After rooting with OCR will I need to do anything else other then get a file explorer to enable me to remove useless apps like Co-Pilot trial (even though I have the full version) from the system apps folder?
nope thats all you need, ROOTING your phone is just like running your PC as administrator. it gives you that bit of extra control over the phone.
a good file explorer for rooted phones is 'root explorer' its free in the market
Thank you. BTW root explorer is showing as £2.50 in the market. Is there another one as good but free?

HI everyone,
I been searching and there is some threads but I still cant decide on this.
I'm basically looking for the best and most reliable app that i can use to lock and hide away my secrets (files folders pictures video etc)
I'm willing to pay up to $5 for it. And if its free and good I will still pay for the full version as long as it doesn't let me down.
Thanks in advance
Try Vaulty in the market. There is a free and donate version of this and so far, it doesn't let me down. It even hides your files from the file manager (it moves the files to it own sub dir i think).
thanks for that info... vaulty is great except the icon is so catchy... as soon as u see it (girls) they just wanna open it OMG love heart what is it lol
Check out RR File Locker. Similar to Vaulty, but encrypts your private files also, so even with root access, the files are inaccessible without your password.
I'm pretty new to the Android world, and I have a few questions.
Whenever I "KILL" an app, it says that it's gone. However, when I launch the task manager up again, the apps are running again. How can I make it so programs like, "IM" or "MOTOPRINT" just never launch at all?
And, I rooted my Droid 4 and got another app named Superuser. What does this do?

The apps you are referring to are system apps. Although Android kills them, Motorola has registered them as services so that they will restart automatically. Freeze IM to make it stay killed (it will essentially uninstall it) but I recommend leaving Motoprint because it is darn useful!
The app named "superuser" is essentially a graphical frontend to the super user permission manager. As you grant or deny applications root or "administrative" access, they will show up in the superuser app so that you can either change that setting or review which apps you have granted or denied system access.

Relating to freezing apps, the only program I've came around to do this is Titanium Backup Pro. However, it requires you to pay, are there any free ones out there that will allow me to freeze apps? Thankyou.
AntTek App Manager works great for me. AntTek also has what appears to be a pretty decent root file explorer.

This might even be fixable via OTA software as far as I know, but is there a method available to reduce the amount of apps you must choose in order to share something on your device? Its just annoying when you don't even use 2/3 of the apps for sharing, most of which aren't used at all. I know I can delete the bloatware and it will reduce some.....
Attached a screenshot in case clarification is needed. Even if you are sharing a widely know method and want to toss in a smart comment, I deserve it if a fix exists and I am missing it. TIA
very simple, apps that you dont use, get rid of them. or go into the main settings, choose apps, now disable the system apps that you dont use. or, if you have root, delete those apps that you dont use.

There are some obvious apps I know I can delete without system harm. I guess I can pretty easily search for what is 'safe' to delete, such as below.....
Apps I don't use:
Messenger (I use Messaging for SMS/MMS)
Bluetooth
Hangouts
Google+ (I'm sure I can delete)
Photos (Picasa/Google)
Kindle (I'm sure I can delete)
AT&T Locker
But here is the real twist........
Apps I use but would never send via:
Audio Manager
Tapatalk
Convert to PDF
Android Beam
AirDroid
ES File Explorer 'Send by LAN'
ES File Explorer 'Save to'
In a word, no.
Hi All,
I haven't had much luck with the questions I've asked, it's a shame these forums aren't more active but I'll try my luck again (and thanks in advance to all those who read).
A lot of us newbies who want to debloat our phones are unsure what apks to delete and what needs to stay. I've found various lists of apks that others have deleted, but with no indication of what they are exactly are. Some are obvious but others are not.
I, for instance, can't figure out which apk produces Video Unlimited, Smart Connect or Xperia Care Support from looking in system/app with the root browser. Is this even the only place I'd need to delete each apk from to remove it? But I digress.
So there surely must be a way to read each package and view or extract the user-friendly name that appears to the user in the Apps list or in the home screen. Can anyone tell me what it is? I would be very happy to go through each apk and list it out for people to then use as a reference, and we'd have one more resource for newbies to draw on, instead of us just deleting them blindly and/or at random.
Cheers as always,
schnidex
Use ES File Explorer and check the "App" menu. You will be able to see the apps by its user-friendly name, and clicking on each one you will see its package name.
- Install ES File Explorer from the Play Store (it's free)
- Press the hamburger menu (located up-left -> Library -> App)
- You will see user apps, then you can click on the menu and check system apps or all apps installed.
If you are rooted, you may uninstall system apps from there (long press, uninstall located down-left).

¡MUCHISIMAS GRACIAS, MI AMIGO!
:good:
The problem is not in knowing which APK belongs to which app (and sometimes one APK is several apps at once - like Google+, and you need to know it, and sometimes you don't see an app at all for the APK, like for most system APKs). The problem is knowing what the app actually does, which parts of the system rely on it being present, and how well will these parts behave if the app is removed (vs disabled, which is a normal way to deal with unwanted apps). And this is where "debloating" can do more harm than good.

True in many ways, but my primary concern was removing the apps that appear in the app drawer. This seems to handle that perfectly.
Hello ... I just installed this below on my hp touch tablet and it pretty much comes with hardly any apps which is what I like but I'm curious if anyone can recommend a good app for locating data within the internal drive, there no file or anything to find things, thanks

"ES FIle Explorer" is what you want. Search for it on the Google Play Store.

I gave it a try but I didn't like how spammy it is and its also loaded with other stuff which I didn't care for . At the moment I'm trying File Manager, its pretty simple without all those bells and whistles which I like, thanks

I use ROM Toolbox Pro. Has a number of useful tools including Root Browser (explorer) which allows you to see and manage (ie delete) files. I bought the "Pro" version years ago and since have forgotten the price on Play Store but seemed well worth it. I know they have a "Lite" version for free that probably has ads. They also break the individual apps out, including the Root Browser (I believe for free) if you don't want the other apps in the toolbox, but having a terminal emulator, ROM installer, boot animation tool, and others seems useful.
Other file manager apps include Solid Explorer, Astro File Manager, and Amaze File Manager to name a few. I know lots of people switch from ES File to Solid Explorer after ES went spammy. I tried Amaze File Manager... it has a pretty and user friendly user interface, but I always had success with ROM Toolbox Pro so I always go back to it.
