[Q] Rooted, ROMed, now new theme? - Android Themes

I recently rooted my fascinate, installed Super Clean v0.9 and the StupidFast v1.54 kernel. Now how do I go about installing a new theme? When I try to download themes from ROM Manager I get "error occurred while processing this ROM". What am I doing wrong? I see these screenshots on the forums of the awsome themes but I don't know how to get them. I've tried reinstalling ROM Manager but no luck. Thanks in advance.
BTW, my phone is running great with this set-up. Fast. 14-hour battery. No lag.

well, the good news: the hard part is over! Certain themes are only compatible with certain ROMS, so start by typing the name of your ROM followed by themes and see what you get. Probably a list on droid forums, usually.
Then it's as easy as downloading the .zip onto your computer, putting in the root of your sd card, reboot phone into recovery, mount SD card, install from .zip, look for the .zip on the list, and install. Obviously don't wipe any data.

please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong

I successfully installed the blue haze them for my myTouch. I am running the current cyanogen mod for it. That all worked great, but when I try to install any other theme, I get stuck at boot screen.
I tried the District 9 theme, the clone theme and a couple others.
Am I missing something? I'd feel a lot better if the first theme hadn't worked but it did and now.....GRRRR
Help?
it happens to me too but i dont know why. there are themes who works good and others not.
for example, install a theme and connect your phone to pc, do 'adb logcat ' it will show you all the steps that phone do!!
there are themes that (on my phone) goes on loop at 23% of something, others that launcher give problems and you will see all black!! (except for lockscreen).
if you want to be sure how to install a themes do this passage:
reboot to recovery
install the rom
reboot
watch if the rom works good (it should)
reboot again to recovery
flash the theme
reboot
do adb logcat

That's the best advice. And it's best to flash a theme unto a fresh unthemed rom, rather than a themed one. Less probability of having problems. Hope that helps!
so lets say I'm using cyanogen 4.2.15.1
I would wipe, install cyanogen, reboot, install theme, reboot?
Are there some themes that won't work on cyanogen that will on regular donut?
What about the theme CM theme updater? I can't get that to find any new themes.

Yes, the process you described is exactly right.
Yes, there are themes that will work on standard 1.6 that wont work on CM because CM contains LOTS of stuff from eclair.
CM theme updater requires a json to be input to search for updates for specific themes. it's not automatic.
ok thanks. I found that I needed to revert back to an older CM version to get that district 9 working. Its working like a champ now.
So there is no way to change the theme (when using cyanogen) without doing a wipe?
Sorry for being a noob!
no, you can definitely change themes without wiping. however, it does cause problems from time to time. I highly recommend metamorph for just this process.

[Q] Theme and market problem (should be easy for you lott ;D)

Hey everyonee
im having seriouse trouble with my SanFrancisco phone from orange ( Zte Blade )
iv successfully rooted my phone and have clockworkrecoveryMod Working fab
but i have a couple of problems, i recently upgraded to froyo (android 2.2) using this page: Orange San Francisco phone handset – How to unlock, root and upgrade Android 2.1 to 2.2 FroYo The IT Bod
i have done this correctly and im happy with the result, (apart from all my data been lost, but i dont mind as long as i have froyo
but heres the problem,
I realllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy like this theme
Minimal Matte 1.5 CM6 Full Rom! 8/7 - xda-developers
http://www.xda-developers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/matte.png
so iv saved the theme as update.zip and put it in the root of my phone,
then i opend clockwork and selected the theme correctly, and installation was succesfull,
but when i boot up again after the installation the android startup screen is stuck,
and also, using this new froyo, i cant seem to download and install apps of the market?
anyone helpp plzzz )))))))))
Just do these commands, you need to reflash your froyo rom, but your data is lost i think. Open your recovery and make:
1. Full wipe
2. wipe cache
3. wipe SD:ext
3. Flash your froyo rom, than reboot and you get back the original froyo.
Don't forget: every rom has a special theme for itself, you can't flash every theme with every rom. If you want an alternative read about metamorph.
is that rom even for your phone? Use the theme porter to inject the theme into your rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822949
hmm, im not too keen on wiping all the data again :/
the phone originally came with android 2.1 but you can root and update it to 2.2, is it possible that the rom i installed just doesnt support the themes? do i need to install a patch? im not even sure i backed up correctly, even thought in the rom manager i clicked backup" it didnt really do anything, this idea of injecting sounds good, but wouldnt the same problem occur?
thanks for replying

nah nothing wrong happens when you port the theme to the rom you are using. i've ported like 5-6 themes already.
iv been using clockworkrecoverymod to install the themes under update.zip
but theres also the problem with the market, iv done alot of searching to find out y the apps wont install of the market, any ideas? thx
im gradually thinking it would be best to start clean, and if i were to start again how would i install 2.2 android onto a zte blade without hacking it?
thnx alot ;D

[Q|Help] Finally Rooted. [Fascinate|CM7|Minimal Magic]

Yes. I finally rooted my phone.
After 6 months of use.
Anyway, I used the "Super-One-Click" method to root. Got SuperUser permission and all that. Which, apparently, signifies that I have root access now. amirite?
k
Now. I downloaded a rom/theme I want applied to my phone. Called "Minimal Magic."
It's like sleek and simplistic. Black and white. Which is what I want for the Launcher that I'm using. (Launcher7)
So after a little research on my own.
I know that I need:
-a version of CyanogenMod.
-to back up current ROM stuff.
-reboot in recovery? to flash the rom.
Rooting wasn't hard and I didn't feel like I would brick it or lose any data/files.
But seeing the process of flashing a rom AFTER rooting. Idk. It's making me a little iffy.
From my understanding. It's going to "wipe" the entire rom that I'm currently running on my Fascinate. [2.1-update]
And flash this CyanogenMod rom? (Was thinking about getting CM6)
So when it flashes and assuming everything goes well, it's gonna be like a factory reset, but with a different rom, which I can apply the .apk I downloaded earlier of Minimal Magic for CM. But my launcher or settings won't be loaded, so I'd have to go back in and re-add everything? Update all the settings again and get everything back to normal, just with a different theme.
Maybe someone can walk me through this?
You need a rom that has the theme chooser (cm7) which minimal magic os compatible with. I'm running the theme right now. Yes you have to wipe, factory reset & all & yes you need a recovery to do this. When I first rooted I used the free app from the market called rom manager & I flashed the recovery that rom manager has which is clockword. I used this to backup my current stock rooted rom then I flashed the first new rom I used then after wiping. True enough you're responsible for what happens to your phone but I can say as long as you don't do anything really weird or stupid you should be fine...now I still use that recovery & I'm running aospcmod on my hero cdma sooooo roms, the process & blah blah could be different for your phone ....I hope this helps some

So, contacts, sms, photo ID's. Stuff like that will be gone?
I wish I didn't have to re-apply all my settings.
Also, I saw a video of a guy flashing a new rom. All of his apps were gone, since..obviously it was like a factory reset. That means I'ma have to install allll the apps I downloaded before, again? D:

Yes, but you can use apps like Titanium Backup (its not free, but the best there is), to backup all your apps and restore them later.
It also backs up sms, etc. but it is not guaranteed that it can be restored on a totally different rom.
btw: Use edit for a more descriptive title please something with your device and maybe CM7 and minimal magic.

[Q] reached brickwall with themes

hi.
i've had a galaxy i9000 for a few weeks now and today i decided to root the thing so i could try some sick themes.
rooting went fine, it's all done properly (i think...).
i got metamorph and tried to install this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726912
after a bit of persuasion, i got the phone to install it successfully, or so i thought. it asked me to reboot, so i did, but there are no changes to the phone, the default theme is still active.
excuse the bluntness, but what the hell do i need to do to get a theme running? i've spent like 2 hours trawling the net reading about cyanogenmod, nandroid, busybox and metamorph and i'm possibly more confused than when i started.
cheers
The ROM you use needs to be De-Odexed
if you are running a stock ROM, then you will never get a theme installed.
there are many Custom Stock - De-Odexed ROMs out there, if you like the stock feel
You should probably have clockworkmod to install the themes too. You can get this by flashing a custom kernel. E.g speedmod for froyo or CFroot for Gingerbread(make sure you get the right version for your rom) and flash either one with odin, read up before flashing and make sure you have download and recovery modes.
So most themes require:
A deodexed rom
CWM to install the theme
I didnt realise you are on CM7 - its still early and i didnt wake up long ago.
anyway a CM7 ROM will be de-odexed so scrap my last post. I dont know if that version is compatible with your version of CM7, However there is a theme section for CM7 only, and thats in the themes and apps section.
also when i was running CM7 you dont need to flash the theme in recovery. You install it like an .apk and there is a built in theme manager app with CM7 - you look in there for your theme and then hit install
is that what you have been doing ??

ok.
well, i'm running froyo firmware v2.2 and kernal v2.6.32.9.
so, what apps exactly do i need from here? i have a rooted phone with superuser, rom manager, metamorph and busybox.
so damn confusing, every page of information i read just clutters me up. there seems to be a sea of different versions of everything that are all incompatible with each other.
all i want to do is install some different themes.
quick bump. so close to knowing what to do, just need someone to quickly explain!
i thought u was running cyanogenMod ??
anyway, is your froyo rom a custom rom ?? if so its as simple as flashing it in recovery

My advice:
Install CF root, install clockworkmod recovery, download the theme you want and place it in your internal sd card.Boot in recovery, choose zip from sd card, flash it,reboot ready.
the rom still needs to be de-odexed, if its a stock rom with a custom kernel it still wont work
ok, what the hell is CF?
I DLed the latest CM "nightly" whatever that means for my phone but havent installed it to my phone yet cause im not sure how.
as for being a custom ROM or whatever, the phone is basically stock outta the box apart from being rooted.
thats why themes wont work, your still on stock.
CF root is a kernel, which gives you 2e CWM recovery...
Cyanogen can be a little tricky to install so i would HIGHLY recommend you read the instructions 5 times plus. or get used to flashing simple custom roms first.
I agree, dont mess with cm or miui till you are competent flasher
Sent from gt i9000 insanity 8.5/fugumod
For me GingerReal or Simply Honey have been fairly simple to install. Just folow the instructions to the letter.
Then you can simply can flash any themes from CMW

[ROM][CWM] Honeycomb 3.1 - Touchwiz UX - WIFI - DEODEXED (Updated 7/22/2011)

Pretty basic release. This is a deodexed version of the touchwiz wifi update.zip available in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1167250
I have not changed anything else in this ROM (though I am now working on a more streamlined touchwiz ROM using this deodexed version)
So no, this ROM is not meant to improve performance or fix any bugs from the stock touchwiz update. A deodexed ROM simply makes it possible/easier for devs to create patches that can address these issues, make themes, etc.
Warning: I am not responsibile for any damage you do to your device from flashing this update. Please be careful and follow the instructions below, and use at your own risk!

-Fixed WiFi issue (thanks to DocRambone for the fix)
-Fixed /system not being wiped properly during update
Installing:
Download and place somewhere on your /sdcard directory
Boot into CWM
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Wipe /data and /cache (you can skip this if you had flashed the r4-7/19/2011 previously)
Install this zip from sdcard
---
Rooting:
Flash su_busybox_misc-sam_tab_10.1-051511.zip using CWM / Rom Manager: http://droidbasement.com/galaxy/tools/su_busybox_misc-sam_tab_10.1-051511.zip
---
Before reporting any bugs please make sure you have followed these directions. If you are getting a boot loop you most likely missed one of the steps above.
If you are getting the "service temporarily unavailable message" you need to sign into your google account, it should go away after you do that
Have fun themeing and modding!

No, this update will make it possible to create and use modified versions of the apps + framework resources contained within the touchwiz ROM (i.e create themes, etc)

Are you talking about the special tilt / pan control? Just tested that, still doesnt work, but it may be possible now to patch the problem if someone can find it (in the deodexed resources).
Yeah I like the zoom feature, that's why I went back to the stock 3g touchwiz rom
Yeah i still didnt go back to stock 3g im just hoping somebody can find it in this deoxed rom but lets see
Can you pleaseeeee hook me up with the 3g touchwiz .zip??? IV looked everywhere! My tab is sooo slow with the wifi version but the 3g version, even with errors, was smoking fast! Thanks!

The linked root zip is optional, you don't have to flash right after, you can flash it whenever (but dont use any of the other rooting zips available for this tab, the linked one is the only compatible version). Your bootloop is probably caused by not wiping /data+/cache or the davlik cache. Follow the instructions in first post.

Did you try without ROM Manager the first time? If not try that first to be sure. Also provide device info please (wifi/3g/io/retail/v). I have not had any other reports of bootloops from people that were wiping data+cache+dalvik properly. You can try formatting /system (under CWM mount / storage menu option) if you are still getting this after manually doing everything through CWM at boot.
are you sure thats the 3G version? I went to download it and my pc sees it as exactly the same as the new wifi version... thank you sooo much for it either way! good looking out!!!

No if its not working in CWM it wont work if you do it through ROM manager. Redownload and verify the md5 hash from the original post. Boot into CWM recovery, wipe everything mentioned and retry.
