Samsung Galaxy S Can Play 5.1 Audio Files - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanted to share something about our beloved SGS media capability. Ever disappointed with the inability to play a 5.1 mkv file directly on SGS? Need to encode it to Mp4? Well....no more, what you need to do is just use mkvmerge, add the mkv file(

Captivate divx certified?

I have read that the captivate is divx certified? Is this true do I need an app to make this happen or is this going to be added with froyo? I hate converting files after downloading..... Just too time consuming

The question to ask is, whats the container, whats the file size?
Generally a full length movie seven hundred mb or so, not sure what you mean by container but I am downloading from a windows vista or seven box to my phone

I've played multiple xvid files (each 300mb+) and they've run perfectly fine, so I'm assuming that divx would run fine also.
just download a media player app from the market. i think rock media player or whatever it's called can play a lot of different encoded files that the stock media player can't even recognize

no, the phone is divx certified AS IS. rockplayer isn't required. the default video player app will play xvid and divx by default. and I believe it's even capable of mkv 1080p files
i can verify that a 2.1 gb mkv file encoded in 720p runs perfectly
I've also had a problem playing xvid and divx files (each ~700mb).
they are all labeled avi's. I've tried 3.
I am having problems too trying to play Divx files. I am having issues with the Divx files that I made that are from my movie collection. Here are the characteristics of the files I have been trying to use but they just wont work:
AVI container
Divx Codec (used AutoGK)
AC3 audio (I tried MP3 also didn't work)
File size is between 1-2GB in size.
Can anyone tell why I can't play any of my Divx files? I am transfering these files to my memory card through Windows and then putting the memory card in the device. I would think since this is Divx compatible this should be a no brainer since the files work on a PS3 and Xbox 360 without a problem.
So far only Rock Player will play my files.
Divx doesn't work for the Captivate

Actually I have to disagree. Either I am doing something completely wrong, but there is no way this will play Divx files consistently. I have been tooling around with it for 3 days now and I get nothing but inconsistency. So here is the scoop.
All my divx files are AVI.
All files converted with AutoGK and Divx Codec
Some have AC3 sound others are MP3
Typical file size is between 1.2-2GB
The ONLY files I can get to play on this thing consistently are Xvid encoded files. I have tried Divx files with 2 audio channels, 5.1 sound and none of them work. Heck I even downloaded one of the Divx files from www.divx.com Big Buck Bunny (mobile version) and that didn't work. This did play an HD MP4 that I had but wouldn't play the sound I am guessing because it was AC3.
In the end I don't see how this phone is Divx certified if I can't get a Divx movie to play unless I use Rockplayer, which I don't want to use because that is all CPU and not GPU being used for playback.
For people who do get it working, are you putting the movies on the phone a special way or something?
I play divx and xvid files on mine fine with the stock media player. No converting....just copy and paste.
Actually DivX Plus HD certified
Actually, if you read the press release, the Galaxy S is DivX Plus HD certified. Hence it will play MKV/H.264 just fine. Why they support DivX Plus but not standard DivX, I have no idea. According to specs for Captivate on samsung.com, supported formats are MPEG4, AAC, AAC+, H.263, H.264. Xvid (AVI) seems to also work for most people.
Options for standard def DivX seem to be convert to mp4 or other supported type or use a non-stock video player that supports DivX.

What size are your divx files that you are playing? I am curious to see what the disconnect is with the content that I have.

[Q] Supported file types

I am having problems getting video to play on my captivate. It says AVI and DIVX files are supported online yet whenever I put a file of this type onto my phone it says file type not supported. I just bought a movie from the Samsung Media Hub and dowloaded it from the SAMSUNG BUILT IN APP yet the file still is unsupported. Does anyone know what to use to convert movies to be compatible with this phone? What file types are supported?
I am having the same problem and looking for help now too. I converted all my dvds to Divx and I always used the official Divx codec and converted all my movies with AC3 audio. No matter which video I try that I made I get that not supported error. Hopefully I find a fix soon because it is driving me nuts

[Q] 720p HD videos (about 2GB and up in size) plays in my tab but no audio....

hi again guys... another inquiry from me...
so i have 720P HD movies which are 2GB and up in file size that i put in my tab.. yes it plays smoothly but there is no audio... how could i fix it??? is there a file limit in size when it comes to videos in Galaxy Tab? i already tried different video player like mplayer, moboplayer, and soul video player but still i cant have it work,,,, what can i do for this???
by the way.. my tab is running on Overcome 2.0 beta2 by alterbridge...
i also experience this back when my tab is in overcome 1.x.x firmwares...
thank you guys...
It seems the audio part of the video is coded with a codec unavailable in galaxy tab. Maybe its ac3 (just guessing). Try another player once more (people claim vplayer plays everything ) or recode video file to another format.

[Q] apps for streaming mkv with subtitles over wifi

What are the best apps for streaming hi10p mkv with subtitles from windows 7 desktop pc to galaxy tab 10.1?
i need a video player and an app that will let me open files on my pc onto my tablet..
what are the best options?
Wrong forum? This is SGT7'' forum, so you might want to repost your question on the right forum...
Answering your question anyway, gmote streams mkv fine but I think the subtitles won't work, not sure. There's another app, which I can't remember the name, that also streams video but no subs either I believe. Give gmote a go anyway, since mkv files have subs integrated you might actually be able to use them.
But then again, your tab has like 16GB internal storage, why don't you just put the mkv on it and watch whatever you want without any issues?

Playing 2D/3D video files with AC3 audio

Has anyone been able to figure out how to play videos with AC3 audio inside Gear VR? When I play such (2D or 3D) videos, the video plays fine but there is no sound and I get a pop-up that the audio codec is not supported. In non-Gear VR mode, the stock video player can play such files with video only but the BS Player app can play such files just fine with both video and audio.
Since most of my videos have AC3 audio, it is a real pain if I have to convert the audio every time before copying such video files from the PC to Note 4 SD card.
Thanks,
Osho
I have read that ac3 codec is no longer included in factory rom because licensing fees. I think the only way would be to reencode movies to files with sound natively supported by Note4

Until Oculus or another developer includes more audio codecs, Gear VR supports only AAC and mp3 audio for now.
With Virtual Dub you can easily and fast convert your movies tho, when you set video to passthrough and only the audio to convert. Takes only a few minutes to convert a movie then.
Sounds easy enough but would you so kindly post slightly more details to doig this in virtual dub? (Not a bioshock reference)
