No matter which android phone i use my gallery always shows a dropbox folder with some photos on it. I want to remove it but i can't seem to find a way how. I logged in to my dropbox account and checked out my folders, i have nothing in there. Kinda frustrating. Any ideas?
Insert a text file named ".nomedia" in the dropbox folder
That's the thing, i don't have a dropbox folder on my phone.

New version of dropbox stores data on external SD, if u have one. Check for the folder named dropbox on ur external sd.
I too have this problem, but I never knowingly did anything with dropbox
I use sugarsync for that functionality
Something I did in the past (I install and uninstall a lot of apps to test them) must have created the single picture in my folde called dropbox.
The dropbox folder seems to be related to Picasa (it has a small picasa logo bottom left)
I cannot find the image folder or anything on my device or sd card and I can't delete it - even deleting the cace and rebooting it rediscovers the file
and it turns out it was a picasa web album associated with my google account
So I could delete in picasa hooray
how do I remove pics from my dropbox folder on my samsung phone?

Hello all,
I searched and did not find exactly what I need.
What is happening it when through A/S I sync a "Files" folder it syncs only to the /My Documents on the device. I have edited the My documents path with Advance Config to /Storage Card/My Documents, bu still A/S syncs to the root my docs even if I delete the folder on the device it just recreates it.
So currently I just use a file browser to copy data over, but it sure would be nice to have the Phone my docs folder on the PC sync to the My docs on my card only.
Can this be done?
I use an application called Mobsync. It can sync folders anywhere on the device including storage cards. The latest version is trialware but if you search around you can find the older freeware version which I believe is .92.
It works and gets the job done.
TitaniumBackup app seems to be Dropbox aware in that it has a button to 'Sync to Dropbox now!' But I am having a terrible time making them work together.
I had a TitaniumBackup folder in the phone from when made before flashing Cog 4.3. I just did another TitaniumBackup to capture all the apps I have added and commanded the 'Sync to Dropbox now!', but I cannot decipher exactly what it did, and where things are stored.
Now,
-my online Dropbox TitaniumBackup folder has some files dated when first backup was made and some from just now.
-same when the Dropbox app is opened on the phone. The TitaniumBackup folder is in the app along with Contacts, Photos, and Public folders.
-same with Dropbox folder on the PC
(I deleted this folder because of the mixed 'versions' of files in it--believing that that deletion would propagate to the phone and to the online store. It didn't. They are still there)
-when I use Root Explorer and look for these files, there is a TitaniumBackup folder in /sdcard/dropbox, and Public is also there, but not Contacts and Photos folders!!! (Why not? they show inside the dropbox app.) This folder also has the mixed dates on the files inside it.
So, I guess my original backup has been destroyed by most of the files being being overwritten (but I do have a copy I saved on an external drive off the home PC).
I just now do not have a feel at all for where the files are created, and where they are copied to if you use the standard "process" ...
When you run TitaniumBackup, where does it put the folder it makes?
When you tell TitaniumBackup to 'Sync to Dropbox now!', what folder (location) does it sync from and to where?
Finally, if you have Dropbox on phone, PC, and the online account, are changes in any of the three locations propagated and to where--the other two? To online only? I ask because the folder deletion on the PC did not get propagated anywhere.
Finally, am I to conclude that your current TitaniumBackup folder should be deleted before you run TitaniumBackup again?
1. when you run a backup the backups are stored in a folder called /sdcard/titaniumbackup
2. syncing to dropbox will only UPLOAD to your dropbox, and not replicate changes BACK to your phone
3. changes all populate through all devices, what you see in /sdcard/dropbox/ are files that you have accessed from your phone and are a local copy, not necessarily a folder that is also replicating to dropbox (from my understanding of using it. i have 30% of 5gb eaten up in dropbox and that folder only contains items that i have opened/uploaded on my phone)
4. NO! you do not need to delete the titaniumbackup folder located in /sdcard/ you can keep appending to it with your sub sequential backups. you just need to understand how to do the batch backups and how to clear out old items that you no longer want in your backup folder (this can be done within the titanium backup app)

Thanks; that helps a lot.
On 4, though, I probably want my backups to contain "what the phone looks like right now.' So, I will normally just want to do all apps + data. That is what I did this time, and it seemed to merge the two rather than replace it. That's why I concluded I needed to delete the old backup off the phone, after saving a copy of it somewhere. That brought up the uncertainty then of how the Dropbox synced copies would react.
Wait, wait, wait! I don't understand this...
I downloaded a zip I want to flash to my PC.
I put it into Dropbox folder on PC.
I went into Dropbox app on the phone, the file showed there, press it and it downloads. So far, all is great.
I start ROM Manager to move the file from Dropbox to /sdcard so I can reboot to CWM and flash it.
The zip is not in /sdcard/dropbox !!! But it SHOWS when I open the Dropbox app. What the?
Where is the downloaded zip in the file structure so I can move it to /sdcard?
And arghhhh. Why is this always so hard.
Wtf?
Plug in the phone to your computer and copy the file you want.
You're doing it wrong
Sent from my atrix
Use Dropbox for file syncing, not flashing
I use Dropbox to keep a copy of my backup (created by TiBu). I agree that copying the rom file directly to your computer is far easier than introducing Dropbox.
OK, y'all do it a different way. Mine is wrong because it is different from how you do it. Thanks.
That would still leave my question unanswered...where did Dropbox store the file...why was it not in /sdcard/dropbox?
But later I found it; for some reason, some of dropbox files are where I expected, but THAT download was stored in /external_sd/dropbox for some reason. It is unclear how Dropbox chooses where to put stuff it syncs down.
So I was able to move the file to /sdcard and flash it easily.
Hi, I’m having a problem with the HTC Notes App on my Rogers HTC One. I have backed up a copy of the folder ".data\HtcNotes" on the SD card, thinking that this folder contains all my notes files. I then wiped my phone and started setup as a new phone. I tried restoring my backed up notes by replacing the folder ".data\HtcNotes" with the one I had backed up earlier but the Notes App does not recognize the restored files. the Notes App works fine, i.e I can create new notes without any problems.
Also, when I try to open the "contentE.html" stored for each note inside subfolders of ".data\HtcNotes", I get unreadable characters. This happens for my new and properly functioning notes as well. Does the Notes App store content in a non-standard html format?. It used to be that the Notes app stored the content in a file called "content.html" which was a normally readable html format, but now it stores in the non-readable " "contentE.html" file.
Please advise how to recover the content of my notes...is there a way I can open the "contentE.html" files in a readable format?. My notes are not synched to the clouds and are stored only locally on the phone.
Thanks
any suggestions?

you may have to reset the permissions of the files
you do this with ES File Explorer and highlight a file go to properties and set the permissions ... usually to rw-r-r but notes files may be different check one you just created and make the old ones the same
thanks for the suggestion, I am able to open the "contentE.html" of my old notes using an html editor or browser, but the file contains unreadable characters, as if I'm opening a binary file inside a text editor. The same thing happens for any new notes I create.
I remember in earlier versions of Android, the Notes app used to store the content in a file called "content.html" which was a normally readable html format, but now it stores it in a "contentE.html" file which is not readable by html editors...
attached is an example of the "contentE.html" file from a new note I've just created, it's supposed to be titled "w1" and contain only the word hello...if you try to open it you'll understand what I'm trying to describe...can you guys please check the "contentE.html" on your phone and let me know if you're able to open the file properly outside the Notes app...thanks...
guys need your help...can anyone please check the "contentE.html" located in numeric subfolders under ".data\HtcNotes" on the SD card and let me know if you're able to open the file properly outside the Notes app...thanks...
bump
i use colornote app, its free in playstore, you can sync with gmail,.. if you use another android phone just install same app, and your note will there to
BUMP!!
Having the same problem, did a factory reset of my phone and the files arer physically still intact, but I can't open them with Evernote app or HTC Notes app. Alle notes are stored in a folder with a .PNG and a .HTML file, the HTML file contains unreadable text. There's very important info in for me, which I need within a week. Can someone please help? I'm willing to do almost anything to be able to read my files...

Try this, create a new note in the HTC Notes app and save it (If it doesn't save, just write random words and exit, it should save then), then go to your .data/HtcNotes folder, find the folder that contains the note you just created. There should be an existing "ContentE.html" file. Delete it and replace it with the file you want to restore.

I think you're wasting your time, just having the ContentIE.hml file won't be enough, the actual database is stored in /data/data/com.htc.notes (i think), and without that, the app can't link to the contents of the sdcard.

My data folder is indeed empty. However, can't it just be enough to have the raw files from the .data/htcnotes/ folder? I have those, every note exists of a folder with a PNG and a HTML file. They're just not recognised by the Notes App.

Yes, but unless i'm mistaken, the Notes app will rely on the database file, which in turn would link to the contents on the sdcard... so even if the contents weren't on the sdcard they would still show up in the notes app, but not vice versa.
And I don't know of any way to reconstruct the database file.... maybe try searching for that.

Nobody found a way yet? right?
If you have a backup of your data (or data partition), you need to restore the contents of /data/data/com.htc.provider.notes (as well as com.htc.notes, i think) and set the file permissions by ES file explorer or sth. This is tested and works (I got this answer off google somewhere else, but since this xda thread is the first result that comes up for searches like "recover htc notes", I (necro-)posted the solution here).
Now comes the hard part: If you don't have backup of com.htc.provider.notes, here's how I suggest you hack it BUT I haven't tested: try adding a new note in an empty instance of the notes app. The file /data/data/com.htc.provider.notes/databases/notes.db will be an SQLite file. Open it with any SQLite editor on your computer and you see IDs and file names in its tables match with the created note in your /sdcard/.data/HtcNotes folder. See if you can modify the notes.db database by adding new rows in all related tables to make the app recognize your old HtcNotes files. Don't forget to change file permissions of notes.db after restoring it to your device (I gave rwx-rwx-rwx to everything I copied). If you're lucky and knowledgeable enough you might be able to fix it.
Lesson to learn: Sync, or use plain-text file next time for writing notes.

I have a HTC Sensation and I used the HTC Notes app often and so does my girlfriend on her Sensation. I recently changed ROMS on both our phones and have been trying to figure out how the hell to restore our notes. You indeed need to edit that notes.db as you mentioned. I know you didn't test it, but I just tried your suggestion and it did work on my first try. :victory: Here's what I did:
1) I opened the HTC Notes app and created a new note and named it Blah and saved it.
2) I used ES File Explorer to navigate to /data/data/com.htc.provider.notes. Then I copied the notes.db file to my microsd card.
3) I used DB Browser for SQLite to open the notes.db files that I copied to the card. Then clicked on the tab that says Browse Data, then in the drop down menu where it lets you pick a table, I choose notes. There you can see what notes the HTC Notes app will recognize.
4) The note I created earlier called Blah was on row 2, so I clicked on New Record and carefully made a new entry in row 3 with the same format as row 2. Just VERY carefully edit the columns that say: notebook_id, name, data, saved_time, last_modified_time, saving_time, ap_extra_info, thumdnail_path, widget_screenshot_path, and HTC_CREATED.
5) Verify the info you entered is correct fore ach column, then write changes to the database (File menu, Write Changes.)
6) I copied my now modified notes.db from my sdcard back to /data/data/com.htc.provider.notes ES File Explorer, changed the permissions of the file to match notes.db-journal,
7) And finally, I restarted the HTC Notes app, and the new note I added to the database was recognized.
I can think of a shorter way of doing this, but I''ll have to test it first. :fingers-crossed: Why did HTC have to complicate this? Why can't the app just read the files that are in the same folder or provide a refresh option to read any new files that may have been added to .data\HtcNotes at the very least?
So i had to get my N6 replaced becasue the top speaker was all wacked out, so i got the new one and hope someone can help me (i know there will be ) first i'm trying to copy the titanium backup files, i keep getting an error on certain files saying "cannot copy, device has stopped responding or has been disconnected" when clearly neither of those things have happened. I am on stock rooted & unencrypted. I tried searching but found no answer to this..
Just created an update.zip but when i look on the computer, i cannot see the file..
how are you trying to copy the backup files?
I usually copy it to an online storage (dropbox/box etc). Make sure you download and restore it to your new phone before wiping/returning your old phone.
I'll try dropbox, what i did was had it create an update.zip which contains apps+data so i could flash it in recovery on the new phone. I can see the file with root explorer on the sdcard, but when i plug it in to the computer i don't see the file..
I'm trying to drag the tibu folder to dropbox and it won't do anything...

Are read/write permissions set on the file/directory?
Try moving it to your phones "Downloads" directory and see if it shows on your computer? Enable "view hidden file types".
rwxrwx-- the only part not checked is where it says others..
Edit: I tried checking the boxes next to others and it said permissions could not be changed..

Hey! Is there a way to change the default location of the screenshot? I can't use Google photos properly like this, it keeps on sync my screenshot folder.
Tnx.
Screenshot location can vary. For me it's Pictures/Screenshots. I can (and have) disallowed Google Photos from syncing that folder. Where do your screenshots go?
It's going to DCIM/screenshot.
And Google automatically backup this entire folder so, it's a problem for me.

Make a file called .nomedia in the Screenshot folder and sync will ignore it. It will also mean it won't show up in gallery apps.

A file, not a folder. Inside the screenshots folder make a file called .nomedia.
It's a built in method in Android to exclude folder contents from certain apps.

Yeah had to download a new file manager to craft a file, but unfortunately the Google photos is still showing and backup my screenshot, even tho the gallery isn't showing them.

Works fine for me. I made a new folder in DCIM, created the .nomedia file, then copy/pasted in some random pics. Google Photos doesn't see the folder at all.

Sad to say, but I solved it using "Auto File transfer Lite" (Search at google play)
It's not the best solution, but at least is an acceptable workaround IMHO.
Just hope some day Google allows to select DCIM subfolders to sync or Xiaomi to change screenshot folder destination.
Screenshots not showing in gallery
I faced an issue of , screenshots not saving in screenshot folder.but after deleting ' .nomedia ' file from the file manager i could now see the screenshots in my gallery
