background: i have an international i9000 galaxy s.
and my problems are:
im on my way to upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2 using odin.
downloaded all the needed .tar and all that.
but after installation finished, my phone wont start up and only stuck on the first screen, showing galaxy s gt-i9000
only then i realized that i did not uninstall lag fix from my previous installation.
so i gonna need a big advise from the pro's to help me.
i was really tired on searching the solutions for my phone (the whole day today)
please, help.
http://www.multiupload.com/PUSOOBQ8K5 this is froyo 2.2.1 flash it thru odin with all 3 files and 512 pit (included) and check the repartition box on odin. when thats done give the phone plenty of time to boot (10mins should suffice) then when thats done upgrade to a newer version (the one in the link is JPU)
i will give it a try (downloading it)..
I had tried to reflash it using odin to jm8, it will say on the android recovery
E:can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(invalid argument)
am i in a bigger problem?
i dont think so no... just flash the above firmware make sure you use PIT and RE-PARTITION they are essential.. then report back as to whats happened
okey.. still downloading it..
its kinda slow because i dont have megaupload or any downloading accounts.. hope u can wait coz i will surely report back.
additional info:
my phone does not have 3 button combo for recovery and download mode..
so i just made myself a home-made jig to make my phone run on download mode
does the jig work ?? have you never had the 3 button combo
the jig: perfect! =) it worked just like it should if u seen it on the net or youtube
the 3 button combo : need to root first, then use the 3 button combo fix.. then i will have the 3 button combo.. but if had to be rooted 1st, so how can i root if i cannot pass the boot menu?? hehe.. so jig is the answer..
mate, i just finished downloading the file u recommended, but it ask for password.. do u have the password?
samfirmware.com i think
on to it!!
installed JPU using odin and right now its rebooting..
do u mean that 10 minutes to boot (while it stuck on the s boot screen)?
so now i just have to leave it? then i will report back in 15 minutes.
hope this work..
the screen turn black after a while showing the s boot logo..
the sometimes its vibrating.. is that normal?
its not normal but there is life in your phone so all is not over yet...
did you use pit and re-partition ?? also Kies wasnt running on your pc was it ?? even in the icon tray ??
another thing.. you did try JM8 right ?? did you use pit and re-partition with that firmware aswel ?
i used pit 512 and tick re-partition on both JM8 and JPU..
i dont install kies but i have the driver for the galaxy s and working fine on 2.1.
i hope there is still life on my phone.. please help me make it awake.. really counting on you and any1 who can help..
most of all, thanks because still spending ur time on noobs like me =)
i will be here all night if i have to... your phone is gunna live im gunna make sure of it lol. im just having a toot thru the threads to find some alternative methods.
In the meantime have a look thru this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
Also when you did the JPU method is this how you did it ??? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10449932&postcount=7
guest what, my phone now have 3 buttons combo!!
in recovery mode, i wipe data/factory reset
then wipe cache partition
then format internal sd-card..
do i have to apply sdcard:update.zip??
while the screen is black after stuck in s boot screen, the two buttons that is menu and back buttons turn on its light..
any ideas?
no apply update:zip is just to install signed zips like CWM. did you do full reset in recovery ?? is it still not booting ??? and is it still vibrating
how are you getting on ?? im on the edge of my seat here
i did the full reset in recovery..
it still not booting and still vibrating.. hurm.. can you teach me how
- to speedmod kernel using odin with suitable file to be downloaded?
while im downloading the how to describe whole procedures to install android 2.2.1 to samsung galaxy s..
i dont know how flashing a kernel will help but anyway. all you do is put it in odin in pda. NO REPARTITION AND NO PIT. then flash as normal in download mode.
also download stock JPY 2.2.1 what i use all the time if i have trouble. do the same in odin in pda NO REPARTITION AND NO PIT just pda. then tell me how you get on
have you read thru these ?? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=926399
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818556
i fell asleep infront of my pc while downloading flip 360 clean JM9!!
sorry about that
now.. after the fresh install, it will boot into recovery and this message is shown:
E:can't mount /dev/block/stl11
(invalid argument)
i think its the internal memory, do u agree?

yes i am able to get into download mode .i have tried reflashing but still of no use.
earlier i had clockwork mod recovery installed and now when is press vol up+home+power android system recovery <2e> appears.
and also in recovery i am getting this:
upadate media. please wait ...
E: Can't mount / dev/block/stl10
(Invalid Argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
copy default media content failed.
i guess earlier i was using One Click Lag Fix - 2.0 but i uninstalled it and i probably the file system didn't fully got converted back to RFS..
..am i right???
Have had this problem myself, did you repartition in odin? Not entirely sure how I solved it, but I flashed JP7 from odin (pda, csc and modem) with repartition selected (pit 512) then reflashed it without repartition and it worked
flash back to the rom you came from? when you say 'uninstall' the lag fix, you mean you uninstalled the apk and didn't undo the lag fix? I had something like that before, when i flashed back to the rom that i had lagfixed it on, it worked again.
I have had the exact same error..I was on Darkky 4.1 and wanted to flash the latest speedmod, so I removed lag fix and flashed the speedmod.
Then rebooted the phone and was stuck with the exact same error.
I googled a little and found a galaxy forum.
There a guy gave the solution... I shall now share...
First flash this zimage:
http://www.4shared.com/file/jHJyZZ32/SO_zImage_opt_ext_root_JPM-JP6.html
Using odin (no repartition and no pit file)
If all is well you can get into recovery mode, clear all cache you can find, and format all there is to format (i got on error on one format can't remember which one..) Then when you are done go back into download mode and connect to odin
Then flash JPM from samfirmware (no repartition) and you are back in business (atleast I was)
The I re did the clockwork recovery and flashed darkky 4.1 speedmod again..

You're welcome mate, I posted my prob in another forum and everyone told me my internal sd card was fk'd! So I know how you feel when your phone don't boot and you see all that crap on your screen, scary stuff, especially the thought of having to send the phone back to Samsung...
Hello,
I have read many threads and have tried many solutions with no avail. I am giving out $20 (may not be much but still an insentive) to whomever that will help me solve this.
I have 2 vibrants that keep booting to the Galaxy S i9000 intro and keeps rebooting there. I can't get into the recovery mode, but I can get into download mode and ODIN works just fine.
Please someone help

Just flash another firmware with Odin.Download a stock firmware, click re partition in odin, load all 3 files and pit and flash it.
You see sometimes after flashing with odin in some cases you might have to do a factory reset to boot the phone, since you cant go in recovery you will need to flash a complete stock firmware. This will probably work.

Follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853950
and flash this firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883568
The people above me pretty much said it.
Go into download mode, connect to odin, download a firmware that will work with your phone, flash your phone. That should fix it.
Best of luck! Tell me how it goes
K. Just came back from bell corporate store. Said I can't do anything without a receipt so until I get a hold of my friend that I bought this off of, I will try what you guys have suggested.
By the way, the gentleman (who seemed very knowledgable) tried flashing my phone on the spot behind the counter and now the phone boots with a black screen and the bottom keys glow when pressed.
When entering recovery mode <3e> and try to format internal sd-card, i get the following:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
I will now try what you guys have suggested and keep you updated.
tried kewjoe's suggestion but no luck. Any other suggestions?
Time for a replacement - looks like you've got the ever-so-popular internal SD card death.
If you take it into a Bell store they'll send it out and you should get a new one sent back to you in the mail. Bonus if you have any scratches on the phone or anything.

Read some of the bell threads that deal with this sdcard issue. Some people went through samsung directly and didn't need a receipt.
Sent from my GT-I9000

I've had that problem, shouldn't be too hard to fix.
Flash the Rom JPC with a 512 pit, make sure re-partition is ticked.
Then you can go back the original rom you was on without a pit and without re-partition ticked.
Make sure you do all them steps
Hope this has helped!

I had this issue when flashing from JL2 to another
- some of your partitions got messed, first boot odin, put your phone into download mode and make sure odin see's it. Select JL2 in the PDA secion and click the phone boot loader update
- after it's flashed, find the speedmod from hardcore on xda and flash that, also in the pda part, make sure everything else is default so it's best to close odin and reopen it
- after you have the speed mod on you should be able to get back into recovery.
- almost there, flash the stock 2.1 on your phone this has some data that no other rom has, once you flash that you can flash JL2 over top once again and you should be good to go
- msg me if you have issues
is this issue still on ongoing?
try this (if you haven't tried it before):
1. Launch Odin
2. Put the necessary stock firmware + PIT file that goes with it
3. tick re-partition (not sure what partition you are currently in so that's why I'm suggesting repartition)
4. Go into DL mode and plug the phone in via USB
5. Flash it
6. Once done, go flash hardcore's latest speedmod kernel via Odin again
7. Go to cwm recovery (hardcore's speedmod will give you this)
8. wipe partition cache+factory reset + clear dalvik cache
9. reboot system (will take a several minutes to boot out of the Galaxy S screen)
10. Hopefully your problem is solved.
11. If my method worked for you, PM me. I'll ask you to give that $20 to a local charity of my choice. Street kids needs some love too in the new year
Had this problem yesterday. I wrote in this post how to fix it. Looks like similar advice to what others are telling you.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892534
this will work for sure..
download jpu from here http://hotfile.com/dl/88094739/f5545cc/I9000XXJPU.exe.html
after self extract
put the phone on download mode
open odin
select the files (pda, csc, pit )
check repartation , reboot , reset time
Hi all I own an international i9000 (Hong Kong version),
My little woe started like this, I was uninstalling RyanZA's OCLF, when I encountered an error where I couldnt uninstall the ext2 tools. I read somewhere on a fix for it, where I downloaded a app called Mount /system (rw / ro) in which i set the system to RW, and then I was able to uninstall ext2 tools.
Afterwards I tried to install the Voodoo lagfix via odin.
After that, it refused to boot to the load screen (Galaxy S logo) and stayed in the i9000 screen saying restore operation then the device reboots itself.
Out of desperation I reflash my phone with my phone's 2.2 firmware "I9000ZSJPE" but that didn't work either, the first time it boots when I flash the firmware, I get taken to recovery mode, and I get this message:
update media please wait
E:Can’t mount /dev/block/stl10
(invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:can’t mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy default media content failed
No matter how many times I flash the firmware, I keep getting this message...
Is there any way to get my phone up and running again?
Thanks!
Hey, dont panic, its no biggie... this happened to me last week, you need to find a firmware that contains 'dbdata' im unsure which ones do contain it... i know darkys 9.2 Odin version definately has it... thats the rom i used to fix my phone last week.
EDIT: found this.... this should work :
This one is easy to fix so don't panic.
Download this ROM and extract (Odin 1.7 and 512.pit are included), then do as follows:
-Start Odin and load 512.pit, don't connect the phone yet.
-Make sure "Re-Partition" is checked, don't change anything else.
-Load PDA.tar.md5 as PDA, MODEM.tar.md5 as PHONE and CSC.tar.md5 as CSC.
-Put your Phone on download mode and connect it, start flashing.
When flashing is done, the phone will enter recovery mode, if it get stuck at the same error, simply do a wipe/factory reset and reboot the phone, the phone shall boot normally then.

i have got a pit file and a tar file but only goes into pit and pda section..
where can i download those 3 files?
ive tried flashing the phone a few times. it says passed and completed but it turns on it just stays on the galaxy s screen. wont go into recovery mode but i can get into download mode.. :S

I have a similar problem...
The phone was 2.1 stock, then i rooted, made a backup in clockworck recovery, and flashed one of darky's custom roms and it was fine until i wanted to restore from that backup I made... if I remember corectly it did the restore part and couldn't boot after that... anyway i got into download mode (3 buttons method works) and tried to flash a stock firmware with odin. after that it couldn't boot. I tried it again, and still nothing, it just vibrates in a very scary way. Like it's trying to tell me something but can't because I killed it!
Please help! I would hate to tell my dad I bricked his phone...
There is a new XWJS5 (jan 2011) firmware on samfirmware.com that comes in 3 files
If that doesnt work or it leaves you with some sort of error 'Cant Mount dbdata' Flash an old firmware like JM8 with 512 pit.
Yeah, after Odin finishes and the phone tries to reboot, it ends up in the recovery (3e) and I see this:
update media, please wait
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet, please use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy deafult media content failed.
I am downloading JM8 firmware now so we'll see how that goes... If anyone else has any ideas, they're most welcome to share
As I was looking at the recovery screen, I gave the "wipe data/factory reset" option a try... and it worked. I don't know how or why but now the phone works and has a XPY firmware... now I need to root it again and get to that damned backup...

I recomend you to think about to buy a USB jig
You can find it on this page --> http://www.mobiletechvideos.com/blog/?page_id=100
I don't say that it will work but it should.
U can read this post to --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889128&highlight=usb+jig if you think you can make one you self.
I have the same problem and I'm w8ing for the USB jig to be delivered.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992803
/Sandra!
You don't need the jig if you can get into download mode with the 3button method. What you need to do is get into download mode and reflash with a full firmware that contains 3 file with repartition checked and a 512.pit. Any updates after this just use firmware with one file and no repartition.

If you read the last link you will c why I gave him the USB jig fix links... That is if he can't get in to download mode.
And it sounds like the same problem like I have so I asumd that he have the same problem like me.
Just a heads up, the i9000b can have issues with certain firmware. If you know what original firmware was on there restore to that, it needs to have a pda, modem and csc file to fix your error though.
There are some firmwares here that might help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782686&page=12
