GT-I9000M keeps flashing the GALAXY Samsung screen and won't boot - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been trying to flash my GT-I9000M using the JL2 ROM and .512 PIT file, but after Odin runs "param.lfs", the phone disconnects and it says "Removed!!". At that point, the phone tries to boot up and is in an endless loop with the "GALAXY S Samsung" screen flashing. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm dead in the water.

During this last attempt, the device was "Removed!!", but then "Completed" and "All threads completed (succeed 1 / failed 0)" appeared, but the phone is still doing the endless loop and not booting up. Ugh.

Not sure, but I don't think you need to use the pit file. If still not working try a different ROM.

I'm using ODIN. Doesn't ODIN require a .PIT file?

I've tried 3 different ROMS with the same result, with and without the .PIT file.

My Galaxy S has the same problem, but i wasn't flashing anything. I will just get a new one next week. I bought it just 6 days ago

Just tried this...same result.

I should mention that this phone is a Bell Vibrant from Canada.

I had this issue with my phone as well.
I was able to get it working again by flashing XXJPY via odin with repartition checked. Then immediately going back into download mode and flashing UGJL2 without repartition checked.
Edit: I used Odin v1.3 and 512.pit
Try this and let me know how it works.

What happened after you flashed XXJPY? Did it still endlessly cycle on the Galaxy screen? Mine does that as soon as the flash supposedly completes.

JPY on its own would not boot (w/ repartition)
JL2 on its own would not boot (w/ repartition)
The only way I got my phone to work was to flash JPY (w/ repartition) and then JL2 (w/o repartition).

Is your phone a Bell Vibrant (GT-I9000M) from Canada?

Yes. Approx a week old (a replacement for dead internal sd issue)

I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I tried your suggestion but got the same result. I don't know if this makes a difference, but the ROMs I got are USA ROMs from samfirmware.com. They didn't have any listing for Canada.

download UGJH2 and flash it without "phone bootloader update", without pit and no partition.
then flash UGJL2 with "phone bootloader update", without pit, and no partition.
Congrats, your phone works again.
People need to stop using Pit files/partition. It doesn't do anything other than wipe everything from the nand and cause weird issues like this.

For the second ROM, do you mean UGJL2? There is no UGLJ2 ROM that I can find.

I just tried your method and it did not work. I have the same issue.

I had the same problem on 4 of these handsets (GT i9000m, aka Bell's "Vibrant") and none of those 4 were ever flashed or modded. The problem apparantly lies in a bunch of corrupt internal SD cards that got shipped to Canada. In any event, if you're still within your DOA period, you should probably just get a replacement.

Is it normal for T model, or you just use weird and dangerous settings for fun?
Wiping EFS can lead to test-imei number and broken product code. Be sure you haver a backup of that folder before wiping that.
criskelo... I tried this and I didn't get anywhere :/
I had the same issue and it took me 2 hours to resolve (with a lot of pain, lol).
I've simply flashed the XWJM8 version using odin 1.3, no pit file and HENCE no repartition ticked.
It then booted to recovery console, because there was another error (can't remember which one cause I was too excited).
Anyway I did a wipe, cash clear and reformat SD card at the menu and let it boot.
After that I have flashed the latest version XXJPY also without PartitionInformation Table. (PIT). Then all the wipe and format stuff again.
I have now to go from scratch to setup anything again, but hey, at least my phone is alive again.
Some additional info. I also had that connection symbol on the screen with exclamation mark and triangle....so I thought I was done (due to trials with pit 512 which hung), but after removing battery and some trials I was able to enter download mode again....
Why happened that? I DON'T KNOW! I simply wanted to reflash the XXJPY stock rom, this time with pit512 and it lead to the topic of this thread!!!
This su**ed a lot, I didn't even modify something before!!!!
So: Less is even more! Don't fiddle with EFS and bootloader options it worked for me even without a pit!
Thanks to sardor for the initial idea, the XWJM8 seems to be a fixing rom for that when used properly, anyway to load a pit without to tick repartition is not a useful setting!
Well I was a long time reader at this great forum, IMHO the best regarding phone stuff, because there is the most useful knowledge shared.
I hope my first post will save other phones as well from sending it to repair.
Thanks I'm happy again..(let's see how long it'll last..lol...)
bricked my samsung galaxys and recoverd it
Hi I had exact same problem I totally bricked my i9000 Australian Optus version
I used
I9000DTJG4 firmware Australian Optus
With pit 512
And odin3 v1.3
Got all the files from
samfirmware . com / WEBPROTECT - i9000 . htm
Had to sign up but it’s free
However following criskelo's advice I unchecked the re partion box in odin
Even though the site above tells u to check it
And it worked
Thanks for everyone’s help on this thread.
Without you I would have had an expensive paper waited
Also the reason I got here in the first place as because I messed around with lag fix in clockwork recovery when I don’t know anything about it.
I was lucky this time but it’s really not worth playing around with things you doing understand.

Awesome, thanks buddy! I have spent too much time trying to fix this phone and it all totally pays off now!
Here is the fix for the Bell firmware:
Background info: I orginally tried the Lagfix and bricked my phone, this is how I finally fixed it...
1. Using Odin v1.82
Put Phone in download mode
Use PDA: I9000UGJH2
Use Phone: Modem.bin
(both files came from samfirmware, I9000UGJH2 download)
Use: 512.pit(also from samfirmware at the bottom of the i9000 page)
Check Re-Partition, Auto-reboot, F. reset time, phone EFS clear and Phone bootloader update. I know everyone above says don't but I tried their way first and it didn't work, I would recommend you do try their way first and if no results try mine.
2. Using Odin v1.82
Put Phone in download mode
Use PDA: I9000UGJL2
Use 803.pit
Check only Auto-reboot, F. reset time
Good luck! I hope you do your happy dance like I did!!

Just thought I would add to what got my phone back running again after having the Can't mount DBDATA error. It's a bell I9000M.
Used Odin 1.3 , Flashed Darky's resurection per his instructions pulled battery once complete, went back into download mode and flashed stock JL2 with Odin , re-partition un-checked and no Pit file and after that my phone was running again.
You can find Darky's Resurection Here!
Can not find the link for the JL2 stock rom but it's in the general section somewhere.
the xxjpu version worked for me
tlick repartition
add 512 pit
tick and add pda
tick and add modem
tick and add csc
go to download mode
connect usb
press start

Hey guys, I've read the above posts but frankly it's above my skill.

Can someone walk me through the steps to completely fix my phone and get it back to bone stock?
I'm not familiar with PIT and other files. I need someone to hold me hand on this one...

[Q] bootloop after 2.2.1

Hello,
Bit of a droid noob here. I forced my Galaxy S to update to 2.2.1 today through Kies. It wouldn't work at first so I had to erase the M off of the model number in the registry to make it work (I think thats where my problem started).
Now my phone just reboots at the samsung screen or if it is plugged into USB it shows a star on the screen. I am able to get into download mode and use Odin, but even after flashing with a stock ROM from samfirmwares it still boot loops.
Help.
Thanks.
Oh, I think I am in the wrong forum. Q and A would be more appropriate. Sorry...
Okay, been messing around a bit more. Tried to load a different 2.2.1 ROM and now it turns on and flashes the Galaxy S screen and turns off. Not sure if it is getting better or worse.
did you had any lagfix activated while updating? if so, try to a factory reset through recovery mode.
No, I had no mods. It was a stock Bell rom updated through Kies. I managed to boot into recovery mode and it said something about can't mount sd card.

I've just encountered this problem myself (I guess misery loves company Lets see if we can resolve this.
What was the 2.2.1 ROM that you flashed that allowed you to get back into recovery?
What's the specific error msg you're getting when you're in recovery?
Well, I have flashed so many ROMs today trying to fix it, what I can tell you is this: JL2 gives the best results. It gets to the S screen with JL2. I think JL2 lets you get to recovery mode, if not then JH2. Speedmod seems to format the sdcard but doesn't seem to fix the issue.
I am getting this error from recovery mode:
E:Can't/b mount /devlock/stl10
Some people say they have fixed this with various flashes and reflashes and repartition combos. I have had no luck so far.
Apparently there is a way to restore the partiation, but I am not there yet.
Oh, the 2.2.1 ROM I tried was JPU_Complete_Flash_by_Virnik
Most likely the internal SD is dead and you'll have to send the phone in for repairs...
Mine just died (again) too. Same problem.
I just got my i9000m back from repair today... Updated to the official Bell for fun and then tried to go back to jh2 for recovery 2e and now my phone continuously loops at the first GalaxyS screen. I tried to flash many other versions with same results... Tried odin 1.7 and that didn't help. Tried various combinations of re-partition and different versions and nothing is working. Any idea?
WOW! I am back up and running. This appears to be a data partition issue.
Can't say exactly what I did but here it goes. I may have done these things more than once today so you may have to run through this procedure a couple of times.
- Flashed JH2 with repartition and pit 512. (Stuck in bootloop)
- Flashed JL2 with Repartition and pit 512. (Boot to S Screen now)
- Flashed with SpeedMod 12
- Boot to recovery mode
- Format every partition
- Flash to JH2 with repartion and 512 pit. (Back to boot loop)
**** Heres where it was different***
- Flash to JL2 without repartion or pit
Booted up and working.
I know, sounds sketchy, but I must have reflashed my phone with 10 different firmwares today.
After I got it booted up I flashed it with Darky's 7.6 ROM. It gave an error at first about the data parittion but it repaired itself after running lagfix and changing to ext partition.
I may recomend to flash with Darky 7.6 and apply lagfix to rebuild the partitions and see if it fixes this issue right away.
P.S. I was using Odin 1.7 all day and switched to 1.3 in the end. I was using 1.3 when I got it working. Just thought I would add that.

[Q]Bell 9000M stuck at boot screen

Bought this phone last week, recovery & download worked with 3 button.
Rooted, flashed Darky, Voodoo Lagfixed in recovery, worked great.
Tried Doc Kitchen, worked great.
Voodoo lagfix in recovery, booted once, crashed, now stuck at Galaxy S screen.
No recovery, do have download mode. Power on, Galaxy screen, reboot, galaxy screen.....
This doesn't seem to be the same symptoms as SD failure, seems the only thing left to do is try to flash via Odin...
Downloading UGJL2 from SamFirmware, concern is;
If Lagfix is enabled, most Odin guides say this is an issue? Or should I just select and flash?
Thanks.
And Samfirmware.com gave me a .rar file?
Contents:
factoryfs.rfs
cache.rfs
modem.bin
param.ifs
sbl.bin
zimage file?
I had similar problem. However, I was trying to flash to JH2 because i wanted to unlock my phone, but ended up with boot loop and no recovery mode.
I fixed this problem by trying to flash JH2 firmware and it came back to live. The first time flashed it, the phone went into recovery. However, there was a msg something about Media cant be found. So i flashed it with JH2 again with re-partition not checked and no .pit file. In addition, I used Odin 1.7 instead of 1.3. and the phone is all good now.
I think the problem might be with Odin v1.3. you can give a try but no guarantee..
OK.
Stupidity = Off
Flashed UGJL2, JH2, JG8 using Odin 1.7, Pass!
Still no recovery, still in a bootloop.
flash jpc from samfirmware with pit 512 and repartitioning checked, that worked for me,
using .tar or pda et all?
End thread.
JK4 flash for replacement status nets 3e recovery and a failed SD.
Cheers.

SGS Back to life using a jig.. now what?

I messed up my Bell SGS playing with odin.
Lost the 3 button options and ended up hacking a jig to get it into DL mode. done
Goal - a Functioning phone. Now what?
Thinking I should odin the I9000M_JL2_JL2_JL2_JL2_UG_BMC.tar.
But with or without repartition?
Can I use any 512pit?
I think repartitioning is where i messed it up.
Now all of this happened because I wanted seeARMS.JL2.v0.4 but couldn't update with the <3e> recovery mode.
Knowing that seeArms is my second (first?) goal, is there a different firmware I should flash something other than BMC to give me back update functions, but stable to resuscitate my phone?
There's ages of material here and I don't want brick my phone or waste time, I've done enough of that by myself.. now I'm looking for some expert opinion.
thanks
Best option for bell users is darkys rom. For further info check darky's rom info

Goal - a Functioning phone. Now what?
Thinking I should odin the I9000M_JL2_JL2_JL2_JL2_UG_BMC.tar.
But with or without repartition?
Can I use any 512pit?
I think repartitioning is where i messed it up.
Now all of this happened because I wanted seeARMS.JL2.v0.4 but couldn't update with the recovery mode.
Knowing that seeArms is my second (first?) goal, is there a different firmware I should flash something other than BMC to give me back update functions, but stable to resuscitate my phone?
There's ages of material here and I don't want brick my phone or waste time, I've done enough of that by myself.. now I'm looking for some expert opinion.
thanks

So the stock JL2 that I have is a .tar and .dll
I have a 512.pit from a beta 2.2 , are they different?
Did I mention boot problems too? Hanging @ Samsung, no splash ani.
I guess the .pit means yes on repartition?
Thanks
Just use the stock firmware and .pit from samfirmware.com and when Odin is open do not tick off repartirion... just put the .pit in it's spot and the tar in th's PDA part and flash

Download a full firmware for your model and locale (with dbdata in it) and flash it with repartition with the pit proposed (samfirmware.com) then, I believe, you will have a full functioning phone. If everything is ok, then flash ... whatever.
It's Alive! - Can't mount /dev/block/stl10 fixed.
Hey All,
Got it all working again.
Repaired: Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
the fix: A full firmware (pda/csc/phone/pit) flash w/repartition.
Flashed w/repartition - I9000XXJP2.7p. (the only FULL firmware I had on-hand)
on reboot the system does a media check and was successful in reformatting and mounting the internal SD.
Phone didn't like the ROM and still logo of death, but..
A quick Jig into Download Mode..
Flashed I9000UGJL2_homebinary_add_param.tar with no repartition
(can't remember if I used .pit).
And Success!! my phone is alive and running 2.2
Thanks for the help, and hopefully this thread can help others.
Everyone should build/get a jig
There is nothing more awesome than being able to force download your non-booting phone.
I could not have done this repair without one.

The only problem now is it's back to stock...
oh phone, how can I crash you next?
thanks again everybody!

Yes, do this. For repartition to work the .tar has to have dbdata.rfs, otherwise it won't work.
Then flash a speedmod kernel with odin for root/cwm and flash you're favourite custom rom
unlock&root owngrade or speedmod kernel? suggestions?
Forgot to mention that all this started after I got the phone back from Bell service after SD card failure.
I know mod methods changed with the latest firmware, as I had used the update.zip method that is now unavailable.
My phone went in unlocked and rooted
the phone came back re-locked (old code doesn't work? wtf?),
and it was unrooted w/3e recovery
Can the phone unlock code change?
Will downgrading to 2.1 make unlocking easier?
or is unlocking just as simple after a speedmod kernel with odin for root/cwm
Which is better?
downgrade the firmware to 2.1 and root using the old update.zip method or speedmod kernel?
Which kernel? (link please )
cheers

You know what....I've been trying various combinations of CSC/MODEM/PIT and everything to get this phone running again.
All I did was select a FULL UGJL2, and thats IT. NO pit, NO repartition, and it worked
The best way to revive your I9000m is to first flash JPC (a three file ROM) with 512 PIT and repartition ticked. The phone will still be in a boot loop. Then flash the JL2 PDA without repartition or PIT. The best way to go back to stock! Has always worked for me. I9000m's are not the same as other I9000's and do not flash repartition and the PDA in the same flash! Good luck!

Cant flash modem.bin at all on Gtab sprint

I wanna know if you can help me, ...
I was on sprint gtab stock rom DJ30 which updated to EA24 and EB28. Data service worked very well. Then I flashed voodoo CWM in order to install Honeycomb rom. Then install the rom via CWM. The installation was indeed finished, but it stucked in samsung logo boot. I turned off device and boot in cwm mode. Sure, it was HC rom's CWM. But it couldnt mount system, Seems the convertion to ext4 didnt work. Worse thing it couldnt mount sdcard either. So I couldnt reinstall the rom. I also couldnt reboot, so i had to long press the power button.
Stop trying installing HC rom on my device, i decided to revert back to stock rom (DJ30>EA24). But it was weird, i cant revert to stock rom with modem.bin inside the package. It always stuck in modem.bin when flashed with odin. But, when i use the package with no modem, it can flashed succesfully. I had flashed that stock rom (with modem.bin) million times without fail, but now always fail.
Yeah, my gtab is running but without modem.bin so no signal and i cant use data services. Like wifi only tab.
Many ways i've tried:
- I've tried flashed DJ30 with no modem first. Okay, it is successful. But when flash with EA24 (with modem) it stuck on modem.bin.
- I've tried flashed DJ30 with modem.bin. And it also stucked on modem.bin. Trying flashed EA24 without modem.bin, it is succesful.
- Try using heimdall. Progress 100% but it wont reboot. But when i retry n uncheck modem. Flashing work flawlesly.
- Try using odin modem only flash. Progress bar is full but it wont reboot.
- Try flashing via CWM, but still no luck.
Weird, huh. Seems my gtab cannot use modem.bin anymore.
Any clue? Thanks before ...
I'd appreciate if you can help me flashing modem.bin to my device. Or it end up with wifi only tab.
EDIT: even OTA update, stuck on "verifying modem ... updating modem ..."
I would like to bump this as I am having the same issues also. I am flashing my Sprint Galaxy Tab to EA24, and it is held up at modem.bin.
I posted a question on this, and am hoping that someone helps us.
Thanks in advance,
Claud
try re-partition and flash pit by using odin,i suffered the same issue with my vzw tab
depending on which file you're using to restore. You need to use the .tar.md5 file from the EA24 flasher and rename it to just .tar, then flash with Odin. I've flashed this several times and it gets past modem.bin just fine. If you are using the 2 files 1 with modem (Epic 4g modem) and 1 without modem you're not using the right files. I ran into the same issue with the with/without modem files. Here's a link to the EA24 flasher and the .tar.md5 file you need to go back to stock.

Bumping this to avoid making a new thread.
I've done many reverts back to stock from different ROMs, but this past time coming from BTL or HC (Sprint Tab btw) I'm also getting hung up on modem.bin. Never had a problem here before, so not sure what's going on.
I didn't use a pit and only had reboot checked and it worked fine.
I've never included pit. I've just always put SPH-P100.EA24.SECURE.REV07-FULL_CL871413.tar in the PDA slot and let it go through. And tried checking re-partition, but it does not go through that way.

Pretty sure if you try to re-partition, you have to have the correct pit file for it to know the right places to recreate the partition table. If you're just flashing back to stock, there's no need for the pit file.

That's what I thought and never had a need for it. Guess I do now. Think it would even work?

I've never had to repartition a device, but i've read about it working for people to bring them back from boot looping etc. If somehow the partition table gets corrupted etc. If you're already soft bricked, there's no harm in trying.
Having the same issue, trying to go from Rooted GB to BTL then back to GB or EA24
Hi,
I am having the same issues, does anyone have the .PIT file available by any chance, all of the packcages that I have downloaded for the sprint tab seem to not have any pit included...

You need to look at one of the stock VZW threads and find the files you need there, as the sprint modem will make things worse for you. Not sure if the pit files are the same or not between the sprint and VZW tabs..

I have the correct files for the tab for Verizon. I have the original files Following: Sbl.bin boot.bin cache.rfs dbdata.rfs efs.rfs factoryfs.rfs ldb.db modem.bin param.lfs param.rfs pit.pit zImage
But my problem is how to record using that pit. What other files should I use a recording that will restore the partition table?
I fear that a problem occurs with even higher tab.
I am having this issue as well, and I'm also coming from HC and on Sprint. I have no trouble flashing any kernel/rom of my choosing EXCEPT for the modem.
At this point, I'm just trying to reflash it back to stock. I've got the Sprint EA24 files, including the pit (tried with and without) but it refuses to flash the modem. If I omit the modem, it flashes perfectly fine and I'm left with a bone stock tab with no modem.
Is there anyone here who went to HC and then managed to go back? As stated by others, I've gone back to stock before without issue. The HC build seems to be what caused this problem
I ran spacemoose's HC port for a day or 2 and then went back to stock until the official GB came out. I've had no issues flashing the whole EA24, or any other updates.. with and without the modem..
Hmmmm. Maybe different hardware revisions? You have any suggestions? I'm completely out of ideas and it's of little use to me without 3G.
I just did a flash back to complete stock (including modem) 2 days ago, and it didn't hesitate once while flashing everything with Heimdall. Only thing I can say is keep trying.
At this point, I've attempted to flash it no less than a dozen times and still can't get the modem to flash. I'm completely baffled as to why it won't accept it.
