Hi Gang
I have a few questions about the dell streak car dock.
1) I've heard quite a few horror stories about the suction pad not sticking and the streak shaking around like crazy. Have any of you used it and what are your opinions?
2) Will the dock still work with gel case on the streak?
Many thanks in advance

My mount sticks very well, but I don't use it on the windshield.
Yes it does shake some, but not excessively.
The phone with an Impact or TPU case will fit, but it's not designed to. The fit is very tight and you will not be removing your phone from the bracket easily. I use an Otterbox Defender case and just leave the back piece with the clip attached to my car mount. Here are some pics of the mount with the TPU and Impact cases.
Here are some alternatives if you need an alternate or spare stalk:
Rocketfish mount at Best Buy
Bracketron Mount

The part of the Rocketfish mount that holds the phone is junk IMO. I only bought it to get an extra stalk as a spare. If you search there are other threads on car mounts and what people have found effective.
The phone will fit in the Rocketfish mount with any of the Otterbox cases on. You have to put it in so that the long sides are clamped by the mount and that means it is pressing on the buttons.
Edit: Here are some custom car mounts.
official mount
when i first mounted mines on windshield it fell off pretty fast but then i notice user error the latch for the suction cup actually clicks twice and its been mounted for a month and a half now and hasn't fall since mount my phone with commuter case (tight fit) but still slides in and just pop it forward out of the grip and go
i never use the suction type.....it will fall at some point.....i use the bracketron with the clips going into my air vents.........had this for 2 years with my phone and gps never falls off
bracketron is alittle flimsey made though....but atleast you never have to worry about it falling off...lol....i will only mount to something like vent or that bolting bracket through seat belt(that doesnt work good for gps though,so i guess the vent is best so far)
kinda like this

I have the Dell Dock, it's not worth buying, imo. I expected for what they're charging a dock that the phone clicks into, like Garmin's mounts, instead, like others said, you have to slide it in, and then pluging the power cord. That's not the worst part though, it's actually trying to use it while it's shaking all over the place that's makes it useless. It probably depends on the vehicle you're using it in, but in anything with a firm or sporty suspension, it's going to shake bobblehead doll, something my garmin doesn't do.

just about to buy the streak and want to know if anyone has found a decent holder which can fasten to a belt ... dont wanna but the streak in a pocket due to issues which users have had with the screen cracking and want something which i can walk around with and have the phone on my belt like normal ...
any ideas ????
I went to target and bought a nintendo DS zippered case. I ripped out the plastic DS holder from the inside and glued the zipper closed about an inch down the long side so it only opens across the top.
I hook the caribeener to a belt clip. it is about the perfect size. It slips in easily and has a fair amount of padding for bump-proofing it.. Can't beat it for $10.00.

Below are some pics showing where I glued the zipper closed to make it into a slip pouch and how it fits using the poly case from Dell

so you have the case just flapping about on your waist?
easecases on ebay are your best bet on a quality case at this point

It doesn't flap badly. When I get the chance, I'm going to sew a loop for another caribeener on the other side so it rides more even. I also get nervous for it while riding my harley around and a second hook is cheap and easy security.
Got this one from ebay, its fraying a bit around the edges and worryingly the screen rests against the magnets or if you flip the streak over the screen is against the metal belt hook, although i've used it daily for around 6 weeks with no damage done.

I'll second that Easecase suggestion... Don't let that 'made-to-order from china' tag drive you away, mine is pretty high quality stuff. Word of warning though: if you are ordering a vertical slip case, I would suggest requesting a slightly looser fit. Even though it fits perfectly, the large flat surface area of the Streak adds to the resistance involved in inserting/removing the phone (though I suspect the problems with mine will fade as I break the case in).
I will vote for the ease case from ebay also. They may be made in china but the fit and quality are great. They are easy to work with also.

+1 with gilrad, the only downside was that it takes about a month for it to arrive which wasn't so great for me cos I also requested for the case to be slightly bigger but they didn't actually make one slightly bigger so I have to wait another month for them to send me it...though they were kind enough to let me keep the one they sent. At first, I couldn't even fit my phone in (especially with an invisible shield on, but I've managed to stretch it slightly but it's still tough to slight in and out.

This is the one i made
I got the £3,99 flipcase from RebelSIMCard.
It has a belt clip with a lock so the case cannot slip from the belt.
Quality is not super but for the price you can't go wrong!

Just ordered my easecase... I requested that they make it slightly larger - we'll see if that works out.
BTW, you guys are going to put me in the poor house! LOL! $40 here... $20 there... I keep spending money on this darn thing! LOL!
So I just got the Streak coming from an iphone. I wanted a simple belt clip you know the plastic holster that you can just snap the phone into. I couldnt find one for the dell streak anywhere including ebay. I found something on the UK ebay site and emailed them about it but never heard back. So i went to Microcenter here in Ohio to get a keyboard for my computer. They sell alot of odd stuff there and they had a row of cases for phones and other computer peripherals. I look at the phone cases and nothing even came close to fitting.
Then i happen upon cases for portable hard drives. I come across this "Inland Pro Hard Drive Enclosure Case" for 2.5" hard drive enclosures. Its made out of a mesh material (like running shoes), is a vertical pouch with elastice on the sides. The case is about 4" inches high and about 1/4 inch thick when the elastic is not stretched. It has a flap the goes from the back to front. It is covered in velcro and there is a patch of receiving velcro on the front. Importantly it has a belt loop in the back. Not as good as a clip but functional none the less.
I slip my streak in it and viola perfect fit from a width and thickness perspective. It slips in firmly yet easily. From a hight perspective the case covers the screen entirely, About the top 1/4 -1/2 of the phone is exposed. Basically the top bezel where the FCC resides. The velcro strap is long enough that it can bridge the top of the streak and latch on to the patch of velcro in the front. Its a strong enough bond that it will hold the streak in the case even when turned upside down as you can see by the attached pictures (Its the picture in front of the Computer monitor- sorry my desk is also messy).
The best part is that the case was 9.00. The web site is inlandus.com and the UPC code (i think that is what it is called i used in on SHop Savy and actually found this for 4.99) is 0 1240502200 6 . The inland stock number is 02200,
Anyone looking for a case i would recommend that you check this out.
Mike
Good to know.
I have been to this same microcenter ( is it the one in cleveland ? ) few times and have looked around for a case for my streak too
I always look in the portable HDD section .
Looks like streak people are always in the same league.
I have a question for you. Does this case have a belt holster.
I searched for the upc code but could not locate it
I'm actually down in Columbus but am also familiar with the microcenter you are talking about in cleveland.
The back of the case has a belt loop. You need to run your belt through it but it does work. Not sure how strong it is though or how long it will last. Here is the link to the microcenter link. If that doesn't work just type in "inland 2.5 hard drive case" in the search field.

Thanks once again. I will have a look at how i can modify the belt part.
I need the one with a belt clip and i do not wear a belt at work.
I purchased this Nintendo DS case from Best Buy for about $11.00. It is fairly well padded and will protect the Streak fairly well from bumps and drops as well as the structure of the case has solid panels to help protect it from "pokes" to the screen.

Case fully opened
Rip out the plastic DS holder
Put a few drops of glue on the zipper teeth right about where the slider is shown, so the zipper cannot be fully opened. DO NOT glue the slider down.
The back of the case is useful for holding things like a sync cable
**** Caution, test fit your streak first, some of these cases are a bit smaller (about 1/2 inch) than others, which will prevent the Streak from fitting in it correctly
The white one I just purchased, looks almost identical to the black one I currently use, and the black case fits the Streak fine even with the Commuter case on, but the white one will only fit the Streak naked... or perhaps after the months of wear on the black one it has just stretched enough that it fits it better
I'm going to sew another caribeener loop across from the existing loop so it can be clipped to another belt loop. That will prevent it from flopping around so much.
Nice

A quick tip: don't bring this case to your first date. Or the second date.. Or third...
I was bored at work today, so I started perusing the ebay listings for Dell Streak 5 cases.
I found this leather case and I must say, I'm quite impressed with the way it looks. I think I am going to buy one for me and my wife.

front view closed
back view closed (note that the opening for the camera was a bit shallow on mine. I had to cut it out a bit more. My wife's was perfect...)
open with flap/kickstand
side view
Other interesting items...
it doesn't have the cutout to insert the PDMI cord for connecting. Easy enough to cut it out, but I haven't yet. Also, the buttons on top (volume, shutter, on/off), don't have cutouts. there is an overlapping piece of leather that folds over the top of the streak to hold it in, or whatever. I kind of like it
Lastly, there is an elastic band keeping the case closed. I can foresee this wearing out, but nontheless, it's there and it works nicely. you can see it on the front closed view (first pic). Its a lighter brown stripe.
I give this case a 7 our of 10. Definitely better than the stock leather case from Dell. I figure I'll keep my otterbox in my car to mount in my holder and use this one in my backpack and moving about. It protects the streak quite nicely!
Nice like the look of the case.... Looks like PayPal is going to get a hammering

wow...nice indeed...i will wait for you guys to do a review first.i will get one after aswell.cheers for the tip.
Thats probably the best looking case I've seen so far. Love the stand feature! One problem I see is that if you need to take a picture, you won't be able to fold the front flap over because it would be blocking the camera, so you may have to hold it up wit the knuckle of the finger pressing the camera shutter button.
find it.nvm.just cant made my mind with one to buy!
Try the search function m8.
Hm, not a big fan of this one, and it's all because of how the device is held in.
I got the Dell branded leather book case and my favorite thing about it is that the actual piece that holds the phone is thin but very sturdy plastic sewn into the leather on the inside. The plastic covers NONE of the face of the device.
Then again, it cost twice as much, so I can see how this would be a good budget option for the same style.
I always have mine clipped into a my car dock or in a pocket that has nothing in to scratch it,I just use a protector on the screen. It is very nice though and could be a good one for long journeys and storage.
The problem I find is that it's too damn sexy to cover up!
Looks pretty nice
I had a Note, and my Note II is in the mail! I never had a case for my Note, but it did get pretty banged up, so I figure I'll sacrifice the ultra-slimness and get the Otterbox Commuter for the Note II.
I had great success with ProClip USA Car Mounts for the Note, but it wouldn't have worked if I had a case on the phone.
Is there a car mount that will work even with a case?
Thanks!
Edit: Here's what I have found. Does anyone have any experience with these?

Hi all, just got myself this off eBay, and it works really well, the only caveat is that you need a flatish area of dashboard for the feet to provide stability, in my car a Kia Rio I had 3 possible positions and eventually went with the one that gave best stability with viewing angle. The Note 2 with commuter case fits width wise no problem at all, as for depth its ok, had this been a Defender case it would probably not have enough depth but for the commuter its fine, for £5 its a no brainer

If you are willing to stick a small plastic tab at the back of the case, this one http://www.amazon.com/IQ-Smart-Solu...1359816768&sr=8-1&keywords=iq+smart+solutions works really well.
Pros:
The price is unbeatable. The same mount is selling in Canada for about $30 which IMO is worth it when comapre with other car mounts.
One hand operation. This is critical because from time to time, you may want to pass the phone to someone to adjust the GPS setting.
Very compact, excellent for taking it with you on trips
Very sturdy and well built.
Flexible, landscape or portrait, dash mount, windshield mount or even use it on the plane/desktop as a phone holder for video viewing. Optional suction cup for windshield mount is provided, you can switch between windshield or dash mount easily.
No worry of long term effect on the phone, especially the battery by magnetic mount
Three mounting tabs provided for three phones. I stick one of the tabs to a universal holder to make it universal for other family members.
The dash mount anchor is affixed onto the dash permanently with 3M adhesive, no worry of suction cup failure.
Cons:
You have to stick a black 3/4" square, 3 mm thick plastic tab at the back of the phone.
When you sell your car, you might have a hard time removing the dash mount anchor.
One more advice, if you want to go for it, buy 2 or 3 of them, save the mounting tabs for your future phones, you will not regret it.
Nice price. How is vibration on dash? ( comparing video shot with iottie and ibolt atm. ) Contemplating modding an extra defender holster similar to slip grip and getting a rammount setup, but this is more appealing, as I could easily use said holster for a gameklip type setup.
The mount is rock solid.

you could try the Clingo. They have a couple options. I personally haven't used it, but I have the Clingo Neklit with the GameKlip. Works pretty well, and I assumed it would be solid in the car situation. Here's one of the commercials on YouTube
I personally use the iOttie, but I just use a cheap Cruzerlite TPU case with my GN2.

I also use the iottie, the suction cup is awesome on texture dash and that puppy is not going any where.
I bought the clingo, I would not recommend it for me it was was a waste of $$$$$....it would hold the N2 for a while then it would fall off I have the Otter Commuter case.....if I did what the video showed holding it outside the window the N2 would of fallen to the street.

Totally agree
Has anyone used a magnetic phone mount with their OnePlus 3?
I have been using a infernal innovations mount with my Samsung S5, but I'm wondering if it will work fine with my new OnePlus 3. due to the metal back.
My main concern is that I'm worried about scratching the rear of my phone with the magnetic metal plate you need to put between your phone and cell phone case.

Have any of you used a similar device with your OnePlus 3? If you have what case are you using with your phone OnePlus 3?
Thanks in advance!
It's pretty easy if you'll use a non-clear case. Just go and buy any liquid clear back protector, cut it in the size of the metal plate and put it on the back. Than you can put the metal plate on it. There won't be any scratches.
I'v used three different Magnetic Car Mounts and a few difference cases. Originally, I used a case that has two pieces. I slide the metal plate between the two pieces. Easy, no risk of damage.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01H0EA1RK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The case was great but the hard plastic showed dirt/scratches very easy so it did not look very nice after a brief period. There are other similar 2-piece cases though you could look into.
I then tried a 1-piece case and put the metal plate between the phone and case. I haven't noticed any damage to the OP3 back yet....and I'm about a week into using it.
Oh, and here is my personal favorite for the Magnetic Car Mounts. It won me over because it was much lower profile then the other mounts.....while still maintaining a good hold of the phone.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016GNYZIC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've had the same results as the other responses here -- the magnetic mount works great, and I haven't had any issues. To prevent scratching, I just slipped a piece of paper between the metal plate and the phone. I've done this with several different phones and have never had any scratches. For the OP3, I'm using one of the cases sold by OP.
I have a nilkin shell case with carbon back. Great thing is it has the metal plate built in. Should be able to find it on Amazon.
Here's what I have right now.
I used the vinyl skin to hold the metal plate in place. I had the fear of scratching the back as well, so I wrapped the metal plate in tape and stuck it under the skin.
Here's my little review: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69531217&postcount=582
using magnetic car mount with my OP3 without problems, go for it
Been using one for about 3 months now, with no problem

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Much appreciated! Now to find that perfect case!
