[Q] G-mail Problems on AT&T Captivate - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Unable to login to G-mail from phone.
The message I get:
“Your phone needs to communicate with Google servers to set up your account this may take up to 5 minutes’
After a few minutes I get this message:
“Can’t establish a reliable data connection to server.”
I have tried to login from phone about 10 times, from many different location including some from a Wi-Fi connection. Same failure
My phone is a Samsung Captivate (at&t with a 2G data plan)
Does anyone have any suggestion?

TyTn 2 and data connection

Hi
I got a TyTn 2 and setup a vodafone connection (PAYG). I also used the automatic setup on the device. Now when I try a GPRS / 3G connection it always fails. When I delete all the settings and try again it will connect, load a webpage / email etc. but then 5mins later I get the error back again. The error says "Dailed: cannot connect for an unknown reason check your connection settings blah blah blah. In my connection settings I have the vodaphone connection I setup (userid = web password = web) and the one the automatic system on the device setup called contract internet.
Any ideas?

Problems connecting to hotmail account

Hi There,
I have a HTC viva, when I try an connect to my hotmail account (obviously using the correct settings etc), I get a message telling me that windows live was unable to establish an internet connection.
The data connection is turned on, I have had access to my mail before however, I have loaded spb menu on there and when I chech the internet side of this, it tries to open Opera to access the internet.
How do I stop the phone from using opera to access the internet, as I think it is this that is stopping me from getting my e-mails etc?
Also, cannot send or receive picture messages, as like the above, my type of contract lets me do this.
Cheers

Agh... Can't setup Gmail

Ok... I'm going nuts. I am trying to setup someones Hero on Sprint with a work Gmail account (not @Gmail, it is Gmail small business). I know she has a data connection because I can browse the internet but any time I try and add the Gmail account, it hangs for ~2 minutes and then says it can't add the account because I may have an inconsistent data connection. This occurs on CDMA, company WiFi or even when I'm broadcasting my MyTouch 4G's HSPA via WiFi and the Hero picks it up. The exact error is:
" Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care"
Anyone have any ideas? I've reboot, cleared data on Gmail but can't think of anything else.

[Q] Lumia 521 ready to use on TMO network - no internet access over wifi

Re-writing the original post, to make it more clear:
- acquired new Lumia 521, as a TMo ready package
- plugged in the SIM card (not sure if relevant ot my Q, but just for clarification), but NOT registered yet with TMo
- connected to multiple wifi SSIDs/APs, w/out problem (i.e. checked the wifi indicator + IP info in the network settings, i.e. getting an IP from the AP)
- launched IE on the phone - no connectivity to any site
- attempted google email account setup -> upon using my credentials, nothing happens (no account gets setup, no errors received)
- launched weather channel => get info just fine
Q- is it possible for these phones to actually require an initial setup on the TMO network, to allow connectivity via IE or gmail on wifi??? Cannot make any sense of the behavior exhibited ...

Some features do require an activated SIM, but web browsing is not one of them. That's weird. You may want to try hard-resetting the phone, possibly after activating the account.

Google account sync

Running into a weird issue on my Nexus 6 (not rooted, VZW). When I am connected to my corporate WiFi, my Google accounts don't seem to receive new data. No Hangouts messages, no Gmail, nothing. If I do a manual refresh I can get data (so the connection itself is working), but that is the only way until I connect to another network (WiFi or LTE). My old phones did not have this issue, so I don't think the corporate network is blocking access. Anyone have any ideas?

The network may not be "blocking" access, but may be breaking it. You are talking about the push services not working, probably after some short amount of time. If the network is subject to heavy use or has a *poopy* router, it could be recycling persistent connections too soon.
I.e., there are a total of 65536 available ports available for each IP address. A significant portion of these are not available for use. Of the remaining, each inbound connection needs to be routed through some port. If the total number of connections exceeds the number of available ports, then you MUST recycle ports. An inbound port is required for EVERYTHING, including the response to an OUTBOUND HTTP request.
