I don't think I've actually seen this floating around anywhere, so I figured I'd share. Its the Camera Firmware updater from Samsung. I've had mixed results with its use on different firmwares. My only issue being FCing on an older Bionix build, as well as a few older Voodoo builds. I've had little to no problems with more recent voodoo builds, just used it on Trigger 2.9.2 with no problems, I've even used it on a phone running Gingerbread without issue. Yes I play with allot of phones...

Downloading now.. will test on stock and modded FFC version and report back.
Said I had the lastest version and then automatically gave me the option to uninstall
anything noticeably different on this over the standard stock FW?
I have an FFC so I doubt it's worth my time to test if there's no FFC support...
Does anyone know what this firmware is supposed to update?

no idea however if you go into settings on the camera app, then go to firmware, then click on the second option firmware update
its downloadin and updating now on my phone i can report back later
I do not see any appreciable difference. granted i do not have an ffc so i cant comment on that. If you arent having any problems with your camera id say leave it alone.
Got this from Samsung apps. Nothing at all noticeable. Switched to captivate camera apk

Yea, no difference here either... or at least that I notice.
can you guys try the video recorder and see if it has the focus mode.

Anyone with a FFC (2nd gen) comment on this?
I've just installed it and tested it with the ffc (1st gen). There is not much different in my opinion. There seems to be a little less banding in low light condition and that's about it. 720p recording works well. I will test it with the 2nd gen camera tonight when I get home.

I have tested the new firmware on FFC v2. Its having different issues with the camera. When I record on 720p I get a white screen. Its recording but I see nothing. Once I stop it crashes. I than go to gallery and my recording its there @ 720p or at least it seems that way.
I have been testing with different camera.apk files... some be have differently than others. All for the worst I am afraid so

I install the file.
Using Bionix-V 1.3.1
When I open the file it tells me I am running the latest firmware.
It didnt do anything for me.
Edit:
Which camera apk are you using?
Edit Again: Now it just reboots in 720p
Another Edit wtf!: lol ok If I set the permissions on the filr to -r- only the file crashes. If I set them to rwx-rwx- it gives me the white screen while it records.
Any ideas?

I got my update right now through the camera app and it takes about a few minutes to update. Required for me to reboot. Really don't notice a difference but the annoying message of you need to update do you want to continue is gone now.
I'm using Koush's CM9 Alpha 12 ROM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356228 with the Franco kernel, and I'm saddened that it's sorely missing one big feature that i'm used to in the NSCollab ROM i came from. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959282)
In the stock Android 2.3.3 that came with the phone, if the Facebook app was installed, it could sync contacts over from your account, including phone numbers, emails, and pictures. The OTA 2.3.4 removed that function, as Google had deemed it as a violation of their TOS.
NSCollab (based off of CM7), which i'd used since 2.3.5, enabled that function somewhere in the system files, and it was fully usable, no questions asked. The CM9 build i'm using, however, lacks that feature.
I've compared both of their build.prop files and don't see any differences that would stand out, and I'm at an impasse here. I'm almost determined to find the setting in the CM7 ROM that allows Facebook syncing on this device and be able to use it in CM9. I'm not sure i want to comb every system file, though. Any assistance?
The reason it works in custom ROMs is because they patch it to work. It's not a build.prop issue I do not believe. It is a bit deeper than that. Hopefully someone can she some light to get it working. It's a feature I use as well.
But that's the explanation "why" it does not work.. because it's not supposed to by design lol.
by no means do I have an answer but, syncmypix in the market is a decent alternative for the tome being.

I'd determined that long ago, but i'm almost certain there's a flag somewhere in the system files. My cousin has an HTC Thunderbolt (horrible phone on the stock ROM) running the stock ROM, Gingerbread 2.3.5, and it's enabled on it. I know that Google specifically disabled it on their flagship phones, and i want to know how they did it and how to reverse it.

I have tried Syncmypix, Friendcaster, and another one that tries to re-enable native syncing, but none of them work near as well as native syncing.
In GB it was in system\app\ContactsProvider.apk , one line need to be added which whitelists com.facebook.katana. Maybe it's the same in ICS.
[edit]
There, I looked it up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978470
Here you can find the official statement from Google about Facebook sync:
http://www.androidguys.com/2011/02/23/google-drops-facebook-sync-nexus/
Anyway you can sync your contacts using Friendcaster and you can update your contact pics using syncmypix

I'd considered that, even set up a decompiling environment, but never got around to trying it. Just tried it, and found out that comparing the two ContactsProvider.apk files (from CM7 and CM9), that ICS does not use the arrays.xml that Gingerbread did. Adding it in, recompiling it, and signing it results in FC's and wiping out your contacts storage. Thank god for Titanium backup.
Edit: Derp, found out system apps aren't supposed to be signed. Trying again.

I well know what Google did, and i'm very disappointed in them. And i'd rather not use third-party apps if we can enable native syncing at the system level.
Pushing the unsigned apk doesn't cause FC issues, but it still doesn't sync. The Facebook app cuts off at "Other Settings". Does anyone want to test out the apk for me, see if they get the same results?
The APIs are different in ICS and doing the white list trick may not work. Check out the smali folder because there could be stuff that needs to be changed in there too...

I've already tried this. You'll be able to get the account to sync in Accounts, but the new contacts app is substantially different from the Gingerbread one... Like ^ says, I think a few smali edits have to be made to include this properly.

I'm combing the smali folder as we speak, but nothing stands out as a definitive match
The one problem about ics, you're working to fix. Thanks man! I hope you find your answer!
Haven't found it yet, though. I've been trying to get into contact with koush, see if he's had any insight.
MoDaCo got it working on the Galaxy Nexus. If anyone has the galaxy yet, you could upload his rom and them comb through the /system and see what has been changed. we could then possibly implement it for the Galaxy S as well.

Awesome, good looking out. Downloading it now, i'll be combing the files right away. You don't need to have the actual phone to peek at the system files
But unfortunately, it seems that it is a premium feature.

The premium stuff is like to cook your own. I'm sure the standard one available in the first post has it implemented.

Strangest thing.... Was on CNA, decided to try ICSSGS, didn't like it as well so flashed back and calendar was there. I assume because I did not wipe on the flash back to CNA?
FWIW, I have tried this, ICSSGS, and CM9. CNA is my favorite. I have had almost no issues. 1 app won't run, but it is from my small, local bank.

That issue is fixed on ICSSGS and maybe others, I'm not certain if it involves some adjustments ROM-side, or it should be fixed by using latest gapps. I previously encountered the issue but haven't seen it in quite some time.
The alternative would be buying them in the browser/pc.

Hi guys,
I'm interested in trying this ROM out.
I'm coming from Serendipity VII, which if I understand correctly is I9000 based. Just to make sure I understand what I'm doing, I should just be able to reboot to recovery, and install the CNA ROM from the zip file, correct? Any other steps necessary?
Thanks

I got it installed (with the Glitch kernel - running at 1.4Ghz so far), and I'm very impressed
The only issue I haven't yet been able to figure out is the external SD card. It seems that it now gets mounted under /mnt/emmc/ ? For whatever reason, the music player can't find the media that I have on the external SD card. Any ideas? I can find it using ES File Explorer and play the files individually.
Privacy
There has been an ever-increasing number of apps which want access to private information (like call logs, location, and contact information) without needing it to run the application. I'm talking about games and not apps which require such information like Anti-virus and such. Will we ever have a permission manager a la MIUI on this ROM? I understand that many developers work in concert, so I am wondering why most ROM's are not created with safeguards in place to protect private information. I am aware that I am not in the MIUI Q&A section, but I feel this is an issue that all ROM's should consider in order to protect private information. I know that I don't have to install apps which ask for this information if I don't want to give up my information, but it seems that every app nowadays asks for these permissions and it would be a shame to continue as if there were nothing wrong with compromising private information to play a game.
Thanks in advance.
I was one if the unlucky ones that had no 3g data after flashing this rom, flashed glitch, moved apn-conf.XML to the /system/etc/ directory overwriting the old file.
This did not bring data back. I decided to look at the apn list and noticed that it was blank. Clicked the menu button, then selected reset to defaults. Ten minutes later I had data.
Lock Screen
Has the lock screen been updated to allow for custom applications where it shows the icon of the custom application instead of that alien looking character? This was one of the reasons I moved away from this ROM and would love to come back. I'm not a fan of having to try to remember which application ties to which alien character.

Not yet. It still shows the animated android.
Nostalgia shows the custom icons on the ICS lock screen. (haven't flashed any other ICS roms yet.)
Update 3/24:
All aosp roms do not show custom icons.
All aokp based roms do show custom icons.
aosp also seems a little laggier than aokp. Playing angry birds space @ 1.3 ghz resulted in click and audio lag. (Gummy charged was my aosp test platform at that time).
Docs runs blazing fast at same speed with no click lag. Aokp m28 clocked at 800 MHz / glitch runs smooth. I think this is because of the scrolling cache which I force disabled in from control.
Thanks for your work bringing ics to captivate.
Any way to disable the proximity sensor in this rom? The thing is the cappy i purchased came with that sensor dead.. This makes the phone freeze while making calls for example.. I'm using right now MIUI 2.3.2 Gingerbread 2.3.7 and I can disable it with almost no effort at all..

Sorry but I don't really see how the rotation would be related to the proximity sensor functionalities. I could try that, but I would be more than grateful if you could explain me a little further the relationship between those two.. Anyways I have to download the rom, nandroid backup, and flash everything to test it out.
Thanks for the reply

you are correct, the proximity sensor does not control rotation. a bit a of a flub on my part sorry.
here are some things I tried with my AOKP rom (don't think the AOSP - CNA is too much different?)
1) There is no setting in the call menu for the proximity sensor.
2) However if you cover your sensor (which is broken anyways right?) a dab of black nail polish, to block all the light from it. I covered my sensor with my thumb and the screen stayed on. However if the problem is deeper within your hardware (possibly the control IC for the sensor), it will still lock up when it tries to access the current state of the sensor.
3) It's possible from what I've found that your sensor is okay, and that there is an internal blockage to the sensor cover. (though, my phone didn't lock up with the sensor covered?). Try canned air/ Vacuum to clear the blockage?
4) There are a several application options as none of the ICS roms I've used appear to have that MIUI option.

Hi,
I would post this in the Nyx thread but I'm new so I'm not alowed
Anyway, I was installing nyx rc5.0 yesterday coming from CM7.2.
Installation went smooth!!! really impressive but there are 2 issues I wonder is someone can clear:
1) Camera - I was quite surprised to see there is no scene mode in the camera and almost no settings. Is this a problem in flashing or just the way it is?
I was sure it's supported as its not mentioned anymore in the Release notes.
(Just "Camera works")
2) Backup&Restore - I couldn't restore my Wifi Passwords, etc. from the google servers. The option of backup my account is grayed out and also written "Backing up to debug-only private cache". It is a known issue?
Thanks,

Thanks. BTW, hows the Slim ICS working for you on the Samsung GT-I9000?
How's the camera app there?
Anyway, I don't use the camera so often as its not that great in this phone anyway.
The rest so far feels quite good in nyx RC5.0. Too early to mention I guess but battery consumption feels a bit high at the moment.

Hi!
I've been searhing around a bit, but couldn't find any proper soloution to fix Facebook contact sync in JB.
I've tried Facebook HaxSync with the workaround, but doesen't sync phone numbers, so the purpose of it all is kind of lost then.
I read some places that som ROMs have this feature built in? I'm currently running SlimBean 2.6, and It doesn't appear to have this feature.
The only flashable zip fix I found was for a HTC phone or something. A guy running SlimBean 2.5 on SII tried it, and it didn't work, so I guess it's not working on the note either.
So, does anyone know of a working solution for Note running Jellybean?
