Somewhat oriented towards cycling, but can be used for walking or driving, this software grabs coordinates from the built-in (or external) bluetooth device and uploads the data to a website in real time. I believe you can also view the current location real time, or the current route, or previous routes! It has a website that you register a user/pass with which also goes into the program for uploading. When you want to view your routes, you go to a slightly different place on the same server and it appears to use Google Maps to overlay the information.
It also has the option to store the data and upload it later.
I've just experimented with it a little, but so far it's quite cool. I see some other related software to this discussed around here, so figured some folks might be interested.
I have found one bug which I'm going to report.. If the data connection gets severed it seems to get confused and can't re-start tracking, then it crashed on me, but no biggie, just started it back up.
I think I'll also make a suggestion for log frequency.. Right now I think it's logging per GPS frequency (1 per second) but for slower moving transportation or for potential battery/data savings, I think it could easily be changed to higher values, such as 1 data point in 5, 10, 15s etc..

BTW, no affiliation with the author, just found the SW yesterday and think it's rather cool.

or the even better solution..

I was going to check out the TrackMe solution but it required .net 3.5 and I didn't want to get into that, as I've heard that can break other software that's written for 2.0.
The other two programs I'll check out, thanks!
Thanks for you email (i will reply to that lateron) and for this thread on the forum, I already had one here! It really was a couple of days college assignment (well the idea was mine, but we had to do something with mobile devices) which I updated so it was usable for multiple users!

Doh, I just searched the Kaiser subforum.
Couple days? Nice! I'd love to see what happens with a couple more days!
First, I HAVE searched for 3G speed ups, 3G adjustments, ect. I HAVE read the WiKi until my eyes are RED without finding any solution to my problen.
Using AT&T Tilt, 6.0 Stock Rom/Radio
Rom:1.62.00.00
Radio:1.27.14.09
Prot:22.45.88.07H
My 3G down speed is 141k with .49 sec latency. This sinks!
Things that I have tried:
Larger RWIN.
Increase connections
Increased re transmits .
Three browsers PIE OPRA NetFront.
WiFi speed 1.456k .02sec.
It takes an enormous amount of time "Locating" and "Opening" a page before it begins to load.
Perhaps a different DNS server might help that but can not find any info on how to change the DNS server.
Any help would be appreciated. It is still within the 30 day AT&T return window and if it can't do better than this, it is going back.
You can probably thank all those 3G iPhones. After they hit the market my speeds plummeted too.
Have you tried other radios?
Indeed, you'll have to put up with it, be it with the Tilt or any other phone. Data network usage has increased a lot following the release of the 3G iphone, and in some places the network just can't cope.

Tell me about it! The only place I can even think about getting decent 3G signal these days is in San Francisco. Damn those iPhone users, ruining my great tethering experience!

Search helps ...........
Also,
https://www.opendns.com/smb/start/device/windows-mobile-5-pocketpc
It's a lot better here than it was immediately post-launch of the ipoon but it's still pretty bad. I get decent 3G speeds but the downloads stall which is worse than just going slowly.
Sometimes it'll download a 200-300k file to 90% almost immediately then just sit there forever. I have to cancel and restart the download a few times. Very annoying. Better than it was before still.. A few months ago there was nearly zero chance of downloading anything over 3G. Email took forever to sync, and downloading in IE/Opera was impossible.
Interesting experiment I tried though... I took a file, blah.jpg. Copied it to blah.png blah.exe blah.zip blah.lkdjfa etc... Blah.jpg, .png, .lkdsjflak etc, all downloaded pretty reliably. .zip, .exe, .rar, etc... did not. I haven't seen anyone else suggest this sort of pattern, but I found it very interesting.
I'm using OpenDNS now too w/ AT*T's 3G (H). So far it's an improvement, but still not what it used to be. Still stuck between 600 - 1020 kbit/sec w/ .302s latency. I used to be around 1300 religiously.
Thanks for your replies. I did some testing and here is what I have found. I ran a series of 10 tests in each situation and tossed out the high and low and averaged the rest.
First, changed the DNS server and that made quite a difference in the "Location" time but of course did nothing for the down speed.
Second, with DSLreports Mobile speed test using 1 MB block, I found that PIE was twice as fast as the NetFront browser that I was using. The same was true loading large pages such as CNN.com. Darn, I really liked NetFront. I will have to try some other browsers.
Third, I found that using software and header compression made no difference.
Speeds last night around 1am were avg around 145k, today at 12pm the are avg around 700k with PIE and 325k with NetFront, go figure.
What is the WINS address and would it help to change it?
Can I change to a better access point? [mine is wap.singular]
I just got my TD2 yesterday. Been trying to figure out the settings for the push internet, but i can't seem to find the option to use WiFi connection instead of data connection.
Also i realised that the scheduling doesnt allow to set the minute only the hour.
Does anyone have this problem?
No one has any problem using this feature?
If you have WiFi on it should just use it I guess? Otherwise what you can do is setup your preferred connection not to be the mobile web one so it doesn't try and connect to the net over GPRS/3G.
I tried using Wifi, but it doesnt work. I still need to manually pull the sites.
When your phone goes into standby the WIFI connection turns off to save the battery, so unless you have your phone set to never turn off and keep WIFI active all the time its unlikely that it will use WIFI to push internet pages to you. Very little point doing it that way since you'd never have the phone last long enough to get out of the house in the morning.
Oh I reckon I know what might be wrong. You also need to change the schedules of when the phone polls for sites. You do it by day and stuff and do a start time. Once you visit each site once then that'll start the ticker so to speak. Mine autodownloaded at the set intervals after that.
Thanks Shuflie, u have a good point.. there is no point updating it via wifi. It needs to use a data connection. Thanks
DaBountyHunter: Thanks for the advice.. but i really think the problem is that i dont have a data plan with my telco.. i cant rely on WIFI since it disables whenever the phone goes into standby.
hi,
i'm a little bit confused about this feature!
i addet 4 sites to my list and if i got it right, there is a grey arrow if its updating and a green if its finished! is that correct?
but, when i surf on a site with a green arrow i can only see the main page, because if i tip any link on this it says error!
thats a total mess, the deep of min one link is essential...
do i something wrong or is this feature only a dream!??
I believe it only updates the pages on the main page. It doesnt save the entire site (i wished it did) cos it seems rather redundant when it only saves the main page.
hopefully someone can make a fix that it also loads the linked pages but i think it takes up too much memory/battery life and for example on news sites you only need the headlines, and if you want to read the article you'll have to wait a bit.
(for the Dutch, use tweakers.net/nieuws on your phone, it loads the articles instead of headlines)
well then in my opinion this feature is senseless!
quite true.. senseless.. might as well just use RSS feeds.
I still haven't received my TD2 (seems like it takes time for other languages as I'm looking for a french one which should be shipped on the 8th of May) but I still have a question regarding push internet feature.
What happens when roaming? Is there a way to disable it while on another network? Like a "disable while roaming" feature? Knowing the fees for data roaming, I don't want to spend money every time I'm going in another country...
yes, there is a 'disable when roaming' feature.

i tried that, also tried many other things but i am almost defintely sure the 'add push page' is simply a bookmark button. the main conclusion for this is that i dont get any notification of the 'auto pull' and it still attempts to connect to HSDPA when opening one of these push pages
I stopped using it because it only updates the top page.

At various points my Focus S seems to lose the ability to use it's data connection- either Wifi or 3G. I can't work out why- has anyone else experienced this? Web pages don't load, etc.
I installed a patch that allowed me to use Internet Sharing, I'm concerned this might have been the cause of it...
I've found that if I do not reboot my phone at least once a day I get random problems like that.

I don't reboot my phone all that often. I've never seen it lose ALL data connection capability tho...
A regular power cycle doesn't hurt tho...
Can this be the issue?
I'm experiencing the same thing, but mainly when I'm connected to 3G. My phone shows it has full bars and 3G or 4G availability but I find 60% of the time my phone has little to no data going to my phone, so none of my apps or news feeds get updated or they get updated slowly. When I'm on wifi the phone works flawlessly.
I read this article,
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/hack-fixes-mms-on-unlocked-samsung-wp7-handsets
One of the odder quirks of Windows Phone 7 to appear since the platform's launch has been the absence of Automatic Data Configuration for users who swap SIM chips and network-hop with their unlocked handsets.
ADC should let the phone communicate with the network it's connected to in order to retrieve all the settings it needs in order to use the network's services. Samsung defended disabling ADC by saying that its phones are intended to only be used with a specific carrier
Now I know this is talking about MMS, but does anyone think it's related to 3G connectivity from a different service provider?
i am having the same problem, it started 2 days ago after i unlocked my phone, at&t gave me the unlock code, i had to enable hot spot & de brand by loading a file, i don't have problem with WiFi just 4G, it will be fixed if i re start the phone.
problem for me with wifi+3G
Not sure if this is the same as the OP. I run with both WiFi and 3G enabled most of the time. Basically everything will be working fine for a while, then I'll try to open a web page from Twitter and it will time out. Sometimes retrying will work, but it will take an abnormally long time to load the page. Other times it never works, and when I go to another app (e.g. mail) and try to sync, and that will also time out. When that happens I usually turn off either WiFi or 3G, then toggle the state of the one I left on (e.g. turn 3G off, then back on), and it clears up. I've never needed to reboot the phone. I don't have ICS enabled, but my phone is fully unlocked.
I've guessed this problem was caused by a lost or bad connection on one of the wireless protocols (like WiFi), where the phone thinks it is connected to WiFi and won't switch over to the other protocol (3G).
One more thing: I'm running 8107 and I don't remember this issue occurring before the upgrade.

I have the EXACT same issue as you state here. The problem has existed since day one with this phone. I updated through to 8107 and the issues still exist.
So now for some interesting/good news... my dad works for a large company that has direct access to AT&T Wireless Engineers, so he got in contact with an an engineer and explained this issue as both him and I experience the same issues. The engineer was able to get a hold of a Samsung Focus S and experienced the same problems for himself. He then escalated the issue directly to Samsung who in-turn escalated this to Microsoft. Apparently Microsoft claimed the issue was theirs and they are now working on an update to rectify the problem. Samsung also apparently has some updates that they were going to push but have since held off on pushing them until Microsoft has the fix for this data issue fixed.
I've been so frustrated by these issues and the lack of information regarding them that I thought you might be interested in knowing that Samsung, Microsoft, and AT&T ARE working to get the problem resolved.
Wow! This is really great news as I am having the exact same problem. I usually just on and back off Airplane mode and that fixes it, but its a real hassle. So, the word is that Samsung is, possibly, combining all the current issues like this data, the extra settings/quirky display, and the 8107/disappearing keyboard all in to one?
matt
The AT&T engineer didn't say what was going to be included in the Samsung update, just that Samsung was holding off on releasing the update until after Microsoft supplied a fix for the data issues. Hopefully Samsung's update fixes all of the Focus S quirks (data issues, delayed keyboard sounds, quirky display/auto brightness) in one shot.
Thanks for posting this, i feel better that Microsoft & Samsung are working on fixing this issue.
Any updates/news about this specific issue? I have the exact issue with my Focus S since I got my phone
I too have been having this issue and still haven't found a solution. I hope Samsung and Microsoft come up with a solution soon because it is very irritating.

Am I mistaken...but the majority of people posting in this thread, have the problem after installing something non standard?
8107 is not released by Samsung/AT&T, so the possibility that an associated file is not included, does exist.
Was the hotspot patch and official release, or was it intended for sideload or something?
I'm just curious. I had the luxary to have my Dell Venue Pro sent to Microsoft and examined by the Test and OEM team for WP. This was several months ago. They were able to determine I had used the force update trick to update my Device. From pieces of various emails, I was able determine the update included multiple files. The multiple files consisted of Device specific instructions and additional files needed for the that operator, in addition to the Update provided by MS.
If this is the case, forcing an update into place may indeed load the update, but it might not include other needed files.
Now, I'm not an expert, a dev or anything else important. I cannot validate that what I said is true. But, i do have the benefit of having my older device looked at by MS several months ago. This does not prove 2+2=4. But it does raise enough doubt in my mind that I won't be foruce updating my devices until alot more people get a look at this methodology and perhaps come up with some answers, or at least explanations.
Does the internet connection issue appear only after the forced 8107 update?
I had been using a Chevron-unlocked Samsung Focus S on the 7720 and had experienced no issues. Just updated to 8107 following Heathcliff74's method so I hope this issue doesn't start to plague me.
Also, has anyone had success with voluptuary's wifi internet connection sharing and interop-unlock method? I am hesitant to apply that hack exactly because of worries about issues with internet...
I'm a big chicken. I am just going to wait for AT&T to release the update. I just have this funny feeling that there's a little something extra included with the at&t update. I've done plenty of customizing over the years, but just have a feeling about this. I do wish they would step on it, though.

when I said extra, I meant a focus s specific file that might act as a customization or configuration file. I don't think a block file of any sort might be included. But I do know that at&t is proprietary enough to want a unique identifier of some sort. In Gen 1, at&t had special builds just for them, turning on or off features. I know the hd7 had a specific 'config' type file, as did the venue pro. Would I call these extra files? No. I would call them required files. Build 8107 was a single build for WP. Do you think that all phones with mango had the same needs, samex files, same configs? Or is it possible that a related file acted as a config or control.
I'm not smart enough to know for sure. My gut says...maybe. .

Hey guys, so this has bugged me since the Galaxy s3. I use the note 4 now. I used the Gmail app and most of the time the email is delayed 1-2 mins. Sometimes it can be for 30 mins. Hangouts/ Google voice message is always slower than on my Pc. This is one thing that the iPhone does much better. I used to use the iPhone 6 plus and it's email/hangouts/Google voice messages are instant and faster than my Pc. Anyone experience this? Any fix? Thanks.
P/s: I did check auto sync and notification for every category. The issue is not my wifi because the iPhone is also on this wifi.
I doubt you gonna get a fix. We all experience this.

God this may be a deal breaker for some people especially who works with emails a lot. The iPhone does an incredible job on push service. I bought the note 4 hoping this issue gets fixed...
I don't have an issue with push services, but the applications themselves have been a bit glitch lately. Think it had to do with them being first material theme design releases. Hoping the next releases are smoother.

Same thing here. I'm coming from a M7 and I'm noticing a delay in receiving pushed notifications...
Worst thing is the delay is pretty random. Sometimes it can be 1-2 mins. Other time its 5 mins. I notice at night its significantly delayed up to over 30 mins...
I've searched google and surprised not a lot complaints about this. Google voice message on android is much less useful than on iPhone since the messages are a bit delayed ;(((
I've found the reason. It is indeed my WiFi. When I switch to LTE, email is instant ,even faster than my PC, just like the iPhone. I guess its time to get a new router or some settings need adjusting

Does it happen only on your wifi? Did you try it on another network? I doubt to be your router... It happens to me as well regardless of the wifi network that I'm connected to.
Does the note has any wifi optimization feature as HTC does? Something to minimize battery usage when wifi is on?

I can confirm that on LTE, the email is instant and even faster than my PC,just like the same speed I got on the iPhone. I've been using only LTE for 2 days and this makes me happy since it was almost a deal breaker to me.
However on WiFi its delayed, at least at my home and my school. I experienced delay on school WiFi too. The phone has no issue with wifi, however. There's no drop signal or anything. I don't know why push service is delayed on WiFi. I hope there's a hidden wifi setting somewhere....
Nexus 4 had this problem. I don't think it was ever resolved.

Wow that would suck. If it works on your PC fine then your network is OK. Some settings on your phone are not set right. Post screen shots of your WiFi settings and advanced settings. This will help someone figure it out. Also what router and ISP do you have

I searched around and found out this is actually a common issue of Android. (searched "delayed notification android"). This can be fixed with an app (need root tho). I switched to unlimited data so I don't use wifi much on my phone any more
