[Q] Trying to Restore to Stock.... 8 reboots wont work :( - Nook Color General

Is there some sort of trick? The first time i stopped the reboot successfully, but i can't even get to two in a row, the second time it always boots.
And what is considered as the bootscreen, the "n" nook or the Droid-ish nooter bootscreen?

you need to tell people what's the stock version you have in your nook.
The "8 times" way is only working for version 1.0.0, and yes, it's very hard to get there.
The version 1.0.1 dose not have "hard ware reset", it only has software reset which you can hold the "power" and "home" button together for couple seconds, and then it will reset.
The best way I use is just to burn a booted SD CWR , and use it to boot the device and restore the rom.

Im running rooted stock 1.0.0, when you say SD CWR does that mean bootable clockworkmod? If i did that what rom would i choose to restore, if i have no backups?

Nook Color won't boot

My NC wont boot no matter what I do. When I connect it to my pc (windows xp) I get an RNDIS ethernet gadget in the new hardware notifications. The nook was rooted but I did a hard reboot before finishing the setup because it wouldn't connect to my google account. The NC wont even show the "touch the future of reading screen" and I cant get adb to find the device. I rooted when I had freshly wiped everything and downgraded to 1.0.0 then I upgraded to 1.0.1 then I rooted. It worked fine until after the hard reset.
HELP!!!!
FIX!
I'm sorry for the double post, but I want to make this clearly visible when someone else has this problem.
So, all you have to do to get it to boot is try to put the device into recovery mode. It won't actually go into recovery mode though, it will just boot into the regular os.
Clockwork Mod Recovery
I can't go into recovery. I have Clockworkmod installed.
bumpity bump,
Im back to this issue seems my fix up there wasn't right. I did a FULL wipe on the nook (/system, /data) and then proceeded to update and root. after rooting I rebooted the nook with the autonooter sd card still inserted and then the device wouldnt boot. I tried removing the sd card and still no luck. adb doesn't find it but it is detected as a "RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget" under windows. Is there a way for me to boot the nook?\
EDIT:
got it to boot by mashing the power button and putting nookie froyo inside :/ im not sure why but thats probably how I got it last time too.
Clockwork...did the same thing

Folks,
I've done the same thing. I backed up with Clockwork to the SD. The Nook would only boot into Clockwork. So, I recovered and now the device will not power up at all. I fear that I have bricked a wonderful device that I spent alot of time on. It will not boot at all, will not respond to the power button at all and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions or am I screwed?
FG.
I have the same problem with Motitas and it was updated to 1.1 recently. Please help.
the screen stops to nook icon only. does it mean i have a brick now ? PLEASE Help.
Please read my threa a few threads down from this one, titled "dummies guide to my nook wont boot." it explains everything.

Nook color won't turn on, won't boot sd card

Well I don't know what I did but this morning when my nookie froyo emmc was at 20 percent it decided to turn off and not turn on and won't turn on when charged and will not boot any sd cards. I feel stupid but after my nook working on emmc froyo for a week and now its not even turning on I feel very stupid. All help is appreciated, thanks!

Have you tried booting to the CWR card yet? And using Samuelhalff's zip that restores the stock partitions? This seems to have worked for many people experiencing the fatal Froyo crash. Take a look at the 'Easily Restore to Stock" thread found here in the Nook forums. And in the end if your device truly won't turn on, then chances are the guys down at B&N won't be able to either. *Warranty*
Well I have tried monster root pack as a card but I haven't tried stock partitioning,i dont know where the thread is. But will this let me even boot an sd card ?

Were you running froyo off emmc? If so:

I recommend flashing this ROM instead though (pre-rooted 1.1):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
And yes if you insert the CWR sdcard into the nook and hold the power button, it will power on. The reason it isnt powering on currently is because your froyo boot partition is corrupted, not because of the nook itself. The CWR sdcard has a different boot partition that your nook will see and boot to when you hold the power button down with the CWR sdcard in.

Thats my post from an earlier thread with someone having the same issues. It worked for him, it should work for you. Just make sure you follow the steps right and especially make sure your burning the Clockwork image to your SDcard correctly that way it will boot into Clockwork instead of staying black.
I'm gonna have to give these steps a whirl. The downloads are taking foreeeever.
Also had Froyo installed with CWM and just got finished installing gapps. I went to format an SD card, had no luck, and tried to reboot. Ol' Nookie decided not to come back to life after that.
edit: wait, instead of flashing the stock rom can I flash the pre-rooted 1.1 rom?
Just read this over on android central (in a thread about flashing honeycomb). I believe it is what I did and why my nook won't boot:
****While running Honeycomb from Internal Memory NEVER choose the option to format your SD Card from within Honeycomb. The files that were altered to let HC run internally will lead the OS to actually format your boot partition instead of your SD. If you need to format an SD, do it on your computer or in an Android phone, etc.*****

Drat. Just got my CWM image on my sd card. Here goes nothin! Will report back
OK, I have CWM booting off the SD card, i'm formatting system and data under mounts and storage, and then i'm installing the 1.0.1 complete restore. It goes through and then I got to reboot system. Then...nothing. Back to black screen. Help please!
I can pop the SD card back in and boot back to CWM. I've tried several times now with no luck
samuelhalff has a flashable zip that restores the boot partition for situations like this. Go look for it in the development forum. you should be able to flash it using CWR and your NC ought to boot.
eyecrispy, thank you! samuelhalff's boot zip followed by his 1.0.1 complete restore zip did the trick.
RileyGrant, thank you for your post as well. Much obliged!!
Mine just shows a blank screen. All I did was boot into ClockwordMod Recovery, make a backup, then reboot. I was going to flash the Honeycomb Rom, but decided to give it some more thought first. Now All I get is the blank screen, it won't power all the way off, and it won't power on or anything
EDIT: Managed to get it to turn off, but when I turn it back on it boots into recovery. I select Reboot System now, and it reboots back into recovery. Forgive me, I'm so new to this Nook Color thing lol
EDIT AGAIN: Tried using the Monster Pack or whatever, flashed the removeclockwork.zip, followed by the installclockwork.zip, then removed the SD card, rebooted, and went right back into Clockwork Recovery. What gives?
YUP Same thing happened to me. I have read all the posts in this thread and i did try to format the card i had in my nook in the brand new phiremod froyo rom. Now it wont boot at all. I have a CRW card on hand and it wont even boot that. Idk right now, nothing is working.
Try reading through the Dummies Guide to Fixing 'My Nook Won't Boot'.
I did it last night and I'm back up and running again. Here's my post for an abridged version of what I did last night: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11374824&postcount=29
I had the same problem until I flashed the repartition fix.
Give that a try
I've got the exact same problem as the OP. Running Froyo on EMMC with no problems for a few days, then I left it for a while and now it wont turn back on or boot from uSD.
I've tried long presses on the power key, usb cable power up, but nothing works. I've tried the v4 HC image and the clockwork recovery image and neither are booting.
I verified the CWR image on my android phone and it does boot on my phone, so the image is definitely okay.
Hate to think it, but could this be a battery management issue in the 0.6.7 image and the battery is now screwed? Doesn't seem like boot partition corruption to me.
Any comments or suggestions are welcomed

how did you get yours to turn off, my screen says loading... and is stuck there. any help in getting mine to shut off would be helpful
Does holding power button for a few seconds turn it off?
Same thing happened to me, this fixed my problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=986977
Sorry for asking what's probably a silly question, but I haven't seen an answer. Is this known to the Nookie dev(s) and being addressed? Just had it happen running Nookie 0.6.8 off the SD card. I was really enjoying it and just telling the wife how I think I'll flash it to the eMMC, but I might have to reconsider if this might occur. Battery was ~80%, no goof-ups reformatting anything. Locked the screen around 1:10 this afternoon & hadn't touched it since. Got home about an hour ago to turn it on, nothing. Disappointing, Nookie is pretty good!
nook color wont turn on
so what to do if i dont have a sd card with cwr or honeycomb (what i was trying to run)ive already called for the replacement, but i would still like to know what to do.
I found this thread after suffering the same or similar problem to everyone else. I turned off the screen and set my nc aside for a few minutes, then it would no longer boot. Screen just stayed black and was completely unresponsive to any input. Working my way through some troubleshooting, I plugged the nc into my computer via USB and it booted into CM7 instantly. I have no idea why this happened, but it's working fine now.

Nook bricked, please help

Ok so here's what happened.
I rooted my nook with autonooter 3.0.0, then I installed rom manager to install cwm. I installed the latest version of cwm and I tried to make a backup, it ended up in my nook only booting in cwm. So I found a cwm removal script and removed cwm. I booted my nook and opened rom manager and I decided to try an older version of cwm. I pressed make a backup in rom manager and it just went into a boot loop. I can't really turn off my nook, and I can't really turn it on. It just keeps going to "touch the future of reading", then turns off, then a couple of minutes later, goes back to "touch the future of reading". To make it clear, I do not have a backup.
So can anyone please assist me in fixing my nook? I'm in a dead end here.
Sounds like a boot loop try
Method one: Eight interrupted Boots
1. Power off the nook.
2. Tap the power button.
3. As soon as Welcome to the future of reading appears, hold the power button down to interrupt the boot process.
* If the boot animation does not appear, add 1 to your interrupted boot count.
* If the boot animation DOES appear, your interrupted boot count is reset to zero. Start over.
4. Repeat from step 2 until your failed boot count reaches 8. At this point, the nook will re-flash its /system partition. You will see the process on the right.
From Nook Devs
i went through this yesterday... i was told you can't brick a nook color so I restored it back to the original firmware...go to this website www.theunlockr.com then click the how to's then go to Android and look for Nook Color then look for how to restore to stock firmware and follow the instructions. they worked for me and I'm sure they will work for you also...Good Luck

You need to boot a stock image. Try this link http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...ll-clockwork-recovery-revert-stock-image.html
I'm So hoping someone will help me, I tried to root my device but it didn't work I couldnt get off the software so I installed 2gb clockwork 0.7 and nook complete restore 1.0.1 I followed all tutorials carefully, but when it comes to restore data it says no files found. Lost, I went ahead with the restore. It appeared to work except now I get a message flashing up that I cant read the screen just flashes and I think the partitions are lost too. I'm on the verge of tears. (im a girl dont judge) lol. And I'm lost with my expensive doorstop. PLEASE can anyone help me fix this as i'm at a loss (
No need to worry. The nice thing about the NC is that it will always boot from the SD card first. Sounds like you tried this...I suggest deleting everything you have (clockwork mod files, stock restore files etc) re-download everything and start fresh.
on your computer, format your uSD card, use Win32DiskImager to flash the clockwork mod boot image onto the uSD card and copy over the stock restore files. Place the uSD card into the NC and reboot. you should boot into clockwork mod and from there you can install the stock zip file from the uSD card.
GL!
Thanks,
I managed to get it working by resetting 8 times and booting a factory reset, but now it wont install any updayes and i'm stuck on the poo 1.01 software. I tried putting the official update on clockwork and booting from there but it says file bad with any version I use (screams in frustration)
This will fix your partitions
It was awhile ago, so I don't remember the exact steps, but the following file will fix everything...
nookie-froyo-0.6.8.custom.3.zip
When you unzip it you will get the following:
nookie-froyo-0.6.8.custom.3.img
You will need a program like 'WinImage' to write this image file to your SD Chip. Once done, boot your Nook with this chip and install Froyo. You probably don't want Froyo, but thats OK. This is just the first step... but it is key.... This install will 100% recreate and fix all your partitions.
Now you have two choices,
1. Find a stock nook image, and install it to your nook. I think it is 1.01
or
2. Find 'boot.img' and 'system.img' for the nook color. Write those to a bootable SD chip and install.
I am not sure if it was #1 or #2 that worked for me. Try #1 first. If it works, you will be able to start up your nook and register it with B and N. Then you can download their 1.2 update and install it as they instruct.
Good luck.
Follow this thread and you can get it back to original stock 1.0 or 1.01 and then do the updates as normal by waiting for OTA or sideloading them.

Touch the future of reading

Currently I am running nookie froyo 0.6.8 from the internal rom but I am having the following problem even when I had eclair with autonooter. When I am turning off my nook for the night, in the morning I am stuck at the "Touch the future..." screen and I can only boot through clockwork recovery and choose reboot. I think that it started when I flashed clockwork for the first time, but I am not sure. Any ideas?

I am searching the forums to find an answer to the same problem. I am running stock eclair that has been autonootered. I don't have clockwork installed. I can always boot with the sdcard to Honeycomb.. sometimes I can then reboot back into Eclair.
i had this one time, i try the 8 failed boot's to restore, didn't restore but rebooted to eclair!
arf, i'm having the same problem after all..
I had the same thing happen to me had to reformat cache if I wanted to boot into froyo, its a great system but that one problem did me in went back to stock and rooted the NC and plan on staying this way I just give up flash.Looked all over for fix or someone to explain why but never did get an answer sorry i couldnt help you but if i find answer will let you know
ok will look forward when i have time
At this point i can boot by pressing power + n for 30s, it boot to recovery, then i choose "reboot"
Yes that's right, this is the only way I can boot too (power but. + n).
when rebooted i lower setcpu to 1ghz max. it seems to help to boot ..
There are some really good unbricking//"my nook won't boot" sort of threads to be found in the developers section; but this one should be more than enough to fix your issues:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
Additionally, I find that reflashing to a stock ROM or restoring a previous working backup image from CWM is the best way to go about it. Good luck!
I have the same problem too. Just remove the SD card on power on (reboot with software is OK)
Looking for better fix.

Thx, I'll take a look at that if I ever have booting issues.
Think this is caused by the recovery image. Upgrade your recovery to the latest version 3.0.1.0 and see if that fixes it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971197
Going to try that today ..I just looked and i do have an older recovery file so maybe that is the problem will report back later on it.
Did the update, I will shut it off for the night and will check it in the morning.
Sent from my Nook Color
I also read CWR does not get along with 1.1..I just updated CWR and it still did the same thing what Im going to do now is clean restore then custom froyo then after setup go to market get rom manager install reboot into recovery and then install the remove crw with root file.
I downloaded the restore to stock zip file. Put it on the sd card. Then used the power and "n" to get to the butloader. Chose install from sd card and it installed. Back to operational!

Urgent Newbie, Nook Ruined?

I need some serious help, I guess. I couldn't even tell you what happened.
**NOTE: I have to post the youtube titles the to tutorials I used since I'm new. I can't post the links.***
Anyway, I am new to nook. I tried to get cute and root it (and thought I was doing so with the MicroSD method) but it wasn't the way I wanted to do so.
I followed this guys tutorial [SEARCH YOUTUBE FOR How to Install CyanogenMod 7 on the Nook Color (PC Version)] to install CyanogenMod 7 on the Nook Color.
Here I am everything's going along fine, and then he gets to the part where he says "take out the SD card and reboot..." and I'm going "WHAAAT?!" I didn't want to root my nook, but create a start up image on my MicroSD card so it wouldn't come to this situation...
Anyway, I did what he said because I'd gone too far as it was. When I tried to reboot, the CyanogenMod 7 screen just stuck loading and loading. I rebooted NUMEROUS times, and nothing... so I repeated all his steps again, and nothing.
I tried to format the cache, data and system. That worked fine... but I think at one point I accidentally chose "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition."
I tried using his reversal method here [SEARCH YOUTUBE FOR How to Unroot / Restore / Unbrick the Nook Color (PC Version)] to get my NC back to normal, but upon following these steps, found myself with an error when trying to format the data.
The error reads, "Formatting /data... Error formatting /data!"
Does ANYONE have any idea what I did, and how I can reverse it?
I can pay a couple of bucks to whoever helps me out to show you that I am dead serious about this.
I am a newb, so I'd need some detailed instructions.
I have two MicroSD cards that I can use, one 2GB and one 16GB.
Please help!!!
Email me at [email protected]... please due let me know if you have Skype or Yahoo. I prefer a live chat.
PLEASE... God bless you.
I apologize. I think I posted this in the wrong section.
Firstly, don't panic, no need to. If the first time doesn't work out, try a couple more times.
Secondly, we're here to help so relax and try to tackle your issue slowly.
Now, be sure to tell us what you intend to do NOW (at this stage of your NC)?
a. returning to the original stock ROM or
b. installing and running CM7 from internal memory (aka. eMMC) or
c. booting CM7 off uSD card
If the answer is either a or b, then first step, try getting the ClockworkMod Recovery (CwM R) version 3.2.0.1.
If you want to go back to stock on a NC you can ALWAYS do so(unless you screwed with your partitions which I doubt you did) by doing this simple thing:
-Power it off.
-Now turn on.
-While it's booting up hold down both POWER and N buttons. This will power your nook off no matter what every time, it's built right into the device. Great for getting out of bootloops.
-Do this EIGHT TIMES.
Your Nook was designed to be nearly "UnBrickable". After 8 failed boots it will always restore it's factory settings. So unless you've tried this and it did not work, then no, your Nook is not ruined. Obviously you don't wanna have an SD card in there while doing this, or you will probably get AIDS.

you can also do it by holding down "Power" "N button" and "Up volume" at same time and it will do a factory reset
