hey there, i know this is my first post, and i just did my first flash of the Cog 3.04 Rom to my Rogers Captivate tonight, but i read through everything before i did it and everything went well.
but i figured out that when my phone boots up, i get a i896 Samsung boot screen at the very start, and then switches to AT&T world phone boot screen, then to a cog boot screen.
I've looked around and people say the AT&T screen is kernel based.. so i don't know if i can even get rid of that
I'm wondering if there is a way to get rid of the last two boot screens and have the glowing Galaxy S boot screen from stock, and if not that, just the i896 boot screen, can anyone help me?
you are right, the second boot logo is kernel based.
simple fix, flash a new kernel.
most roms are compatible with most kernels,
make sure lagfix options are disabled in clockwork recovery. Some Roms enable on install. so even if you didnt turn it on, TURN IT OFF FIRST.
Download neldar's SGS kernel flasher app for easy kernel back up/flashing.
you can find a copy in my Magic Android folder in my Signiature.

Hey,
For some reason my phone is stuck on a black screen at bootup where only the buttons light up. I have tried fixing the SD using the parted method on the cyanogen forums and the adb method posted on this forum. When I boot I get no error messages in recovery. The weird thing is, if i flash eugenes froyo for vibrant, the phone boots up and works but it will not work if I flash the official stock firmware (UGJH2 - i9000m phone). I have also tried flashing different versions but they all boot up to a black screen.
Does anyone know what is going on or what I can do to fix it?
Thanks.
I have a sprint galaxy tab, was rooted and had Bauxite OC kernal but otherwise stock. Was working fine this morning, picked it up tonight wont power on past samsung logo, not the glowing one. I can't get into recovery at all, download yes. Tried putting stock firmware with odin back on says pass but still stuck at logo. Did this a few times same results other that once it would just keep turning off and on by itself in a loop. I tried Baush [Kernel][CDMA][VZW/SPRINT]KhasMek Voodoo Plus v5 Now with Full Voodoo CwM! and went through that it installed but the voice says not enough space. I did get into recovery with it but it would not let me do anything at all.
Hey,
I need some help. I got an I9000M the other day and have been doing a lot of reading towards rooting and eventually SIM-unlocking the phone.
Currently, with the chainfire root method by installing that kernel through Odin i expected that I would have had a rooted phone.
However, the flashing process was completed successfully and after it was finished, I was supposed to let my phone reboot but its stuck at the black and white galaxy s screen.
What happened?
Perhaps I installed the wrong kernel?...anyways I have no clue. Please help so I can proceed towards my goal.
*Also if I just flash an original firmware will it start me back at where I was from the beginning? That way I can figure out which CF I should have used...
Just pull the battery, 3 button into download mode (Vol Down+Home+Power) and ODIN flash to stock.
Do a little reading and make sure you have the right version.
BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THAT, pull the battery and see if it starts up. My phone always gets stuck on home screen after an Odin flash and have to battery pull to get it to load.
alright thanks, i flashed to stock and now i am going to try and figure out exactly which CF will work.
This isn't a huge issue, but it's slightly annoying. I've been running teamhacksung's ICS port and one day it crashed. When I rebooted Instead of seeing the AT&T logo > Cyanogenmod logo > boot animation I see the AT&T logo twice. I've flashed the glitch kernel but I still don't see it, although when I boot into recovery I see it flash for a split second.
Although I'm not on ICS right now, from what I remember from when I was on it, I think that is normal. If it's really bothering you (I don't see why), flash stock and try again to see if it still happens.
I have a Note (GT-N7000) which has decided to no longer boot up completely. It is unrooted stock ROM. It manages to get bast the initial boot screen, but gets stuck on the SAMSUNG splash screen.
I can:
Boot into Recovery
Boot into Download Mode
Use ADB
see it in device manager as aMTP Device (although I can't see the actual device contents)
I have data (appdata, and files/documents)on it I need to get off, is there any hope?
It's my wifes phone, so some of you probably know how important this is!
Any help appreciated.

From what I've read, I guessed I'm screwed, but was hoping there was something I missed. Look slike the phone will be relegated to a drawer in the hope that one day I can get data back. Look out Note 3! (or 4 if the budget can stretch)
Solved!
So, I ended up installing PhilZ-cwm6 - Safe Stock Based Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901191) and could then boot into a custom recovery, mount USB and copy all the data off.
All good. Now to factory reset and see if phone comes back to us. Already got a new Note 4 to replace the old girl, so not a issue anymore.
