Hi all,
I recieved my new touch diamond today (really impressive exept for the battery)
Anyway, I wanted to add an album to the existing ones. The thing is that now, I can't brows threw the albums (iphone way). I have to enter in the library and choose an album. If I scroll up and down, it changes the tracks and does not switch between the albums.
Any ideas to get the iphone like browser back?

Mine is the same way. Only i had some songs on the internal storage, then i updated to 1.37. Now it shows those songs in the flip, like ipod, but others i add do not show up. I have to go into library to see them.
I have the same thing. Never figured it out! I think it may only function like that if All Songs are selected and Shuffle is on.
But even that only seems to work occasionally...
I have the same. The touch flow player is just complete disfunctional crap. Dont even bother trying to get it to work because it wont. Your either one of those people which get it working straight away or one that wont ever get it to work. Its useless. Use mediaplayer instead, atleast that works. Its better too as it actually has a volume slider which the touchflow player doesnt which is annoing because that way you have to change your volume all the time and change it back again which I think is way to much trouble.
I agree. I've given up on it and have forked out for Pocket Player 3.
Audiobooster also leaves me with no bass so I can't use that anymore.
It's a real shame HTC have messed thing up so badly as I really liked the old AudioManager player.
Luckily the Diamond battery doesn't last long enough for me to get that pissed off with its functionality!
there's a wide misconception that the phone flicks through like iphone cover flow. it doesn't. what it does is flick through your current album selection or playlist. when we got the phone it looked like cover flow because there were a selection of tracks in one initial list all with different art.

This is not a bug, so why fix it ?
This is just browsing thru your "Playing Now" in stead of browsing thru an album.

what no way i'll stick with this functionality. The thing i that they sold it as an album browser (just read all the pre tests) and it would be easyer if it was in fact an album browser, keeping you from having to entre the library each time.
I have to agree, it was definitely positioned as if it performed like cover flow. In no videos or presentations I've seen does it say "look you can see the cover art" - which is essentially all we're getting unless you play all (and then all your tracks are in alpha order and not album or artist order).
Essentially it works but it was a bit naughty of HTC to position it as something it clearly is not.
I can live with it - a bigger issue for me is that my fave photo album never sticks!
In the user guide P68, they say that you can brows threw albums or songs...
And they would be right, you click library first and.... browse through albums or songs. There is no mechanic in the touch-flow music in order to browse albums by flicking and then it showing you the list of songs for that album. I'm sure it's possible but it hasn't been coded in that way.

glisten is trash, so is mediafly, should i pay for dogcatcher?
any other options? as someone said somewhere "why can't anyone get podcasts right on android?!"
if you find one, let me know. Listen is the best I've found right now but it's still pretty lousy. Mediafly used to be absolutely flawless, but that's been months and now it's just terrible. I've resorted to downloading them in Mediafly and then playing them in in a different program.
I havent found a good one either, the one I listen to you have to login, and it seems none support that.
It depends on what you want and how you want it to work. Some people prefer streaming. Others want it cached for listening later on. Some want to enter their favorite podcasts and be done with it. Others want a good database of podcasts with search facility.
I only listen to podcasts on my 3.5hr commute to work each Sunday afternoon, as I work out of state for most of the week. I listen to the same podcasts every week. For me, "Carcast" is ideal. It doesn't search for podcasts, only downloading what you set it up with. It also allows me to manually download my podcasts every Sunday morning for listening on the road.
I like the search that "listen" uses, but don't care for its integration with google reader. I like my newsfeeds to be separate from podcasts because I treat both differently.
If you just want streaming and a neat interface, try "Stitcher." It doesn't do what I want since it's streaming-only, but it looks good.
So yeah, it depends on how you listen to podcasts. I haven't found a single podcast client that could please everybody yet.

i want it to remember where i stopped last time i listened and be able to control what stays in the list and what doesn't (unlike mediafly)

CarCast sounds like it would work for you, though its interface isn't as great as the others.

The really sad thing about Mediafly is that it USED to be sheer perfection. I could listen to a podcast, either downloaded or streamed, it would pick right back up right where I left off every single time no problem and it would keep my downloaded podcasts as long as I needed them. Then suddenly one day they changed something and it won't remember its spot and it deletes podcasts that I haven't even listened to even though I've told it to keep them all until I manually delete them. I think I'm going to dig around in some of my old APKs and see if I can find one of the first versions of it...
My advice is to just use a desktop podcatcher that will sync. Songbird is a good one, and Double Twist now does it. That way it'll look like a regular music file and you can just use any old music player app on the phone.

Use to go for beyond, was great, paid for, and now ... it sucks. Not capable to synchronize properly with reader anymore.
Just found a new option that look good, work well, is not perfect but free. dPod.

DoggCatcher supports authentication and is generally the best one out there in my opinion. I've used it since pretty much day one and it just keeps getting better and better. The dev is also very responsive and implements everything you ask as long as it's reasonable.
wanted to let you guys know that after last two back-to-back updates mediafly has been working quite good, i.e. it doesnt die when you switch to another app, episodes are pushed almost as soon as they become available and it even sometimes (rarely) remembers where your playback stopped last time, oh and i kinda dig their logo ...
Mediafly was updated today...looks like they might have fixed the resume problems...fingers crossed.

I apologize for digging up this old(ish) thread, but I recently spent several days trying out as many different podcast apps as I could and wanted to share my findings. As background, probably 95% of my audio listening is to podcasts in my car, and maybe an occasional CD or Pandora stream. I have around a dozen that I listen to every week and a couple of these are daily shows. I have tried to use Mediafly in the past, since I paid for it, but found it increasingly more aggravating, even after the most recent update.
So here's my findings:
Useless: MyPod, Mediafly, Listen and Carcast
Potential: PodKast, BeyondPod and ACast
and the winner by a huge margin: DoggCatcher
It pretty much does everything I need. I knew after just using it for a day that I was not going to get a refund for it, even though it's most expensive app I've bought to date. The interface is a bit "busy" but once you get the hang of it, it really does make listening to multiple feeds very simple and worry-free. The only real downsides that I've found are that I don't think it streams over 3G (although it will over wifi), but that's not a huge deal, since it autosyncs without any kind of interaction on my part just fine and it's not cheap, but the dev seems to keep of top of things.
Ive tried just about all of the apps and I prefer beyondpod.

guys, i'm back to glisten. it works almost flawlesly. couple hickups with app shutting down on loss of network but besides that all is good. and it's google, you know you can't say no.
I have DoggCatcher and I love it. It works better than anything I've tried and I never had any problems with any of my feeds not downloading. 5 Stars.
Is there any way that at least music, Like Slacker or Music Player, can work in the background? I know that's what "not able to multitask" is, but this is a BIG downer for me. I like having Slacker or Pandora (HD2) running all day with my headphones in, but still be able to perform basic functions on the phone,
No unfortunately not at the moment. It will play with the phone background off but that is it. If you have to go to another program and then hit back it will resume/stream again.
Zune obviously plays in the background but so far not another player. I wonder when pandora will finally release the WP7.

I loved Pandora. But I would take any music program that would play in the background while still being able to text/surf the web like I used to on the HD2.
Small drawbacks to getting a brand spankin' new software. Gotta wait for these small things to hopefully change.
zune natively.does.that right now. I love zune and how on this phone its awesome. Signed up for a year pass. Can't beat it. Unlimited streaming of any song they have and 10 songs to keep forever is great.
Try zune if you are looking for a music player that will play while surfing, emailing etc.

Thanks for the advice. I was looking more into a free way of doing it like Pandora or Slacker, FM Radio ect (well as far as not pay for a membership to like Zune ect) I'd pay for an app.
Guess time will tell on what there chef's can do for the new windows...
I use Zune without a pass and I have transferred all my music and download all my podcasts and everything works a teat

Yea, it's good for once you get your music on it, but I don't have a computer that I can use Zune. All my music is at work and i opnly have iTiunes, on a MAC, and can not download any programs.

I'm sure I read MS have loosened the controls on running apps in the background as long as it meets certain targets on battery usage, so it really depends if winmo gets enough mindshare for pandora etc to make an app for it

That would be reat. Sounds like they didn't allow it due to they didn't want the phone to run slow, and the performance going back to them? I'd rather my phone run a little slow to be able to at least multitask so music frm a free program such (slaker, pandora ect) can run in the background than hnave a super fast phone that i can only use one program at a time. For now, I'd be happy with just music running in the background. But I'm sure some apps could make use of this as well.
Wasn't this an iPhone problem at first (or current) too? Not the music, but multitasking in general?
I understand and appreciate the rationale behind the lack of multitask support for third-party apps in WP7, but I have already encountered two major inconvenient situations caused by it.
1. I can't run Messenger (which sucks for now) and browse the web or play games at the same time.
2. I'm playing a game half way, and I receive a text message. If I want to read and reply to the message, I'll have to reload the game all over again.
I do not know when or if Microsoft would support multitasking in an update, but I sure hope it will be soon. WP7 is such a sweet platform as far as development is concerned, yet the lack of third-party multitask support could be a dealbreaker for me.
OK so Google Music Beta is out and a lot of people are getting burned by fake invite offers.
1. Go to music.google.com and login using your Google account and ask for an invite.
2. Wait..... took me about 5-6 hours to recieve an invite from Google.
3. Be sure to pick some genres you like and select "add free music" Google actually gives you some very decent music to listen to for free.
4. Download the music manager to your laptop or desktop and install.
5. Choose which folder you want Google Music to sync with. This was My Music on my laptop may be different for you. Also I set it up to automatically sync anytime I add new music to the folder.
6. Be patient as your music is synced with your Google Music account. This can take a long time depending on amount of music and upload speeds.
7 If you have a large collection you may want to copy a portion of your music to another folder so it doesnt take hours to sync and slowly move your whole collection in chuncks rather than one huge sync.
8. Go to market and download Music by Google. Music should automaticlly log in on your phone and you will see your music collection ready listen.
If you are still syncing then certain music wont be there but, if you selected the free music, check out some bands you havent heard before.
Google Music is a great way to have a huge collection of music with you wherever you go without taking up space on your phone or lugging usb drives, ipods or whatever around. Your music can be accessed from any android device or desktop/laptop that has internet service. Not only that you can make tracks available offline! If you know you are going somewhere with no data.... make some songs offline. They will be able to be played whether you have a connection or not. How cool is that?
So far the only problem I have found is when on shuffle some songs dont skip to next track which isnt a big deal for me and im sure will be fixed in an update.
I recommend everyone go ask Google for an invite soon before they stop handing them out and before the service goes paid. You never know, they might just let us beta testers use it for free indefinitely.
DO NOT ASK ANYONE BUT GOOGLE FOR AN INVITE ANYONE SAYING THEY HAVE INVITES TO HAND OUT IS PHISHING FOR EMAILS TO SPAM.

Also just an FYI for when you Put the client on your PC or Laptop. If you let it stay running 24/7 when it goes to sync it will Slow your internet down like you are Downloading a Torrent. Which for me is unacceptable considering I have Cable Internet and no way should that slow me down that bad but either way just thought I would let yall know that in advance.

Anyone having issues with this running on the Thrill?? It never works. Everything works up to the streamimg part then it just continues to swirl forevr then it says it failed. Any ideas??
I already tried deleting the devices from the website. Didnt work. Works just fine on my Atrix though.
It works great on my Thrill. It worked great on the Thrill I had before this one. ON the last Thrill, I had to occassionally make sure sync was on but no problems other than that and that was only twice when I had to reclick the sync button.
I'm really enjoying google music as it's cleared a ton of space and I don't have to worry about my sd card being corrupted and losing music.
For me it's always worked quickly and with very few hesitations.
Just got my invite... took three days... lol gonna try it now...

Right and its nice to not have to rely or use your own data connection at home to stream the music like orb or vlc.
I was fortunate to get my hands on a Chromecast at my local BestBuy the other day, and after a full day of use it is one of the best $25 (had a $10 reward cert) I have spent since my last trip to Outback Steakhouse .
Getting the dongle up and running in my entertainment center was a bit awkward with the mini USB required for powering the device, but all went smoothly. First time set up was simple, requiring installation of the Chromecast app on my HTC One which was able to pair with the dongle and hook it up to my home WiFi network. Once connected to WiFi, it's ready to use, displaying the "Ready to Cast" home screen.
Google Play Music was the first app I tried out, and I was immediately disappointed to get the error message "Unable to Cast sideloaded content". Hopefully an update for local content will be added to phones and tablets in the near future, since it is only possible within the Chrome browser on your Mac/PC. Music playback through their Unlimited music service worked as advertise though, however the Now Playing interface displayed on the TV could use a bit more polish. It doesn't look awful, but it doesn't look very good either. Every now and then I would get an error when selecting songs saying "Could not stream your selection at this time," where I would have to kill the app from the multitask screen and restart.
Where this device thrives is video playback. Netflix, Youtube, and Google Play Videos are the only content supported so far but they deliver. Watching AMC's The Killing and The Avengers in 1080p by simply "casting" to my TV with my new Nexus 7 is a real treat. And the best part is I can use my tablet while watching for anything I want. Be it games, web browsing, reading, or music; it doesn't effect playback at all since it is being streamed by the dongle, not your phone/tablet/computer. Even better, ChromeCast has minimal effect on battery life of your device. I started an episode of The Killing with 55% battery, after the episode was over about an hour later my battery held at 54%.
I have not been able to try out screen mirroring yet, but will update once I play around with it. Overall I am satisfied with my purchase. The lack of local media support on phones/tablets are preventing it from being a serious threat to AirPlay and the Apple TV, but at the same time being 65% cheaper make it a more than reasonable trade off. The way I see this device: it makes watching Netflix on my TV simpler. Before it was turning on my PS3, navigating to the Netflix app, waiting for it to load, choosing between regular content or kids, and then finally getting to pick what I would like to watch. Now I just switch to the input my Chromecast is hooked up to, fire up the Netflix app on my phone/tablet (whichever is closer), make my selection, and then "cast" to my TV.
If you are looking for a fast simple way to watch Netflix, YouTube, and movie rentals through Google Play this device is for you. If you are expecting an Airplay/Apple TV killer, well this device isn't for you...yet. With its open API for future dev support, it is just a matter of time for local files and more streaming sites such as HBO GO and Hulu to be supported.
The oneinfour score: 7.5/10 - lack of local content playback and wacky music playback issues hold back an otherwise solid streamer.

I think we may be waiting a bit for Hulu to get on board. They're a bit quirky regarding the various contract and licensing agreements. To me, they should just view this as HDMI out on the Hulu app, but who knows. Sometimes they're just obtuse because one can just hook up a PC to the TV and have all content available.
It's early, so to some degree, we're going to see a lot of growing pains as the product matures. I look forward to trying it out myself when I eventually get one.
Chromecasting a chrome tab on your desktop allows HBO go (and others I presume) to work with your chromecast. I was even able to drag and drop a local mkv file into the active chrome tab and it played on my TV just fine. Some pixelation and artifacting, but mostly negligible. Audio synced up fine too. Chromecast messes with AdBlocker
You can't expect it to be compatible with every third party app. Adblocker needs to fix on their end.
As far as Chromecast.. I went to buy one and it is sold out every where.
What would be amazing would be a device that would allow us to send screen to TV for gaming, etc.. With the higher res this would be awesome on my 1080 Bravia!

This is what makes it a potentially killer app. I own a roku, a wdtv, an htpc (out of commission because of fan noise), and I have had multiple cable boxes. In terms of interfaces, nothing has gotten it right. Interfaces are either time consuming to get working, slow, unpolished, or difficult to navigate. Worse, sometimes they rely on unstable hacks that are destroyed by API changes. The difference with chromecast is that most of the apps on your tablet and phone are fairly polished, speedy, and easy to navigate. Most importantly, the video is separated from the UI, meaning you don't stop what you're doing to look at something else. There are a lot of great ways that this can be used: Playing a movie automatically brings up more information about that movie on the tablet; it could tell you the names of the actors on the screen (I think amazon has something like this). Song lyrics could be displayed on the tablet. Sky is the limit in that respect.
Yes, screen mirroring would be nice, but I doubt it will ever work as well as we want it to on this device. Google has not released an API for windows or mac os so speed may never be something we see on the desktop. We will see though.
It would depend on the screen it was being mirrored too and would not be perfect but it would be awesome.
Ideally instead of having to stay media info chrome I would just like to my screen on the TV. That would be a huge selling point for Google.

Why do you think direct local streaming was not included? Just seems like no brainer to me... Anyway I think ill probably go pick one up once Skype gets on board with suppprt.
Great review, I agree with everything you wrote. I am loving mine so far too. If Amazon wakes up and adds support, this will be a killer little dongle. Though, if they don't, then I will just starting buying my TV shows and Movies from Google's store instead =)
I too would like to see the ability to stream local content soon, and also from the cloud services like Dropbox/Box/Drive/etc. The developers have already proven it to be possible, with great results ... it is really up to Google now to allow it to happen. The fact that they released the Chromecast without local file support has me a little worried. But I am hoping this was more a scheduling decision to get it out the door to beat the competition to the punch and get people talking.
This cheap little gadget has the potential to shake up the media industry in a big way.
