Hey guys, overclocked my nook to 1.1ghz. Just wondering what setting I should pick in SetCPU. I have it on conservative right now, is anyone using Performance? Also should I leave the minimum at 300mhz? Or bump it up to 600mhz?

Performance locks the cpu at the max frequency you set which is harder on the battery and potentially wears down the cpu itself a bit more. So i only run it when i run something extremely demanding...like psx4droid etc.
For most purposes on demand is the best balance, since conservative will cause slow downs as it is reluctant to throttle the cpu up. What id do is set 600 min 1100 max on demand as default, and then set a profile to lock the cpu at 300mhz when the screen is off.
I recommend setting the minimum to 600mhz the maximum to 1100mhz and using either conservative or on demand, both work well.

No OC Settings as I use NC for web browsing/reading mostly.
300MHz 0.8125V
450MHz 0.95V
600MHz 1.075V
800MHz 1.1875V
900MHz 1.25V
It's fairly likely that undervolting the lower frequencies does almost nothing for power save because that's when the CPU is in sleep states anyway and partially powered down. It'll make more impact when the CPU is busy working on something and high clocked. But still the LCD is the main user of power.
Undevoltage does help with battery life

Hi Swaaye,
I don't agree as I have personally observe an increase of 30% battery life through undervolting, especially to lower frequencies.
Through SetCPU, I know that the CPU of my Nook spends around 67% of it time at 300Mhz, 15% of the time at 800Mhz and 7% at 1200Mhz. By dropping the voltage at the lower voltage range, I do actually see much improvement in my overall battery life.

It's much more likely that you changed something else to cause a large battery life improvement like that.
-Wifi disabled
-Differences in GPU or DSP activity
-Lower screen brightness
-Bluetooth disabled
-Less CPU usage overall (fewer background apps)
If you want to prove me wrong feel free to run several full battery cycle tests with identical usage patterns varying only voltage.
been running with these settings for about 2 months now and has been vary smooth and stable. battery life has also been vary good. over night 7hrs only 1-2%

How has your battery life and performance been?
I'm curious: How do these overclock/undervolt settings for the NC compare with the stock NT?
Hey does someone know the overclock configuration that was posted on the Overcome page once? I'm running on Overcome 4.1 with the belonging Kernel which allows me to get to 1.6ghz (theoretically) and I'd like to overclock to 1.2ghz.
I'd be very grateful if you could help me

Just use Voltage Control or SetCPU. It's really not that hard at all. Just be careful with your voltages-overvolting will eat your battery more but may allow you to reach higher frequencies, and undervolting may get you better battery life but may make your tab unstable.
As a reference, I have my Tab running at 100-1.4 with smartassv2 and stock voltages on the Overcome 4.0 kernel.

At least that's what I use on my phone. I just left everything alone on my tab.

This is what worked for me as well, just don't check"set at boot" option till you've tried that speed for a few days and you config proves stable.

Haha, I did check that option when I foolishly set the OC max to 1.6GHz
...I was just able to uninstall between one of the many lopping reboots
Anyway all, sorted now. In fact I have reverted to stock voltage for 1GHz up to 1.3GHz because playing Trial Xtreme2 would cause a reboot when I'd exited the game - seem's all ok now *touches wood*

My freq now is 633 mhz..still will it shorten the life of my cpu???
Or higher freq and I mean not just for gaming,for everyday use.
Its mainly cuz of 360 launcher.
You need some higher freq to get the smooth look.

Well, I've been using Overclock since the Day overclock came out..
And i have no damn problems .. CPU is still working Great!
And just to let ye know its clocked on 768 MHz ;D

Your x8 will be Okay
But if u kept using it for long periods..
it might endanger Your CPU
Also be careful not to fall into a bootloop .. uncheck the Set on Boot option ..
check if it's working alright on 768 .. then check the Set on boot..

Overclocking by 33MHz isn't dangerous, that's very mild.
In General - the more you overclock from the specified values (in case of the X8: 600MHz) the more heat you produce and the more you push the chip to the bleeding edge.
In short: Every integrated circuit has some headroom for overclock as the manufacturer specifies the clock rate at an safe value and not at the very bleeding edge where variances in the chip making process could lead to too high yields because they don't run stable with the clock frequency. In general you don't do your electronics a favor when pushing it too far. 700MHz+ will surely shorten the life span of your phone, how much would need to be seen as there's no real long-term experience.

You see after some thinkig it aint the cpu freq that is slow.
I set my low freq when in sleep on 245 so the phone is slow on waking up.
When you set it on high the phone will respond better!
like PC, when overclock it may reduce processor life
any clock reduces the life of your cpu. the higher the clock rate less life cpu
Hi, I'm tempted to push CPU beyond current 1200MHz, no Undervolting. I want to do a survey on what CPU frequency settings and UV hold you for daily use. :silly:
I'm currently using 1.3GHz/368MHz with smartassV2 governor. Good performance and good battery life on IceColdSandwich 8.2. At 1.4GHz or higher, it's unstable and the phone freezes while the screen is powered off sometimes.
I'm currently running 1420MHz with Ondemand governor, no UV, with no problems.

I have my inc2 ocd to 1.5ghz on a daily basis , used to run cm at 1.8ghz daily with little overheating (nothing high enough to worry about), and I've also ran quadrant tests on cm7 at 2ghz.right now I'm running cm10 at 1.3ghz very stable.although sometimes in set CPU transitioning to a high freq like above 1.6 my phone would lock up but it seems like it happened only in ICS ROMs .idk hope this helps.BTW I never under or over volt

2) max- 480mhz,min- 245mhz, ondemand, deadline.
No, you can't because mini's processor's default max is 600mhz and keeping (forcing) it to min. 701mhz will probably ruin your processor so stay away from high min. frequencies.... Happy OC....

so basically my min freq should not go above 600mhz...?
min frequency should not go above 200mhz
if you will set min frequency as 700 your mobile may reboot
and you can't oc stock rom, you will need to have custom rom like emanon
If you OC a lot then the camera might not work also.
just check all the things before doing OC
