How to apply a theme? Like generation x theme?
Can someone give me a link or teach me how to do it?

Doesn't the thread tell you how to? You need CWM recover and install it as a zip file. Or you can rename it to update.zip and install it using 2e recovery. Just put it in the root of your internal SD (as in not inside any folder) and select "install update.zip" in recovery mode.

Does anyone have the captivate froyo that was leaked in update.zip form? I have a mac so I have to use clockwork not Odin.
Thanks,
Tyler
Sure, just rename any of the roms to update.zip . And there you go.
Problem is I cant seem to find a rom that isn't a Odin .exe

senior member and that's the advice you give?
First off, this isn't a development based question... and second.. you cannot just take a rom and rename it to update.zip and flash it successfully via stock 2e recovery.
Most roms on this forum are in a .zip format. However you will need to apply through rom manager/clockwork recovery. Any rom OP will have FAQ's and thorough instructions. So I advise that you read, read, read, read and then flash!
This is what I use:

There are plenty of others in .zip format. You technically don't have to rename anything. Just choose it inside of clockwork. And also, I probably wouldn't change the name to update.zip because that is what the Clockwork recovery software is labeled as.
I'm pretty sure any of the current roms such as cog are able to be renamed to update.zip via astro file manager. I'm currently running Geo which can be renamed to update.zip

Not a mod but I would suggest Q&A
Swyped...and sorry I don't proofread
I tried installing this ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880859
I got the phone rooted, organized Rom Manager and got the ClockworkMod Recovery going.
I placed the zip file for the mod in the root of the phone memory.
The issue is that upon booting into clockworkmod, I do not get any option to flash the rom, only the regular options such as reboot etc.
Any idea why this wouldn't show?
I am using the "Install from SD card" in rom manager, tried a few other roms same issue. It seems as though the CWM isn't seeing the zip files in the root of the phone memory Sad I even tried renaming the file update.zip

you arent supposed to rename the rom file to update.zip
when you flash clockwork recovery manager it puts an update.zip on your /sdcard for you. you have to select reinstall packages let it reboot back to recovery then select reinstall packages again.
I know. I did not rename the file initially. I put the original rom zip file in the root directory. I use the install from memory card option on rom manager but when it reboots into the recovery area I see no option to use the rom file.
root directory? u mean very "root"(/) right?
have u try to put the rom in the home directory? path is /mnt/sdcard
If its a blue screen than u have to hit reinstall packages if your in the green screen then under where it says reboot there should be a choice that says install zip from SD card pick that one and u should then be able to see your rom.

you wouldn't happen to know a good page with step by step instructions?
no...im sorry
I have also just recently rooted my phone and what I did was download the .zip file for a theme and renamed it update.zip then put it onto my sd card, then went into recovery and installed the update.zip file then rebooted my phone and that worked just fine for me
Update.zip is how you get into Clockwork Recovery, so you definitely don't want to rename another file to that...
Boot into CWM by holding volume - volume + and power, select "apply:update.zip", then "install zip from sd", "select zip from sd", find the zip and install. Then reboot. Note: you need to be running a deodexed ROM in order for themes to work properly

Really, cuz that's what I did and I didn't have any problems, my phone is working just fine, and I can still get into recovery.
There is ABSOLUTELY no need to rename the file update.zip just put the file on your sdcard, get into recovery (easiest way is to hold down power and press recovery in the menu) click apply zip from SD, click the file and click install...done

if there are two files that i downloaded for a theme... such as META-INF and System, would i put them both in the same file when moving them to the SD card then just name the file something.zip? or would i only change the name of one of the two files? also am i able just to reboot into recovery from rom manager in order in install this file ?
to install a theme....
1. download it
2. put it on your sdcard (i make folders ie themes, roms, kernels)
3. boot into cwr
4. wipe cache (optional imo)
5. select install from sdcard
6. navigate to theme file
7. flash it
8. reboot
9. profit (optional)

Using rom manager is completely fine, I haven't tested it with the new recovery I've been using the shutdown menu but don't see.why it wouldn't work.
You don't have to extract any of those files from the zip just leave them in there, leave the zip on your sdcard and navigate to it through recovery. Its easier to put the zip in the root of your sdcard for easy access but if the zip is in downloads or something for whatever reason you can just click the downloads folder andthen the file then install.
Also after you install you might need to press your search button to go back a page then click reboot and you're good

Hi,
I'm trying to install custom roms on my Milestone and have hit a brick wall.
I've looked at and followed the Instructions threads (rooted & did a nandroid backup) and they refer to having to apply an "update.zip" file in Open Recovery to actually get the cutom rom. Problem is that I've downloaded both CM7 and Miui rom files but when I unzip them they don't have an update.zip file in them.
They just have the following
META-INF (folder)
system (folder)
boot.img (img file)
Question is... How do I flash these files to apply the custom rom?
(Can't ask questions in the development part of the forum as I don't have 10 posts yet)
Thanks
anyone?

well, just know it from xrecovery (come from the x10 mini pro) and AFAIK the zip you extracted already was the update.zip - rename downloaded zipfile to update.zip, then flash it
k thanks dude.

the file does not need to be called update.zip. it is a generic term for the format of "update"
simply put the CM7 zip file in the openrecovery\updates folder subfolder of your sdcard.
you should then be able to see the file in the update menu of your recovery.
i got CWM4 in my SGA, can i know what is the step to upgrade it to CWM5?
i downloaded CWM5 zip file from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1552695
is that direct update with this zip or i need to delete my CWM4 first ?
if need to delete before install CWM5, how to delete it ?
No need to delete, just install zip from sd card. Just make sure you don't have the i, m or c model ace.
