I got my nookcolor yesterday and love it
I immediately updated to 1.1 and rooted it
Today I installed ClockworkMod Recovery in order to back up my nook onto my sd card
I booted into ClockworkMod Recovery, did a backup, went to "reboot system now" and the sytem just keeps booting into ClockworkMod Recovery.
I attempted a restore thinking something was screwed up from the backup I just made and it says it went well but still it just boots into ClockworkMod.
Do I just not know how to reboot my nook? It makes no sense that it would be corrupt given that all I did at first was backup to sd. HELP PLEASE this tiny text recovery screen is starting to look old.
What I did was find the thread about removing CWR (I think its in the dev forum)
It basically entails setting up a bootable CWR image on your SD card, and then adding a CWR removal zip into the root of the sd card...
Put it in your NC and boot to the SD card, install zip from SD card, let it run
After it is complete, reboot from CWR and when it says 'rebooting' pop out the SD card so your system can boot normally.
After that, go back into ROM Manager, flash CWR and then it should work fine.
I had this same problem last night (running 1.1 autonooter 3.0) and made a backup in CWR this afternoon and it worked flawlessly...
I don't know what happens with the initial CWR flash from ROM Manager on 1.1 systems, but removing it and reflashing seems to do the trick.

Hey all,
I've successfully rooted my NC and installed Froyo to the internal memory (Via flashable zip).
I've installed ROM Manager and supposedly flashed CWR successfully. Although, when I try to boot into recovery it just reboots normally. I've tried to reboot into recovery via ROM Mgr, quickboot, and holding the "n" when starting up.
Any ideas? Thanks.
I'm going through the same thing and now my NC won't even turn on.

Don't worry. I went through the same thing after flashing the froyo zip. Here is how you can get the NC turned on and restore to a previous backup (if you have a nandroid backup that is).
If you have a nandroid backup, copy it to your PC using a card reader with sd card from your NC
Go to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922870 and download clockwork_1gb-0.4.tar.gz.
Follow the instructions there and burn the image to SD card
You should have over 800MB free in the newly burned card. Create a folder called clockworkmod in the card. Inside that folder, create another folder called backup and then copy the nandroid backup folder you have on your PC, to your SD card, so that the structure looks something like clockworkmod\backup\2011-01-28.10.15.50
Download boot file from the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=919353
Extract the zip file and copy the .img file to SD card
Now put the SD card in Nook and turn it on. It should now boot from the card and get you to a Clockwork Recovery (if it isn't turning on, try holding N button first and power button later)
Once in Clockwork Recovery, you must be able to access NC through ADB on PC
Follow the instructions on this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10760795&postcount=11 to get boot.img file to your NC
After that if you have a Nandroid backup, restore it from Clockwork Recovery
Now reboot your NC. It should boot up. If you restored from a backup, everything should work fine. Otherwise NC will ask you to do a factory reset.
I hope that helped
So I rooted my Nook with autonooter 3.0.0, I followed all the directions entirely. It worked perfectly, I liked it but wanted to try other stuff. Then I successfully installed Honeycomb v4 on my Nook, I tried it out, but didn't like it, I'll wait until later as its more developed. Then I installed CM7 on my Nook. Its nice, but for some reason a lot of my important apps force close on me. So I thought would just return to stock and then go to autonooter. I tried the method found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690
So I don't know if it matters, but I remember formatting boot, system, and data in CWR during the installations of Honeycomb, and also formatting the system and data in CM7 and also in trying to return to stock. So in each of the installations I followed all of the directions perfectly.
Ok, so here is my problem. After I try to return to stock, I try to boot up my Nook, it goes to the Touch the Future of Reading screen, then to the screen with the 'n' on it and the adobe message at the bottom comes up. However, it will not go passed this. It hangs and I cannot fix it. I have tried the 8 reboots which does reinstall the original firmware, however when its complete and reboots it does not boot, it does the same thing I just described.
Please help, if I have left out any information just ask and I will fill in the details.
There is a recovery zip on the development forum. Boot into cwr and flash... that should do the trick... hopefully.
Sent from my DROID2 using XDA App
ext3 / ext4
Doesnt he need to format the partions with a ext3 cwr before flashing or will the recovery do that?

Yeah, I'm beginning to think I do have to fix up the partitions because everything I do is just giving me more hang.
Can anyone help with that?
Get CWR 3.0.5...
Write the SD card image to your uSD...
Copy repartition-boot-with-stock.zip to the root of the SD card...
Decide if you want to restore to 1.0.0 or 1.0.1 and copy the appropriate nook-complete-restore-1.0.x.zip to root of the SD card....
Boot off the SD card in your NC
since you say you have formatted boot... shouldn't ever need to do that btw...
Format Boot... System... Data... and cache...
Install the repartition boot zip file... then the complete system restore from SD card.
yeah.. once you reformat with CWR 3.0.0.5 you should be able to do the re-partition boot flash and then restore the image.
I just got back that way as well.

Thanks for all the help! I'm going to try this now. And I'm guessing it is, but will it be ok to use CWR 3.0.0.6 and boot with that from the SD card?
It needs to be CWR 3.0.0.5 in my experience.
3.0.0.6 supports EXT4 partitions and won't format them back to EXT3.. as long as they are EXT4, the nook will not boot into the stock rom.
The stock kernel doesn't support EXT4.. so it hangs just before it loads the system files..
If you wipe the partitions using 3.0.0.5 and install the full recovery image for 1.01 you should be a-ok.
Alright I got it! You guys are the best! Thanks for the help! Now I just need to re-root and I'm good to go! Thanks again!
Oh and yeah I used 3.0.0.5, that may have been the problem all along because I kept trying to fix with 3.0.0.6. Thanks!
Like the title says, when I try to create a backup clockwork does the following:
Backing up boot...
Backing up system...
Can't mount /system!
I'm about to try dual boon on internal and want to make sure I can restore stock if I need to.
I'm rooted using autonooter 3.
I've got the same problem, which I haven't solved yet. But I did come across this (which I haven't tried): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11868531
I had the same problem. Backup works with clockwork 3.0.0.5, but not with 3.0.1.0. Run rommanager and choose book color (old) when choosing the recovery to flash.
Try going into rom manager and reflashing the clockwork recovery, but this time select the opposite of whatever you selected before. For me, I have Rom Manager 3.0.1.3 on an autonootered 1.1, but the first time, I select "Nook Color". I went back and reflashed and this time selected "Nook Color (old)" and that did the trick.
Found one answer here: http://www.androidtablets.net/forum/nook-color-technical/10099-backup-error-think-im-worrying-nothing.html. Sounds like the solution is just try opposite of what you did the first time. I noticed the flash was to clockwork 3.0.1.0 until I did "old", and then it was 3.0.0.5.
Unfortunately, after doing that, it will only boot into clockworkmod recovery now...sigh
KEY POINT!! REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM AFTER THE CMW FLASH!!!
If you don't you end up in a boot loop, like me!!
If you end up in the boot loop, go get the CWR-removal.zip file (I got mine from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=914690 and use it to remove the recovery flash.
I don't know if you can do it from that boot by dropping the file on the sd card and installing it (I'm assuming so), but I had a spare bootable CMR I used, just to be safe.
Then go back in, reflash the recovery in rom manager AND REBOOT!!!
If you were on B&N 1.1.0 and then did autonooter 3.0 to root your NC, you absolutely MUST do a complete power off/on between the steps -Flash Recovery and -Boot into Recovery.
If you do not, you will get stuck in a boot loop. In which as stated above you will need to use a bootable SD, flash the 'remove cwr', and then install again.
And for the 'can't mount /system' issue while trying to do a backup - it's likely because you are on a non-ext4 rom (ie CM7) and you picked the 'Nook Color' device when you flashed recovery per the install instructions. Funny thing is, it won't work. Go back into ROM Manager and flash recovery again but select 'Nook Color (old)' and then power off, power back on, reboot into recovery and you will be able to complete a nand backup.
Be sure to document your situation and post it to the Official CWR 3010 thread in the Dev sub-forum and maybe we can get an answer or a fix from the devs.
I am running rooted 1.1, and want to create a backup before I take the plunge on CM7. I reboot using Clockwork Recovery via ROM Manager, and access the backup menu.
This is what always happens:
Reboot into recovery
Choose Backup and Restore
Choose Backup
......
ClockworkMod Recovery v3.0.1.0
SD Card space free: 949MB
Backing up boot...
Backing up system...
Can't mount /system!
I then go back out and choose 'Mounts and Storage' to try to manually mount the volumes. From here I can see that /cache and /sdcard is mounted, but I cannot mount /system or /data.
Any ideas??? I really want to back up my my stock unit before trying CM7...

1.1 functions with clockwork 3.0.0.5. I don't think you will get a backup with 3.0.1.0 because it writes to a different partition. You may need to burn 0.5 to an sd card or revert to 0.5 do your backup and then reload 1.0.

The oldest version I could find in ROM Manager was 3.0.0.6. I reverted to that version, but it did not work any better. Now when I tell it to reboot, it will only reboot back into recovery, I cannot get it to reboot back into Eclair. I never had a problem rebooting out of recovery mode on 3.0.1.0. What the heck is going on? I did make sure no SD cards were in during the reboots.
I did go download an offline copy of 3.0.0.5 to try from SD, but I need to get back into Eclair so I can update my Nook to use the older CWR via ADB...
Here's your answer!
Hey, I had this exact problem. Here is the solution:
1) Download the .zip update for ClockworkMod 3.0.1.0 and put it on your SD
2) Flash CWM from ROM Manager (NOT the "old" one, just the regular one)
3) Reboot to CWM
4) From CWM, install the .zip CWM update file
Reboot to android, then reboot to recovery (using ROM Manager or whatever other means you like, doesn't matter) and you'll be able to do a backup.
Hope this helps!

i found an sd bootable versionof CWM, it as 3.0.0.5, but said it was 1.1 compatable. I booted off SD, and this copy worked. I backed up, formatted, and flashed the new ROM. However, as soon as I removed the SD and rebooted, it took me right back to the CWM that is on my eMMC! What gives???
I still cannot reboot back into android
Just got my color nook today.
Trying to get my nook color up and running on a custom rom. But I am lost, there appears to be quiet a few ways to start and I am not sure the best and most updated method.
So as of now I am not rooted, pretty much pulled it out and charged it, I checked and its running 1.1.0 out of the box.
I'm going for the Phiremod rom, and I want to boot from internal memory not SD card.
Would really appreciate some links to what I need.
Thanks
lost just lost
so i ended up using autonooter
then made a sd card with clockworkmod on it
installed clockwork mod, installed a zip just like i would on a phone
and .... no go it wont boot to android just back to clockworkmod, what am i doing wrong?
also getting an error in clockwork
"E:can't mount /cache/recovery/log"
"E:can't open /cache/recovery/log"
"E:can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log"
"E:can't open /cache/recovery/last_log"

The errors are normal; since you don't have any cache or its not mounted.
You burned a CWM image on a SD card and installed the Phiremod rom from his Zip file in CWM?
Then you only have to remove the sd-card while in CWM and then choose 'reboot device' (first option in main menu) (sometimes you get back in CWM but reboot a couple of times and it should boot Phiremod CM7 off the emmc.)
(if the Nook finds a bootloader on the SD card, it'll load that instead of the internal emmc memory. )
too used to phones
hey thanks so much for the reply
that would have solved the problem, but i was running cwm on internal and using a different sd card
found out what was wrong, i was doing the wipes like you would on the phone
i.e. wipe data/factory reset and cache there
(instead of from inside mounts and storage)
finally up and running after 4 hours haha
thanks again
Just flashed a new 1.1.0 to CM7; no need for autonooter if you're going custom ROM straight off.
1. Download the SDCard-bootable CWM. Burn to MicroSD with WinDiskImage32 (needs to be run as Admin for block-level access if you get write errors)
2. Drop on your ROM .zip of choice.
3. Drop on the gapps .zip
4. Eject, insert into Nook, boot up.
5. TAKE A BACKUP. This is your 'oh crap' restore point.
6. Install zip from SD; install ROM. Do the same, install gapps. Wipe cache and data.
7. Remove MicroSD, boot NC. If it works, format the MicroSD card in your computer as FAT32 (after copying off your backup, under the clockworkmod directory), insert into NC, good to go. If it bombs out, redo step 4-7, skipping 5.
If you can't get it to load, boot from MicroSD and restore your backup. No harm, no foul. Keep a copy of this 'gold' backup on your computer. I forgot to do this and ended up blowing my original away when I reformatted my MicroSD.
Update your kernel
