work for me. Random apps still hang even after changing the application processing mode.
Are there any other suggestions I can try?
You can watch for what app hangs and do another backup and unchecked that app. Then go back and backup just that app.

Usually when some of my apps "hang" I just assume it because its got a lot of data to back up.
I have a lot of apps in most cases, so when i run a backup, i usually walk away and do something else anyway. So I don't even notice.
I thought the same thing, but I just got a hang on an app that was 523kb (RSA SecureID in this case). A 523kb app shouldn't take 15 minutes to restore data (before I killed the process). I even get hangs manually restoring items one at a time.
It seems like there's something Titanium Backup doesn't like about our phones.

I don't even use TTB anymore...Ever since I got AppExtractor.
AppExtractor allows you to extract apps straight from a CWM Backup (Nandroid). It even lets you restore SMS/MMS, Contacts, and Settings from a CWM Backup.
So instead of making a CWM backup AND backing up with TTB, you just make one CWM backup and you're set.
"I use Titanium Backup to freeze my bloat/system apps "
Yep, Appextractor does that too!
If you're getting Force Closes after restoring apps, press the Fix Permissions button within AppExtractor and there's a good chance of that fixing the problem.
There's just one catch.
The backup you pull from HAS to be done through ROM Manager.
If you use ROM manager anyway, you have nothing to worry about.
If you make the backup through ROM Manager but it still doesn't show up, you need to update CWR. Scroll to the top of ROM Manager, its the first option, just press it.
The best solution I found was to install from the market and then restore the data

That won't cut it for those people that have hundreds of downloaded apps

[Q] Unlock screen not showing

Right before the .902 update my swipe to unlock screen disappeared. I have since run the update hoping that would fix it. It did not. I re-rooted my phone, ran a backup with Titanium Backup, and performed a factory reset. The swipe to unlock screen came back and worked until i got to the point of restoring system data with Titanium Backup. At this point i am stuck with a phone that when woken goes right to the home screen without having to swipe. Given the timeline of when it stopped working again it has something to do with system data, but i have no idea what. Does anyone know what system data i should choose not to restore in order to regain this functionality?
you might have frozen a system app i would start freezing app by app till you find the culprit or follow the thread labeled apps you can freeze or something like that..
I have never frozen anything with the Titanium Backup, I use it strictly for backup and restore. I just double checked and nothing is frozen.
Try enabling disable loxkscreen I thinks it under sec rity maybe wiping dalvic and cache could do it sometimes that works for some odd reason

I've tried enabling and disabling a pattern, password, and pin to no avail. How would I wipe dalvic and cache as you suggest?
You have recovery right ?

Now that I think about it what exactly are you restoring in titanium meaning apps system app etc if you are restoring system app that might be the problem restore regular apps only see if that does it
Sent from my XT875 using XDA App
I'm not sure. I don't think so. I'm pretty new at this stuff.
Will that mean that I'll have to re setup all my ringtones, start all my games at the beginning, etc. if i don't restore the system data?
most likely its play your games from the begginging or keep your save point and have no lockscreen i am not 100 percent sure but that is the only thing i can think of i had to do that once it wasn't a lockscreen issue but i was a consistant force close issue reset titanium and didn't do system apps and it didn't force close anymore sometimes titanium is a problem someone chime in if i am off my rocker!!
let me ask this, what i would care about the most is not losing my texts. Do you know what system data would be responsible for that?
Not sure but I think there a SMS saver app don't know for I don't really care about texts

there is one its called SMS backup and restore

Backup Flash Restore

I do enjoy flashing new ROMs and tinkering with various settings, themes, etc. I always struggle with getting all my apps set backup.
I use Titanium Backup pro, but I still always have to reset personalizations, ring tones, default apps, app logins, etc. Is there a better way to make those kind of thing persistent across a backup/restore?

There is an app called "Rom settins backup" or something like that, though be warned. it's these personalisations which make us have to Wipe anyway, so if you were to restore them all, you may as well not wiped. Restore may cause bootloop, so it is just better to set them up each time and get used to it.

Always manual restore of settings etc.
I found out that rro/layers can be restored in system/vendor/overlay and will be active after reboot. So I have a backup copy of that directory.
