wahr rom what di you mean?
i use froyo 2.2
kernel version 2.6.32.9
[email protected]
version 19000xxjpp

I think z4 root is not compatible with your rom. You may want to go the Odin route. I used to use z4 to root, but after the 2.2.1 update it wouldn't work anymore.
Odin is fairly easy to use

OCLF for 2.2

Does anyone know if the dev of this app is working on an update to make it compatible with 2.2?
I have found this the easiest way to root and lag fix my phone without going through odin and would prefer to use the app rather than any other method.
it works on 2.2 . install the EXT2 tools first then restart the app and select root 2.2
worked on my SGS using tayatumas 2.2 build ( typo?)

Have you rooted your phone? What version of the 2.2 firmware are you running? OCLF worked for me on ZUJP2 and XXJPM builds of froyo.
Im in the same boat, I can't seem to root ethier, anyone know of an easy root method without using odin?

Oclf can only root 2.2 if the kernel has recovery 2. With you have to use an custom kernel/Rom.

No I'm not rooted yet. I was hoping to use oclf as its easier to unroot if needed. I'm running official jpm 2.2

No its in kernel 2 or dome custom kernel.
You need to flash a kernel with recovery 2 in it.

Do this:

Then this:

Or after rooting, you could also just grab it from the market by searching for "ryanza".
Odin is really easy to use if you just follow the instructions.

Please help a Samsung newby!

I have just aquired an sgs i9000 (£259.95 from uk carephone warehouse) and am finding things a little different after using an htc desire for the last year.
After poking around the forum, i have managed to install I9000XXJVP 2.3.4 gingerbread using odin.
My question is, is it possible for me to now install speedmod-kernel-k15h-t12-300hz using odin to gain root access or have i misread the situation?
Sorry if this sounds a bit noobish but, if the above is correct, will i lose all of my apps and settings if doing so?
Advice would be much appreciated.
If you flash a kernel you won't loose any data.

Thanks for your reply.
So can i simply flash the kernel that i mentioned on my stock 2.3.4 or is there something else to do first and if yes, does this automatically give me root?
Sorry to be a noob, but i am new to these procedures and it all seems too simple to me!
It will give you root, yes.
But I'm not quite sure if this kernel fits for JVP...

speedmod's kernel won't automatically root your phone but you can root it once you've flashed it via the option in recovery mode.
but i agree you should check that it is compatible with JVH; i'm on KC1 so not too sure.
i mean JVP!
There should be a CF-Root version for JVP too, thod kernel is as stock as possible but gives you root.

How to safely root and install custom rom

Hello everyone,
I am new in rooting and installing custom rom in galaxy tab.
Here's my device:
gingerbread 2.3.3 build gingerbread DXJPI
kernel version: 2.6.35.7 [email protected]#2
baseband: P1000DXJPE
I would like to ask how to safely root and install custom rom?
I have this guide which I got from here but Im confused if I can use this to my tab.
http://www.teamovercome.net/p1000/?page_id=17
If that is compatible to my tab, how do I root before installing the rom or the GB-stock-safe_v5.zip and its component should root the device automatically?
thanks.
Yes, it is compatible with ur tab, mine is like yours. Come from dxjpi 2.3.3 too. If u wanna root, just install the overcome kernel with odin. After that, u have rooted ur tab. And u can install other custom rom.

Hi Pati.
Thanks for your advised. Yes I think the reason that we have same build id is that we are in asian and i bought mine in vietnam.
so i should follow the step by step procedures on that link and everything will be alright?
im excited to root and install custom rom on my device.

You can try some kernel which works with froyo rom.. you want an untethered method so it needs to be a flashable zip or you can use kernel flasher app for galaxy s and use .tar kernel file to flash the custom kernel.. this will root your device.

This is a very old method.. What I'll suggest is going to darkyrom.com and get the 10.2 Resurrection Odin version.. Flash that and you'll have a rooted GB ROM.. Then you can flash CM 10.1 from recovery

well then you can try using the z4root method too... I remember when I bought my SGS way back in 2010, I used that method only to root my froyo based SGS..

once rooted you can use rom manager to flash CWM recovery.. it'll download and flash it.. no need to use odin .. and also once you are rooted you can use mobile odin too (though its paid I think.. rom manager free version comes which will do the work).

Mobile Odin pro is for $5. Free version doesn't preserve root.
I will hopefully try your suggestion.
