whenever i use opera in landscape mode, the "display message on screen" in sounds and notification gets disabled. does anyone know how to disable automatic screen rotation?
Check this out...
Install this and in the settings screen, select the 'exceptions' tab, and where Opera is listed, put a tick in the portrait check box. This will force Opera to remain in portrait.
Not only that, this is the best app ever for handling screen rotation on the Diamond. It just works, and it's simple to set up
i installed it and it did work but it switched to landscape before it quickly switched back to portrait though. so that still causes the problem

There's a cab at the end of the thread.
Is there a method by which I can auto-rotate the lock screen and/or dialer? I'm running Liberty3 2.0 and ADWLauncher.
Have you gone settings > display > auto-rotation? They should auto-rotate when the keyboard is open, but this will allow (for sure) the dialer to rotate once unlocked. I'm not sure if your lockscreen will even with it checked.
I have it set but when the KB is closed the dialer and lock screen don't rotate. I have a regular holder in my car, not a dock, and its pretty annoying when I call from my headset and the dialer comes up sideways :-/
There is a hack that allows you to do this. It hink there called power widgets or something. Also many of the custom roms have this

There's an app in the market called Smart Rotate which allows you to force rotation on individual applications.

If I want the screen permanently in portrait mode I can switch off "Auto rotate screen".
But how can I achieve permanent landscape mode?
(I'm on ICS)
Many thanks.

What're you using ?
If you are using touchwiz landscape is impossible.
For some other launchers(like Apex) set orientation to permanent landscape
I'm running LauncherPro over ICS. But in fact my problem is solved as I'm successfully in permanent landscape mode thanks to the app "Ultimate Rotation Control".
Hey all
I typically like to use my phone in portrait mode, and only want to rotate when I'm watching videos or when I'm viewing photos.
I have used rotate switches, and whilst they work perfectly, I was wondering if there is a solution to what I want.
Is there a mod/app/rule that we can set up so that the phone enables auto rotation in the Album? even if the screen is locked to portrait?
thanks

I use adaptive rotation lock. This has the ability lock apps in different modes.

^Yeah even I prefer to keep my phone in portrait mode at all times, so I know that it's kinda annoying to toggle it on/off every time before opening the album app!
Although I couldn't find any solution for the same, there is a simple workaround. Just search for "ScreenRotate Small App" in Play Store. Using this, at least you could save yourself the hassle of navigating through the Settings every time to toggle it on/off!
you can use Tasker and create a rule to turn on auto rotate when you open the gallery (and other) apps and turn off auto rotate when you exit it

In the Tasks, you create one for turning on auto-rotate (action -> display -> display rotation -> on) and one for turning off (action -> display -> display rotation -> off). So there's 2 tasks total for this. Then in profiles, create one based on Application context, choose the applications you want and hit back, then pick the Enter task (auto-rotate on). Then long-hold the Enter task that just showed up, and choose Add Exit Task, where you'll pick the auto-rotate off task.
If you still need help (and if I have time later), I can add screenshots of the process.
So when I turn off auto rotate in the quick settings menu it always switches to portrait mode. Am I missing something? How do I lock it in landscape?
I think they just removed it. Landscape lock still exists on tablets. My Nexus 9 has it but not on Nexus 6
