TiBu Restore Question - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i finally flashed my first custom ROM, yeah!
BUT i pulled a bonehead move and forgot to copy contacts to the sd card I did do a full apps & data backup in TiBu before flashing. Now obviously the new rom has apps already loaded so i can't just drop the backup folder on the sd or it will overwrite the existing one, can i rename the one i backed today and restore from that one? OR can i just restore contacts somehow from the backup?

If you made a nandroid backup, you can restore it and try again.
You have an android phone, are your contacts synced with gmail? If not, you should start saving your contacts to gmail. I never backup contacts, I use gmail and Facebook to store my contacts.
If you didn't make a backup before you flashed your phone, and you didn't sync them with gmail ... how did you transfer them to your captivate originally? Do you still have that data?

If you did the full apps and data backup.. i believe your contacts "should" still be there. Go into tibu and to the backup/restore tab.. scroll down and it will be one of them that is in Green. I think says something along the lines of contacts. If you click that and then hit data only.. It "Should" restore your contacts. After you do that, you need to reboot your phone before you will see the contacts.
Now, however, it also depends on what Rom you put on. I have done this twice. The first time was when i installed Cog 3.04. I found out how to do that and i did it and my contacts went back on to my phone no problem.. Now, i have installed Andromeda 2.0 and when i tried to do that, swype bugs out like crazy . some bug with their new Rom that wont let you do it. I am guessing it has something to do with the app versions or something. Luckily for me, most of my contacts were saved through google.. so i got the most of them back. only missing a few ..
So, give this a try.. and see if that works for you..

Delete contacts

What is the easiest way to delete all my phone contacts? Do I need to do a master reset? I exported my contacts to the SD card and then like a dumb a.........s I clicked on the file on the SD card and now all my contacts are messed up. I have already backed up my contacts using Android Manager. Now I want to restore them but I need to delete them all from the phone first so I don't get all duplicates. My phone is stock and not rooted.

Try this, it should work on non-rooted phone since we won't be installing or backing up or deleting any apps.
Ignore the warning saying busybox not found or anything like that.
1. Open titanium backup
2. Look for "Contacts Storage" and select it
3. Do a "wipe data"
This should clean all ur contacts.
Thanks, but I am not using TiBu. Phone is not rooted. I backed up my contacts with Android Manager.

So u were able to achieve what u wanted?
No. I need to delete all my contact before I do a restore. My contact got all messed up when I hit the exported file on the SD card. Now I have Contact that show a number instead of a name and duplicate linked contacts. This is why I want to delete them all so I can do a restore to get them back the way they should be. No duplicates and no contacts with a number instead of a name.
Thanks

Titanium Backup help

Hi all,
I am currently using Webstar's Ultimate ROM v7.2 but have decided to switch to Darky's latest.
I plan to do a full wipe during the installation.
I have downloaded titanium backup from the Market, and paid for the full version. But I don’t know how to use it!
I’ve just told it to do a batch backup of all user apps and data.
When I install the wipe ROM I will of course be wanting to restore EVERYTHING.
Will titanium be able to do this? Will it restore all my apps/ games/ games scores [angry birds/ grave defence Etc]?
Will it restore all my SMS/ Emails?
Will it restore my desktop wallpaper/ widgets/ launcher pro settings?
Finally when I come to do the restore, do I select the RUN – restore missing apps + all system data?
Thank you all in advance
Matt
Sometimes i have noticed that if you backup system data and restore it on another rom it can cause some issues (FC's Unresponsiveness, Apps not working) so its always best to do a wipe version... you can backup Apps + App data but i never backup system data if im moving ROM. but thats upto you...
and as for your sms/ wallpapers/ homescreen arrangement it will not save them.. but some launchers have the option to backup the homescreen so check that first... anything on your internal sd card. back up to your PC.

I agree with azzledazzle.
Use titanium backup to restore your apps and save data but i would use it for much else than that.
When you wipe your phone it will ask you to input your email account anyway on the first boot up So all your email will be back,
You will lose your sms though...
If you use gmail sync all your contact to your gmail account so they will all be put back on your phone autimatically on the first boot.
Hope that helps a bit.

+1 this is the best method. your emails will stay intact, as for a few sms there not worth keeping (unless they are dirty sms from a dirty woman) lol

[Q] Titanium Backup App Data?

So I updated to a new rom (serendipity 7) and backed up all my apps with Titanium Backup.. I'm curious if the data it backs up is like save data for games and such? Cause when I restored everything I didn't have any of my saves.. Which kinda pisses me off cause I got fairly far in Plants vs Zombies.. =(
Yes tibia will back them up and restore them. At least have for me. Just open tubular and scroll until you see your game/s and click on it. Then pick the backup you want. Now IF you only have one backup then go into preferences and choose Max backups and set it to 2,3, or whatever you want. Then go back and refresh the apps list and hopefully your correct saved data will be there. Now click on the game and when it pops up say restore data or app+data.
I have my Max backup at 4 and has saved me on occasions when an app update doesn't seem to function correctly so I pick an older version of the app. Also make sure you have where it is saved in the same location it was saved previously, in other words if you originally had it saving it to the external SD card then you may have to change it back to save/restore from the external (or vise versa). I mention this because some roms that come with Toby already automatically have it set to save on the sdcard and I didn't have all my apps or data until I resaved the backup to my external SD card. Just throwing things out there for you to try.

Yep that worked, I ran the batch that restored app+data however it didn't restore my data.. Looks like I'll have to go through and restore data.. Thanks
again guys I dont know why TB isn't reading my backups? I have them on my sd card all of them but TB does not give me an option to restore the app data! what's wrong? Help please Thank youuu
You need to describe your problem better.
What ROM you use? What ROM backups are from? Have you set your default backup folder? Do you see your backups? What exactly you can't restore? etc...

Migrate Whatsapp onto my new Android device

I have a Google Nexus One phone that I joyfully used for 1.5yr. I have a Whatsapp that is linked to a phone number that no longer in service, but I still happen to receive messages from that phone number, now and then.
Now I am moving to Galaxy Tab 7.7 (no forum in here yet), but how do I migrate the old Whatsapp no to the new device witout re-activating it? Is there any backup software that can migrate the whatsapp with all the functionalities/message history without reactivating the phonr? Please help, I'm reallt stucked. thanks a lot.
What is the best backup Android apps without rooting the phone?
Sent from my GT-P6800 using XDA App
I am not too sure on the app itself as I don't use it, but using another app to back it up without root, most likely, isn't possible. Android locks each app to itself to limit security risks.
Whatsapp backs up it's messages every night to your sd card (assuming that option is selected in whatsapp settings) as well as on internal memory. If you download whatsapp to another phone, but use the same sd card in that phone, on launch, it'll ask if you want to restore the messages.
If you have root -use titanium backup and restore on the new phone.
Download Titanium Backup
Backup App+Data
Put SD Card in new device
Restore App+Data. Done.
Hit Thanks if this helped.

Titanium Backup requires root access...
do settings>more>chat history backup. Then look for the whatsapp folder on the sd and move that to the new device and that might work maybe. whatsapp might need the original number to also be verified on the new device which might prevent you from using that backup. You really need root to solve a root problem though.
question, if i get a new number in a new country, will i still be able to get my old life long account back?
Backup chats on sd card -> move to new phone -> install whatsapp -> restore from backup. Or use a 3rd party android whatsapp transfer utility to help.

[Q] Nandroid Help

Hi
I messed up my phone today trying to revert back using a nandroid backup i had.
Problem is, when i restored it, my captivate would get to the splash screen and just go on forever. I thought maybe it will take awhile but no, it keeps going and ive left it for so long.
Im running Team ICSSGS along with IcyGlitch B5.
I can get into the OS after i format everything but i wanted to get back into my phone with all my apps still there.
Any help please?
Thanks
Copy Glitch V14 B6 to your SD card, then try a fresh restore, followed by flashing B6 before you reboot.
Say, what is Nandroid
Never did Nandroids. Just backed all my apps, account and Wi-Fi settings by TiBu. Then copied /sdcard/TitaniumBackup into computer.
Does Nandroid knows the filesystem to format etc? And if apps were on SDCard - will it really restore them?
pc103, i tried that several times to no avail.
i finally installed appextractor and used that and did pretty much what i needed. not all my user data is there but thats ok, saves me from having to redownload everything.

Check out the smbk functions in Super Manager. They let you choose between [sys] / [user] apks +/- data when restoring. That and Super Backup makes an easier reload when Nandroid's not an option.

As a longtime TIBU user I have run into trouble. I was using ROMs in the i9000 [Saurom, Continuum, Apex] family but also Native I897 ROMs [ Serenity, SaruromKK4]. Never a complaint due to TIBU. But moving over to CM9 and 4.0.4 IMM30B I have found that a full restore breaks things. Both the media player and messaging stop working [some installs]. I have had to be selective, and ...
Nandroid? pc103 links to info that shows Nandroid will not replace TIBU.. Perhaps TIBU has more control/functionality than my FULL restore approach.
I'm almost positive nandroid does recognize the file system- I think that is the point of nandroid basically, to take a snapshot of your entire phone including file systems and cache- but I ran into issues restoring apps with TiBu after a nandroid backup/restore between two rom versions, and it seemed to be due to a different format of file system. I'm no expert however...
