[Q] Upgrade to 1.0.1 from 1.0.0 - Nook Color General

How can do this? I want to get clockwork recovery but the I instructions say 1.0.1 only. Is there an image for zip file for the 1.0.1? Thanks

It is avalible from B&N website. I did it and adds some thing that are nice.

I had to flash back to stock 1.0.1 a few hours ago. Used this link:

[Q](solved) Newbie !!! Best route from 1.0 rooted to 1.1 rooted

I purchased the NC last week and it came with 1.0 software. I have rooted with the 1.0 software and everything is awesome.
I have been reading feverishly on here but am a little confused. Can someone point me to the steps to go from rooted 1.0 to rooted 1.1. I am looking forward to bringing nook to BN store and use the free in store reading for an hour.
I have been searching on here and just a little confused and how to get to this next rooted software.
Thanks,
Mike
EDIT: IGNORE! I see you want 1.1. Sorry, this can be deleted by mod. This is why they don't let new posters, post links.
you can flash 1.1 right over 1.0 apparently. It didn't work well for me. If I were you, I'd go to 1.0.1 first and then to to 1.1.

From what I understand, you need to first update to 1.0.1. Then, auto-nooter. After that's done, you can apply Decadence's 1.1.0 pre-rooted update. You need to be on 1.0.1 to auto-nooter before you update to 1.1.0.
Hope that helps!
So it has to be a specific 1.1 right? I have a 1.0.1 rooted and tried to install the 1.1 from the B&N site, but nothing happened. My nook just restarted and deleted the zip file from the nook's root directory with no update taking place.
If you want 1.1 AND be rooted, then you'll need to start with a rooted NC that is on 1.0.1 or 1.0.0. Then flash 1.1 with the file provided in the thread below.

Rooting 1.1 nook color
I just got my Nookcolor (with 1.0.1) and was planning on rooting it, when a couple days ago I turned it on and it upgraded itself to 1.1. I just tried to use the instructions to root it using the SD card img (for 1.0.1), and no huge surprise that it did not seem to work.
I am assuming the procedure at this point (until someone comes out with a 1.1 .img) that I need to downgrade back to 1.0.1 before I have can root it.
Is this possible? Is there a procedure for it?
I also have seen very touchy typing on the virtual keyboard, and would like to use instructions I have seen to recal the touchscreen (but it requires root, of course). If I don't have a way to do this I might just return it to B&N.
I do like it a lot better than my eInk nook.

Yes. You have to revert back to 1.0.1 first. Lots of threads that tell you how. I'm about to turn in for the night so don't feel like searching. But go to the development forum and find the 1.0.1 recovery and then use that to revert back. PM me if you need help.

Thanks to all. I will give this a try and report back.

That is exactly what I did.
UPDATE: IIRC the pre-requisite is to be on 1.0.1.

1.0.1? I thought I could use this from rooted 1.0? If not, how do I get to 1.01?

See this thread for a couple different approaches
Just looking to confirm I can go from 1.0 to 1.1 . I thought I have read some posts indicating that. If anyone has done this, please let me know if I am on right track.
Thanks,
Mike
I am sorta lost also, I have read a few threads and each one says a different thing. I have a stock 1.0.0, what would be the absolute easiest of doing this, also do I need to leave the SD card in the nook? (borrowed it from my Verizon fascinate)
To go from stock 1.0.0 to 1.1:
Download 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 patch http://images.barnesandnoble.com/presources/download/nookcolor/v1.0.1/Sideload_update.zip Source: http://nookdevs.com/NookColor_Rooting
To use patch, follow directions here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/noo...igLink-_-k244266-_-j12871747k244266-_-Primary It says 1.1.0 but it's the exact same steps
You now have 1.0.1 no root.
Download Automooter 2.12.25 and follow directions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=872490 THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING ON THE SD CARD
You now have 1.0.1 rooted NC.
To go from 1.0.1 to 1.1.0 go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932145
There may be better ways, do everything at your own risk, hopefully it won't cause a natural disaster, etc.
Note: I only have experience going from 1.0.1 to 1.1.0. But going from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 seems trivial.
After you do all that download "ROM Manager" from the Market. Open it. First option is Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, click it if you don't have a current recovery (Can't remember if one of the above steps installs it...). ClockworkMod makes it easy to backup and restore your setup. Click on Backup Rom, it will reboot and backup the rom to the sd card. If you ever mess something up, you can recover that rom so you won't have to go through 1.0.0 to 1.1 again.
I tried updating to 1.01 per directions and nothing happened. I then tried to install zip through clockwork recovery and it started but said installation aborted.
I am having a tough time upgrading from 1.0 root to 1.01 root. I have followed directions and struggling. The update zip say's installation aborted when tried thorough rom manager sd card. Nothing happened when I transferred to nook drive via usb cable. I am at a complete loss now.
Are you sure the NC is 1.0.0? Look under Settings > Device Info > About Your NookColor
The file is exactly named as above? Not Sideload_update-1.zip? It's in the root (not in any subfolder) of the NC, not on the sd card?
Try rebooting, then poking around the menus to see if it updates. Reboot as in hold power button down till it says "Do you want to turn your device off?", hit yes, it's off, then turn back on.

[Q] Need help updating to 1.1.0 rooted

I rooted my nook color using autonooter. I am currently on 1.0.1
I tried updating my nook color using the 1.1.0 rooted guide found on android central forums.
I downloaded the file and put it on SD card but when I go to install the zip using clockworkmod recovery I get the message.
--Installing: /sdcard/update.zip
finding update package...
opening update package...
E: Can't open /sdcard/update.zip
(no such file or directory)
Installation aborted
Can anyone help me with this? I'm new to doing this and don't fully understand everything.
Is the zip file you're flashing actually called update.zip? If not you need to select the zip from your SD card with the right name and flash.

Just use D3cad3nc3's [ROM] Nook Color V1.1.0_r2. I just did this and it worked fine.

Upgrade to 1.1.0 and then root, or root at 1.0.1 and apply rooted 1.1.0?
Sorry if this is already answered, but I just bought my NC today, and it is loaded with 1.0.1 software. Is the general consensus that it is better to autoroot first, then apply decad3nce's 1.1.0 rooted rom; OR better to update, unrooted, to 1.1.0 and then use the autorooter for that build?
Thanks in advance

I'm not an expert but this worked perfectly for me.
-Rom 1.0.1
-Root with Monster Rootpack
-Loaded all my favorite apps, got it working perfectly
-Upgrade to Rom 1.1 with D3cad3nc3's [ROM] Nook Color V1.1.0_r2 [01/29/2011] - be sure to use Monster Rootpack 0.7

This sounds like you have Clockwork Mod installed via ROM Manager (not sure if that is the only app that uses CWM). My advice would be to use autonooter-3.0.0.zip after resetting to stock and then updating to 1.1.0 stock first. Or if you do have CWM installed, merely install NookColor_v1.1.0_r2.zip from within CWM. Same effect, just different ways to skin that cat.

Rooted First on 1.0.1, then upgraded
Thanks to those who responded.
I ended up using autonooter for 1.0.1 first on my just bought NC, downloaded ROM Manager (free) from the Market and installed CDW from within it, and then applied Decad3nce's 1.1.0 pre-rooted .zip ROM.
All worked perfectly! The hackers here are great.
i also just receive my nook color and firmware is also 1.0.1.
I am root newbin trying to follow this guide but it claim i need to upgrade to FW 1.1. first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942424
So i have question. They claim i need to do a complete wipe for 1.1 update?
I am kinda confuse? So do i need to do a complete wipe to my virgin nook color first (i have register my nook color to bn already) before i install the FW 1.1 from Barnes and Noble site and following bn site instruction to upgrade firmware?
http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/noo...igLink-_-k244266-_-j12871747k244266-_-Primary
thanks all info!
I'm no expert. But, I updated my 1.0.1 non rooted to 1.1, then rooted using auto nooter. But, If you're already rooted on 1.0.1, the other way may be easier for you.

[Q] Stuck at 1.0

I restored my NC after much fun with rooting etc. Seems totally stock now with the original B&N software. Trouble is, it went back to the 1.0 version and for some reason won't let me upgrade to 1.1.
I downloaded the 1.1 upgrade from the B&N site and placed it in the myNookcolor drive. Followed the instructions carefully, but not only does the NC ignore the update, but somehow erases the file.
I wonder if I have to be at 1.0.1 in order for the upgrade to work. Or am I missing something else.
Thanks.

Nook Color 1.2 & ROM Manager rom installation of CM7

I may have made a huge mistake.
I just purchased a Nook Color version 1.2, and successfully rooted it using ManualNooter 4.5.2. Everything was working pretty much, and I didn't think to check, but went into ROM Mananger, downloaded CM Mod 7.0.2 I believe, and installed it.
It rebooted, installed, and now is stuck at the boot screen (where the word color is rainbow flashing).
No backup (yeah I know...)
Where should I go from here?
Is there a way to flash the Stock 1.2 via CMW? I can get to that screen, but I need a way to install a .zip that will work...
For now I am going to flash to 1.0.1. I can just upgrade over wifi to 1.2 and then re-root, correct?
Figured it out. Flashed to 1.0.1, and then upgraded to 1.2. Now to re-root again haha. What a process!
If you just want to play with CM7, you don't need to root. You can install to SD without touching the 1.2 installation: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
If you want a little simpler, step-by-step version of those instructions, google "anamardoll nook cm7."
The bootable SD you make can also flash CMW to your NC without rooting or otherwise disturbing the 1.2 install. Just make sure you get a suitable SD if you're planning to run CM7 off of it--this thread breaks down what to look for:

Stock 1.3 Manualnooter Sequence Question

My wife has a stock Color Nook with the 1.3 update that has never been rooted. I have a 1.1 Autonootered Nook that works great and my wife wants something similar. I have read the Manualnooter instructions that have been updated for 1.3 but they are a little confusing as they are intermingled with the 1.2 instructions.
The instructions appear straight forward but I have one specific sequence question. Once the 4.5.18 zip is installed, do I immediately install the 4.6.16 zip or do I try to boot without CWM after the 4.5.18 install first?
It would be great if someone could post some instructions specific to a stock, never rooted 1.3. It would be even better if there was a Manualnooter version that could go from stock 1.3 to rooted without multiple installs.
Thanks to all the developers and others...great forum!
I agree with what you have said and from what i read youll have to run the first then boot up and then run the second and boot full up..here is what it quoted which you would thing it would be just loading the first update then the second immediatly afterwards but thats not what it reads here in the MN post:
1.3 Must do these instructions first with 4.5.18 then with 4.6.16.

You need to boot in between applying MN 5.18 and 6.16. In actuality, if you are going straight from stock, you probably can just use MN 4-6-16, but I've not tried that myself.

I was wondering if anyone had tried directly loading 4.6.16 or 4.6.16a from a never rooted, stock 1.3? It would be great if it worked. Seems that I read that 4.6.16 might have some kernal incompatibility with 1.3. Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

I think someone reported that going from a fresh install (not rooted) with 6.16 directly worked. The whole thing is a little squirrely - there should be no reason to have to install 5.18 first, for that matter.
There isn't really a kernel incompatibility either, it's just a bit of a 'rollback' if you will. No one's done an updated 1.3 kernel except for Dalingrin, so I just dropped his OC kernel on immediately after applying 6.16 (without restarting in between).

After applying 4.6.16, boot with a SD card in the slot. It was reported earlier that this may make a difference.
Let me propose this sequence for the never rooted, 1.3 Nook Color:
1. Burn CWM image to SD card
2. Boot to CWM and run a backup of stock 1.3
3. Install 4.6.16a
4. Install 1.3 OC kernal
5. Boot - does SD card need to be installed?
6. Log into Market, etc.
7. Fix permissions in ROM Manager
Does that sound about right? If this does not work, I assume that I can restore the backup that was made in step 2.

In step 1, make sure you have the latest CWM - especially if you have a blue dot unit with the 1gb partition.
I don't know the implications of skipping MN4.5.18.
Are my Amazon Market annd Android Market apps retained when I sideload the 1.3 update? Do I need to reinstall all the apps and restore the settings? Thanks.
