OK, so long story short. I have a client who bought 4 tabs. 2 UK GT-P1000 and 2 US ATT. He was told by another service provider that the GT-P1000's would not work in the states, so he bought 2 ATT Tabs. He lives in states part time and in Argentina the rest of the time. So he wanted me to make the ATT tabs have the phone (which he had seen on the UK GT-p1000) functionality, which I did using rotohammer's original method with Odin. I flashed the Russian and then Euro versions and then added the bell Modem. My client only had an ATT sim card with data only, so he dumped his tab contract (and paid the fees) and picked up a cheap blackberry with phone and data plan. We used this sim in the tab and he was very happy here in the states. He has now returned to Argentina and is not able to use the tab using the ATT Sim card. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Is the bell modem the wrong one? Is there a certain provider that he would be better using? Any help appreciated.
Can he use a Movistar sim? They are throughout South America. They are the same as at&t, so the bell modem would be a good bet.
That was my recomendation to his IT guy in Argentina yesterday. Anybody else know any more info. I was actually thinking the movistar tab was way cooler than the ATT with it's sat tv capability.
I agree. Movistar is good down there and you can add credits easily. That tab is very expensive!

So I'm writing a tutorial using RotoHammers Thread on unlocking
LINKhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323 - How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab
I am having him install titanium, astro and a custom gcript.apk that will allow the tech to install the custom apk using titanium and then have him back up the tab completely using clockworkmod (rotos custom, pre installe here in states) then some scripts in gscript that will run the /efs backup and the another to run rotohammers adb commands from that thread. (I hope that this all works)
The I have to have him pull the APN settings ( anybody know where these are so I can write a script of adb commands to back them up) and have him test the tab and correct the apn settings if they are wrong. Still have to find the Movistar APN settings for Argentina as well.
Thanks.
You are exactly right. In wireless settings make sure roaming is off or you will burn through your credits.
Here is your apn:
www.celularis.com/tips/configuration-gprs-y-mms-para-movistar-argentina.php
dude, you should get that tab unlocked and use an Argentinian SIM when he's there and then when he comes back to the states he can plug in the ATT SIM, problem solved.
Check the date - your advise is 3 months too late! Thanks anyway.

I offered to send my phone to my young daughter in Germany.
The phone is Rooted but is running the standard stock ROM.
I have been in touch with T-mobile, but since I cancelled my account, they are jerking me around with the unlock code.
My question is, can my daughter use her prepaid GSM phone card from Aldi in the Rooted G1 w/o unlocking it? I am aware data might not work, but she will be using the Wifi anyways. Any advice/input?
hey brutal-force
there don't should be any problems,
is used a rooted american G1 with my German o2 sim card
all i had to do is to set the apn manualy.
The provider settings should be loadet automaticly, instead off you coudln't use your phone in other countries
and with the simlock i hadn't any probs.
best regards,
psycho
so after 6+ hours of searching for an answer i'm giving up and asking. i've found many tutorials and guides on how to use a t-mobile tab with voice calls and edge data but not 3g. now i dont know if im crazy or just not understanding this right but baseband determines if it will allow the phone to pick up certain signals including phone calls and data such as edge or 3g. therefore by upgrading the baseband on my tab i should be able to use these services, together or however I choose, depending on if the modem.bin i flashed works in my area. please someone tell me if i'm wrong, because i'm not 100% sure on all of this.
anyways, I have 2 galaxy tabs. 1 purchased in Hong Kong and the other purchased in mainland China (but this is a branded t-mobile tab in black). The info is as follows for firmware:
HK Tab: PDA: P1000XWJMK | PHONE: P1000ZTJK1 | CSC: P1000OXAJME
T-Mob: PDA: P1000XWJMK | PHONE: I9000UGJK3 | CSC: P10000XAJME
Both ROMS on latest Overcome firmware/kernel, rooted, and all 4 settings in lock status(*#7465625#) are set to OFF.
SO onto the issue... I'm using China Unicom (CHN-CUGSM) for the Hong Kong Tab with working HSDPA and voice calls in mainland China. When I insert this SIM card into the T-Mobile tab all get is EDGE/Voice calling. Now. from my understanding, all I need is the Asian/HK modem.bin(P1000ZTJK1) flashed onto the T-Mobile tab and it should work on the China Unicom network, because again from what I understand it is the carriers in the states that are blocking the use of 3g with voice calling. I could totally be wrong here and please correct me if I am wrong. Lol for all I know it could be as simple as differences in hardware.
Another question that I have is: I have a US AT&T 3g sim in a blackberry. It currently receives 3g data/voice calling on roaming. If I wanted to use this same service with the T-Mobile tab is it possible with a new modem such as the one I have on the Hong Kong tab? Also, if I decide to take this T-Mobile tab with the AT&T sim in it to the states do I have to switch modems?
Sorry for the ridiculously long post. I just havent found anything for a person hoping to use a T-Mobile tab in China regularly that is in plain English. Found many Chinese sites, but they use different terms for flashing and what not (ie they call it "brushing" i think).
(SQEAL)
SUMMARY of QUESTIONS for EASE of ACCESS, Lol
1) Will flashing a Hong Kong baseband(P1000ZTJK1/ZHJK1) to a T-Mobile tab allow access to 3g/voice service in Mainland China on China Unicom?
2) Will an AT&T 3g sim on Roaming (with 3g/voice currently working on a BB in roam) work in the T-Mobile tab IF said tab had the HK baseband? (With current baseband doesn't do HSDPA or 3G.) and again, on China Unicom...
3) Will using this T-Mobile tab in the states with the AT&T sim in it work in terms of voice/data (if so, what kind? EDGE only?)
4) Will I have to switch modem.bin when visiting the USA if using the AT&T sim in the T-Mobile tab?
So i managed to get everything working and just in case anybody is wondering here are the answers that I've found.
1) Will flashing a Hong Kong baseband(P1000ZTJK1/ZHJK1) to a T-Mobile tab allow access to 3g/voice service in Mainland China on China Unicom?
A) no. At least in my case. I got it so that both my hk tab and t mob tab were on the same firmware, baaeband, kernel, etc. And while my hk tab was 3g and voice call capable the t mob tab was only getting edge and voice.
2) Will an AT&T 3g sim on Roaming (with 3g/voice currently working on a BB in roam) work in the T-Mobile tab IF said tab had the HK baseband? (With current baseband doesn't do HSDPA or 3G.) and again, on China Unicom...
A) nope. Im guessing by this point the modem is only half the problem? Found a tutorial titled "Getting 3g and voice on a Tmobile Tab[Updated Nov 22,2010]" on xda and after following this guide the Tmobile tab is fully functional on China unicom with hsdpa and voice calling.
Sorry don't know answers for last 2 questions but Im guessing i will have to flash a new modem if tryin to use in the usa.

Hi everyone,
Last month I bought a Galaxy Note (unlocked international version) for myself from Techno Trading House.
Before I received the phone I switch to ATT GoPhone from another provider. Once I received the phone I just switch the sim card to note and add the apn.
Everything working cool.
This phone came with default language of greek or polish, which i'm not sure. So i guess its European version. The phone says "Made by Samsung".
Then I decide buy another Note for my wife. From Techno Trading House. Like me my wife also switch to ATT GoPhone. This phone says "Made in Korea by Samsung". We set up the apn same like my phone and I can see 3g & H signals.
But the problem is the data does not work. When I open SpeedTest.net app the app force close 7 out 10 times. The other 3 times when I tap Begin Test, it will prompt message "Network communication Issues", "Try Again".
First I doubt it would be the sim, then we switch the sim, my wife's sim work perfectly on my phone ("Made by Samsung") and my sim had same problem in her phone ("Made in Korea by Samsung").
The only different I could see between this 2 phones is my phone say "Made by Samsung" (working perfectly) and "Made in Korea by Samsung"
(data not working).
Is anyone here having similiar problem? Or is anyone having Note which says "Made in Korea by Samsung"?
Hey, I had the same problem with galaxy S2, I don't think you are going to be able to have GoPhone data on your smartphone. What I did is I went to ATT store and replaced my sim (say that you forgot your ATT phone at home) and brake your existing sim. Try with new sim directly in your galaxy note! It should work but after some time they will turn it off because it is not a smartphone data plan! Cheers

But dude, I tried my wife's sim on my galaxy note and it worked!
I got data speed 1.3mb.
Her sim worked in my galaxy note and also on her old SE phone.
But her galaxy note does not work with her GoPhone sim and also my GoPhone sim.
retry apn
i would delete the apn in your wifes phone and re enter it as a new apn. make sure everything is the same as yours even capitalization. also make sure that gsm/wcdma is set to auto. hope this helps. if this doesn't work then maybe a factory reset would help. both sims work so there is something not set correctly in the phone.
may i ask what your apn settings are?
Wait where did you buy the note? Korean ver notes have 4g and is different hardware wise i.e. Not compatible to xda galaxy note roms. This is the only reason i can think of?

i have the korean version. i only get edge and i've tried every apn setting out there. 0.04Mbps DL 0.03 UL
made in korea and korean LTE note are different things
the made in korea for Samsung is a regular note with regular hardware. there is an Korean version of the phone with LTE.
i would delete the apn you have in your wifes phone, then insert sim , reboot then re enter the apn. make sure the use packet data box is checked and network mode set to auto. the gophone plans use GSM networks so turn it to auto just in case it isn't.
Delete the entire contents of the efs folder, reboot, you'll have data.
Make sure to save the deleted content somewhere.

So I have ICS (AOKP) on my p1000 that I originally bought from AT&T. Since then I flashed the modem and use a prepaid T-Mobile sim card for phone calls. For the next couple months I need a data plan and have thought about using my original AT&T sim that came with the tablet to activate their $15/250mb per month plan. Since it's for such a short time, I would just leave my T-Mobile in for calls, and put the AT&T sim in if I need to check my email.
When I take out the T-Mobile sim and insert the one from AT&T, it says I need to reboot to connect to the network.
Upon reboot, I go into Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. At this point it searches for available networks. I see both AT&T and T-Mobile as choices. When I chose AT&T, however, it says "Unable to connect to this network at this time"
Is there something I need to do in order to enable a data service through AT&T? I haven't signed up for the plan yet, because I'm not able to connect to the network.
Thanks in advance.
I should also note that I've gone to APN settings and tried 2 different approaches I've found through these forums:
-The one for "Broadband" as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474419
-This one which is similar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083173
-The one for wap.cingular as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259249&highlight=wap+cingular
I've also tried the T-Mobile modem and the JK3.
I have "Data Enabled" checked and "Data Roaming".
After trying all of these settings, I'm still having the same issue when I go into Network Operators, and selecting at&t: "unable to connect to this network at this time"
Edit: I'd also love to know if, once this is working, I will have to flash the modem since I will be using data only from AT&T
I wonder if its the SIM card itself.
Do you have any other phones you could test it with or grab someone else's AT&T phone?

I hadn't thought of that. Is this anything AT&T could diagnose? I remember when I first got my tab and popped it in that it worked.
Edit: Just called AT&T- the sim expires after 30 days. :-(
I have a rogers tablet. Same model as the at&t? Could i use this with wind mobile, as its the same frequency as T-Mobile?

Yes, as you know, you need to unlock it from your network. I prefer Helroz unlock app free in the market. You will only get EDGE speed data.
So i can use this rogers tablet on wind? Just as a 2nd clarification?

I picked up a used Samsung Galaxy S i9000 that was on Virgin (CDMA?). I rooted it, and put JB on it. From another device, I have a Telus data plan that is on 4G. Looking at the i9000 specs, it says it supports GSM and 3G. This where I get confused. The Telus plan I am on is 4G LTE (data). Does this mean that this Sim could fall back to 3G if I use it in my Samsung? I have ran a number of unlock tools (including the Samsung Galaxy S Unlocker) and think that my phone is unlocked, but the radio shows that there is no connection. When I ran the unlocker, it completes but does not say "its done". I can see that I now have the correct APN setting for Telus. The phone sees my SIM and my phone #. And I have the nv_data.bin file ( was not there before running the unlocker). When I look at the phone details, it sees my SIM, knows my phone number etc. It just won't connect. It also has the correct APN settings. If I try to dial a number or use the data, it does not work. Wondering if there are other settings I am missing?
I think the issue is that the sim only runs on Telus 4G and does not fall back to 3G (what the phone is capable of), but again, this is where I am green. I don't know how this works. Does the phone 'ask' the Sim to fall back, or does the network and Sim dictate to the phone what network it will use?
