Do not use these kind of chargers (Kill battery) - HD2 Accessories

Hi!
Bought this charger ages ago, started charging my batteries nowadays, and they got broken.
I might have left them on too long, not sure. After charging them a couple of times they gave false temperature/drain data to the phone.
For example:
With fully charged battery, phone displayed random % details like 1%, or 40%, etc.
With fully chardged battery flash in winmo didn't want to turn on, coz battery was low the phone thought
some Android roms failed to boot with the broken batteries. They were fine with a new one.
Sometimes they work ok.
With 15%, plugged in the original charger for 1 sec, after disconnect battery seemed to be on 100% for a couple of minutes and started counting down pretty fast, like a couple of % a minute
I "lost" an original default battery and an original htc extended battery :-(
So here is something to avoid. Got it from China.

thanks for the advice, I was just about to buy one

Was using them in my HTC Legend for a while, didn't notice any side effects.
Haven't got one for the HD2 yet.

The problem affected 2 htc batteries, shortly after I started using the charger. Maybe it is only me who has a defective charger. Maybe I left them on the charger too long (max12hours), but that shouldn't be a problem. To tell you the truth, this isn't the first time I had problems with cheap accessories from China in the last couple of years.
The quality of these products are often appalling.
Had a similar charger for my xperia x1, had no problems though...

I think its just only you with a defective charger, i have used this kind of charger for all my 4 batteris for about 6 months now and there is nothing wrong with it. Buy a new charger The charger stops charging the battery when the led turns blue so it works fine here
and it charges fully batteri for about 1-2 hours , it takes loonger with charging via phone

i've been using this type of charger for a while
(on both a stock battery & the replacement it came with).
i haven't had any issues with it to date

That thing looks like one of those cheap ass Chinese chargers that will break anything it's connected to. I know from experience - I had an external Molex (HDD) connector that caught fire while plugged in - NEVER again. That thing probably has NO overcharge control.

yes it has

Most likely the OP got a bad one
I have been using various Chinese chargers for the past several years (with various phones). I just finished charging my spare with one of them. They do have overvoltage circuits, and they would not sell ones that don't - they want to sell more of them, and having them catch fire or explode is not good business.
But quality control can have one slip through sometimes, and of course there is little recourse when this happens - the company is in China!
EDIT: I should also point out that there are no options. I don't think there are US, Japanese, or TW made models, though I haven't made a detailed search.
EDIT EDIT: Except for the boxwave charger, which has both a desktop holder and a spare battery charger. But even then I don't know where boxwave has them made - probably China...
http://www.amazon.com/BoxWave-Deskt...5X42/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1297185146&sr=8-3

i'm using this now and so far no problems at all. i think there's a problem with your charger.

The charger eventually died. No lights or anything.

Thanks for the advice

I've just bought one of these chargers from e bay.it was from a UK seller . And I also got 2 batteries ,
Will let you know what happens

I got two (probably just a defective batch) and for some reason they discharged my batteries rather than charging them. I just thought that was kinda odd. If anyone else has any recommendations for an alternative external charger I'm all ears as my previous HD2's usb port broke off from wear and I'd like to prevent that from happening again.

I have the same charger and i have used it for over a yeah and i still get 1 day of full battery use like always
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App

Those of you with working chargers, where'd you get them from?

I bought the same type: http://cgi.benl.ebay.be/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250796662523 (beware that these have US power socket)
The charger and one of the two batteries are working pretty well here. The other battery was discharged very fast. I think the charger stops charging before it's full. Anyway, for that price it doesn't really matter.

I've been using an identical one for over a year and haven't had any problems. Sounds like you got a defective unit.
There are disadvantages I've noticed though - they only charge to 99% (according to phone stats) and, unless I'm imagining it, the battery drains faster from 99-15% and then slowly 'til it gets down to 1% compared to a regular mains charge.
Also the USB output trickle-charges and takes forever to fully charge the battery in the phone. Only good for overnight.
I've got 3 batteries - 2 stock HTC's and one cheap Chinese one as I often find myself in situations where I'm going to need to use the phone for more than a few hours of heavy use - so a charger like this is worth it for me!

Same problems
Same charger from ebay. Killed about 5 batteries (had 5 total in rotation and didn't narrow it down to the charger until now....)
STAY AWAY!

Thanks for sharing your important things. if you did not share with me about this then i will buy this type charger. no no. :silly: i want to use USB charger.. if anyone reply me ? is it good for me ?

Portable power packs (on the go chargers) solar+USB

I often spend time away from mains power or places where i will be able to safely leave a phone ( or other gadget) plugged into the mains on charge un attended.
At the moment i hav been using a power monkey explore solar charger to keep my gadgets alive, this can charge via the its solar panel, or via the mains, and then charge my gadgets up overnight ( usually ) in my tent, so my phone is/was ready to go with a full charge in the morning, and the power monkey could then go in the sun, or sit connected, and un attended on a mains supply during the day.
Ice just done an expreiment with the power monkey explore to see how it copes with the increased demands of the Motorola Defy, and i dont think it will be able to cope as the charger has virtually exhausted itself getting my Defy from 20% to 60%, and its slightly warm to the touch.
The charger battery is rated at 2200mah, and i have had the device for a few years, so that rating may be a little lower in reality.
So has anyone got any recommendations for a portable charger/solar charger that could charge the defy from 20% up to 100% for three days or more?
A 2,200mAh should do the trick on the Defy's 1,500mAh battery, otherwise the charger's battery is exhausted and needs replacement. F.e., my 1,000mAh A-solar charger adds (only) 40% max. w w w.a-solar.eu
Take a look at the JBC rugged phones and the chargers they come with. It is a usb charger with a mechanical coil. You need to wind it to charge it up. Something like that will be a long term plan that will stay with actually no replacable parts.
Something like this.

Veho Pebble: 5000mAh battery. Will charge the Defy at least twice easily. Have one myself and it's great.
Have you thought about the powergorilla or the minigorilla
The power monkey Explore test may have been a little bit short, as the unit was only charged up showing all the bars on the LCD screen, and not the green LED as well.
In the meantime ive picked up a New Trent Extreme IMP1000 with a Li-poly battery rated at 11,000Mah the unit feature a DC input jack, a power button with 3 LEDS to indicate remaining charge, and a single USB power output.
I usually plug my defy into the IMP1000 charger after a day at work, with the battery down to 40/30% let it reach 100% charge( about 1 1/2 to 2 hours) unplug it, use the DEfy in the evening then leave it hooked up overnight to the IMP1000
This will be the 3rd night that i have repeated this process with the IMP1000 and it still has 2 out of 3 LEDs left on its power gauge, phone taking charge as normal.
How about using the powerchimp but with some more powerfull AA batteries like these
http://www.picstop.co.uk/uniross-27...=google&utm_medium=base&utm_campaign=products
I tried a powerchimp, and the batteries inside that got extremly hot ( 2,500mah GP NimH) this is usually caused by a high current drain on the batteries, and it isnt good for the batteries.
As for on the go devices so far, ive got a New trent imp1000 power pack ( which im currently testing ) a power monkey explore, a 4 AA battery USB power pack (two AA batteries in series ) a 4 AA solar charger ( chameleon) that also charges via USB, as well as 5v USB power out
As for other devices that need need power, when im away from the mains, these are: a cannon camera ( with li-ion power pack ), MP3 player, Motorola Defy
As for the New trent IMP1000 charge pack its now on Day 4, its charged my DEfy from 20% 3.681v up to 100% 4.164v in 2 hours and 20 minutes, (measured using the battery status app ) Later this evening, just before i go to bed i will hook it up again for an overnight charge, the Trent IMP1000 power pack is still showing 2 out of 3 LEDs on its power gauge.
Nokia has released a bike charger. You only have to reach about 10mph in order to reach wall socket charger efficiency (1000mA).
I believe they're about to release a micro-USB version of it. However there's an android dude already converting the existing nokia charger:

I use a MiniGorilla. Has inbuilt 10000mAh battery and lasts almost 2 weeks on charging my phone regularly without requiring a charge up itself.
Regular charging = ~every 2 days
It also turns itself off once the phone is fully charged to save its own battery.
I have one of these cheap "no-name" emergency chargers than runs on 1AA battery. However I'm pleasantly surprised: it runs up to (or rather down to) 0.7-0.8V, it has reasonable efficiency (and consequently it doesn't heat up too much), might be a good option if you have to maintain some bunch of AAs already (if you have a camera with 4AAs you already need to have 8 if you want spares).
I also have 2 small solar panels but they're more of a gimmick. Sure, even the small old one will run a small radio directly but we're talking 10-20mA. The radio will otherwise run off 2AAs for countless weeks (especially if you turn it on only when listening to it), it wouldn't even make sense to run it on rechargeables.
I run the numbers based on specs on solar chargers that catch my eye occasionally and it seems that you need to charge for quite a few days from the solar panel to pay for its own size and weight; that is in ideal conditions - in reality it will be more like over 1 week, possibly more (or rather never unless we're talking some serious expedition without access to power for multiple weeks, is there even such thing nowadays?).
However this MiniGorilla looks really great. Not cheap but it will even charge notebooks (or most likely netbooks). I already marked it as a potential gift, it belongs to the category "I would never buy one but if I have it I would use it regularly" (as opposed to the category "expensive crap that ends up in the attic if I don't re-gift or ebay it quickly").

Given the low cost of good quality NiMh batteries these days i don't see the problem, if you lower the life span to only 100 charges (which is highly unlikely) its still only pennys. I use a 1 hour charger for my NiMh batteries and the batteries are too hot to handle when they come off charge and i have to say i have not noticed a shorter lifespan.

Charging N7 with Phone charger

Hey everyone, I just want to check something,
I left my N7 stock charger at my mates house and he's on holiday for a couple of weeks so I'm using my HTC phone charger to charge my N7, it has the same connection and I'm using my original charging cable anyway. It seems to be charging my unit fine, but I just want to check I'm not gonna roast my battery or anything
The output of the charger is 5V / 1A
Thanks.
It'll probably charge your N7 really slow as the oem charger is 2 A. I personally wouldn't use it because it'll charge slowly, which I would think could cause problems down the road.

I have used a bunch of different chargers all from either another cellphone or Bluetooth headset, they all work, they charge it slow but they all work, yes I have tried both AC and car charger, I have not tried an iCrap charger but will soon,
the battery was completely dead I plugged it in to a Motorola Bluetooth headset charger left it went to sleep in the morning 6 hours later it was only at 46% charged, took it to the car drove to work plugged in to a Nokia car charger and in 45 minutes drive charged it from 46% to 78% got to work plugged it in to a Samsung phone charger and let it finish charging, the Nexus is fine, yes they all work just a bit slow. I dont do this all the time just when I forget the charger at home or something, not sure if it harms the battery either but I imagine not.
Worst case it may overheat your charger since it isn't 2A-rated.
It depends on if the charger has internal current limiting or just heats up when overloaded.
This charger with me a long time, it really is very durable and I fell a few times or you can use, the most important is that it is not very expensive

That doesn't make sense to me....But that's fine. I rather not trust it and stick with the oem. I've read stories about chargers over heating because there wasn't enough juice coming through. All set with that.

Charger overheating and charging speed are 2 different thing. Charging it slower is better for the battery. Charger overheating is just means the charger is either **** or not designed correctly for the task...
FYI, charging it up to 80-90% of the capacity (rather than all the way to 100%) also help the battery in the long run. I wish i know how to configure when the nexus stops the charging when it reach certain %.

I know the difference between charger overheating and charging speed. Point is, imo, I'm giving my opinion that I don't think charging the N7 with something that isn't 2A is not good. Whether my opinions are right or wrong doesn'tmatter...I'm just saying I wouldn't charge the N7 or any device with anything other than the oem charger. When I bought my first android, the G1, I charged it for a good month at work with a generic charger that didn't have the same specs as the oem and my battery went to crap.

Powermod Quick Charge 2.0 Certified D/C In-Vehicle Car USB Charger
Both chargers are as fast as advertised over my stock HTC A/C charger that came with the phone and my Rockfish car charger I've been using since my HTC Vivid days.
They both came in nice retail packaging and the Powermod car charger comes with a nice (but short) USB cable. The Tenergy wall charger has an LED on it and it is blue when an non QC 2.0 device is plugged in and turns green when a QC 2.0 compliant device is plugged in. Unfortunately the car charger doesn't have this feature. It has a blue light that rings the device but only indicates that it has power. It doesn't change color when a QC 2.0 compliant device is plugged in.
I have found that both of these chargers will not charge my Asus Transformer TF201. I find this strange because I've used other USB style wall chargers with my Asus data cable (the transformer has a proprietary changing port connector) that worked just fine. Still doing research on that one but I'll not be using these to charge my tablet. I just wanted to point this out as some of these QC manufactures say they are backwards compatible with most devices. YMMV.
I've been using both for about 3 weeks and am very happy with the performance of both units.
Below is data from a series of comparison tests to show how much faster the Qualcomm QC 2.0 chargers are over stock type chargers. The data in the HTC vs. Tenergy charger is an average of 4 charges per device. The HTC vs. Tenergy temperature comparison chart is through one full charge cycle from below 20% to 100%. As you can see the QC 2.0 does charge at a higher temperature. I also took the temperature while charging on QC 2.0 with my DotView case on and at 50% the temperature on the back of the case was 91.4 F. I have taken my phone temperature after heavy gaming and the back has actually gotten hotter just playing games than at any time during the charging cycle with QC2.0. I used a IR handheld thermogun we use at work.
The Powermod and Rockfish data is from my commute to and from work that is on average 30 minutes. There are 4 charge cycles for each devise over a 30 minute period.
Conclusion:
The performance of both units is great compared to stock. Since I can already get a full day worth of battery with between 15 and 20% left after a typical day both these chargers just make life easier. If you have to go somewhere but still have 30 minutes before you leave you can "top off" your battery before leaving if you are low. Example, you realize you have less than 10% battery but have some time before you have to leave. Plug you QC 2.0 charger in and get to at least 50% in that time. I feel much better walking out the door with 50% than 10%. With the car charger you can keep your battery "topped off" between destinations. Time will tell on the longevity of the phone battery and the chargers themselves.
I hope you've found this helpful.
I recommend both of these units.:good:
Images do not work here...
OP,
Some links would be nice. I rarely ever have any issues with running out of power like you have stated. I usually charge while i'm at my desk at work all day, and when I sleep at night, and I never have had an issue with an empty battery. I'm sure some people do have trouble with that; like those who spend all day on the phone, but I'd like to see which products you are talking about, OP.
Thanks!

Actually I'm not sure why my pictures are not showing up. I have my pictures set to public. I'll move them and try another location as soon as I get to work.
I see the pictures.........anyone else see them?
Pictures are working now. And holy cow..that's some impressive work Thanks for taking the time to test it all!
Thanks for the input.
I have the Tenergy wall charger and I have been pleased with the results. I will probably buy the same car charger you have next.
Glad everyone seeing the data now. I put this together because of all the questions on QC 2.0 that past few months.
BTW - I do crap like this all the time at work so it really wasn't that much work other than gathering the data. The charts etc took less than an hour to create after I had all the data I wanted.
Cheers mate!
Great data indeed

The car charger doesn't indicate if it's charging at QC 2.0 specs. Only the wall charger does that. The only way you can tell that the car charger is doing it's QC 2.0 is by the battery level or using an inline USB current meter that will show the charge rate.
Sorry for the confusion, I'll update my review.

First thing guys i did not started this with a comparission in mind, i was just troubleshoting my phone but while i was testing all the chargers i have laying the house it seemed to me like a good idea to take note and share my findings. That said lets get to the problem:
Last mont (october 2015) i bought a new battery from official LG retailer it cost me Bs 12000 (Im from venezuela, crazy high prices for us), i did this because a part of my touch screen is dead and i read in several places that replacing the battery may fix that, well it didnt but at least i have a new battery. Anyway, the thing was super expensive, i also bought a LG "Original" Charger + USB cable at Bs 3000 from at respected seller, the Nexus 4 original oem charger fall from a table and died, it wasnt broke just didnt charge anything at all, thats why i bought a new one. I didnt pay much attention to the charging time until like 2 weeks ago, i was playing in the phone with the charger plugged and the battery was slowly discharging wtf?, since then ive been trying roms and kernel settings because i was to lazy to try another chargers until today. I was thinking about ROM and/or Kernel related problem since I updated to Android M about that time (2 weeks ago). So i didnt have idea if it was rom, kernel, battery or charger what wasnt working properly.
My phone setup:
ROM: Cataclysm Oct 27 2015 + SmartRadio Fix
Kernel: Hellscore b87-M (Hellsactive governor, row scheduler, DT2W and USB Fast Charge both enabled)
Method:
I used 2 USB cables, a generic no branded and a samsung one.
In developer options i enabled Stay Awake option so the screen will never go off while the phone is plugged.
I plugged the first charger with the generic cable and let the phone charging until it showed me the stimated remaining time for full charge, then i plugged the next charger (still with generic cable) and rebooted the phone, after boot i wated until it showed me the remaining time to go with the next charger, once i tested all the chargers i replaced the generic cable for the samsung and repeated the process. So i tested the charger twice, one with each cable, and yes i got the same results every time, so iguess this android feture is actually doing his job and saying the truth.
LG Original Charger - Not really original. Lited Output: 1000mAh
Samsung original charger, i bouth this one like 2 years ago like genuine, but is not. Listed Output: 1000mAh Now blury but i remember it was that amount.
Blu Charger from a Blu Jenny TV phone i have. Made touchscreen go crazy. Listed Output: 500mAh
Orinoquia Charger. Orinoquia is a brand selled by the goverment here in Venezuela. Listed Output: 550mAh
USB Charge. Straight from the back panel of my motherboard (MSI B75MA-E33, Windows 10 Pro x64)
Nokia Original OEM Charger. This is from my mom's Nokia Lumia. Listed Output: 750mAh
The Nokia charger was the only one that was actually delivering the amount of power that it says it should deliver. From now on im gona have a hard time thinking about wich charger im gonna buy. Dont buy cheap chargers guys and only buy them from the company itselft when possible or an authorized reseller. Sorry for my english
I always used a 2A Blackberry Playbook charger for my Nexus 4. Had it for three years and when I handed it to my Dad to use three weeks ago it would still do a day and a half normal usage.
Best charger out there. Still using it with my LG G4. Charges super quick.
Your USB cable can also make a difference.
You mentioned that you played with phone while it was charging...Its possible that you had lose contact at same time and cable was not supplying enough current for battery to charge. Just go to battery stats screen and it will show charging mode. If current being supplied is around 500 mA it will shows USB. This has happened to me on various phones including the n4. I usually just turn off wifi and data connnection and turn screen off while its charging and it really charges faster. ( better option would be to turn off phone). My charger is also broken (fell from wall socket on the floor) and it takes abut 3-4 hours to charge the phone.
I have also used friend's nokia charger and they are quite good. You can continue using it.. better use a 1.5 A or 1 A charger ( stock charger output is 1.2A)
I would also point out the Blackberry charger I use has a captive cable which reduces the connection issues.

Thanks ill try to find a charger with that output that actually delivers it.
My 0,05$:
I tried out a lot of chargers for both my nexus 4 & nexus 9 (tablet) and got by far the best results with Nillkin chargers & usb cables (you can by them cheap from banggood.com). Bought 4 so far (home-office-multiple devices): Very fast charge (much faster than original chargers included with both Nexus 4 & 9), very decent build quality, useful USB cable, charger doesn't make any humming noise, etc. Can strongly recommend.
after i had lost my original n4 charger, i used a motorola charger, which delivered max ~600mA or something. then i bought sony cycle energy wall charger CP-AD2. it is very cheap yet quite powerful. i suggest using currentwidget for checking charging speed. sony charger delivers min 700mA max 816mA (i think its the limit of the n4 since sony charger can deliver up to 2A)

The limit is 1,5 A coz the orginal charger delivers 1,2 and there is always 300-400 mah tolerance

Your USB cable can also make a difference.

I agree.
I'm using a Samsung USB cable with my original LG N4 charger.
It charges twice as fast compared to the original cable that came with the charger.
However, I'm pretty sure it was okay before. Maybe the LG cable is not as durable as the Samsung cable.
Okay!! Yes it is true. I myself now use only the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime's charger. As it charges my Nexus 4 far more faster than the real charger.

Fast QI charger with USB port and no light

I am looking for a fast QI charger for my S7E that does not light up and one or more USB ports on it. I want this because I will place it on my nightstand in my bedroom where I want it dark (hence no lights) and I want to be able to connect a sleep monitor (hence the USB port). Can anyone make recommendations? relevant recommendations will receive heartfelt thanks.
Something like these two together should do the trick. I use this quick charge stand and love it. It does have a small LED on the front but you can just cover it with a small piece of black electrical tape if need be.

I got the Anker Powerport QI 10. It has lights but only when you put the phone on it. It lasts for 5secs and then turns off.
Thanks for the responses guys. Unfortunately, neither is quite what I'm looking for. I'm looking for something like this but with fast QI https://www.amazon.com/Ugreen-Wirel...&qid=1480615095&sr=1-267&keywords=fast+qi+usb

No problem but if you use what I linked, you will get 4 USB ports to plug devices into along with a fast qi charger. It's technically 2 things on the desk but it does exactly what you want.

Unfortunately, its not really want I'm looking for. I I have a small shelf next to my bed that has just enough room for my glasses, phone and sleep monitor. So I really just want one cord running from the wall up to the shelf and then the USB cable for the sleep monitor plugged into the pad.
Try this one. Bought it few days ago and it has been working well for me!
This will solve the problem with a light.
I stumbled over this today and remembered this thread;

Dammit i hate it so much that all those wireless chargers put the BRIGHTEST led indicator they can find right in front of the charger.
Wouldn't it make sense to use a low-powered charger (1A or less) to put on your night stand? In that way you don't overheat your battery - which will make it last longer - and since you probably sleep for more than an hour a day, you don't really have to worry about the duration until it is fully charged, do you?
yup
youre totally right. quick charger in the car is better idea! night stand quick charging to me always seemed kinda dumb. why am i even looking to spend $50 on one. im gonna get the regular paced qi charger.. that way it slowly charges the phone at night and ill pick up the quick charger for the truck

I have a wireless fast charger beside my bed and my phone is never hot in the morning. Also, couldn't you just turn off fast wireless charging anyway if you're worried (unnecessarily IMO) about somehow damaging your phone?

If you use fast charging, the phone is going to be fully charged long before morning, so even if it got hot while charging you wouldn't know by morning. It stops charging once it's full. Bur yes, you can turn off fast charging. But then why pay for a fast charger?
I agree with the other poster. If the point is charging over night, you don't need speed. Fast chargers DO generate more heat in the battery than slow chargers. It's basic physics.
