Is there any good app for android to delete duplicate contacts?
Sync your contacts with Gmail and then use Gmail Contacts feature to remove / merge duplicates.

Hi All,
Just got my Vibriant and had a quick question. I send alot of group emails and text messaging. I sync'd all my exchange, gmail and facebook contacts and they all show up under their own specific groups. I am able to create a group, but when I go to add a contact, it says no contacts? I also, try to go to the specific contact that I want to add but their is no where to select a group?
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!
Ha, I thought I was the only one that couldn't figure this out. I gave up after screwing with it for 5 minutes.
I think grouping is not available for google contacts. Its only for "phone" contacts

OK that explains it all my contacts are google contacts.
So would I need to import some how the corporate contacts that I have to the phone contacts to customize my own group? I will try... Another thing that I notice, I have 384 coporate contacts and if you long hold your corporate group you can check mark the contacts that you want but for me that's a long process...

Android market, search XDA
Hey All, just uploaded an app from the marketplace called "Groupy" and it solved my problem! You can pick contacts and move them into your groups you created in your contacts! Once you do that you can go back into your contact app and send a group sms!
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
I have the answer! I had some problems with this as well. The best way that I have found to do this is:
1. Download Contacts2Sim from the marketplace
2. Use it to transfer all of your contacts to your sim card
3. Select the contacts you want and go to your phone and transfer them one by one from sim to phone.
4. Now that they are on the phone you can set up groups using with the contacts that you just moved over.
5. Once you set up your group, go back to contacts2sim app and delete the contacts from the sim
6. Restarting the phone will remove the duplicate entries from your contact list.
That should be it. Took me a day to figure it out. Any questions, feel free to email me at [email protected] or post a reply here.
Ryan
Hope this helps someone, I downloaded Groupy and was about to D/L another app; I found you can set sms groups with the android software (SGS) NO OTHER APP NEEDED;
1. copy contact from SIM to phone
2. open contacts
3. go to groups
4. open menu and create your group
5. open your group and select (add) contacts
happy group SMSing
Maybe the wrong place for this question, so if it is direct me accordingly, is there a way to merge my gmail account to my yahoo account for my phone's main login? Or maybe a combination sync to both?

Does check marking the sync on both accounts for say something like contacts or calendar merge the two? I hope my question is clear as mud!

I think you have to just manually pull out your contacts from yahoo into your gmail account. Or I know gmail allows you to pull your contacts out and put them into a different format, but I'm not sure if yahoo will allow you to upload that file into contacts. You can merge gmail contacts though if you can get them all in there.
Personally I hate yahoo cause they don't allow anywhere near the flexibility that gmail does unless you pay them.

Well google's flexibility is bar none. To get my facebook contacts into google+ I had to import all of my facebook friends to a yahoo account, then was able to import yahoo into G+. So I would imagine it shouldn't be hard when setting up a gmail account to get all contacts and emails imported.
So we have the s planner on our notes. I was just wondering if you can sync google calendar with it or is there a google calender app?

Add your gmail account, then open SPlanner>Setting>Calendars...mostly you will have all calendars check box ticked and then you will also see gmail account mentioned so click on arrow and select that. it will synch your google calendar.
thanks for the help!
Hello guys
I changed my phone to z. Restored all the contacts from my old phone to new one.
After this is done. For few contacts I can't find their name or number when I search it using smart dial or phonebook search. But when that user calls me up his name n no. Flashes on the screen n stays in the call log. Later vanishes.
Could anyone help me to get all those hidden contacts.
Thank you.

Did you make a backup of all your contacts on Googleaccount on your previous phone
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Nope. I dint backup to a Google account.
I used wondershare mobilego.
My old phone was HTC wildfire we could not keep 2 Google accounts in it old version of android so I dint backup n dint want to mess up my primary account.
N in this phone I backed up all the contacts to a gmail account.
But I can't find it in phone.
I.e. When I try to find contacts In phone home screen last tab after favorites. Three persons icon where u can find local groups n Google account
In Google account the count is 0 , though I backed up the contacts.

Go to your contacts, optiond -> filter, expand the gmail account you used and make sure the correct group has a tick in the checkbox.
Thank you.
But in gmail account I checked all the sub fields.
When I backed up all my contacts to that gmail account.
After logging into gmail from my pc I'm able to see those contacts.
But in phone I can't find them under the Google account tab.

Re-sync maybe?
Could be duplicated numbers or names?
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Yup.
I had so many duplicates must be *3
Coz I had the Facebook sync on old phone.
That's the reason I used mobilego app to delete the duplicate. It worked well.
Still I have few duplicates. Very few I don't bother much with it.
But if I factory reset n sync my gmail account will I be able to restore my contacts.
I doubt coz I'm not able to find them in my phone.
I'm planning to root. So will have to be doing a factory reset many times. I'm new to root.

Resynced everything contacts calender etc.
No change

Sync your contacts to Google than open your gmail on your pc and check if all your contacts are there before doing a factory reset.
In gmail there is an option to merge all duplicated contacts

This happened to me too. I found out the contacts merged somehow O_O it's apparently a problem that other people have (Google it) as well. I painstakingly just unmerged every single one manually
Check if the contacts are merged!

My Z merges contacts with every single reset or flashing of the phone. Became a bit wearisome.
I am on a Nexus 6 with the latest Android 5 release. When I go to the contacts app and set to display only one specific group of contacts from my google account then the contacts app will only display those contacts. How ever the dialer app will completely ignore those settings and always display all contacts on any of my accounts.
In the past the contacts app and dialer app worked together. So when I told the contacts app to display only the group "work" then the contacts app as well as the dialer app would only display the conctacts within the group "work".
I tried deleting data from "contacts" app and "contacts storage" as well as the "dialer" app. I disabled syncing, re-synced, etc... dialer will always ignore the contacts app settings and since the dialer app doesn't have an option to hide contacts, there is no way I csn currently hide contacts with stock contacts/dialer app?
Thanks
