market issue fixed (possibly) :) - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey guys i know many of you like me had issues with market downlaod not working or not installing etc, please try this out as its worked for me and ive even managed to instal all apps i had through titanium back up which also wasnt working for me
Please do the following steps in the way i did:
1. turn off the phone so its completely shut down (ie NOT in recovery or download mode). Once you are powered down remove your sd card, please DO NOT replace the sd card until i say
2. reboot to recovery and make backups of anything you dont want to lose through usb mount and copy items to pc, once this is done, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, wide data factory reset in that order
3. Complete the Factory reset and reboot
4. As soon as the device is restarted the first thing to do is login to Google Talk
5. After Google Talk has booted and is complete. Go back to home screen and start Market. Start off with downloading google maps
6. Press the Download and wait for instal to complete
7. now this is done you should be able to go ahead and start downloading other apps, i recomend trying a few you have had trouble installing then go for installing all from a back up if they instal ok
8. Now what we need to do is turn the phone off again so its completely shut down and then replace the sd card, replace the back cover of your phone, turn on the phone and wait for everything to start up as you would with your pc (while this is taking its time starting up go and get yourself a cold beer from the fridge and congratulate yourself on fixing your app market)
9. now try downloading apps from market again
10. have fun
goodnight and god bless

Hi Steve hopefully gonna try this tonight but Im trying to remember if you were on Darky's v9.2 Rom or not? If so after the factory reset did you install a stock (eg: XXJPY) first and then Darky's Rom or installed Darky's Rom straight away with CF-Root Kernal?
Thanks

I switch back and forth between miui and CM7 on my nexus and had that happen once. Here is what I did......
First I redownloaded the rom on my computer. I wanted a clean download to make sure that it wasn't a bad download that was causing the problem.
Next, I booted into recovery, selected mounts and storage, connected the phone to the puter via usb and selected usb mount and copied the new download over. When done unmount the phone, disconnect the cable, and back out of that menu in recovery.
Now I wiped everything. Then went into "advanced" in recovery and wiped the dalvik. Then backed out of that and went into "mounts and storage" and formatted /boot and /system to make sure there was nothing left from any previous roms.
Then I backed out of that and "install zip from sd card", selected the new download of the rom and reflashed it. Flashed gapps afterward and rebooted from the menu.
It worked and that took care of it. I am not sure if it was a bad download, that there was bits of a previous rom floating around in /system or something else I didn't even know, but it worked and I do this now whenever I am switching from one rom to another.
Hope that helps.

LG screen shows up then black screen with blinking buttons

Hello guys!
I'm having some problem with my OB. This happened after one reboot while using TeslaLED's torch. My phone rebooted then the LG logo showed up. Then to my surprise, the nova8's boot animation didn't showed up. At first I thought it got bricked, but I waited for it to finish boot up. Then when I touched the screen, I felt a haptic feedback, meaning the phone ain't bricked.
Then I tried pulling battery and rebooting again. Same black screen with flashing buttons. Then after 5 tries of pulling battery and rebooting, it continued to boot to bootanimation and screen didn't turn black. But everything was wiped out. So, downloaded all my apps again.
And everytime I reboot my phone I get this black screen.
After a month of pulling and rebooting, I decided to go back to stock, to see if it was a problem with Nova8 ROM. And I hoped the issue will be gone after flashing back to stock.
But now, I'm on stock ROM. LG logo shows up, then black screen, then I waited and heard LG's stock bootanimation. Meaning it ain't bricked.
Can you help me? Is there a way for me to fix this? Any form of help will be much appreciated. Could it be hardware problem?
hi, I have the same problem that you've tried everything and I can not make my optimus black out the screen of lg. I've watched several people with the same problem.
Well, I can't say that it's good that you have the same problem. But now I'm sure that it has to be some problem with Nova8. And that it did something terrible with our phones.
I've tried flashing Cm7 rom and this problem doesn't occur. It could be a problem with Froyo Roms?

factory reset !
how to factory reset the phone's screen is just lg?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275315
If you havent tried this yet, try this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396091
should always work. If not, either your phone is bricked and needs to be returned, or your PC doesnt work properly, or you missed anything in the thread, so follow it CAREFULLY, or you simply need more knowledge about your phone... so keep on reading
OR try this one, since it really is a step by step guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396091 I do not understand, I'm Brazilian.
it is not bricked. I'm using my phone as I speak. It's just that its very hard to boot normally if I reboot. Because There's an 90% chance of getting into black screen than to continue boot up to bootanimation
yes my Ob also did not able to restart it if it was on the screen of LG, but now he does not care anymore.
Did you have CWM installed before? If yes get SuperoneClick and a custom .zip rom (e.g. redy's). And put .zip Rom to ur sd card.
1. Extract Superoneclick to C:
2. rename the folder to SO
3. then open Command Prompt by typing cmd into search/run or push windows + r and type it there
4. when command prompt is open type "cd so" without " "
5. type "cd adb"
6. type "adb reboot recovery"
7. wipe data, cache, in advanced wipe dalvic
8. go back
9. choose install zip from sd card and install the zip you just downloaded and everything should be fine, but ALL your data will be lost!
should I do the command prompt while the phone is connected?
Yes, otherwise, how should the phone get what the PC wants it to do? and also enable debugging mode if possible.
Solved it!
It seems that my phone has issues with Froyo based firmwares. When I flashed Zeus1 and CM7 my phone didn't showed the same problems I had.
What I did:
1.Used KDZ updater to flash V10A.(I came from Nova8)
2.When it's finally up and running, install Gingerbreak to attain root.
3.Download CWM recovery from ROM Manager.
4.Download any Gingerbread based ROM.(CM7,Redy's repackaged, Zeus1)
5.Put it in SD card.
6.Reboot to recovery
7.Wipe data/Factory Reset
8.Wipe cache partition
9.In Advance, wipe Dalvik Cache
10. Go back, Install zip from SD card.(Look for your ROM)
11.Wait for it to finish
12.Reboot.
13.Enjoy!!!
Why V10a? Because root can be attained using Gingerbreak. I tried Superoneclick , but got no luck.

[Q] Custom rom went wrong (LG optimus 2x)

so i finally decided to root my lg optimus 2x, after a few tries, i finnaly did it. so after that i went to the google play store to download the app Rom Manager, after it finished installing, i went deeper into the app (Rom Manager), and found out that i could just download and install a custom rom directly from my phone, without any pc connectivity. so i choose one that was written stable on, after the custom rom was downloaded, i clicked on the icon in the notification tap to install. there were some preferences i could choose, so i decided not to backup the files from my build-in rom. after that, the phone rebooted and my phone was showing alot of text informations, and in the background of that the Rom Manager icon was showing. after the installation was done my phone got turned off. after that i decided to turn it on (obviously), and it just got stuck at the LG logo in the beginning.
so the question is, what do, i do now? i have tried everything.

you should look into more what you need to know, need to do before flashing a custom rom
well, you either try flashing a Stock rom via Smartflash and if that doesn't work, you'll have to use Nvflash, but don't worry, your phone is fine, there's nothing to be afraid about.
Next time you try a rom, you migh want to root the device, install cwm, then make a backup with the app Titanium Backup, after that, you go into the cwm, wipe as needend and install the rom. Do read the guides there are about flashing, because things like this could happen if you don't know what your doing.
If you have done a Backup of your Rom you just simply click restore in cwm and everything would get back to normal, but since you didn't, you have to use Smartflash.
But anyways, if I were you, instead of using Smartflash as my first choice, this is what i would do:
1.- Download a CM7 rom (or any other rom i like) for the O2X in its page with the gapps (google apps), if you like Stable versions, then go for it.
2.- I'd put that rom in a microsd card directly from my pc and then put that microSD card on the device.
3.- I'd go into cwm by doing this: While the phone is off, you click: Volume down + Power button at the same time and wait until the secong LG logo appears before releasing them.
4.- I'd do the firsts 2 wipes it shows there: Data wipe/factory reset (as I already have a Titanium backup) and Cache partition wipe
5.- Go into "Advanced" and wipe: Dalvik cache and Battery stats.
6.- Go back and choose: "Install zip from SD card" then "Choose zip from sd card"
7.- Locate the file and apply it
After that you'll see that "lots of text information" you saw the first time, that's fine, just wait a little, after it's done simply click "Reboot system now" and wait a little bit for the Rom to charge for its first time, if everything goes fine, you'll have CM7 installed and your phone will be functional again.
If you like the Rom, then look for tutorials so you can configure it the way you want and flash the gapps.
Hope this helps you
I think that the reason you got stuck in LG logo, was because you were installing a rom that doesn't automatically convert the EXT3 partition into EXT4 or something, or maybe what you installed wasn't a rom, i don't know, just be sure to check a little more in the future Good luck!
Note: not all roms require to flash gapps, only Cyanogenmods and some others.

First try to turn off the phone, with the phone OFF, press "Vol-" + "Power button" until turn ON.
You should be in Android Recovery Menu, select "wipe data/ factory reset" and press "Power button", next screen go untill the middle and select "yes" and press "Power button". After that just reboot.
If everything went good should be enough, otherwise you need to re-flash.

The OP probably was asking for a way to regain control of his phone without the need to lose any personal data, as the factory reset will surely do. Unfortunately you are right, that is the last step before having to manually re-flash the original firmware and it's the only solution available to him now.
But a bit of advice, in case something similar happens again in the future. Just like with computers it's always advised to take a backup of your important files before tampering/tinkering with the software. And there are many ways right now to do this. We have CWM recovery (thanks to Dexter) which can be used for backup purpose, on the Play Store, there are also apps like Titanium Backup and the new Titanium Media Sync that can accomodate easily and simply all your backup needs. Although the present situation is a bitter pill to shallow, it will come to pass fortunately, so keep in mind the above tips to save yourself from grief and anguish in the future.:fingers-crossed: Best regards

well, im really lucky, yesterday i wanted to use deodex & remove stock apps script, and i made an backup in CWM first, as i havent removed it, and i went to bed, and in bed i started removing some stock apps, if i reflash the phone (hard reset wont work) will the internet storage be removed ? if it doesnt i can just restore the backup right?, then i will backup all the games and other data, and reflash 10G (maybe) or just 10f, as i have deodexed it at backup
If your backup was on the external sdcard, as its always suggested, I dont think it will be deleted, but for the sake of certainty remove the memory card prior to trying anything. If the backup is on the internal sdcard, then it will be deleted (I speak from personal experince since my phone also entered a bootloop and the only solution was to re-flash the official firmware) - quick and painless if you the guide correctly.

If you want to backup a system image, then only CWM can help you. If you want to backup certain files/apps/settings there are a number of ways and programs to help you with that: LG's own backup offering, Titanium Media Sync, App Backup Pro, etc...

[NOOB-Friendly] starting flashing and customizing on most Samsung Devices

So i will be making a for rooting and flashing tutorial for beginners!
So i will need to tell you a few things first.
Installing ROM's is not illegal though rooting is illegal in the following country's:
North Korea
Malaysia
Singapore
South Korea
SO IF YOU DONT LIVE THEIR THEN STOP COMPLAINING ABOUT ROOTING IS HIGHLY ILLEGAL
And if your running total stock android then i will make a short tutorial on how to install your first ROM
This method is nearly the same for switching ROM's, though after the tutorial i will explain the only thing thats different.
Also this works for all ROM's.
NOTES:
I am not gulity of anything that happens to your device
Your warranty will be void
You will lose all your Apps, except photos and files
Here is what you will need:
A version of CWM to your specific phone (Please notice depending on ROM's android version, you will need a KK-compatible for a Kitkat ROM or a ICS compatible for a Ice cream Sandwich ROM etc.)
Download: https://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
gApps
Download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/gapps-consolidated-gapps-thread-t3064693
SuperSU
Download: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053
I will be using CyanogenMod12.1 for this tutorial!
Download: http://www.cyanogenmod.org/
Odin 3.07 not higher.
Download: http://www.android.gs/download-odin-3-07/
A working Computer
USB cable for your phone.
Your phone needs to be charged 100% before doing this.
So lets begin!
1. Start by plugging your phone to your PC
2. Start ODIN
3. Hit the PDA button and find your custom recovery and hit OK.
4. Make sure you have your ROM, gApps and SuperSU on your phone.
5. Turn off your phone and hold HOME + POWER + Volume down
6. When a screen appears press Volume up
7. Press start on ODIN and wait till your phone reboots
8. Now power it off and hold HOME + POWER + Volume Up till your recovery comes up
9. Now factory reset and go to Mounts and Storage and format /system
10. Go to advanced tab under you main menu on the recovery
11. Press Wipe dalvik cache
12. At the main menu, go to Install zip now choose either from SD card or Internal Storage Device
(Depending on location)
13. find your ROM and press it
14. After a while when its done, go to install zip and find where you placed gApps and flash it
15. Now factory reset and go to advanced tab and wipe dalvik cache
16. Reboot your device, and wait till you see the Welcome screen
17. Set up your device.
18. Power off you phone and hold HOME + POWER + Volume Up
19. Now install zip and find SuperSU and flash it
20. Reboot your phone and your done!
21. ENJOY!
If done successfully, you should now learned the basics of flashing, though you dont need to install a new recovery everytime,
Though you might need it if you gonna change android version if the ROM dont have a recovery.
Also fo beginners, gApps is for play store and google apps generally, and the SuperSU is for rooting.
But if you wanna become a pro, start switching ROM often.
If you want to know a pro tip, before installing a new ROM, always format /system and factory reset.
As it makes the success rate 99.99%, but if your phone is stuck at the boot screen, then its because you haven't format /system
and factory reset, or you forgot to factory reset after the install of gApps.
If you phone keeps booting into your recovery instead of your ROM, then you have installed a new recovery over the ROM's
recovery, thats not compatible with your'e ROM or its only compatible with another Android-version
If you encounter a problem please comment your phone model and your ROM and Recovery and your problem
I will help as much as possible
I searched around before uploading this, if their is one earlier made than me please send a email to
[email protected] and i will take it down ASAP
Please post your thread in the appropriate forum next time. This thread is closed.
