So I got the psx emulator even though the slide probably isn't the best device to be running the app on. Tried a few of my fave games and the larger roms (like GT2) are slightly laggier then the smaller ones (like Spyro 2). This is probably normal due to size.
I know this is the first release so its not a well pollished app but how much better do you folks think its going to get for us slide users? And is this the same experience the rest of you are having?
Sent from my T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide using XDA App
took the app from 4shared.com amd game won't load. buying it tommorow tho, but it shouldnt run horrid thinking it might run smooth actually, not a fan of how you have to get the roms but hey it ps1 on the go right?
Update: Looks like my Bios was the issue, but works fine now. Games are pretty laggy tried overclocking but not sure it worked out to well, need to try something else. only tried spyro playable but not normal game play like you'd want. Wish we had hummingbird in this! *drools over keyboard* If FF7-9 work good enough for me then. but maybe in the future once its more polished it could become better but playing fighter games or very actiony games maybe not "amazing". Price you must pay for owning a mid-range device.
the games are wayyyy too laggy for slide imho. i just stick with the good ol snes emulator.
I think its the emulator that needs some work because I have heard it runs crappy on the Evo too, but for a work in progress you have to admit that its pretty impressive to be able to load a PSX game onto your phone. I have tried a bunch of different ROMs and so far the only one that is playable is Resident Evil Directors Cut.
I just downloaded this, but I'm enjoying it. It's laggy, but I think the fact that it's even possible is amazing.
I've been watching the psx4droid wiki(can't post a link yet) and another forum. Just checking out to see people's experiences with certain games. I think most of the people that are sharing on the wiki have a bit more mhz than us, but it kind of gives me an idea which games will be ok to run.
I've got FF7 right now and it's definitely laggy, but playable. Sound a bit on the staticy side. Downloading Breath of Fire III, Xenogears and Resident Evil 2.
I'm reading the Resident Evils should be better since a lot of the graphics are pre-rendered and mainly the characters and npcs are 3D.
Running stock, btw. Holding out for 2.2 before determine if I'm going to root.

Unfortunately RE2 runs too slow but RE Directors Cut runs well enough to play and the sound isnt terrible. So far thats the best I can find, well Tetris Plus runs fine but there are better Tetris games you can play in the market.

Ah crud. Well I'll probably be trying more things to see what is great. I wasn't really too excited about RE2 anyways. I never really had a PSX, so I didn't play a lot of these games. Of course I could just do it on the PC now, but... well, I do enjoy the slide.
About halfway through disk one of Final Fantasy 7. The game runs perfect on Fenix 1.8 OCed to 844mhz. Zero lag. The only issue is the sound but I usually play it in public places anyway so it's not a deal breaker for me. Even bust out the WiiRemote for a controller sometimes at home
It is installed on a class 4 sd card. Anyone has similar issue?
Try moving it to your internal memory. If it doesn't help, disable compcache and try again - and after taht if no luck yet, try clearing it's data.
I've not played it in a few weeks since I'm playing with ROMs.. But other people (@CM Forums) have said this helps them a bit.
The game is buggy itself, the phone is not a reason. I have the same Mytouch 3G, tried a lot of tweaks or methods described in different forums, but no effect, so the game is removed until a normal version comes out
There is an optimized version somewhere on the xda forums that gets rid of the ads and makes the game somewhat more playable on mytouch. It's being given out by Impaled.

The version Impaled dished out has ads again. The developer asked that he put them back in and he complied. I have the ad free version (b4 Impaled removed it) and my experience with it is the same: laggy and pretty much unplayable.
I think it has a lot to do with very little ram...
I downloaded the market gersion on my mytouch 1.2 and its laggy but playable.
But then again im using cm6.1, jit, comcache 18% and the vm heap size is 12m
also using ezterrys kernel with a 614 oc

I managed to install the game in the internal memory, but still slow.
i am still on 1.3.5 and with 28 radio it is alot better. get adfree, all my ads are gone.
or better yet like i posted in another thread before. Theres a game called Panda Vs Ninja its literally like Angry birds but runs perfectly smooth! Same gameplay just different characters.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848701
Pandas versus Ninjas plays the same as angry birds on my phone. Playable, but slows down during particle effects and heavy physics processing. I have to close everything and turn my clockrate up for it to play perfect.
it would be funny if someone "skinned" it with angry bird textures/sounds.

hmmm when i play it , it runs smoothly and barely slows down.
and yeah that would be pretty neat for someone to skin it hahaha
I'm very picky when it comes to running games and I will discard a game even if it has slight choppiness. PvN does run better than AB in the like that when it slows down it seems to go into a smooth slo-mo as oppose to AB going into choppy slo-mo, when there is a LOT of physics processing going on.
PvN is great on my MT3G 1.2 (rooted w/ Universal Androot and running CM6.1 RC1) and I actually prefer this over Angry Birds, mainly becuase I like the theme. But I would also download if there were an AB skin.
For me newest version (1.4.2)of Angry Birds laggs to much, version 1.3.5 is still the best one working
I justed install Dungeon Defender and all I can say is WOW!
There is NO OTHER game that shows off the power of this unit..
I am telling you this game kicks ass in graphics, performance and usability (for a tablet).
I highly recommend if you want to have a showcase application that shows off the power of the Tegra 2 PLUS a high resolution screen this is it!
I honestly was shocked how smooth the game looked, how high the textures were...
Anyway... wanted to share my impression for anyone looking for a showcase game or someone who was thinking of purchasing it for their G-Tab.
Yup, I was really impressed with that one. I also thought Dungeon Hunter was also excellent and ran very well on my G Tablet.
Minigore also looks great and runs very well.
I wasnt too impressed with Dungeon Hunter...seemed very dark and low textures were used - plus of course the main menu is all cut off...
I will have to try out Minigore...

Your menu is cut off in Dungeon Hunter? Mine shows up fine. Maybe you got an incorrect version for our tablets.
The textures weren't very good, but I thought the gameplay and overall graphics were otherwise pretty good for a mobile game.
Oops, just read that Mini Gore is from DavinciDevelopers, who stole the game Iron Soldiers. Maybe shouldn't recommend this game after all, especially for $3. My buddy sent me a copy of the APK so I hadn't read the user comments on the market for it.

I bought Dungeon Defenders last night for $2.99. Best lunch money I spent in a long time. Runs full screen no problems on my G-tab VegaNtab 5.1. It is really a fun game well worth the money. You pick a character and defend your crystal by setting up all sorts of barricades & booby traps ( data voice "thats what I said booby trap" ) Overall graphics were top notch you can adjust the graphic quality within the options.
I should also point out I bought "Dungeon Defenders: First Wave" Uses Unreal Engine

Ahh well I've paid 60 bucks for utter piles of poo, so 2.99 is still a darn good deal for a good game.
This game looks pretty cool but it seems to be only multilayer. Is there a game like this that lets you play against AI characters? I like playing games at my own pace since I consider myself a very casual gamer.
I've tried Dungeon Hunter on this tablet but it doesn't paint the levels well and the lighting effects are way off.

Anyone have any idea how to map this to work with our wii bt gamepads? bc i dont particularly get off using the crappy touchscreen "virtual" interface, when ive been playing ps1 games on my tab with a REAL gamepad!

I don't know about using a Wii controler but I have one of these I've used for other games on my gTab and will likely use it on this game.
The only thing about this joystick is that the suction sometimes releases and you'll have to be careful so that the ball on the joystick doesn't smack your screen (I was worried the first time it did this as I thought it may crack the screen).
I've seen some other joysticks like this that is low profile and cheaper AFTER I bought this one.
Anyway, it is a solution.

I'm gonna buy it today so I can play some Conkers Bad Fur Day. I'll let you know!
I got it, will test it during lunch, I tried running it on my Droid 1, choppy but playable. Lets hope it flys on the Gtab when I get home.
Hey thanks six. I've been following it in the market looks like they fixed a few of the sound problems and other things....I might just jump on it too, this weekend. But ill wait for u haha.
Can you please let me know if it supports any other input methods, like wii mote. I would think it would be a ***** to play with the on screen keyboard.
The program is great!!!
The only issue I have is that the framerate is way to fast (didn't expect that), so the game play (at least for mario 64) is like mario on crack. I hope I can figure out a way to slow the framerate.
It does support the wiimote!

Sorry guys! Yes it's awesome!!! Especially on the G-tab, my 2 yr old and I have been playing Mario 64 and Mario Cart 64 like crazy! Well worth the money! Great in combo with "rom gripper ++"! It does run a bit fast on some games, but I am very pleased with this considering I bought all the *oid emulation apps for me and the kids, well mainly me. The on screen controller took a bit getting used to but wasn't so bad after a while. Yep wii remote will work.

I doubt that would work. But the wiimote works. Too bad two player games can't be played on one screen, at least not that I know of.
I can't find it. . . I search n64oid and it doesn't come up. . .
Super Mario 64 ,Mario mart, and pokemon stadium 2 no issues.
Starfox sound goes away during gameplay but the game plays great besides that.
Pokemon stadium intro plays but that's it. Excite bike 64 is a no go. That's all I tested.
Not bad for an early release.
Hell yes! Was actually trolling online recently for an n64. Mine got stollen my Meth heads a few years back and I miss it and my perfect collection of classics. If I can play Tetrisphere and conkers bad fur day with the wii mote I will be in heaven, and be able to keep a little more cash in my pocket. Those systems can be expensive now. Apparently all the stoners up here in the Northwest have a death grip on their n64s and wont give them up for cheap.

I still have my n64 somewhere in a box. I never did get rid of it and I wouldn't either. Maybe those stoners aren't that stoned after all.
I have been using an N64 emu on PC & laptop for quite a few years now and have at least "a few" roms. Result is I have roms that are verified to work.
Seems not many games work well with this emu yet, but some that do:
Super Mario
Bust a Move 99 / 3DX, 2
Diddy Kong Racing
Mario Kart
That is about it so far that I tested. All others tried either play slower, strobe off and on or backgrounds go black. If you like the games above, the app is good right now.
I have tried several dozen roms so far and the ones above are the best.
BTW, The games play half the speed on Incredible, so even slower.
This seems a beta release and $7 is a bit steep.
Update:
Sadly, the dev is following the same trend as with his PSX emu and each update makes the app WORSE.
Some games that worked do not now and games are a lot slower with the update from today. A lot now crash before even playing. BAD update.
I only wish there was a free version so I could test it out.
Anyone knows if it would run well overclocked at 768 MHz?

Yikes. This is exactly why I'm not so sure about paying $7 on something that might not even run on my Ally. And the 15 minute refund window probably isn't enough time to judge, either.
Works pretty good for me so far, tried Mario 64, Zelda Ocarina, and Goldeneye, all worked at normal speed with good sound. Donkey Kong 64 starts but controls won't work, assuming a bad ROM.
As I type, my Son is playing Mario 64 with the latest update. No issues whats so ever. Thanks for the heads up guys!!!!
THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR!!! (well this and full version of firefox) It seems to run great on my gtab, super mario 64 is so fast its funny, on the other hand Golden eye 007 runs at just about the right speed.
Just checked the description. G-sensor as analog. I might try this.

The newest version of the app is slower, compared to the previous version, so not sure what version you folks are using. Same trend as with his PSX efforts.
Trust me, in the previous versions performed much better. it seems he got rid of the auto frame-skip and the current frames skip method does a bad job.
You really notice it on the Snapdragon (Incredible). Slower version.
Update:
I see what he has done now with the newest update. He has adjusted compatibility to be better for some games, but the net impact is slower performance. Hope he finds a balance
First of all, I'm very impressed with the work that's been going on. THIS is what excites me about Android, when a group of people get together and do something fun and helpful. I've been strongly considering buying a Nook Color to make it a cheap tablet but I have some questions:
Is it smooth? I've seen a few videos and it seems that most of the time it runs smoother than I would have expected, but I've seen some others that are choppy.
How's the battery life?
Can it play SNES, NES, GB games?
That's about it! Thanks guys!
One more: if I get, say, an 8GB card, will I be able to use it to store music or video on it, or is it solely reserved for the OS?

Battery life. For me 7 hours. Might be more different if you only use it for music and browsing.
Games. YES. I have all the way from GB, SNES, NES to PS1 and N64 games. All with emulators from the Market.
Smoothness. Have 5 or less apps running at once. use 2.1, 2.2 or Cm7( No video on CM7). Honeycomb is not ready yet. If you want to overclock it. go ahead. I didn't. Its smooth enough for me.
8gb card- Use it for media. and dont run your OS from the SD card. if you want to install another os use the EMMC. Also the NC already has 5gb's onboard
And please install a different launcher. The stock one is just pathetically slow. I suggest ADWLauncher or Launcher Pro
