Hey,
If i want my galaxy to be like a tablet with no 3g. What do i need to turn off to have zero connections?
I already found:
Disable gps
Disable wifi
Disable 3g
Disable map data(option below 3g)
Enable plane mode
Is that all or are some things still gkving off connections/raxiation? If so, what.
Thx

Just enabling airplane mode will do everything you want

Hello,
I would like to kmow if it's possible to only disable the phone but keep the 3g or the wifi connection?
A airplane option, but juste for the phone....
Thanks
i think not as 3g is working over your carrier coverage so it is using phone signal...and wi-fi should work in airplane mode normally

I'm looking for a widget that will turn off my cell phone radio and operate my N1 as WiFi only. Is this possible? I'm traveling overseas and would like to selectively attach to the GSM network, but want to keep the phone on for Wifi.
You could do this with Tasker.. setup a task that turns both airplane mode and wifi on, and create a widget for the task.
Stock power control widget will do it. Turn on airplane mode then wifi.

It's definitely POSSIBLE. I would suggest just using a widget to turn off 3G, and leave wifi enabled. When I went over my data on my plan, I turned off 3G and it just stayed off for a week, no problems. I'm not really sure you would benefit from anything more complicated.
There are many widgets that will turn off 3G (i.e. data)

Great idea... I don't have Tasker, but do have Quick Profiles, so built myself a customer widget that turns on Airplane mode, but turns on Wifi... that's what I wanted to do.
I always hate going into the settings to enable/disable data. Is there a widget in the market that does that?
Good question.
How would a 3G switch function differently than enabling Airplane mode?
Curious as well...

Kinda but no. Switchpro widget has both airplane and 3g on/off switches. As of right now only the airplane part works.

Yes! Theres an app for free called Widgetsoid in the Market. I just found out about it today in the 'post your homescreens' thread. Works great!

So what is the difference between Airplane mode and turning off 3G?
I am pretty sure airplane mode kills wifi and bluetooth as well, thou you can turn wifi back on.

I use Widgetoid (think thats it). Turn on Airplane mode and you're all good. Just need to switch back on WiFi.

There is no officially supported way to disable 3G besides Airplane Mode. Airplane Mode disables the 3G radio, while widgets just change the APN to something that doesn't work.

You can disable 3G from mobile network settings. Just uncheck data enabled.

Sangreal, What benefit (or not) would this have over engaging Airplane mode?

Airplane mode disables all of the radios, and you have to re-enable them each time you power the device on.

I've noticed that unchecking that doesn't actually power down the 3G radio. It will still show up in the power monitor under settings. I'm aslo curious if there is a way without using airplane mode to have the tablet not bug about activation every time it starts up.
Thank you!

True, but I meant from a programming standpoint, so a widget could do it. Maybe it's been added in the 3.0 SDK but I haven't heard about it. I know google took out the ability to turn on and off the 3G with a program because it can cost users money.
Im sure there are many people out there who bought their tab second hand on craigslist or ebay and ect.... thats my situation.
i have a galaxy vibrant, and am on the simple mobile unlimited plan. ($60 unlimited everything) so i dont use verizon because i tether to my tab using the vibrant. i noticed the radio taking up a good 8% of my battery after 3 hours of standby. so i wanted to disable this since i dont use it. after trying many different apps like apn on/off and others, i realized none work. then i found the solution to be ridiculously simple.
1. go to settings
2. go to wireless settings
3. Hit Airplane Mode ( But that kills wifi so damn)
4. go to wifi settings
5. Enable wifi (It enables wifi while still under airplane mode, thus killing the cdma radio)
there dilema resolved.
now im getting an extra 20% battery life over a full discharge. <3
good luck
Great Idea. THIS SHOULD BE A STICKY.
Just set up my Galaxy...
Thanks.
Good instructions for newbies, but an old topic. And you can't use bluetooth when you are in airplane mode.
Maybe switch.off mobile data. Also when not using toggle wifi off

Or just dial *#*#4636#*#* and switch the radio off
I have to do after each reboot
Thanks guys!
You can also use the Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool app, I've been using it for awhile and it works perfectly. It sets it to airplane mode and allows you to use wi-fi in airplane mode. It also stays after reboot. It also allows you to use bluetooth in airplane mode, though I haven't tried this feature yet.

I have a question. Im using Gingervread 2.3.3 . I find it irritating to restart my phone if i just turn off my WiFi to use my 3 G. Is there any other way for my 3g to turn on itself once i off wifi?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA Premium App
just on the 3g by hold the power button for a second , and choose Data network mode and active it , after you use your wifi it will off , and after you aren't useing wifi it will on by itself
I have done that. My data network have never been deactivated before. But sometimes when i off my WiFi, my 3g doesnt on. Need to restart my phone then it will on.

I knowm but for my case, i off wifi, 3g doesnt automatically connect. I need to restart my phone then it will.
