Theme fix not working - Fascinate Themes and Apps

So I'm trying to use the theme fix for DL09 to flash the midnight theme for DJ05 but I can't seem to get it working. I've tried every combo I can think of involving wipe cache, fix permissions, etc. Should I be wiping the dalvik cache? I'm not sure what the problem could be. I'm running franken kernel DL09 undervolted, on a stock deodexed rom that's i've successfully flashed the neongt DL09 theme to. Anyone who can give me some guidance would be much appreciated.
Edit: So i flashed adrynalynes super clean .4 rom, just to experiment, and wiped the dalvik cache and fixed permissions, and ended up with the boot screen running for a solid 15 minutes looping. Don't know if this helps. Rebooted again to the force close loop. Restoring old rom again. Bleh.

Just confirming that you are doing the following:
1. flashed the theme zip via red CWM
2. Before leaving recovery AND rebooting, applying the theme fix. In other words, flash the theme and immediately flash the theme fix.
3. Then reboot.
I am on DL09 and just recently flashed the theme (several others as well)..using the above steps.
Also, it may take a few minutes to fully boot up. I believe it is messing with android.policy.jar or one of those files, which causes a longer boot-up.
Hope this helps.

Ya, I've followed the instruction exactly, and then tried free style combos of factory reset, dalvik cache, fix permissions, etc. I can't seem to get this ironed out. Maybe I'm missing a step here but if it's only what you've mentioned above i'm dead on.

The Midnight Theme in particular seems to cause issues for those on DL09, even with full wipes and the theme fix.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but why is anyone still designing themes exclusively for DJ05? I would think everybody would be upgrading to DL09 ROMs now, and there's a surprising lack of theme support for DL09 for some reason. At the very least, I would expect any new themes created after the DL09 release to be compatible with it.

Too many issues with the CD rom instead of the USB drive and not everyone wants to use adrenaline kernal and on dj05 we have a choice and more themes : )

DL09 and DJ05 kernels aren't interchangeable. They either brick your phone, or cause force close loop when you mix and match.

I haven't gone to DL09 because I haven't read anything saying its different from DJ05.

This is completely incorrect. Yes, you can use a DJ05 kernel with a DL09 ROM perfectly fine. It will NOT be the cause of a brick / FC loop.

It's bricked me before, and they're listed specifically as DJ05 or DL09 in my experience. Why would roms be listed by DL09, DJ05 grouping? Not tryin to be snarky, but if you can link more info on the matter I'd really be interested in checkin it out. Truth be told i've only flashed DJ05 roms over a DL09 kernel now that I think about it. Works one way but not the other maybe?

kernels and roms are different. I believe you are correct about roms being picky about dj05 vs dl09, but I believe kernels are pretty interchangeable.

Ah ha, thanks for the clarification, yes the kernels go back and forth pretty easily. When flashing new roms though you should flash a rom appropriate to your kernel.

[ROM] JI6 OTA deodexed with stock JI6 kernel and modem

Hi everyone,
Saw a request for this in vibrant general, and while I'm sure most devs and cooks will have long since already deodexed the OTA JI6 for their own uses, hopefully this will still be of use to somebody.
So, that said, this is the stock JI6 OTA rom, fully deodexed, with the stock JI6 kernel and modem, pre-rooted with busybox installed.
NOTE: this was made from the "T959UVJI6 ## NEW" ODIN firmware posted a while back.
Many thanks to all the wonderful devs here, and especially to Eugene373 and Anomalous for provinding the original JFD deodexed base that I used to learn how to compile my own flashable roms.
Warning, this will wipe your data, and this has only been tested via clockwork recovery.
Download: Removed, sorry, caused problems for some people
Cheers everyone, =)
Thanks this is just what I needed.
Me too! I would also like to learn how to do this myself in future. I dual boot ubuntu 10.04 and windows 7, so any tips in either os?

Hi,
Sorry for the issue.
I'm honestly not sure why its happening, it didn't happen on my phone when I tested everything before uploading, and the bootclasspath's used for deodexing were the same that anomalous used for the original JFD deodexed rom. That said, admittedly, I usually run a personalized version of either frankin-twiz/hybrid or bionix rom daily, was only uploading this since I had already deodexed JI6 for personal use (I always like to build new theme's/mods from unmodified/stock files) and saw a request in general.
Anyway, at this point, since sombionix moved to the OTA files too, I'm probably not going to look into it or really support this, sorry.

Dragon ROMs, direct to ext4 install, voodoo5

What is this? It's an experimental ROM install setup that avoids the use of RFS entirely. The install basically pre-voodoo's your phone. If you know you want voodoo, this is faster than installing then doing voodoo, but it's a little more complicated. Not much, but be warned. It avoids the use of RFS durring install completely, so no RFS corruption to worry about.
The ROM itself is mostly untouched. The kernel is my Dragon Kernel, i9k based, so it will eat your battery (froyo only, eclair is better as we have source). I can get about 12 hours out of it. Buy a charger.
The new version is a 1-click install. It installs the kernel, reboots into it, then auto-installs the ROM. I tested it coming from JFD without issues.
These are based on voodoo5 beta code. Curio is releasing voodoo5 stable here soon, and I'll post an updated no-wipe kernel flash for that.
The ROMS are Team Whiskey Obsidian, Onyx, and Fusion. I changed the install procedure and the kernel out, the rest is as they made it. I take no credit for the ROM. Please post bugs here however, so I can make sure they are ROM bugs before letting TW know about them. I'm running the Onyx version as my daily driver. There has been some private beta testing, and they seem stable, but do have Odin handy just in case. I have installed over the top of various ROMs, but the safest way is probably to come from JFD just to be sure.
ALL THESE ROMS WIPE. NO, I WON'T CHANGE THAT.
Obsidian V5b: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Obsidian-Installer-v1.0.zip
Onyx 4.2: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Onyx-Installer-v1.0.zip
Fusion Final: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Fusion-Installer-v1.0.zip
NOTE: THESE INSTALL VOODOO. ALL THE USUAL VOODOO PRECAUTIONS APPLY, IF FLASHING SOMETHING, DISABLE IT FIRST.
The latest voodoo stuff seems to play nicer and I have flashed things from clockwork without bricking, but just be warned.
Updates:
Kernel with the stable voodoo5 release. Should work with any froyo ROM, does not wipe.

Curious! So what's the true (RFS free) Quadrant score for Vibrant?
Can we have just a kernel flash that will convert all the partitions? supercurio's i9000 flash doesn't wipe the data, it simply tars it and then untars it back once the conversion is done to each partition. Thanks for the hard work.

The post is about the ROMs, but yes, the kernel update I'm about to post will convert an existing system to ext4 on reboot with the just released voodoo5 stable code.
It's the custom kernel I reference in the OP. If you want more than about 12 hours off charger, don't install it. I'm going to look at Eugene's recently posted source to see if I can implement whatever he did to get the kernel sleeping better, but no promises. And reports are kind of mixed last time I looked at it anyway.
When Samsung gets around to releasing source, we can do better. Till then, give me a patch or don't complain about it.

Nice. I'll hold off trying this with Axura 2.1 until this posted, then. A battery life of 12 hours is fine in exchange for what Voodoo will provide in return.

Froyo Kernel on Eclair?
ttabbal,
I did not know that a Froyo kernel could be backward compatible to Eclair. Is that the case, given that your Dragon 2.0 incorporating Voodoo 5 Stable will work with Bionix Fusion?
Please help me to understand this.
More to the point, I am on Bionix 1.9.1. Would Dragon 2.0 w/Voodoo 5 Stable work on my setup?
Thanks,
Bruce
Would love to use this, however i cant seem to get anything to install from the market no matter what i do. My TitaniumBackup restores just fine(apps only). Ive ODIN'd back to JFD twice but still nada. Ill try starting from JI6 and see if it helps.

So I'm running ttabbal's latest kernel, 2.0, and just ran a quadrant. It gets 1564 as the score. Now, this isn't just from voodoo alone, he's done a few speed tweaked which will bump up the score. But it's snappy as hell.
"if you amplify everything, nothing is heard"
Just put this in my phone and its works fine I'm running axura 2.1 works fine but u will see a second boot up screen the benchmark test is not that high I got in the 2500 with the oclf inthe market download but can't do that one anymore it tells me I have one installed already but over all its smooth
Don't worry about benchmarks, they are easy to fool in a high level system like Android. Cyanogen managed to get something stupid like 10k out of Quadrant.
This setup isn't for being a benchmark queen. It's targeted at a couple things I deem important. Multitasking smoothness/performance, and a test of direct-to-ext4 install. The no-wipe voodoo kernel is really intended to be used as part of the whole, but like I said, it should work with any froyo. Note: NOT ECLAIR. If there is more demand for an eclair version, I'll consider updating my eclair ramdisk as well.
As for the market, couldn't say. It's NOT the rom/kernel though. The market is a finicky thing and sometimes just doesn't work. It's usually the server side or the app itself that has an issue though. There's also an update to Market for Froyo, it seems to be more stable. You should get it downloaded automatically after running for a while. To check, look at an app description, you should have a new tab "Related".
When I've had market problems, I fire up my Wife's G2 on a stock rom (not even root) and she does too, so it's not anything I, or anyone other than Google, can control.
Does anyone know whether the Dragon Kernel that works with any Froyo ROM available from the OP supports use of a BootAnimation.zip?
UPDATE: Thanks geoffcorey for the info!
Tried on Axura 2.1 with larger nand. Flashed, rebooted, converted with no issues and is running very well so far. Haven't been successful getting Voodoo to run before now.
Thanks to TW, ttabbal, Supercurio, et al.

I did this very thing in my post #16 above yours. Go for it! Remove any other lag fixes you may have though. I had none installed so I didn't have to do that. PERFORM A NANDROID backup and optionally copy to a computer before flashing the kernel to be safe. Restoring the Nandroid backup won't restore the kernel though.
The dangers are minimal if you backup. Permanently bricking the phone is unlikely. You may soft brick but you probably won't. PLUG IN AND DON'T TURN OFF THE PHONE UNTIL THE "TW" LOGO DISAPPEARS! Around this time, you will hear a voice say voodoo has been activated.
I believe the conversion process may attempt to revert the changes it tried to make in the event of an unsuccessful conversion. If reversion is successful then you should again have access to CWM to flash back to any rom you have stored on your phone. Use nandroid to restore your data and your back to normal.

[CM6][Theme][Edify]Gingerbread theme for cyanogenmod

Ok, this is the deal, READ THE THINGS IN RED.
THIS THEME IS NOT MINE. ORIGINAL, NON-EDIFY THREAD HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=867850 - This is for Evo but works on Epic.
I TRIED MAKE THIS EDIFY MYSELF BUT IT DIDN'T WORK. I FOUND THIS THEME ON GOOGLE AND DON'T KNOW WHO MADE IT EDIFY.
YOU NEED TO BE ON CYANOGENMOD FOR THIS THEME. THERE IS ANOTHER ONE FOR OTHER ROMS.
This will work with cwm 2 and 3.
Anyways, enjoy http://www.multiupload.com/YCKVXWZTHI
This gave me a boot loop, unfortunately.
Edit: Tried again after restoring Nandroid, working fine now for whatever reason. Very good theme.
I personally don't recommend this theme and advise everyone to stay away from flashing this, I can confirm that it caused issues for myself and may cause even more unforeseen problems as our CM6.2 ROM develops.
Wait for a proper CM6.2 Gingerbread theme or stick with DK28 and the Gingerbread theme for DK28.

For those with EB01 theme problems....

Ive noticed an abnormal number of issues (across forums and irc ive seen dozens and dozens of the same issues/questions) that people are having with themes for EB01. It seems the main problem is that many people are using the original EB01 leak and that IS NOT DEODEXED.
Your rom/system must be deodexed to use themes. Examples of deodexed roms are adryn's superclean...and now there is a full deodexed version of the eb01 leak.
As of now, you must have 1 of these 2 to use themes on EB01. Or either the theme won't take, or just some parts of it will, or some stuff won't stick after another reboot.
Hope this helps clear the air.

This should have gone in the Mosaic IV Q&A section. And to answer your question...Typically when installing themes you want to make sure the theme was made using the same firmware version that you are running. Such as a JVH theme should be applied to a JVH rom. Also you could have asked in the theme thread how to install the theme, but I checked it out for you. It's a CWM file. Just flash it in recovery, but make sure you make a back-up in case something gets messed up.
I did verify that it was a jvh rom. but i did not know how different the captivate & I9000 are. just wanted to make sure.
When you make sure i back up, what do you mean excatly? back up theme, if so how? or do you mean back up rom, kernel?

I tried a couple themes from over in the i9000 forum .. You got that because those themes are not 100% compatible with our roms. The Cappy devs tweak stuff in the framework a little differently because of hardware differences etc and that causes mismatches, especially with themed apps like contacts. I had the worst case of that ever when I flashed a theme over mosaic 3 and my dialer would give me that message after every number i typed in. crazy things can happen Its best to just to wait it out until the Mosaic team port all their stuff, that way you wont have any problems at all. They have all the best themes anyways.
