Not sure why the other guys in the CWR install thread have been having problems but it worked great for me flashing from rom manager.

correct version
If you are having an issue and landed on this thread, make sure you have correct version of CWR.

/data folder format in CWR
I am in the process of putting my nook color back to stock from CM7. During the operation it is imperative to format the /data folder. When I go into that option in CWR it advises me that the format on the /data has failed. The /system folder formatted just fine..... any ideas?
thanks

It is not imperitive to format /data in CWR to get back to stock... when you get stock ROM on it... boot it up holding "n" and it will give you the option to clear data (reset to factory)

[Q] Honeycomb emmc formatting /boot?

Just a heads up: The instructions for @samuelhalff 's Honeycomb emmc ROM include this:
Boot with SD inserted, go to 'mounts and storage', and:
- format system, then data and THEN format boot (CWR may crash, simply hard reboot, format should have worked).
If you do format /boot, you will lose the ability to boot into CWR. That may be okay with you, but after trying Honeycomb on my emmc I went back to Froyo, and couldn't figure out why I couldn't boot into recovery.
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883175&page=103
if you want to restore the original /boot files.
Q: do I have to start over per the thread above or can I just push files to my /boot via ADB? or just boot from SD and restore that way if files are available?
Thanks!
you can boot to cwr via sdcard. that's how those of us on HC do it to make backups and such. works perfect.
Yep I *can* boot to CWR on SD. That's how I installed Honeycomb to the emmc. What I'd like is to restore CWR to /boot
Thanks though.
ahh. sorry, misunderstood.
you could try it... though from what i've read, it's risky. they say it's safer to just run it from the sd card.
if it works out well for you, please post up!
Ran it for a day. Too many force closes for me, but really cool that it runs at all!

My main concern is that I followed the instructions to install Honeycomb via CWR and it worked fine, but I didn't know that reinstalling from scratch ie. nook 1.x would be required since just reinstalling @cicada's Froyo port does not replace all of /boot
No tragedy. Restore just takes a bit longer.
If anybody can tell me how to restore /boot without wiping my current Froyo install that would be pretty nifty.
@xawen to the rescue!
Thanks!

[Nook Color] Cannot return to stock from Cyanogen

So I rooted my Nook with autonooter 3.0.0, I followed all the directions entirely. It worked perfectly, I liked it but wanted to try other stuff. Then I successfully installed Honeycomb v4 on my Nook, I tried it out, but didn't like it, I'll wait until later as its more developed. Then I installed CM7 on my Nook. Its nice, but for some reason a lot of my important apps force close on me. So I thought would just return to stock and then go to autonooter. I tried the method found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
So I don't know if it matters, but I remember formatting boot, system, and data in CWR during the installations of Honeycomb, and also formatting the system and data in CM7 and also in trying to return to stock. So in each of the installations I followed all of the directions perfectly.
Ok, so here is my problem. After I try to return to stock, I try to boot up my Nook, it goes to the Touch the Future of Reading screen, then to the screen with the 'n' on it and the adobe message at the bottom comes up. However, it will not go passed this. It hangs and I cannot fix it. I have tried the 8 reboots which does reinstall the original firmware, however when its complete and reboots it does not boot, it does the same thing I just described.
Please help, if I have left out any information just ask and I will fill in the details.
There is a recovery zip on the development forum. Boot into cwr and flash... that should do the trick... hopefully.

Doesnt he need to format the partions with a ext3 cwr before flashing or will the recovery do that?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I do have to fix up the partitions because everything I do is just giving me more hang.
Can anyone help with that?
Get CWR 3.0.5...
Write the SD card image to your uSD...
Copy repartition-boot-with-stock.zip to the root of the SD card...
Decide if you want to restore to 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 and copy the appropriate nook-complete-restore-1.0.x.zip to root of the SD card....
Boot off the SD card in your NC
since you say you have formatted boot... shouldn't ever need to do that btw...
Format Boot... System... Data... and cache...
Install the repartition boot zip file... then the complete system restore from SD card.
yeah.. once you reformat with CWR 3.0.0.5 you should be able to do the re-partition boot flash and then restore the image.
I just got back that way as well.

Thanks for all the help! I'm going to try this now. And I'm guessing it is, but will it be ok to use CWR 3.0.0.6 and boot with that from the SD card?
It needs to be CWR 3.0.0.5 in my experience.
3.0.0.6 supports EXT4 partitions and won't format them back to EXT3.. as long as they are EXT4, the nook will not boot into the stock rom.
The stock kernel doesn't support EXT4.. so it hangs just before it loads the system files..
If you wipe the partitions using 3.0.0.5 and install the full recovery image for 1.01 you should be a-ok.
Alright I got it! You guys are the best! Thanks for the help! Now I just need to re-root and I'm good to go! Thanks again!
Oh and yeah I used 3.0.0.5, that may have been the problem all along because I kept trying to fix with 3.0.0.6. Thanks!

Please help me

Hey guys,
I had a nook and autonooted it. So i'm familiar with that process. However, I returned that nook and got a new one and decided to phiremod it. So with this brandy new nook, I:
turned it on
popped in my clockworkmod sd card
formatted /system and /data
installed phiremod 4.1 from .zip
Failed to install.
What did I do wrong? I can't even get this thing into recovery!

Make sure you are using the Newest CWR image you need to use a CWR that has EXT4 support to install CM7
CWR 3.0.1.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=971197
Ahhh interesting...sucks that the link to it is down.
Also, my nook gets hung up at the stock "n" boot screen after following these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=949699
Is that norm?

no, what did you do step by step?
O yeah, since the main link is down to CWR you can try this Modified earlier one that support EXT4, it was the first one to do it and still works fine
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959240
It's in my first post what I did step by step.
I'm going to try to install CM7 to eMMC now. Obviously restoring is failing...

O i though you said you tried Restoring and now your not getting past boot. but yeah you cleared your system and data, so its going to hang on the N screen till you get something installed.
Let me try restoring 1.1 not 1.0.1 since mine came with 1.1
It looks like you and I are in a similar boat. If you successfully restore to 1.1 would you please post your steps for me?
I gotta try to find 1.1 restorable out there. I can't find it so far.
I haven't wiped the /boot ever. I've only formated the /system /data and /cache and also ran the . I'm wondering if my mounts are messed up?
Also, I did select "Wipe data/factory reset". Is that the prob?
I just successfully installed CM7. Maybe give that a try.
The wipe data/factory reset is the same as wiping data and cache. I'm thinking it has more to du with wiping system and then not flashing a rom properly.
But it should still boot to the SD I would think. Maybe we should try rebuilding /boot? Not that I know how to do that.
Which method did you install cm7 with?
touching /boot is the last thing I would do...

Thanks! I'll give that a shot in the morning glad you're up and running!

[Q] Help getting any rom to run off internal

Ok, backstory, picked up this Nook Color on craigslist, came with Honeycomb v4 on microSD, booted fine into that, but without uSD would boot to 'n' screen and freeze/stall. Got another uSD formatted with CWM Recovery and the clean original nook image to try and load that from scratch. While following the instructions to restore the original image I would get errors while trying to format system and data (something to the effect of Error cannot format system/!). So I tried to install both CWM to the internal and CM7 to the internal and both would say install complete from microSD, but when booting without the uSD, it would still try to boot into the original nook software and hand on the 'n'.
I tried this to see if my partitions were messed up, but I had the same partition structure and size as it should be (according to the post):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13003431#post13003431
Possibly because I ran this "repartition-boot-with-stock" from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
Please help, would prefer to run this off the internal!
Got CM7 running off yet another microSD with this thread:

Assuming the partition table is in tact then try formatting /system /data /cache in Clockworkmod.
If that doesn't work if might be time to entertain the possibility that you were sold a Nook with a bad emmc.

When I try to format /system /data /cache in CWM, I get an error message. What is the function of the emmc?

Putting it in PC terms, the emmc functions as the ROM for the bios, and as the solid state drive for whatever you're running on internal memory.
(What is the term for the tablet/smartphone equivalent of the "bios"?)

Bootloader.
As to the OP - It's still possible your internal flash is bad but the fact that you can list your partition table gives me hope that isn't the case.
I read through JoJa15's post you linked in "Dummies Guide to Fixing 'My Nook Won't Boot'" - It sounds like you listed your partition table per his post and found that it matched what he posted but didn't modify anything right?
The fact that your partition table appears to be in tact is good but the contents of those partitions could be complete gibberish which may explain why CWM errors out when trying to format them. What is the exact error CWM is giving?
I think the next "safe" step is to have a look at DeanGibson's post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1094371
Dean's CWM scripts will essentially blow away partitions 6-8 (/data / cache and /emmc) and re-create them. If your problem happens to be in one of those partitions then his tool may be a quick fix without having to play with fdisk. That said, I doubt it will work since you can't format /system (partition 5) and his tool doesn't touch the /system partition.
At that point you are pretty much left playing with fdisk, unless you can sweet talk DeanGibson into putting together a CWM flash that will re-do partitions 4 and 5 (extended partition and /system partition) which he may do.
From there it boils down to how comfortable you are with the Linux commands dd and fdisk...?
Good Luck,
Martian21
Ok, followed Dean's instructions with the packages from his post, but still no go.
The error I'm getting when going to Mounts and Storage Menu and running the format /system /data /cache options are:
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.2.8
Formatting /system...
Error formatting /system!
Formatting /data...
Error formatting /data!
Formatting /cache...
Error formatting /cache!
Really want to try and get this resolved as I want to install stuff onto the internal!

Your previous post showed that you were using clockworkmod recovery v3.0.2.8, that version does not have support for the “blue dot” NC. Not knowing for sure if your NC is really a “blue dot” or an original one, I would follow these steps.
1. Create a bootable CWM v3.2.0.1 SD card using the image located HERE. The instructions for it are located HERE. I know the post says v3.0.2.1, but it is miss-marked.
2. Once the card is made, download the repartitioning files located HERE, and the stock 1.2 image file “update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip” located HERE.
3. Put all those zip files onto the SD Card
4. Shut down the NC
5. Insert and start the bootable SD card
6. Follow the directions to flash the repartitioning files
7. Once that completes, flash the stock 1.2 image
8. When that is done, remove the SD card, and reboot the device
Hopefully at this point, you will be booting into a stock 1.2.0 system. You can now do whatever you want with the device.

Weird problem going back to stock.

I'm using a CM9 rom on my nook color and I wanted to go back to stock, so I created a cwr sd card. I can boot into recovery, so I format data/system/cache/dalvik and load nookcolor_1_4_1_update-signed.zip, then reboot the nook, it booted up to the Nook Color screen, then would do some weird boot loop is what I'm thinking I was getting. So I tried again, format everything, install the image .After rebooting it looks like its going to work, but then it hangs at the gray n screen. So I used a new sd card and a different cwr image and redid everything, same problem. So I went back to CM9 and it works fine, but why can't I go back to stock? I've read tutorials all over this place and even a few different ones from other websites. I'm following the instructions exactly.

I had the same exact problem when I was experimenting that process for my tips thread. For some reason, CWM is not clearing the partitions with the wipe commands like it should. The only way I could get it to work properly was to use my partition format zip to format them. You can get that zip at my tips thread linked in my signature. That zip version (5-6-7) formats /system, /data and /cache. That thread also has a link to my 1.4.3 stock zip.
thanks!

That did that trick ! Thanks so much. I just ran the 5-6-7 zip, and then installed 1.4.1, and was back to stock, updating now.
